Will we be seeing a rematch between Pacquiao and Margarito if it does well on PPV?

By Chris Williams: Despite the Miguel Cotto vs. Manny Pacquiao bout being totally one sided fight with Pacquiao easily beating Cotto, we’re still going to be seeing a rematch between the two fighters next year largely because the fight brought in 1 million pay per view buys and probably also because Bob Arum doesn’t have too many other popular fighters around the welterweight division to match Pacquiao up against.

However, I’m wondering now if the November 13th fight between Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito ends up doing well on PPV, and brings in something in the neighborhood of 1 million PPV buys, will be seeing a rematch between them as well next year, even if the fight is horribly uncompetitive? I bet we will.

With the fight between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. possibly never to happen, I can see Bob Arum giving Margarito another shot at the apple by matching him back up against Pacquiao no matter how one sided his fight is with Pacquiao in November.

If it brings in good money, my guess is we’ll see them in the ring again real soon if Arum can’t put together the fight with Pacquiao and Mayweather. Arum doesn’t have a lot of other big stars near the welterweight division and guys like Vanes Martirosyan and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. would likely be too one sided a fight.

I can see Arum putting them in with Pacquiao if the Margarito vs. Pacquiao fight brings in rotten numbers, because they would be new blood and he wouldn’t have many alternatives after he already matches Pacquiao back up with Cotto in a needless rematch.

There won’t be anyone left for him to put with Pacquiao in his Top Rank stable, so I can see Martirosyan and Chavez Jr. getting the call. I would much prefer to see Pacquiao up against someone like Sergio Martinez, Paul Williams or Andre Berto, but I can’t see that happening.
