Margarito Doesn’t Deserve a Big Payday Against Pacquiao

By Shaun Campbell: With speculation increasing about the possible match-up between Antonio Margarito and Manny Pacquiao, there question remains, why should Margarito be involved in such a big fight? This is a man who deliberately tried to give himself an unfair advantage over Shane Mosley, and we are left wondering how long had Margarito been cheating?
Now he is in search of a state that will grant him a boxing licence. But why should a proven cheat be allowed to get the biggest payday of his career? It could be argued that the same case should have been made against Shane Mosley after testing positive for performance enhancing drugs. The case is Margarito could have seriously injured an elderly fighter, and the claims he makes about “not knowing” are simply ludicrous.
Hopefully the commissioners in charge of considering Antonio Margarito for a boxing licence remain strong and do not grant him one.

Pacquiao fighting Margarito is whole lot better than Mayweather / Marquez. Atleast Pacquiao got a balls moving up in weight not like Mayweather cheated 2 lbs against a bloated lightweight.

You should ask Phagiao since it was Phagiao’s choice to fight Plasterito.
Arum came to Phag with two choices (because Slob Arum isn’t going to let Marquez anywhere near Phag), either rematch Cotto or fight Plasterito.
Of course, Phagiao won’t go anywhere near Miguel at a higher weight, and since Plasterito suddenly (and suspiciously) looks totally mediocre after having his wraps completely scrutinized (funny how before geting caught, Plasterito was KTFO out of big punchers like Cotto and Cintron, but once caught, looks like utter garbage against a journeyman like Garcia and against an elite welter like Mosley, he gets KTFO).
Oh, and of course, Phag demands the obligatory catchweight.

Morales already said that Mayweather is just playing all of you. It has been rumored that Pac and May are fights that are not meant to be.

I agree, but tell that to Arum. Pacquiao’s willing to fight anybody (Marquez included), but this guy doesn’t have the time to deal w/setting up fights. That’s what he pays old man Arum for.

you make good points but i think the difference is that with shane mosley he had just come off of totally destroying MARGARITO and very easily beating a guy that some say (not me) but some say was a great fighter.
yes you are right that people can make excuses to justify anything left or right the problem for me atleast is when you go back to back to back against an opponent that has no biz in their with you when their is better opposition and i understand the politics as well.
i happen to have a good friend that is a boxing promoter and i dont mean small fights hbo as well as ppv so i get to hear alot about the politics of boxing and at the end of the day it’s not about who wins it’s all about the best way to make the most cash

I hear what you are saying but I don´t quite agree with what you are putting out there essentially as ´excuses.´ The fact that Manny won all of those fights has forced so many to look for excuses as to why that happened just like when Floyd beats Mosley many say it was because he was gassed due to his 38 years. If Manny would have lost any one of those fights or if FLoyd would have lost to a 38 year old SM those arguments would then be flipped on their heads. Shane would be a young 38. Oscar would have been lighter and faster due to the lower weight. Hatton would have been tougher because of the experience gained in hard fought fight with Kosta and the loss to Floyd etc etc. If we have to look for excuses as to WHY someone won I think we are grasping at straws. This happens in every sport and it´s usually the detractors and haters making the excuses for why someone won. The fact is that Manny beat all those guys and really at the end of the day that´s all that matters, for every excuse we can give why he won we can give for why the other guy lost, it´s pointless and it puts us on a merry go round of never ending excuses that can be used one way or another.
At the end of the day the win is all that matters in any sport.

I agree with you 100% in that they need to do something to put Manny’s name in the clear. They can’t just explain themselves out of these questions, which ever way they turn. Action speaks louder than words.

Mosley also took the commissions tests you are talking about and was never caught, even though he admitted later that he was taking PEDs. So if I were you I wouldn’t put much faith in the commissions tests.

