IBF heavyweight tournament looking weak

By Jason Kim: It was learned today that Alexander Dimitrenko doesn’t want to take part in the IBF tournament. This yet another heavyweight that doesn’t wish to take advantage of this tournament, which will be deciding the mandatory challenger for International Boxing Federation heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.

Denis Boytsov already decided not to take part in the tournament, complaining about needing more time for his injured hand to heal. Jean Marc Mormeck, the former cruiserweight champion, was thought to be one of the four fighters in the tournament.

However, Mormeck is rumored to be fighting Hasim Rahman next in France. That leaves Eddie Chambers, who Wladimir already recently beat with ease. There’s also Jonathon Banks and Derrick Rossy. Those aren’t exactly appealing fighters because it would be hard to see any of them being competitive with Wladimir if they were to win the tournament.

Rossy has already been beaten by Chambers in the past, so you have to figure that Chambers would likel beat him again. As for Banks, he doesn’t look good at all at heavyweight since moving up in weight from the cruiserweight division. Banks is small for a heavyweight and has stamina problems, as well as a chin problem.

Banks would likely have a lot of problems with someone like Chambers. For that matter, all of the tournament fighters would have problems with Chambers. He appears to be the best that the tourney has right now.

If Chris Arreola joined the tournament, he’d have an excellent chance of winning the fight. However, I’m not so certain that Arreola is interested in fighting for the title against the Klitschkos.
