Image: James DeGale vs. Carl Dilks predictionBy William Mackay: This Saturday’s Magnificent Seven fight card has a couple of decent match-ups, but there’s more than a few fights that appear to be big mismatches as far as I can tell. The fight between 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist James DeGale (7-0, 5 KO’s) and Carl Dilks (14-2, 5 KO’s) appears to be another one of the less than competitive matches on the card, at least on paper.

Dilks, 26, can punch a little bit but he’s painfully slow of hand and wide open on defense. Dilks hasn’t faced anyone near as good as DeGale, and it’s going to be interesting to see how well Dilks can do against him. It’s not a good sign that Dilks was beaten by Darren Stubbs and Charles Adamu last year in 2009.

Those are fighters that DeGale would likely easily beat, yet Dilks struggled badly against both. Sure, I think Dilks should have been given the nod in his fight with Adamu, but the bout was still close enough to where you could make a case for him losing the fight.

Again, DeGale would probably destroy both Adamu and Stubbs, and I could see him doing it on the same night back to back. This is why I just don’t see Dilks being competitive with DeGale. He’s too slow and too basic to handle DeGale’s power and quirky way of fighting.

DeGale has a lot of talent, and he’s probably going to be a world champion within two years. He’s really tough to fight because of his unorthodox fighting style and his power seems to be getting better and better as he is sitting down on his punches more than he used to.

Prediction: DeGale by 6th round KO
