Dawson will school the alligator-armed Pascal

By Dave Lahr: It’s looking really bad for WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (25-1, 16 KO’s) in his fight with Chad Dawson (29-0, 17 KO’s) tonight at the Bell Centre, in Monteal, Canada. I knew that Dawson was the taller fighter at 6’1″ compared to the 5’11″ Pascal, but I didn’t realize how short Pascal’s reach is. It’s only 67″ compared to 76″ for Dawson. Little 5’6″ Manny Pacquiao has a reach of 67″ and he’s five inches shorter than Pascal. Man, this is going to be like child’s play for Dawson to win this fight.
I’ve seen a number of Pascal’s fights, enough to know that he’s terribly limited in terms of boxing skills. He is fast, though. He’s kind of like the Canadian version of Roy Jones Jr., but I’m talking about a watered down version of Jones, not the prime Jones. I think Dawson is going to be laying into Pascal from the get go with 1-2 combinations to the head.
I don’t expect much body work from Dawson, although he can throw well to the body when wants to. With his reach, he’s just going to be hitting without getting hit back. This won’t even be fair after awhile. I think the referee better be ready to step in at some point to save Pascal from taking a beating.
I just hope he doesn’t give Pascal a long count if he gets dropped a couple of times, because he won’t be doing him any favors by saving him from a knockout. It’s better just to let the fight be stopped once Pascal kisses the canvas. He won’t be landing anything, so the referee needs to be merciful and stop the massacre.

The more i read this article Dave Lhar the more i chuckle, this must be without doubt the worst pre fight prediction/analyisation of a fight i think i have ever seen. You basically gave pascal not even a punchers chance against Dawson even though Pascal has only one defeat, a paper thin decision to Froch in England, and based on that performance i gave Pascal more than a chance in this one. Granted i made Dawson a slight favorite but stated that ‘only a fool would write off Pascal because of the reach disadvantage’. Pascal has and has previously shown heart, determination, balls and class to go with his OBVIOUS talent.
Dave Lhar in future before you put all your eggs in one basket, nerver write any boxer off who holds a solid record and an alphabet belt. You’d have been better saying ‘Expect fireworks and high drama in tonights light heavyweight shootout between two young lions when they collide for the Lineal world light heavyweight championship’ in Canada. At least this way you could have given your usual biased opinion but at least it would have sounded like there was a decent well matched fight taking place instead of the ‘Alligator’ shoot you predicted. pascals got a great chin we could tell this from the froch fight. thats why dawson never went for a knock out it would have been a waste of time. im not that surprised that pascal won after all dawson has been lazy in the past

I agree totally anything can happen in boxing short reach or not. Only a fool would write of Pascal because he has a 9 inch reach disadvantage, the guy can fight and has a huge heart. He will take Dawson into the trenches and either make or break him. Peace x
@Ulol you have to remember Pascal is not a mike tyson. haha.
The impossible can happen. Look at Mike T, he was way shorter in height and reach from almost all of his opponents, but early in his career, he knocked all of them. In boxing, anything can happen.
