Manny’s power, speed, and skills are possibly the main stumbling block to Mayweather vs. Pacquiao megafight!

By Juan dela Cruz: It was not the random blood test, nor the purse split nor the legal problems the Mayweathers are facing, that made the negotiations for a mega fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao failed. In my view, there is only one clear reason, and that was again showed by Pacman in last outing against Antonio “The Tijuana Tornado” Margarito for the vacant WBC junior middleweight title last Saturday, November 13, 2010 at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium, and it was Pac’s power, speed and skills!
In one of his interviews, Mayweather said he didn’t want to retire disabled or somewhat not in normal condition like what happened to Muhammad Ali who has Parkinson’s disease which he believed, for sure, was caused by severe beatings that Ali suffered in so many wars above the ring. Floyd said in the same interview that he wanted to enjoy his retirement with his family, to live a normal life with his kids and savor the fruits of his career as one of the top earners in boxing. Well, everybody can not stand out against that idea. Everybody loves to enjoy his retirement especially with his family and at best, while in good physical health or normal condition.
This clearly showed that Floyd, at the back of his mind, entertain the thoughts of losing against Pac, whether on PEDs or not. And worse, he also entertained the thoughts of suffering the same fate that others had in the hands of Pacquiao. He can’t imagine himself at the scene of Dela Hoya who was beaten black and blue and quit after 8 rounds, Cotto with his face bloodied with his lips busted, Hatton gasping for air while lying on the canvass after two rounds not knowing where he was and what hit him, Clottey who intelligently just shelled himself up to avoid getting KO’d but became a human punching bag for 12 full rounds, and lastly, Margarito who suffered too much with his face beaten into a pulp and have his eyes swollen and according to last report, needs surgery for his broken bone near his eyes.
So if people are thinking that the random blood test, purse split, or the legal issues confronting the Mayweathers are the stumbling block for the mega fight to happen, they are wrong. It is Pacquiao’s power, speed, and skills that made the fight not to happen. Floyd will not be able to bear the loss against Pacman if ever they will face each other, more so in a humiliating way. He can’t accept that fact that his “0” has to go, and in the hands of a “midget.” Floyd will wait until someone exposes Pac and show the blue print to his disaster. He will wait until Pac got beaten, which, at this point in time, is very remote. Until then, Floyd will remain in retirement.

You know, it is hard to defend either of them, they have really been dancing around each other the best that they can. However, with Pac at least I feel like there is an honest effort to get the PBF fight. With Floyd Jr. I feel like we are seeing more and more obvious stalling tactics. I don’t think he really cares about his legacy…he is kind of a trashy dude (I still like him as a fighter I just think he is a punk). I think he is really more interested in money. Our only hope for this fight is if Floyd runs out of money and needs to go back to the giant ATM he thinks is boxing. Or if Pac could lose a fight (for example against Sergio Martinez, P-Will will never happen because he is too big and tall).

Mayweather made it very clear when he came out of retirement that he did so to fight the best. He proved that when he made every reasonable effort to accomodate Pacquiao for the first negotiations and Pacquiao walked away. So what Pacquiao has beaten some very average fighters, they still are not in Mayweathers class. The writer of this article, Arum, and Roach all know that in order for Pacquiao to be considered great he has to beat Mayweather, that’s why they can’t even have a conversation without bringing-up Mayweather’s name.

Floyd isn’t some Mexican with the head movement of a person with no neck.Floyd isn’t gonna lean forward head down and allow Manny to punch away.Floyd isn’t gonna let Manny move the same direction while using that pawing jab,while being vulnerable to a hook,Floyd is going to hit him.Floyd is faster and will beat Manny to the punch,Floyd is gonna keep his lead foot on the outside of Manny’s lead foot to stop him from moving in his favorite direction trying to set up those same combo’s,Floyd will set traps.

Floyd would rather self destruct than face Pacquiao. Margarito didn’t rest because he doesn’t fight that way. That and I don’t think he could close in on Pac at will. Anytime he got close is because Pacquiao allowed it. At that point Margarito was trying to take advantage and land some punches. If he held he’d be wasting an opportunity.

