Dawson could fight Bute at a 172 pound catchweight after Chad beats Pascal – News

By Jim Dower: If and when former two-time light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson beats World Boxing Council light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal on Saturday night, Dawson will be looking to fight IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute next at a 172 pound catchweight, according to the Canadian Press.
Bute’s IBF super middleweight title wouldn’t be on the line, so if he gets beaten by Dawson, which is likely, then Bute wouldn’t lose anything than some hurt feelings. The fight would take place in Canada and that would be something for Bute to look forward to. Dawson’s promoter, Gary Shaw, thinks that Dawson can win over the Canadian boxing fans if he can beat both Pascal and Bute and become one of the home town darlings.
I just can’t see Bute doing it. His career opposition has been so unremarkable that I couldn’t see him stepping it up at this point now that he’s 30. I can’t see it. Dawson would be a huge risk for Bute and I think he would likely be better off tending his garden facing guys like Librado Andrade and Edison Miranda, fighters that he can beat.
It will be interesting to see if Dawson can even get a fight with Bute, because if he looks too good in beating Pascal, Bute could be scared of less likely to fight him in the future. Bute has had a good thing the past few years with the weak super middleweight opposition. Now that the division has suddenly improved, Bute is facing a much less certain future with talented fighters like Andre Ward and Andre Dirrell breathing down his neck. Dawson is one more dangerous threat to Bute, and likely too good of a fighter for him to beat.
Dawson has to get by Pascal on Saturday for his dream of fighting Bute to come true. Dawson figures to need little more than his jab to dominate the shorter Pascal. He’s not going to try and brawl with him needlessly. Dawson’s whole focus is to win the fight above anything else.

If Carl Froch can outbox Jean Pascal the I have no doubt Chad Dawson will, 1000Euro of my money is on Dawson.

Then he fought two use to be great fighters in their 40s.
And now some “experts” are saying Bute would be afraid of fighting Dawson… All he wants to do is fight the best out there but the Super 6 is holding him from showing is greatness.
If, yes IF Dawson beats Pascal, which will be really hard to do then Bute will show Dawson what is fast, what is power, what is heart and what is strategy.

Now now all you people,I personally would like to see “Bad” against Andrade.That’s right see the outcome and then maybe Bute will take a look at him.Bute does not need Chad for anything(although Bute is a much more talented fighter).
I guarantee Andrade would knock Bad’Ass Chad out.

More bloody catchweights. Whats the point of this fight? Its certainly no mega showdown, nobody cares about it it wont make much money and if Bute is interested at fighting at Lightheavy he should move to Lightheavy.
And after reading the headline i hope Pascal smashes this tool more than i already did.
Pitting best fighters in boxing against each other regardless of who wins will generate money and interest. Both are ranked top ten pount for pound. Both are Southpaws. I am tired of talking about PacQ and mayweather as well. I think the fight would be competitive. Dawson is an inch shorter than Bute but Dawson has a six inch reach advantage. Both are mobile. The odds on favorite would be Dawson. It’s hard to believe Bute would take this fight in the near future. He need to step up competition. How can you go from Jesse Brinkely to Chad Dawson? Respect to Bute if they get this fignt done.
Bute should just go to LH and destroy cloud, but I’m not sure about how he would do against Dawson; he is a slippery dude.
bute could never beat dawson. bute will look like a 10 year old learning how to box if he fights chad dawson.
Bute already talked about going LHW for 1 or 2 fights, while the super6 deprives him of fair opposition in SMW. At 172, it is not enough to slow him down, Bute beats the sh*t out of Dawson. But it is more likely to be Hopkins that Bute will go after, because of the PPV potential.
This would be a great match, but why another catch weight??? You have two champions and neither one will fight at the other’s weight…this is what’s wrong with boxing today. Both guys have said they can make the other guy’s weight, so why not make it a legit title fight…same goes for Manny/Margarito for that matter.
Fight wont happen Bute is scared!! His next fight will be against Cloud.