You’re blantly wrong. Manny took every drug tests required by the boxing commission, not of course at the caprice and whims of a dictator.
Pac was also knocking opponents and thro a thousands punches in the past, the present and in the future. Nothing is new with Manny and his only secret is hardwork and hardwork. Stop making stupid accusation.
Floyd can throw that many punches and Floyd can knock some of these guys out. He just chooses to box more than fight.
Its a lame excuse this drug stuff theres no proof what so ever Pac does them, theres paperwork for tests from every fight hes ever had that proves he doesnt.
Going off the facts the decision wavers towards Pacman not being a cheat.
Im strugglin to believe that people would rather side with an argument with no proof or substance is favoured to the one that Floyd just wants Manny to give blood and feel weak like he did last time he did this type of test.
Floyd is powerful and strong at the weight as is Pacman, they both came through the same divisions to get where they are now. Its just a lame argument to me that Pacmans accused of drugs for doing the same thing as Mayweatrher.
Folks, here´s the reality. Margarito is the equivalent of an ex con that was just released and Arum Enterprises is giving him the VP position where he will make more money than he has ever made. Surely undeserving and a quite illogical move but this is the reality.
Arum is keeping everything in house. He gives Margarito a shot at redemption against the P4P Champion while he gives Manny the chance to fight a slow, easy to hit brawler that has a HUGE following that will ensure PPV numbers and an exciting fight. Arum wants us all to forget about the Clottey debable so he throws Margarito in the hopes of accomplishing the following: 1) Exciting fight for the fans with lots of punches and knockdowns which makes us all forget about Manny vs the Wall and in turn gets us even more excited about Manny vs Floyd 2) High PPV numbers giving him more leverage for the Floyd fight and 3) Margarito gets beat down thus appeasing the fans that just see him as a cheater anyway and thus serving as the sacrificial lamb.
And all the while Arum keeps it inhouse and makes double the cash. This is the reality folks. Margarito doesn´t deserve this payday or this fight at all. He should have to fight the 5 toughest guys in the division and if he won all those fights then maybe he would deserve a shot but this is business and this is Arums world, we just live in it.
mosley actually cheated de la joya by using steroid and never receive suspension, margarito attempted to cheat mosley using a illegal plastered hands and got suspended for one year. He did his time and now he deserve a second chance. If floyd is nowhere to be found I rather have margarito fight. I’m a boxing fan and I like to watch a fight and I don’t think about anything else. Just give me a fight!!!

Floyd is not moving up in weight and knocking out his opponents. He’s not throwing over 1000 punches in a fight either.
So a guy moving up in weight, keeping his speed, Knocking out big guys, and throwing so many punches without getting tired is not normal. This is why people were raising their eyebrows. When you move up in weight something has to give (unless you are superman or using PEDs).
The stringent drug test would have helped to prove that Manny is, perhaps, Superman and not using PEDs. But the guy refused to take the test.
So you can’t blame anyone for suspecting that Manny is using PEDs.
I never heard Floyd fans pushing their idol to fight pacquiao. Are they giving up with him but embarrass to admit it? Instead they are now trying to ruin pac/margarito fight to cover up floyd’s cowardice. I’m just wondering.

There are two ways to look at this. The theory and the reality. Theoretically, no he shouldn’t get his License back, he knew his gloves contained a hard plaster like substance (plaster of Paris) which would obviously enable him to punch harder and thus cause more damage. This is an obvious advantage, and I would go as far as to say he would have stopped Sugar Mosely. Consider the damage he did to Cotto’s face.. I remember watching the highlights at a friends house and passively commenting that ‘Antonio must have hands like stone’ little did I know that this was in a round about way the truth.. Realistically, he will eventually get it back because Boxing is a Sport AND Business and Margarito will persuade the Board he deserves another chance in the US as his fighting style will atrract crowds and everybody is interested to know about the ‘bad guy’ or the guy who plays the bad guy role, a la Tyson, Floyd etc.. and a fight with Manny will address what seldom happens these days , a Big name fight which lives up to the hype with a good amount of Excitement and drama with it. Manny would stop him late IMHO

Floyd’s fans, If you don’t like Paquiao to fight Margarito, then why don’t you encourage your idol to fight Pacquiao. This is the fight we both like, right!! Then convince Floyd to renegotiate. Let Pacs know what Floyd wants and talk it over. There’s always a solution on every deal.

Do you think it’s time for Floyd to step up if he really wants to fight Pacquiao and ask for re-negotiation. If he doesn’t like to fight this year, he can ask for January or February schedule. I’m sure, Pacquiao, Arum and HBO will willingly cancel Margarito’s fight on November 13 to accommodate Floyd. What do you think boxing fans?