Paul Williams throws about 1,000 punches a fight and so does Margarito. Neither man gets significantly tired due to the high output.
I’m pretty sure that Manny will use a different strategy against Floyd. He’s not gonna just hurl punches at the guy. He didn’t against Cotto or Hatton. With those guys he had to be little more careful and pick his spots.
Manny’s never been a slick southpaw. So i’m not sure you can walk away from the Margarito fight thinking he’s any more hittable than he previously was. He did choose to stand toe-to-toe with a guy that weighed 165lbs wearing 8oz gloves. Something was bound to get through Pacquiao’s guard.
Floyd’s hand speed, footwork, and general boxing IQ makes him the reasonable favorite in a fight with Pacquiao.
That being said, Pac does pose certain stylistic problems for Floyd.
1) Manny’s left handed. In the past we’ve seen that Floyd gets hit more often against southpaws.
2) Manny is every bit of the gym rat Floyd is. He won’t tire out the same way Corley and Judah did.
3) Manny has just as much speed and maybe slightly more power than Mayweather. Mayweather can punch though. Better than most people give him credit for.
4) Manny can be hit, but he’s proven that he doesn’t get taken out of the fight. Morales thoroughly outboxed Pac in their first fight but Pac kept coming. he won’t be discouraged by Mayweather’s great counters
5) Freddie Roach. Easily one of the best strategists in the game.
Obviously the safe bet is FLoyd. He’s bigger. Just as fast. More skilled. BUt that’s the “paper” bet.
Manny’s style may not be as sophisticated, but it’s just as effective and definitely more brutal.
They need to fight.

I mean I saw Pacman wa a bit in the end, but considering the punch output he as putting in,,,he had to get tired a bit.
He can be hit. Margo a wild puncher got in some good shots. So that is good news for Floyd.
Still Floyd paces himself to finish strong and Pac is just going crazy letting his hand go and still has decent power at the end.
I think Floyd makes him miss in the aerly rounds and finishes him up in the latter rounds. A fighter like Pacman can not go twelve at that pace against a Floyd. He would knock himself out.
Why didn’t Margo hold a bit to rest…and put his body on the midget…
If ever the mega fight happen between PAC and Floydie, Roach would have a different fight strategy then the one used against Margo. Roach has studied Floyd ever since the first negotiation even started. So don’t compare PAC’s last fight when Floyd finally got the courage to sign up the contract to fight PAC.
Rule of boxing: Study your opponent and his weakness and employ a strategy to exploit those weaknesses.

My problem with your observation is that you asked if Manny can move that well against Floyd, then go on to say that Manny didn’t get tired because he didn’t have to move.
I actually think Manny did get tired. In the 9th you can see that the fight was wearing on him.
Honestly, I don’t think he was in the same shape he was in previous fights.

My observations:
Can pacquiao move away from Floyd like he did against Margo?
Pacquiao really doesn’t like to be hit to the body.
Pacquiao is not that tricky to figure out. His in and out style is predictable.
Margo cuts hurt his chances in the end.
He couldn’t see from one eye from the 9 round on.
Pacquiao was in better shape than he was against Clottey.
They still need to test him for steroids. Than man does not get tired…part of that was due to Margarito not making him move much.
Margarito has fought one tune up fight after a one year suspension against a nobody.
Floyd will not present Pacquiao a hit me sign.
Margarito was holding up his punches..what with the lazy left…we never saw the left hook or left uppercut from Margarito.
Margarito wasn’t ranked for a reason.
Margarito got in some good shots in round 2 and 6 and I thin 8 or 9. so pacquiao can be hit.

