By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. was having some fun venting about his arch rival Manny Pacquiao on UStream, talking about his English skills, his contracts and about wanting him to take the random blood and urine tests before he’ll fight him. This is some of what Mayweather had to say about Pacquiao: “That motherf*&ker Pacquiao. He can’t speak no English. he ain’t never seen a contract he didn’t like…We all know Poochio only make $6 million for his last fight and Floyd Mayweather Jr. made $65 million in his last fight.” Mayweather went on about a lot of other stuff, but most of it was littered with angry “F” words and not worth going into.

On the other hand, Pacman might not be as good as Mayweather on speaking english, but at least he can still relate, understand and speak it than millions of other people out there. Plus, since he can speak 2, 3, or 4 other languages. Can Mayweather do that? Don’t think so! I also think that regardless of all this, Pacman has a great heart because he has been helping hundreds of people from his country who are unfortunate. And he didn’t just use the money for himself and his family, but also to those who needed help.
People I am sure you have a number of friends from different cultural backrounds. Maybe you sit around you make fun of yourselves among yourselves. I am sure none of you feel you are racist and none of you believe you are. Acting like a fool and behaving like idiots among frineds does not make anyone a racist or else the whole world world be.
Now if you are a casual person that behaviour is often seen as funny. But if you are public figure e.g. politician or actor etc someone who does not know you sees that, guess what? You are now labelled as a racist. Sure your friends will come forward to vouch for you but what?
Some people are married to someone from the another race but still act hostile to others from that same race. Geez, people act hostile to their own race. As I said before just because one person who is a close friend does not get upset because you and a group of friends have harmless fun at his expense, that should never be done to everyone you meet from any of the same race or races.
Not everyone thinks the same thing is funny yet people meet new people for the 1st time and immediately start off jokes that are border-line racist. I do not condone racist jokes or laughing at people’s accents. If we English speakers speak a foreign language, guess what? we have a foreign accent too. The point is as we rise in position of stature we must learn not to participate in such behaviour even if as Floyd says it was just fun. Nothing good can come of it period!
How can we be sure he did not mean what he said? Apologies can be sincere but often are not and are merely designed as a public relations ploy to get win back fans. Floyd needs to get away from the hangers-on and yes men he has with him. It will get worse than this because none of them has the guts to tell him he is wrong! They fear for the immediate paycheck and not for his long term future. Just ask Tyson who blew $3,000,000. Nuff said!
And to think all of this came about because Floyd initially said he would fight Manny if Manny said so. When Manny heard that he immediately went on camera and called him out. Recall Floyd jumped on JMM for calling him out but for some reason he engaged in a war of words which people said was to build the fight. But it has escalated now to bigotry.
Whatever happened to fans telling fighters to shut up and fight. We want to see you fight not hear you talk. Instead we get fans using the opportunity to get things off their chest about people of other cultures that they work with or for, live with or whatever else. It seems to take nothing to incite a race war…LOL really LOL!
