Margarito denied boxing license by California Athletic Commission – Breaking news

By Eric Thomas: Just moments ago, former two-time welterweight champion Antonio Margarito was rejected in attempting to get his boxing license back by the California Athletic Commission by a 5-1 vote with three not voting. Margarito will now have to hope that the Texas Athletic Commission will grant him a boxing license to fight in the U.S. Pacquiao’s advertiser, Michael Koncz, has said recently that there’s a good chance that Pacquiao will be licensed by the Texas Commission. If so, then Margarito’s prayer’s are answered. If they say no, then the Pacquiao vs. Margarito fight will likely head to Monterrey, Mexico for November 13th. In hindsight, Bob Arum, the promoter for Margarito and Pacquiao, perhaps should have waited until Margarito had successfully gotten his boxing license back before choosing him as Pacquiao’s next opponent. Margarito, speaking to the commission, said “All I’m saying is I did not know what was in these wraps. I’m being completely honest with all of you and with all the boxing people. That’s why I broke my relationship with Capetillo, which was hard, but it’s what had to be done.”

If anything OTHER than gauze and tape applied to the handwraps for protection is used then one would have to assume the boxer/trainer are doing somthing illegal. Otherwise no one would of questioned or suspended Margarito for the substance that was found.
Margarito has cheated his entire career. He knew about the hand wraps and condoned it. As the California Commission stated, “You are the CEO of your company, You are responsible for everything that happens”.

Calling people Pendejos, isn’t going to get Margarito a boxing license. People want to pull the race card on why Margarito isn’t getting his license back, but the man has not even came out and apologized for what happend. It’s alot easier to believe that someone didn’t know they were being given steriods, than it is to believe someone didn’t know plaster was being wrapped on their hands.

cast plaster, which is not paris plaster does not dissolve in water, in fact you use water to harden it. I use it everyday at work and you can shower in it without it dissolving.

trickster- you really seem to be making a case for Margarito, but the fact is, is that a “pasty white substance” which the California state inspector for the fight determined to be illegal was found in Antonio Margarito’s glove. The only things that are allowed in hand wraps are gauze and tape which were not the case with Margarito’s gloves. Nazim Richardson, Mosley’s trainer, complained that Margarito’s wraps looked too large with a lump. An inspector for the commission agreed and ordered the wraps to be cut off and then rewrapped. The substance was descibed by Shane Mosely’s doctor as “likened to the type of plaster used to make casts”. I agree with you 100%. In the sport of boxing a trainer is your everything. You depend on this individual to guide you in every aspect of the sport. For Margarito to say he had no knowledge of any wrong doing by his trainer is just crazy!!! Margarito, like Luis Resto and Panama Lewis should be banned for life.
Yes, Margo’s comeback fight was less than spectacular…but if you are looking to fight the Pacman, would you want to devastate your comeback opponent like what Pac did to Hatton…what Pac did to Hatton/Cotto/Clottey is the reason why PBF is a bit more than reticent in jumping into the meatgrinder. Margo sandbagged his comeback fight to entice Pacman to a fight…

The old mid thirties fighter that lost to Cotto and struggle against an aging Mayorga suddenly with renewed strenght and vigor destroyed Margo only to gas out after two rounds with the money man. Is Mosley proven background too pristine to give him the benefit of the doubt. Mosley is not Pacman, whose background and reputation is superb.

Testing had not changed, epo was not assayed for and the cream was proven effective to mask the clear. ODL knows this but he has his own demons to hide. The mayweathers knows this and so doing ost against mosley and using the ost issue was a brilliant move, denying mosley the juice, as exposed in that fight, and impugning the accomplishment of the fighter of the decade.

Even more outrageous, travesty upon travesty, was that the real cheat in that fatefull fight with Mosley was Mosley all along who resumed full cycling of both the cream, a testosterone analogue to mask suppression of natural testo when Conte’s rocket fuel, the clear, was used in addition to epo to the point where his hemotocrit exceeded 40 mg per dl.
Nazim was fully aware and was kicking the cans around worrying that it might be detected. He pre empted this concern to a feign check on margarito’s insert which is known, if tested for calcium sulfate, would show positive reading in standard spectrophotometric assay as it is the same substance found in tape backing and used in the manufacture of cotton gauze.
Margarito was falsely persecuted, falsely tried and like Ruben Carter sitting like the Buddha in a ten foot cell, Margo self imposed exile for, now, greater than a year appears not enough for the inquisition looking to publically persecute Margo to assuage boxing’s dirty laundry.
At the advice of Arum and Petrocelli, Margo went along for the ride and accepted the commission ruling without waiting out for the appeal thinking that that would show sufficient contrition despite false and unjust accusation.

What I don’t understand is if Margarito knew nothing about the hand wraps and put all the blame on his trainer Javier Capetillo why didn’t he take legal action against him? I mean if someone damaged my image like Margarito’s and also took away a year of my boxing career I would take legal action against that person. Only thing Margarito did was drop him as his trainer which is really not that bad because Capetillo is still able to train fighters in Mexico and around the world. Why would he let this person walk away so easily with no punishment for his actions? Capetillo action’s cost Margarito money and the ability to provide for his family for a year.
I think Margarito knew more then he let on and I think he’s not going after Capetillo because Capetillo could drop the hammer on him by saying he has done it before.

Margarito is licensed in NJ. The fight will take place in Atlantic City, NJ.
This is why some people think boxing is doggy. So they will leave this guy dangling on a string until they are persuaded to think otherwise. I just wonder what type of persuasion will change their minds.
Boxing sites are reporting that Dallas is going to give Margarito a license to fight there, I would say it´s pretty much a done deal, if for some reason it doesn´t happen there it will happen in Monterrey, I can´t see this fight going to Abu Dhabi.
well the fight between Floyd and Shane came as quite a surprise to boxing fans thru the terrible and unfortunate events that happened in Berto’s life……..maybe now we will be surprised by a Pac vs Floyd fight thru the most deservingly events that are befallen upon Margarito.

If so, that doesn’t bode well for Margarito fighting in the states any time soon.
Mexico and Abu Dhabi have been tossed around, so I guess we’ll see how things shake out.

Like I noted in previous postings, don’t think it will even take place in Texas, but likely Monterrey or the Mid East, more biblical significance.
And Pac choosing Margo…Pac knows that he cannot retire without passing the torch to the people through whom he had found greatness, perhaps in Monterrey, without question to the Redeemer Margarito.
No surprise here. California was way down the list as a possible venue so who cares. It´s almost certain this fight is taking place in Texas in the Cowboys stadium. The massive mexican population will guarantee huge attendance.
