By Loren Robinson: “For me life is continuously being hungry. The meaning of life is not simply to exist, to survive, but to move ahead, to go up, to achieve, to conquer” said Arnold Schwarzenegger. Odlanier Solis had a great amateur boxing career. He is ambitious with a goal of becoming the first Cuban heavyweight champion. He wants to be the next conqueror of the heavyweight division.

Odlanier Solis had an outstanding amateur career with a win-loss record of 227 and 14. He won the Olympic gold medal in Athens in 2004. He was a three time winner at the World Amateur Boxing Championships. He beat Cuban legend Felix Savon in two of their three fights. He also defeated current WBA heavyweight champion David Haye at the Belfast World Amateur Championships by stoppage in the third round.

He was focused on bigger accomplishments after the amateurs. Therefore, he defected from the Cuban national boxing team in December 2006. Odlanier Solis began his professional career by signing with German based First Artist. He fought his first twelve boxing matches in Europe. However, he now resides in Miami. He is fighting primarily in America. Odlanier Solis in his last fight defeated Carl Davis Drumond by technical knockout in the 4th round. He has knocked out seven of his last eight opponents.

Odlanier Solis has very fast hands especially for a heavyweight. He has good boxing skills that he developed during his stellar amateur career. Equally important, he has good technical skills. He has good power. Likewise, Odlanier Solis has a 75% knockout ratio. His reach is 79 inches. This is an impressive reach for a boxer that is only 6 feet 1 inch tall because 6 foot 7 inches Vitali Klitschko reach is 80 inches.

He has an uncanny ability to cut off the ring. Odlanier Solis also knows how to set up combinations. But, he has issues with his weight. He has gained about fifty pounds since he turned professional. He has been around 271 pounds in his last few boxing matches.

Odlanier Solis will be fighting Ray Austin on December 17th in Miami, Florida. The winner will face WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko. He has been waiting for his opportunity. He called out Vitali Klitschko earlier this year after Klitschko’s boxing match against Albert Sosnowski.

“Vitali stop clowning around and fight me instead of the bums you’ve been in the ring with recently. Vitali stop thinking about Valuev or Haye. Valuev lost to Haye. He is not in your league. Regarding Haye he had his chance to get his hands on you and your brother and he pulled out. Also I already knocked him out as an amateur. I am the only opponent left. And I promise you that after our fight you can concentrate on your career in politics. I will take your belt and retire you. If you don’t believe me come and prove me wrong” said Odlanier Solis.

Odlanier Solis is ready to continue the dominance that he had in the amateurs. He is ready to make his mark on the heavyweight division. He wants to become the first Cuban heavyweight boxing champion. He is ready to be the next conqueror of the heavyweight division.
