Vitali Klitschko in talks with Adamek’s management for bout in March

By Eric Thomas: World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (40-2, 38 KO’s) is reportedly in talks with the management of heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek (42-1, 27 KO’s) for a bout that would take place in March at Madison Square Garden, according to the latest boxing news. This is kind of presuming a lot on Klitschko’s part, because Adamek is said to be fighting 6’8″ Lance “Mount” Whitaker (35-6-1, 28 KO’s) next and as bad as Adamek looked in beating 38-year-old Michael Grant on August 21st in a 12 round decision, you can’t really assume that Adamek can get by even 38-year-old Whitaker.

Grant had Adamek hurt several times in his fight with him and Grant barely threw any punches at all in the fight. And there’s no telling whether Vitali will win his next fight against Shannon Briggs on October 16th. Briggs has huge knockout power, has been winning most of his recent fights with 1st round knockouts, has much better hand speed than Vitali and is almost as big as the Ukrainian at 6’4″.

If Briggs can put on hands on Vitali early in their fight, he may take him out. Briggs has the kind of power that can knockout any human alive. He has Lennox Lewis type power, and we saw what Lewis did to Vitali when they fought in 2003. It only took Lewis six rounds to shred Vitali’s face to ribbons. Briggs may not have good stamina, but if fights hard for four or five rounds, Vitali’s face may be cut to bits or he could end up knocked cold by Briggs’ big shots.

The Klitschko-Adamek fight might be a pipe dream on both Vitali and Adamek’s part. Those guys shouldn’t really be looking ahead at this point, because they’re not looking good enough to do that. Vitali has looked very average in his last two fights against Kevin Johnson and Alberto Sosnowski. And Adamek was staggered in his fight with Chris Arreola and most recently with Grant.

what are you saying Klitchcko has the grat nock out percentage, and will take out briggs,

Adamack fights like Ali, hate to see those two fight would like to see the Coward haye man up and fight either of the k Bro’s or Adamek

  • bernie says:

    Mr. Thomas,
Youve been injecting embalming fluid in your veins when you could say that Vitali looked very average in his last two fights. Put him up against any fighter in Pro Boxing and he has the ability to profoundly humiliate them in the ring. Adamek must and needs to fight Haye, Povetkin, or Chambers. He needs to do this or go back down to Cruiserweight for a rematch with Cunningham or a rumble with Huck. How bout an all Polish title fight with Wlodarczyk im Warsaw? I dont want to see the Christians being thrown to the lions with Klitschko about Adamek.

  • Chase-Dallas says:

I don’t think Vitali has lost a single round since his comeback. How will an old tired Briggs beat him without luck?

  • j jackson says:

i dont know, vitali is slowing down day by day, amadeks timing may be perfect.

  • FRN says:

ohh man… i dont like the soud of this. Adamek shouldnt take this risk now, take on Haye first !

  • j jackson says:

vladimir hasnt lost 7 rounds in his last 10 fights…so in 10 fights he hasnt lost enough rounds to lose a decision….he shut out chageav…who beat valuev more soundly than haye did. thats sytle, its just not brutality…he has enough style that haye and povetkin are afraid to fight him. .in the past a fighter would jump at any chance to win the real heavyweight title…that fighters like haye and povetkin are running away tells you how good vladimir is.

  • j jackson says:

the k brothers have always fought the best fighters who would get in the ring with them..vitali fought 3 top 10 fighters in his first year back…10 out of 11 of vladimirs fights were against top 10 fighters. amadeck is willing to step up as well. the only coward visible in the top 10 is haye. he is the boy among men. he will have fought only one top 10 fighter in almost 4 years as a heavyweight when this fight with harrison has ended…it is the saddest showing in heavyweight history and it shows how low his fans can go they can defend it.

  • klitschkoblog.com says:

Shannon Briggs wont pull a Lennox Lewis because he is not Lennox Lewis. He would tire fast if he tried the same punch output as Lennox and Vitali were throwing in their fight.

  • Frayjee says:

    Dear Eric,

I hope they don’t pay you for what you wrote here because you have no idea. You are Adamek’s hater and probably Haye’s poster hangs on your wall.

  • ABNOY RESIGN NOW! says:

adamek needs this fight. he is ballsy compared to scared haye.

  • BIG G says:

Wat lewis done to vitali?u smokin the ganja man?vitali was up on the cards and got a hometown favour with tht cut stopage any1 seen that he cud have continued.

  • Klitschko fan says:

The K bros have obviously given up any hope on Haye accepting a fight. He probably goes hiding under his bed anytime anybody mentions the name Klitschko.

  • Anonymous says:

Adamek, compared to chris Byrd.well they are about similar in size, with Byrd moving side to side better, and adamek the better combination puncher. They both take a good punch, but byrd moes away better.I cannot see how Tomas will get off without getting hurt/.

