After all the bragging that the 30-year-old Green had done before the fight and the promises to be too much for Ward, Green was left making pitiful excuses after the fight, complaining about being over-trained and weight drained for the fight. In fairness to Green, he did like starving person at the weigh-in for the fight.

You could see it in his face and his body. Green’s never been a fighter that puts on weight, but he looked as if he had lost muscle everywhere, especially has face had leaned out, making him look as if he had been on a severe diet. That’s not Ward’s fault. He didn’t ask Green work himself to death trying to make the weight.

It’s Green’s fault for taking too much weight off in a short period of time. Had he started slowly, he probably could have trimmed off the weight and made the 168 limit without resorting to taking too much muscle off. But it does make you wonder if Green is really cut out for the super middleweight division if he has to take off muscle to make the weight limit. He might be better off moving up to light heavyweight as soon as the Super Six tournament is over. But for now, Green has got to start earlier in taking off the weight and needs to find the perfect weight where he still has his power.

Against Ward, Green looked like bodybuilder who was in the final stages of cutting up for a bodybuilding competition and not for a fight. Green’s abs were totally defined, unlike his past fights. He’s never looked like a sculpture and he also never looks as much like a human skeleton as he did in the Ward fight.

To beat Kessler, Green is going to have to start applying the intelligence that he appears to have. To listen to Green talk, he sounds like he’s got a lot of ring smarts and would know what to do in the ring. However, to watch Green fight Ward and his opponent before that Tarvis Simms, Green looked like he couldn’t pull the trigger on his punches. You could see Green watching for the holes to throw his shots, but then for some reason or another, Green wouldn’t pull the trigger until it was far too late.

If he fights like that against Kessler, Green is going to get a major beating. Kessler hits hard and punishes his opponents. It’s no picnic fighting Kessler, even if you beat him. Kessler is going to make it hard and land his shots regardless. If Green isn’t throwing punches, Kessler won’t just stay on top of him hitting him with pitty pat shots on the inside like Ward did. Kessler stay on the outside and beat Green up and make him want to quit.

This isn’t a fight where Green can just sit back, grab and arm here and there and look to survive. Kessler will beat the stuffing out of Green if he doesn’t come to fight. If I’m Green, I’m thinking I got no choice but to fight. He’s going to take a beating if he fights like he did against Ward.
