Pacquiao happy that Mayweather is bringing attention to his fight with Margarito

By Dan Ambrose: In Manny Pacquiao’s recent column at Philboxing.com, he pointed out that he was happy that Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been mentioning him because it’s brought more attention to Pacquiao’s upcoming November 13th fight against Antonio Margarito on November 13h. Mayweather recently put together a racist filled video in which he criticized Pacquiao up and down for 10 minutes. The video has gone viral and it’s now all over the internet.
Pacquiao had this to say in his column: “I am delighted that even Floyd Mayweather is helping to bring attention to my fight because of his slanderous comments against me and his showcase of ignorance, a more people are noticing my fight. Because I won’t have enough time right now, I will further respond to Mayweather’s racial slurs, which shows his rude nature. I know there will be several people that will criticize his rants from today until my next column.”
Pacquiao has stayed remarkably calm despite the things that Mayweather said about him, and has taken a very mature and adult view on all of this.
Pacquiao’s fight with Margarito needs to do really well on pay per view to put Pacquiao in a good position to negotiate with Mayweather on even terms next year.
If the Pacquiao-Margarito fight only brings in 700,000 or less, he may find himself having a tough time justifying a request for a 50-50 financial deal with Mayweather. Floyd’s last fight brought in 1.4 million PPV buys against Shane Mosley. That’s probably who Pacquiao should be fighting now, not the recently suspended Margarito.

I don’t understand why Manny feels the need to “further responds to Mayweather’s racial slurs in his next column”. What else is there to say? Unless…he plans to engage further in this back and forth with Mayweather or use it as a promotional opportunity.

@ Failapino, Let me clear about this issue that pacs signed a contract for both Top Rank and GBP. That was a smart move by pacs because at that time, Pacs had a lousy contract from TopRank. When Arum learned that pacs signed with GBP, he went to the Philippines personally and gave Manny a better deal. The percentage that GBP got was not from Pac’s pocket but from Arum’s pocket.
Failapino, I know you are a Filipino but pretends to be an American. This is a boxing site and people here talk boxing and don’t care about Philippine politics. You called Tyson smart but hey, where is his money now? Also Mayweather’s money will be gone someday due to his gambling habits.

No, it doesn’t void any contract, they still retain rights to his purse, no matter what. Manny fights, GBP makes money. That’s just how it is.
FMJ isn’t a GBP fighter no matter how hard you twist the facts. The reason why he’s been with GBP is almost by default, since he would never work with Top Rank again, and the King stunt is mostly just that, a stunt. Don is still a threat, but he has much less of a presence in the US than he did before – he’s had to go overseas since the demise of the HW’s.
Again, the FMJ-Phag fight was never going to happen and it’s because Arum is done playing nice with GBP. He wants all the money. He’d rather ride Phag several times for a $10 million a pop, then share the gallop for $50 million. He figures he has nothing to lose, since the winner will be a Top Rank fighter no matter what.

Manny’s next three fights are worth ten to twelve fights for their next best fighter behind Floyd.
The reason it was bone-headed, is because Floyd is reportedly on a handshake agreement with them, meaning he can jump ship without repercussion.
If that’s the case, and Manny or Floyd decide GBP shouldn’t be involved promoting, then they lose out on Floyd’s cut, and the PPV action, and all the other money (venue, etc.).
What smoke are you talking about? The only smoke is the stuff Floyd’s been blowing since his dad was allowed back into his life. And that’s the straight talk, like it or not.

Of course Pac is staying calm because he understands trash talking is all part of Boxing. Mayorga trashed Oscar’s Mexican heritage, Hopkins threw down the PR flag, and Spain’s basketball team made a racist picture at the expense of the Chinese yet everyone just kinda shrugged and thought of the incidents as clean heckling. It’s not like GBP had anything to lose, they STILL take points on the dollar for every Phag fight, and Mayweather has no contract with them, nor does he have a contract with any promoter. He only does one-offs, and that applies to Don King as well. So in the end, GBP loses nothing. Phag wasn’t going to fight any GBP fighter because Arum is a complete ego-maniac who can’t stand the thought that two of boxing’s most successful PPV attractions were former Top Rank fighters who had the guts to throw off Arum’s yokes. Both DLH and FMJ have made hundreds of millions of dollars, all at the expense of Arum. The Phag-FMJ fight was dead in the water from the very start, and Arum’s only intention was to be able to say he ‘tried’ to make the fight and save face. Need proof? All of Phag’s fights since then have been against TR fighters. There was a brief moment when GBP and TR tried to make nice and co-promote (Barrera, DLH, Phag, Hatton, etc. etc.) but that moment is over.

Very simple. Golden Boy Promotions, who still take a percentage of Manny’s earnings, should not have come within a mile of the PED’s accusations back in December. But not only did they side with Floyd, they put out an official statement with the accusation. Not to mention Hoya himself changing his story with regards to Manny’s punching power.
Just a bone-headed move. May have cost them the fight to be honest.

Margarito is not bad choice for Pacquiao. I don’t see any other fighter there that will give interest to the Fans except Margarito. His fan base are overwhelming. In Dallas alone last friday he was the crowd favorite. The 51,000 fans that Manny brought in last time will be back plus the additional of these crowd could fill that 100,000 seats easy. Mark my word. This is an action pack match-up. Small guy is expected to floor a big strong guy. Never underestimate the magnitude of this fight for boxing fans are hungry.
