Medina enters WBC rankings

Just two weeks after one of the grittiest fights of his career, WBC contender David “Strictly Business” Medina (22-2, 10 KO’s) was elevated to the WBC’s top 15 in the latest World Boxing Council rankings. Medina, who came off the deck to defeat a game Anthony Shuler in El Paso on September 24, suddenly finds himself in line for a major fight in 2011. Medina move up the ranks not only positions him for a possible world title fight in the very near future, but also promises to give Medina a serious shot of national exposure.

“Medina has only fought ESPN once,” commented promoter Zef Ramirez, “and although he has fought on several PPV cards, I think this will really benefit David tremendously. I have known for years that David is the most explosive and exciting middleweight in the world. With his recent move up the rankings it looks like the boxing world is taking note of that. Once the fans get a chance to see David in action, I am sure he will win them over with his personality and his warrior’s heart in the ring.”

Medina, who has impressive wins over Shuler, ESPN’s “The Contender” alumni Miguel Hernandez, and prospects Skyler Thompson and Victor Lares, now finds himself in line for possible fights with the likes of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Kelly Pavlik.

“The Shuler fight was not his most dominant performance,” admitted promoter Zef Ramirez, “but it was one of his most exciting. Medina fought a war with Shuler, and in the end he came out on top. It’s that kind of excitement that defined his early career, and I think it’s that kind of excitement that will provide a shot of adrenaline to the middleweight division now that he is in the world rankings.”

Medina is currently scheduled to fight a TBA on a Zeferino Entertainment promoted card in February of next year, and Ramirez is already planning Medina’s explosion into the top ten.

“I am not sure yet who David will be matched with in February,” commented Medina, “but we anticipate a televised fight and we would love to get someone in the top ten. I think a lot of people looked past David before, now they look at him as a world ranking. But if we can get a fight with a John Duddy or a Marco Antonio Rubio next year, the world will finally see him for what he is: the most exciting middleweight fighter in the world.”
