Rahman Continues Comeback at WBA KO Drugs Festival!

Former undisputed and two-time World Heavyweight Champion Hasim “The Rock” Rahman (48-7-2, 39 KOs) continues his comeback Saturday night at the Arena Roberto Duran in Panama City, Panama, at the World Boxing Association (WBA) KO Drugs Festival.

Rahman has scored three impressive knockouts since his December 2008 unsuccessful challenge for Wladimir Klitschko’s IBF and WBO Heavyweight Championships. He will be looking to make opponent Marcus McGee the fourth.

“The Rock is rounding into world championship form by keeping busy like this,” said Rahman’s promoter, Greg Cohen of The Empire Sports and Entertainment. “He’s looked unstoppable in his last three fights, but to keep himself thought of as a viable world-title challenger he’s got to continue to look good in every fight.”

Rahman’s battle against McGee will serve as one of the main supporting bouts on a mammoth 12-fight event headlined by Luis “El Nica” Concepcion vs. Denkaosan Kaovichit for the WBA flyweight interim world title and Guillermo “El Felino” Jones vs. Valery Brudov for the WBA regular cruiserweight world title.

“When I started The Empire seven months ago, one of my first goals was to get heavyweight title shots for my two marquee fighters, Shannon Briggs and Hasim Rahman, explained Cohen. “Shannon has his opportunity coming up against Vitali Klitschko. And now, with Hasim fighting on such a prestigious event in front of so many important boxing luminaries, if he scores another impressive win, I can see him moving a big step closer to his title shot as well.”

Even though I admire Rahman as a man who has courage and who carrys himself as an upright guy, I take issue with his choice of an oponnent in Marcus McGee. McGee who you wou would mistaken for an appliance salesman is a real stiff and posesses no solid boxing skills on an elite level. One of his last fights was against Sam Peter and it looked on YouTube that he took a dive to help pave the way for Peter to get the shot with Klitschko. Rahman showed very little resistance in his fight with Wladimir, if he still wants to cut himself out a living with the discipline of Boxing, How bout a rematch with Kali Meehan? A test with Travis Kauffman. Andre Gollatta, or Mike Mollo. Contrary to popular opinion Rahman beat James Toney on a Technical Decision not to long ago, and the Powers that Be robbed him. I guess Toney was more Holywood.
