Remillard calls out Burgos for WBC mandatory position

LAS VEGAS, NV (August 25, 2010) Undefeated featherweight Matt “The Sharp Shooter” Remillard is ready for his next fight and has his long range scope set on Juan Carlos Burgos, the World Boxing Council’s #1 rated featherweight.

“I’m ready to fight him tomorrow. Burgos is similar to me, we’re both young, all-action fighters and the World Boxing Council has mandated that he fight the highest rated available contender. I’m looking at the rankings and numbers 2 through 6 all have fights scheduled” said the Hartford, Connecticut native Remillard.

Remillard, 22-0-0 with thirteen knockouts, is coming off a devastating fourth round stoppage of veteran Carlos Rivera on May 22nd at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT.

Fighting out of Tijuana, Mexico, Burgos has compiled a record of 25-0-0 (18KO’s) since turning professional in December 2004. Like Remillard, Burgos is only 22 years old.

Continued Remillard, ‘This is a true fan’s fight. I’ve seen Burgos fight and he’s very aggressive, similar to me. It would be a tremendous fight from the opening bell between two of the best young featherweights in the world, and we’re both undefeated.”

“I’m proud to be ranked # 7 by the WBC, but I want to fight for a world title and facing off against Burgos is the path for me.”

Remillard is promoted by TKO Boxing Promotions.
