Wladimir Klitschko to fight Samuel Peter on September 11th – News

By Eric Thomas: According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, the fight between unbeaten Alexander Povetkin (19-0, 14 KO’s) and IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (54-3, 48 KO’s) is now off. Instead, Klitschko will fight a rematch against former World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Samuel Peter (34-3, 27 KO’s) on September 11th at the Commerzbank-Arena, Frankfurt, Hessen, Germany. Povetkin, 30 failed to attend the recent press conference with Wladimir in Frankfurt, Germany. Povetkin said that he was suffering from a sinus infection and couldn’t make it to the press conference for that reason. Klitschko and his promotional company K2 then took up the matter to the IBF, saying that Povetkin was getting in the way of them promoting the fight by him not attending the press conference.

Samuel was distracted when He came home b4 the Klitschko fight…His back and will definitely give K. the fight of his life..Sami will pull through.
povetkin and haye should have a pillow fight…then neither of them will get hurt…of course theyd both back out…
insider…you need to brighten up dude…you know how much time and effort and money it takes to set up a fight..and you need a venue…you cant just change a multi million dollar affair to 2 wks later…and there was no assurance david would be “healed” in 2 wks or 4…are you just supposed to hold a venue open for weeks just in case…costing millions for a fight that may not happen…and what if david had phosphoned again..and he provided no medical evidence of an injury…why do you pooffs go so far to try and defend him…it makes you look silly…
peter has been in better shape for his last couple of fights and it will be a good chance to see how much vlad has improved…because peter hasnt changed much…he is still a top heavyweight when he is in shape and a threat to anyone….i enjoy peters fights…
richard…a draw you got to be kidding…except for the so called knock downs peter lost every second of every round….and one knock down was a push..one was a rabbit punch, but we will give it to him..so thats 2 10-8 rounds….which leaves 10 10-9 rounds….score then lopsided in vlads favor…and vlad actually hurt peter more in that fight that the other way around…peter got staggered in the last round and said he couldnt remember the fight for 2 weeks…in the end peter had 4 points….vlad had 10…doesnt seem close…he also outscored peter 3-1 in punches landed…do you guys even watch fights or do you just hear about them
It is appauling to see a former champ of the WBC not taking his training seriously.Training ismore than 59% of the key talent is a must ,punching power too but training softly is self defeating as a pro,as peter showed against Eddie chambers.With an all out attack for ten rounds Chambers had little to trade back with but a few combinations.
Let me get this straight. We have three “fighters” that are backing out of a chance at ring immortality by fighthing the Klitschko’s. Haye, Povetkin and Valuev. I don’t see anyboy clamoring to get into the ring with the Klitschko’s save Albert Sosnowski. Vitali handled him with ease. Sosnowski has a lot of heart. At least he got into the ring and gave it his all.
Its too bad that we wont see the Povetkin fight. I mean, Peter is alright, but Wlad has already beaten him. And Wlad improved A LOT in the last 5 years. Peter didn’t.
The only good thing that can come out of this is David Haye showing some balls and fighting Povetkin now.
This would be a great fight, and one that both could win.
Lets hope that this will happen!

It is now official…even the Klitschko bros website has confirmed that Povetkin will not be the opponent. However, it also did not 100% confirm that Peter was the opponent on Sept. 11, only that he was the mandatory challenger and that the ‘governing body’ had instructed K2 to “begin negotiating”. It probably will be Peter, unfortunately.
I do not agree, however, with any criticism against Wlad on this. Povetkin pulled out, not Klitschko. Dan Rafael even quoted Teddy Atlas at length saying that he did not feel his fighter was ready yet.
Punchy-Nobody is getting bypassed.All the top fighters are turning down their chances to fight either of the Klits.The only ones willing are the retreads who can’t make money any other way.
Richard…Peter had Wladimir down twice with rabbit punches and the third while Wlad was walking backwards. No controversial win he lost convincingly 114 to 111 three times, and will lose again Wladimir is so much better now, and improving all the time.
Why does Peter keep getting title shots, when more qualified guys get bypassed? Oh well, boxing politics. That and a division light in talent these days.