  • Joe says:

Mentioning Haye, it always comes back to Haye you sad hater.
Haye can fight who he wants, he will still get a big payday. He is doing what the Klitschkos have done for years. And just for the record who have they beat that makes you stand up and say they are great fighter? (Dont say who has Haye fought cause then your turning on the question. They have ducked but beating the majority out there but the opposition is so weak they do beat them with a bit more style if they were that great.

  • j jackson says:

peter has near 75 percent and briggs has around an 80 percent ko ratio…barrett is about 45 percent, ruiz 55 percent and valuev 65 percent…..that was before they got old and slow…average age, like harrison, 38 years old…of course ruiz and barrett have losing records over the last 3 years…wonder who is really cherry picking?

  • j jackson says:

so peter cant punch…and briggs cant punch? they both have over 80 percent ko ratios.. amazing, whereas valuev and ruiz have dismal knock out percentages…so, it can be proven neither of them has a punch,,,come to think of it, neither can barrett…wonder who is ducking the punchers…? and come to think of it, they are all around 38 years old, as is harrison, so someone is also ducking, young fighters as well…

  • j jackson says:

if amadek fights for peanuts why hasnt haye signed him…there is a goldmine there…but then haye is the hardest guy to negotiate with in boxing…which explains 7 fights in 6 years.

  • Anonymous says:

adamek has beaten a couple good fighters in his way to a title shot.He certainly is not the # one contender, but I would consider this a better test for vitali than was his last defense.I cannot see adamek pulling this off but in boxing you see strange happenings.

  • j jackson says:

joe…really..sad…only 2 fighters have complained about a v contract…valuev and haye…2 fighters who have ducked every decent fighter…vlad has fought 3 men in the top 5 in a row,,,tried to fight david, another one in the top 5,,,then tried to fight povetkin, another fighter in the top 5…the last 2 turned cowardly…so by cleaning out the top 5 fighters vladimir is cherry picking….while haye takes on another old, over the hill fighter who isnt even ranked and we are overjoyed…haye has fought one fighter in the bottom half of the top 10…the rest had losing records over the last 3 years, including ruiz…haye has fought 7 fights in the last 6 years….vitali also tried to sign valuev, haye, and povetkin to a standard contract…and is in talks to fight amadek currently 4 in the world…and haye…oh my his fans seem to be the joke..vitali has fought 3 top 10 fighters in the last 2 years…and haye, oh god, its tiring to go over this.

  • jimmy says:

are you high? the fight with lewis had it gone one more round lewis would have been ko’d.ok he was not in top shape but he should have learned a lesson from the rock fight, anyway briggs is nowhere near the fighter lewis was and we know his stamina will be no better. you thought peter would beat vitali also huh? alot of you writers are nothing more than haters writing what you want to happen instead of writing a non bias column, one thing for sure were gonna find out. vitali in 6.

  • wardy says:

Lewis let briggs hit him flush on the chin and laughed then knocked him out, vitali will demolish briggs after he charges at vit and gets nowhere.

  • Joe says:

Adamek was a great crusierweight, but is now only a good heayweight because he lacks speed and power needed to beat the big guys.

  • where have all the fans of boxing gone? says:

Adamek average? Are you crazy? Do you actually watch fights? There are not many boxers that can give away 3 or 4 stone in weight to another fighter. The only reason he is able to is because of his skill. On top of that he is exciting to watch because he isnt afraid to stand toe to toe and trade shots. All that being said he wont beat vitali but will be exciting while it lasts.

  • Joe says:

Adamek fights for peanuts he will take the fight with the Klitschkos, Klitschkos will take it cause he is small and doesnt punch.

  • LEMAI says:

    OK Vlad; Vitali KO Briggs

  • Vlad says:

As long as both Klitschko brothers are around , they will rule Heavy Weight Boxing. Sorry to say this but that is a fact. Shannon Briggs will come out with all guns blazing , but Vitali will absorb the pressure & take care of Briggs with 8 rounds.

  • daveydmx says:

In a perfect world Haye fights Ademek and Wlad fights Solis with the winners meeting early next year , and just for fun Vitali could give Dave Tua a shot just to end the speculation if Tuaman still has it, I say he gets battered into submission in 5 one sided rounds

  • Argiboy210 says:

i agree technically vitali is not getting worse, he still has the power, but in his last fight i thought he turned like a cargo ship, not that either Adamek who was not known for blistering speed at light heavyweight or shannon briggs could be quick enough or have good enough movement to take advantage of this

as far as Adamek Vs Whitaker its an adamek points victory all night long, for some reason he has lost all power and has to rely on his movement and speed and boxing skill to win, and speed has been severly reduced with the 1 – 2 stone he has put on to get to heavyweight

  • Let's box says:

Spot on James Blond. They really make the opposition look like amateurs. Vitaly with technique and punch output, Wlad with his raw punch power, that scares the other side so much that they refuse to constantly pressure them.
