Kick off Thanksgiving weekend with a special classics edition of “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” on Nov. 26 with Marquez vs. Casamayor and Ortiz vs. Arrieta
LOS ANGELES, November 24 – There will be no rowdy celebrations or fancy feasts for Unified Lightweight World Champion Juan Manuel “Dinamita” Marquez and junior welterweight contender “Vicious” Victor Ortiz this Thanksgiving as they prepare for their respective pivotal bouts over the next few weeks, but fight fans can get their own party started on Friday, November 26, as a special edition of “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” Classics re-airs fights from the careers of both boxing superstars.
Currently finalizing preparations for his November 27 World Championship showdown with Michael Katsidis “The Great,” future Hall of Famer Juan Manuel Marquez has become known as one of boxing’s most skilled technicians. Fans can get a preview of his skills as displayed during his spectacular 11th round knockout of Cuban star and former World Champion Joel “El Cepillo” Casamayor on November 26 edition “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” Classics.
Just two weeks after Marquez-Katsidis, Victor Ortiz will look to close out 2010 in style when he battles 28-1 Lamont Peterson in Las Vegas on December 11. When “Vicious” Victor took on Roberto David Arrieta for the vacant NABO title in September of 2008, he was on the verge of bursting on to the international fight scene and left quite an impression with a fifth round stoppage of the rugged veteran. The re-broadcast of this impressive battle will be the co-feature this Friday night.
Tecate, cerveza con carácter, is the largest beer brand to sponsor boxing matches in the U.S. Part of its commitment to make boxing accessible to consumers is the title sponsorship of “Sólo Boxeo Tecate,” which creates an opportunity for local fans to witness some of the most exhilarating fights by today’s up-and-coming prospects. Additionally, Tecate has been a primary supporter of Golden Boy Promotions’ marquee events since 2007, and has launched a variety of initiatives to ensure consumers are part of the boxing experience, including boxer autograph signing sessions, commemorative cans, PPV mail-in rebate offers, and most recently the launch of a mobile museum “Tecate Museo de Boxeo,” which showcases decades of the most memorable moments in the sport.