It’s not that Povetkin just didn’t appear at the press conference personally – NOONE from his team appeared. NOONE. No “we’re sorry that our champ Povetkin cannot be here, he’s ill, but …”. Instead – nothing. No person, not even any official, no statement, no video, showed up. Just silence.
Plus, he didn’t sign the contract, and also didn’t publicly complain about it or contacted the IBF about the contract being inappropriate. He just sat it out waiting for the shot clock to tick down to get a 24 seconds violation, to COST WLAD MONEY. That was his purpose.
We do not know the credability of all thistalk.But it makes for interesting conversation.
Its good for all of us, who would have liked to watch a amateut-style boxing match (Povetkin).
Peter deserves a second chance against Wladimir, as he had him 3 times on the butt and lost controversialy..a draw would have been the right decision.(he would however not deserve a 2cnd chance against Vitali, there he got totally destroyed)
Regarding Solis – YES its true he backed off 2 times from a fight against Vitali and 1 time Wladimir !!!!
So much about Solis and brave….(watch his records closely and deeply and you know all about him)
Peters trains properly and takes the fight to him,he has shown he can compete.Vitali I believe is more feared than wlad.
Another site is saying that the IBF has confirmed that Povetkin has been removed from their ratings top 10 and Sam Peter is first in line for the fight.Negotiations have begun.

@Adam. The news that Peter had replaced Sasha (Povetkin) was made by Dan Rafael on the ESPN website just today. That man’s sources are usually very trustworthy. However, as I am writing this, I just came off the Klitschko’s website. As anyone who has seen it knows, they usually have a clock counting down (to the second) of when a Klitschko fight starts. That clock, as of this moment, is still counting down and no announcement of a cancellation has been made on the K2 website. So maybe you are right – and I very much hope that you are.
@ INSIDER…If your trying to defend Haye backing out and now Povetkin, your standards are low dude……especially claiming Haye’s back injury was legitimate, the only thing wrong with his back is the big yellow streak he has. I don’t know where you get your facts dude or how you can defend that crap.
@PATPUMP hwo are they a disgrace when these 2 ocassions its bein Wlad who cancelled the bouts when Haye injured his back it was only going to post pone the fight but it was still on and Povetkin he was Ill and he’s not the only person to miss a press conference is he but this seems to be the only guy thats had the plug pulled over it
Povetkin and Haye are both nothing buy a big disgrace to professional boxing. Sam Peter has little or no chance against Wlad but he is there putting his ass on the line again. much to be said for him. Don’t blame the Klitchko’s for this mess cause hardly anyone has the guts to step up and face them. The only real thing to look forward to is when Haye looses his next fight, and who ever takes it from him might have balls enough to fight one of the Klitchko’s
WoWo. I have heard just the opposite about Povetkin v Klitschko. Povetkin v Klitschko is still on. All Klitschko has done is filed a complaint because of promotional issues. The fight was signed and thats that. Povetkin not showing up to a promotional event hardly means this fight is off. Wait and get the correct info before we jump the gun. As for Dana White, of coarse he’s gonna say Boxing won’t be around. It’s his soul competition. Boxing will always be around. It’s crap organizations like HBO that are hurting boxing.
I doubt if Peter has much chance of victory.He certainly has not improved since their first fight but Wlad is much better now.It should be an easy win for Wlad.

With every fight, especially one against the mighty Klitschko’s, experience is gained. If Peters has the guts to face another Klitschko he must plan on using that experience
for a possible upset. There is a reason he is next in line-because he earned the right to be a Heavyweight contender.
Peters is probably training hard this very minute. Other fighters have trained for less time with good results.
I can’t wait for this fight to go down.
Hardly anybody wants to fight Wlad.He is just too good.Povetkin will have to at least fight another eliminator to qualify as a legitimate mandatory now.My guess is he will opt for waiting for Vitali to retire.I predicted this months ago.

Samuel Peter is way better than povetkin and haye because he has the heart to face klitschkos. Guys like haye and povetkin are waiting for klitschkos to get retired and then go for titles but they will never Get respect because now everyone knows they are running scared
Maybe Povetkin has got a sinus infection. I had one earlier in the year and it seriously affected me i couldn’t believe it i was almost passing out. I think if he has a doctor’s note you have to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Povetkin’s legecy is Big Wimpout second only to David Haye.

I just read an article that Dana White was quoted in an interview as saying that he thinks boxing ‘won’t be around much longer’. What really bothered me was that he said it in an empathetic way, as if he liked boxing but felt sorry for it.
After reading that, finding out about this cancellation is the LAST THING I WANTED TO HEAR. I honestly believed this could have been a good fight that would have rejuvenated the HW division. Now even I, a consistent Klitschko fan, am disillusioned. I hate to say it, but Sasha now joins David Haye in the courage department.
To be honest i don’t no what to make of this fight??? Povetkin obviously has some serious issues as this is no the first time he’s been given a chance to fight Wlad for the title and no showed?????? Peace x
