Pacquiao-Margarito won’t be taking place in Las Vegas – News

By Eric Thomas: Bob Arum has decided to withdraw the application for his fighter Antonio Margarito with the Nevada Athletic Commission. Arum had been hoping to get Margarito’s boxing license back with the Nevada Commission so that he could put the Manny Pacquiao vs. Margarito fight at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas.
The Commission voted on the matter earlier this month, rejecting Margarito’s license attempt by a 4-1 vote and telling him to go back to the California Athletic Commission, who had been the ones that had taken away Margarito’s boxing license a year ago after a plaster-like substance, was found on his hand wraps before his fight with Shane Mosley.
Arum said “Because time is running out, we can’t wait for Nevada to make a decision so we have to think about moving the fight elsewhere. The commission, other than Pat, have other views. We decided we can’t engage them in trying to change their views, so we’re taking it elsewhere.”
Margarito will meet with the California Athletic commission next month on August 18th in an attempt to get his boxing license back with them. If Margarito fails to have any success, he and Arum will go elsewhere, possibly to Texas, where the fight would then take place at the Cowboy Stadium, in Arlington, if Margarito can get his boxing license back with the Texas Athletic Commission.
Arum may also try New Jersey, New York or Washington. Arum says “New York wants it. New Jersey wants it. Seattle wants it. But let’s see what happens in California first.”

Margarito has actually never been proven of any wrong doing. The plaster “Blocks” in his wraps were pads that never hardened. Look it up their pantera.More importantly steroids are a disgace to the sport and many of the so called “P4Pers” are juiced up. Margarito in his prime could only be beaten by world class competition (shane mosely) on steroids, that says a lot about the will and fortitude of this guy Margarito.I would rather see two warriors engage in honorable combat,that is boxing,and Pac and Margarito are both warriors.I dont want see Pac chasing little floyd around the ring the whole fight.

I´m with you on this one and the reality is that people watch Pac because his fights are ALWAYS exciting while the majority of people only watch Floyd in the hopes of him losing. Quite a difference when people like to watch you for excitement rather than watching you in the hopes you get beat.

Where ever this fight is held I will pay to watch it. Where do you get your info from? Floyd only made, at best estimates, $24 million against Shane, Shane getting close to $8million and the reason being that the PPVs were well below any estimates. After taxes and after paying his crew the numbers are much lower. So the reality is much much sadder. Floyd has only 1 fire, that´s the love of money and of course Manny fights for money also, every athlete performs for money but Floyd turning down the biggest paycheck of his career speaks volumes of what he really thinks of Manny.

I have to SERIOUSLY disagree with ya there. If we line up the competition over the careers of both Manny and Floyd, Manny has fought the better competition. Manny fought Morales, Barrera and JMM early in his career, all three of which are HOF´s, he´s earned belts in more weight divisions than Floyd or any other boxer in the history of the sport. We could easily go through all of Floyd´s fights and see the poor quality of competition he has fight when much tougher competition existed. The majority of tic tics arguments are emotional and have 0 objectivity. Post after Post after post is pure negativity refusing to give credit to the Fighter of the Decade, you can´t expect anyone to take you seriously when you make emotionally charged arguments about why you don´t like a boxer, it´s childish. At the end of the day it´s all objective, we are not going to agree on everything but when all you post are negative comments it´s just a reflection of serious insecurity issues and obvious anger management problems.

Reading through alot of these post, the more compelling argument seems to be coming from Tic Tic or what ever his real name is. There is a real case to be made about the type of fighters Pacquiao has been facing style wise. Maybe the decission is not his, but it is only so long we can try to ignore it and call everybody that talks about it haters.

Mayweather is undefeated and has skills I have never witnessed in any fighter before. My favorite fighter EVER is Sugar Ray Leonard. Leanord was great but his defense was not as good as Mayweathers.

Styles make fights. Most fans don’t have a full understanding of that concept; so they don’t understand why Pacquiao vs Margarito is an easy fight for Pacquiao. The last time Pacquiao didn’t face a fighter that was a flat footed brawler, his name was Marquez, and many argue he lost both fights against him. I would love to see Pacquiao facing Martinez at 154 besides him facing Margarito at 150, but that is too much of a risk for Arum and Roach.

@Cheez Wiz, perhaps its my heart that doesn’t want Mayweather to fight Cotto. I was a HUGE…I mean YUGE Cotto fan until he took the beat down from Margarito. There is no doubt in my mind Margacheato had plaster in his gloves.
Since then, Cotto has shown he is a BEATEN fighter. I couldn’t sit through watching him get BEATEN again. I like him too much. That’s why I have strong feelings about Margacheato losing his license forever!

