Ricky Burns vs. Roman Martinez this Saturday night

The Scottish Parliament has thrown its weight behind Ricky Burns as the Coatbridge boxer prepares for the biggest fight of his life.

Coatbridge and Chryston MSP Elaine Smith has lodged a parliamentary motion of support for the boxer as he makes his final preparations to land the World Boxing Organization Super Featherweight title at the Kelvin Hall this Saturday.

The boxer has sold over 800 tickets for the fight and Coatbridge will come to a standstill as he steps into the ring to face undefeated Puerto Rican champion Roman Martinez.

“Ricky is a hugely popular figure in Coatbridge and his title fight has got the entire town buzzing.”

“Scotland hasn’t had a world boxing champion for several years now and I’m sure colleagues from all parties will want to wish Ricky the very best of luck as he prepares to step into thering to rectify that.

“He is already a hero in Coatbridge and everyone has their fingers crossed that come Saturday we really will have a Burns Night to remember.”