Not really.
Mosley was visibly tired after the third round. He was taking in deep breaths after the second. Mosley wasn’t the same fighter he was when he fought Mayweather. He still had hand speed, but lacked that killer instinct that made him a force at lightweight.
Mosley did destroy Margarito. My take is that Marga was one part drained (he fell off balance when he threw a body shot) and Mosley had the perfect game plan. he’s the only person to try and tie margarito up like that to stop his forward movement.
Before that, Mosley was outboxed by Cotto and barely beat mayorga.
The point is, Mosley wasn’t the fighter that made him famous and he got thoroughly outboxed by Mayweather.
Then you have Margarito. That guy was never a great boxer, but was known more for his relentless pressure and iron chin.
Can you honestly say that any of that was missing in his fight with Pacquiao? Not really.
Styles make fights. Mayweather did what he was suppose to do and so did Pacquiao.

After what has happen to margarito, at this point in time, i reckon that everybody came to a cognizance why clottey did a turtle shell defense. It seems that clottey is the most clever fighter that pacman faced and i can say that hatton is lucky enough to be knockout in 2 that he did not suffer what barrera, morales, marquez, diaz, delahoya, cotto and margo go through.

-Marco Antonio Barrera was also liner champ and the #3 ranked p4p fighter when Pac fought him. Was on an 8 fight win streak with his last loss coming by close decision. Pac made his corner throw in the towel.
-Juan Manuel Marquez was only on a 4 fight winning streak, but was still the #2 ranked Junior Featherweight (behind Paquiao) and the #3 ranked p4p (behind Pacquiao)

For the sake of argument we’ll just use the last 6 fights of Manny Pacquiao namely, David Diaz, De la Hoya, Hatton, Cotto, Clottey and Margarito. Out of these six, the only one that can be considered out of their prime is De la Hoya who lost a questionable UD against Mayweather instead of a draw, and out them, only one (Hatton) was clearly defeated by Mayweather by KO. Mayweather’s win against Marquez doesn’t even count because Mayweather was overweight. Mayweather didn’t fight the more formidable boxers like Cotto, Clottey and Margarito for obvious reason.
When using the argument of boxers losing therefore they are no longer good, how can you explain other boxers who recovered in their career as boxers after losing several times especially Manny Pacquiao? You have to understand, that out of the six examples here, five of them were still in their prime especially at the usual prime age of early thirties or less.

Margie NEVER complained about being drained. He fought at 147 many times so 150 didn’t kill him. Save the excuses. The only thing that drained Margie was his loss of blood. He was very confident before the fight. Even made fun of Roach’s Parkinsons disease. Didn’t think Pac could hurt him. He sang a different song after the fight. Margie never felt that kind of power and saw that kind of speed. He was truly overwhelmed.
Maybe Floyd will fight him now. Not! Fear is a muthaforya.

Pac did Great…But Mayweather would still dominate Pacquiao easily. Floyd would have KO’d Margarito. Pac is too small and I wouldn’t doubt that Pacquiao will retire soon before facing the fast and more skilled Mayweather.
Pacquiao’s fight with Margarito went as I said it would. This would be an easy fight being that Margarito to too drained to do anything in the ring, along with being already too slow and already damaged good from Mosley. Mosley KO out Margarito and Pacquiao couldn’t even do that.

Manny Pacquiao is a grossly overrated fighter. Again, he has beaten a very slow and severely weight-drained fighter, whose skills have badly eroded over the last two years. Manny is yet to beat a good fighter while that fighter is in his prime. He is still not willing to fight Marquez again.
If Pacquiao thinks he is such a great fighter, I challenge him to take the random blood test, and fight Angulo, Martinez, Marquez, Williams, or Mayweather, instead of recycled guys such as Cotto, Clottey and Margarito. Mosley’s victory over Margarito is far more impressive than Pacquiao’s victory over the same (Margarito).

After seeing what Pacquiao did to Margarito, who I must add outweighed Pacquiao by 17 lbs, it now makes sense for Mayweather to just stay away from him. You heard it right, Mayweather should just run, run like he never ran before, run as fast as he could. If Pacquiao was able to deliver 5 to 6 punches against one from Margarito, then I see no reason why Floyd would want to engage him. It all makes sense now.
Pac is a huge draw so plenty of tough guys want to fight him. Even when they get pummeled, they are set for life. Pac, Roach, and Arum will do what makes sense for them since Mayweather is not an option.