Man I have to agree with Crash on this. Until I see Pacquiao up against a fighter who actually boxes rather then stands infront of him and trades, I have to assume he is one dimensional. Him fighting Margarito, isn’t going to change that perception.
Every fighter has a certian style of fighter that they look best against; the type of fighters that Pacquiao does best against are flat footed, come forward fighters with little defense. Ironically, those are the only types of fighter he’s been facing recently. I think Pacquiao would beat guys like the Andre Berto, and Zab Judah types, but the difference is that these guys present a different style besides the style that is best suited for Pacquiao. Guys like Berto and Mosley, actually have fast hands, use head movement, and can use the ring; these are the kinds of styles I have to see Pacquiao up against before I jump on the bandwagon. Maybe he really doesn’t have much of a say in the people he’s fighting or something.
If the old margarito turn up it will be a real war, marg can take a punch and throw lots of bombs.

Pac could have definately put together a fight with JMM instead of the likes of a Joshua Clottey and Magarito. Not enough has been said concerning Pac avoiding a fight Mosely….what is the deal there?….Freddie Roach has already went on record to say that Shane was too good for Pac. Don’t come with this”stale” argument BS just becasue I dont give Pac a free pass like you…….sure he is a very good fighter, but he is clearly fighting guys that are tailored made for him whom just stand in front of him where he tees off on them all night…….how about fighting guys like JMM, Shane Mosely or even Timothy Bradley….or Andre Berto…..at least these guys would do more than just be a punching bag for Pac all night.

I agree with most of what you just said, but the only fight Manny was an underdog going into recently was against Delahoya. Cotto was a quality opponent, but Pacquiao was favored to win that fight, because most experts didn’t like how he looked against Clottey, and most people knew he would beat Hatton; the only suprise was how easily he did it. So lets be real about it.
Why Margarito? The mans a cheat, and he got crushed by Mosley allready. If Pacquiao wanted a shot at the 154 title there are other fighters available who are more deserving of a fight than Margarito. Most Mexicans and Americans are still upset with Margarito for the hand wraps situation, and as far as the Puertorican population is concerned, none of them will be supporting this fight. What do the Pacquiao fans think about this fight?

You´re going to come with that stale argument? Who are you referring to, who is out there besides Floyd that is a top fighter i the last 3 years that has good hand speed? The reality is that there are very few fighters like the one you and so many others mention, the technically skilled, fast handed fighters. There´s Floyd and Shane and that´s about it so take that stale argument out to the trash and put it to bed bro. The haters on both sides are SOOOOOOOO predictable. ¨If Floyd would have fought this guy or that guy he would have gotten killed¨ or ¨If Manny would fight this guy or that guy he would get exposed for the chump he is.´ The fact of the matter is that Manny was an underdog against Oscar, Hatton and Cotto but now the haters act like he was a HUGE favorite.

During Pacs meteoric rise to the top of the boxing world, has he faced any boxer with good hand speed?? Has he faced any boxer lately that just hasnt stood in front of him all night??? Has Pac faced anybody lately who are not a shadow of what they used to be, or someone who is not trying to rebuild their boxing career? Pac is really starting to look like a symbolic champion all of a sudden with very little substance.
Just becasue Antonio Margarito threw 1600 punches against Joshua Clottey whom Pac threw 1200 against means nothing. Against the speedy Mosely, whom Pac is just as fast, Antonio Margarito only managed to throw 485 punches thru 9 rounds……so he was not going to come any where close to throwing his normally high volume of punches. So, if any Pac fans thinks that they will see a fight with both guys throwing 100 punches a round, then they are sadly mistaken.
@Cheez Wiz, just keep in mind; Floyd makes business decisions with every move. He would NEVER, EVER, EVER make a move that would give Manny the PPV advantage. Just look at it that way.

pacquiao-margarito will be an exciting fight, if and only if, margarito is still the margarito before (but of course many will doubt this).
pacquiao, in his fight against clottey threw 1,231 punches or around 100 per round or 33 per minute. impressive? nah, it’s second only to another boxer’s record of 1,675 punches (all time record on CompuBox). and guess who he is… no other than margarito and against the same opponent, clottey. That’s around 140 per round, or around 47 per minute.
if margarito still can deliver that performance against pacquiao, then we are in a hell of a fight come Nov 13.
…but as I’ve said, many will doubt margarito’s capability.
