Schaefer wants to put Khan in with Mayweather in September, but what happens if Khan loses to Maidana?

By Scott Gilfoid: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is getting a little ahead of himself in his desire to put together a fight between Amir Khan and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Schaefer is eying September of 2011 for a fight between Khan and Floyd Mayweather Jr, if Floyd doesn’t fight Manny Pacquiao next year. Presumably, Schaefer’s grand vision could be totally ripped apart at the seams if Khan is destroyed by Marcos Maidana on December 11th.

In an article at the Daily Mail, Schaefer says “If we can’t make Mayweather-Pacquiao in the spring, it may be too late. So this gives us time to build Amir into a pay-per-view star in the U.S.” For Khan to be a PPV star in the U.S, doesn’t he have to beat Maidana? Isn’t that how it goes? What happens when Maidana destroys Khan in two or three rounds? Will Schaefer make Maidana a PPV star? This is hilarious.

If I had a fighter with a glass jaw like Khan, the last thing I would do is start babbling about how he’s going to be fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. next year, when he’s facing a fighter with one punch knockout power like Maidana. I’d be praying that my fighter doesn’t get knocked out again, that’s I would be doing. I wouldn’t be lost in my vision of how he’s going to be a big PPV start, because that would mean that Khan would have to beat both Maidana and the winner of the Devon Alexander vs. Timothy Bradley fight, and I don’t see Khan ever beating the winner of that fight. I see him losing and quite badly. But that fight probably won’t even be necessary if Khan gets destroyed like I think he will by Maidana.

Khan had this to say about Mayweather at the Times: “I would love to fight Mayweather and I believe I can end his unbeaten record.” Oh brother, Khan doesn’t stand a chance against Mayweather. This dude is really getting ahead of himself. He isn’t going to get anywhere near Mayweather after gets stretched by Maidana. Unless Schaefer plans on matching Khan up with Mayweather anyway, no matter if he loses to Maidana, I don’t see that fight happening in this lifetime.

If Khan losses to Maidana, which not a far fetched possibility, Mayweather can go straight to jail. Who cares? I mean, he’s never fighting Pacquiao anyway…

khans actually getting prety good exposure over there,he,s up there, mostly because of his trainer roach, and the camp ,ie ,manny

doesnt hurt having the pound for pound best as a sparring partner every day,he,s gonna be massive in a couple of years,if his chin holds.

Boxing gets stupider and stupider by the day.

Khan vs Mayweather??? Thats GOT to be a joke. What has Khan done? NOTHING. Who has Khan beat? NOBODY.

Not only would it be a total mismatch but nobody knows who Khan is in america

    @KORowe

  • All Knowing says:

    Khan will beat Maidana.
    Bradley will beat Alexander.
    Khan vs Bradley (Probably Bradley)
    Khan vs Mayweather (Mayweather)

  • weslad says:

lol, if khan loses to maidana he wont be fighting mayweather, thats what happens!

  • Anonymous says:

Khan will be ko by Madaina, he’s not gonna end up with Mayweather fight coz he’s not gonna get past Madaina. All of this are just wishful thinking of Schaefer, he also want to get an all inhouse fight just like top rank. Once Khan sleep on a Madaina punch he’ll still gonna realized the biggest fight out there is with the other firm Top Rank.

  • JJ96 says:

honestly i do think its a long shot. He needs to get past Maidana first which currently is his biggets threat. – I say that because if he can handle Marcos’ power well then he should manage bradleys and alexanders.

Mayweather works with golden boy out of choice.
This is a sign that goldenboy are getting a bit tired of mayweathers antics.
The pacquiao racist rant, the criminal charges and being publically courted by another promoter.
Goldenboy are telling him…… Ok mayweather you’re a big player, but goldenboy is bigger
He would be wise to remember this

  • Ben.K says:

Khan wont lost to maidana. To quick,to skillful and to good!

  • MONEYPACQUIAO says:

Pacquiao and Mayweather have everyone fooled…until GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS judgement with Pacquiao ends…that’s when the Mayweather and Pacquiao fight will take place. The same goes for Mayweather…until his contract ends with GBP…THAT’S WHEN WE WILL SEE A PACQUIAO VS. MAYWEATHER FIGHT.

    Where’s my first comment?

  • KORowe says:

Khan will beat Maidana. He has become a great ring technician since moving to the Wild Card gym under the watchful eye of Mr Roach. He has also built up a bit of punch resistance. Not great but he should be able to take all but a haymaker from Maidana.

Ready for Mayweather he is not. In a year or 2 when Floyd is a bit older and Khan hits peak then maybe but its a long shot.

  • Lowner says:

This is very possible but you just can’t admit it. khan is the third biggest draw in boxing at the minute after mayweather and pacquiao and if he beats maidana and bradley he will be huge there would be no1 other then khan for mayweather to fight for the big bucks. anyway thats why schafer is ceo golden boy
