Schaefer says Juan Manuel Marquez will be going after Katsidis next, not Khan

By William Mackay: It’s looking now like WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (51-5-1, 37 KO’s) will be sticking with his own division for awhile to defend his titles against World Boxing Organization lightweight interim champion Michael Katsidis (27-2, 22 KO’s) next instead of moving up in weight to take on World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s), according to the latest boxing news from Dan Rafael. This obviously isn’t going to please Khan, because he had been hoping to take on the smaller Marquez and try to build a quick name for himself by beating the smaller, older, slower Mexican boxing legend.
Khan can often says that his opponents price themselves out of fights against him by asking for too much money. You have to wonder whether Maidana will be put in that category by Khan, so that he can move on and take on someone like little known light welterweight contenders Brunet Zamora and Alberto Mosquera.
Marquez is being smart by sticking to fighting in his own weight division. He’s really pushing it to be fighting at lightweight, because he spent most of his career fighting as a featherweight until recently. It would make no sense to move up to the light welterweight division to take on Khan, who’s trying to make a name for himself in the United States and isn’t someone that will get Marquez any closer to a fight against Manny Pacquiao. Arum has even said it himself. For Marquez to get a third fight against Pacquiao, Marquez will have to beat a welterweight like Joshua Clottey or Andre Berto.

Kat must be pumped for this challenge.I think he is better now than when he fought Baby Bull Diaz & Casamayor.Should be a nasty encounter.Kat should be just as strong as Marquez,but can he be as skilled?

Good fight matchup between Katsidis vs. Marquez and Zab vs. Khan. Make it happen.
this is what should happen. JMM will get by Katsidis with an easy unanimous decision. Maidana will knockout Amere Con. Then it’ll be JMM vs Maidana for the title and JMM will outbox Maidana and become the first mexican to win 4 title in 4 different weight classes. Since JMM and Maidana fight under Golden Boy, it’ll be an easy match to put together.
Why on earth people want to see Marquez fight Manny when everone thinks he will be beaten by Khan on LWW!! Marquez would have to go up to WW if he was to fight with Manny and we saw what happen to Marquez when he moved to WW last time. I think Marquez should slowly put his gloves up!
Who has Khan ever given a beating two? khan as been Knock down by Willy limond Michael Gomez and knock out by Prescott,look at Khans face after the Paul maligaggi fight,Most of Khan fights have been wave to a halt with his opponents still standing!!Khan having thrown a barrage of pitter patter average power punches similar to joe Calzaghe,we will see how good he real is when he steps in with the likes of Bradley, Maidana, Mayweather Etc.

marquez went up to weight division to fight mayweather, but his not willing to go up one weight division to fight khan, even tho fighting khan would give him more money than fighting katsidis
when marquez went up two weights to fight mayweather, not one person said mayweather is fighting the weaker, smaller older fighter. So why write articles pointing finger at khan?

Great news. Katsidis and Marquez will be one hell of a fight. All out action. Khan doesn’t deserve a fight against the legend Juan Manuel Marquez. I reckon Khan should man up and try to fight Maidana or the winner of Bradley/Alexander.

This is a very wise move for JMM. Khan would eat him up much worse than Mayweather did. I would love to see it though. Katsidis should be an entertaining win for Juan Manuel.

Y is it wen boxers r fighting diffrent opponents thy accept the money without much fuss but when it comes to khan they want triple the amount of cash. I like how Marquez is too old, slow and would be “ballooned” up to 140 to fight Khan, but then they call Pac a ducker for not fighting him. Plus Mayweather gets credit for running a clinic on him just one year ago. Which one is it? Would have been a good fight for Khan IMO.
