Look for Briggs to make Vitali Klitschko look old on 10/16
By Dave Lahr: WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (40-2, 38 KO’s) has been able to extend his career due to his superior size compared to other heavyweights in the division. With his hand speed, movement, punch output and reflexes having deteriorated badly in the past two years, Vitali has been able to continue to find success based on his huge size alone. In choosing the huge 6’4” 260 pound former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs (51-5-1, 45 KO’s) to fight, Vitali has made a calculated mistake that he’s going to be sorry for on October 16th when he meets up with Briggs at the World Arena, in Hamburg, Germany.
Vitali used to be able to punch hard at times when he was younger, but in losing a lot of hand speed through age, Vitali has lost a lot of power along with it. Vitali is now a fighter who is probably punching at around 80% what he used, but his loss of hand speed makes it nearly impossible for him to land his power shots.
This is perhaps why Vitali is trying to milk his World Boxing Council title against fighters that he thinks he can easily beat. Up until now, Vitali has been pretty successful in selecting his mediocre opposition. But Vitali has made a huge mistake in picking a fighter that he thinks no longer has it, because is still very much alive.
Sure, he’s been in hibernation mode but it’s been more of a case of suspended animation rather than someone who has been wasting away through age and inactivity. Briggs is going to open Vitali’s eyes and then shut them on October 16th when he knocks Vitali out in front of a huge shocked German crowd in Hamburg.
Vitali’s not going to know what hit him when Briggs tags him with a big left hook and right hand to the head. I see Vitali falling like a big tree on the canvas and making a huge thud. They better bring a medical team and a good sturdy stretcher because they’re going to need one that can support Vitali’s weight.

I have been waiting for one of the Klitschko brothers to fight Briggs for a long time now. It’s about time that one of them stepped up. Wlad was supposed to fight “The Cannon” a few years ago, but he took on Calvin Brock instead. I am a fan of the Klitschkos and Briggs and can’t wait for these two true big men to get it on. Gotta root for Briggs though.
Vitali is 39. Briggs is 38. How do you know Briggs isn’t going to “look old?”
You’ve got to be kidding? Shannon will tire early in the fight, get stopped, then blame asthma. Klitshko by KO in the 5th.
Dear Davey Boy,
Thanks fer writing dem great articles about de latest sucker to face de K-Boys! We’s hoping dat everybody bets on Briggs this time, so we’s makes lots of dough on the big K-Boy winning. Da check is in de mail.

Briggs is a very big ugly guy who is capable of beating up the mediocre of boxing, however in opposition to a dynamic boxer the likes of VK Shannon Briggs will be lucky to still be standing at the end of 12. This fight will mean a pizza face for Briggs as well as a good chance for Vitali to hone his skills for upcoming contests.
Personally I see Briggs refusing to come out somewhere in the second half of the fight being satisfied instead to simply collect his payday and then making his move for the nearest KFC as soon as the swelling in his face subsides and his head stops throbbing.
Dave Lahr what are you smoking and where can i get some?
To even suggest that Brigs has a chnce makes you a bigger joke than Brigs.
hmm… I wish i could say Lahr was right. All we can do is cross fingers and hope for the best (Klitskhos getting knocked out)
slow and no punches in last two years.Did mr.Lahr see the arreola fight punch stat?
Come on guys, Dave is just trying to get a rise out of us.
You know, generate a little excitement. I don’t really think Vitaly has slipped. You can’t judge him off the fight with Kevin Johnson, where Johnson’s only objective was to survive and make Vitali look bad. Every great fighter has faced that kind of opposition at some point in his career. Louis vs Godoy I (You Tube) is a prime example, Muhammad Ali vs Jimmy Young is another. Vitali’s fight with Sosnowski was a stay busy fight. Klitschko softened him up and took him out when he wanted to.
A Lahr article! It must smell like rancid poops!
It once again time for VIEWER MAIL !
Dear Dave,
What are your thoughts on global warming and do you feel that the climate is truly changing? (I thought this might be more down your alley since you appear to know nothing about boxing other than how to bash boxers)
Thanks again! T-rock
PS. tell paul and the band hello!
As much as i would love briggs to do it, he has a huge mountain to climb. Yes he has power, but he gets tired so quick. If he hits vitali flush several times, then yes he could stop him only on cuts. Im afraid briggs will run out of gas, and get stopped about 7 rounds. Vitali hits bloody hard. People just dont realise how strong these 2 brothers are. It would be great if briggs rocked him mind.
your not using your boxing expertise again are you dave ,is your boss blind and deaf ,how do you keep your job ,don’t you get tired of making these foolish predictions, come on man its right in front of your face, these two brothers are the best fighters the world has seen yet ,there smart fighters that can think there records say it all ..
Dave, it’s nice to read your predictions, unfortunally you are usualle wrong… Yes, Vitali has slipped, however, I think Vitaly in his heydays would have, with relative ease, beaten legends as Ali and that mediocre clubfigter, Marchiano, who feasted over fat old lightheavyweights..
Vitali has been “successful in selecting his mediocre oppostion”. Doesn’t say much for your hero Sam Peter then, does it Dave? Or have you gone off him now? You’ll have to forget Briggs too when he gets beat. Keep to flippin burgers Dave, leave the writing to people with brains. The only thing your heros could milk are their titties! Better athlete my Lahrse!
Amen to that! But then I suppose that’s not a new experience for him.
Look for Dave Lahr to look foolish on October 17.
