Donaire stops Marquez in 8

By Sam Gregory: In the co-main event of the July 10th edition of Showtime’s Championship Boxing southpaw Hernan Marquez 27-2 with 20 KO’s challenged Filipino Nonito Donaire 24-1 with 16 KO’s for the interim WBA world super flyweight championship in a scheduled 12 round bout.

At the opening bell both men came out fighting in the southpaw stance testing their opponent throwing jabs; Marquez landed a few good shots early on, Donaire landed a solid right hand just before the closing bell.

In the first couple rounds Donaire was able to land his punches first; Marquez was a game fighter and stood toe to toe with his opponent.

In the fifth round Donaire switched back to the orthodox stance; soon after Donaire caught Marquez with a combination that started with a left hook and by the time the right hand landed Marquez was on the canvas.

In the seventh round Marquez landed a combination that had little effect on his opponent. Donaire doubled up on his combinations and in the eighth round Donaire caught Marquez with a left uppercut that stopped Marquez at 2:59 of round eight.

Boxing has proven that it does not belong to any nation but to individual boxers. All nations had great success in sports. It’s just some nations have more boxers than the others. As for philos, they are known to be foul mouth. Jungle does not belong to human beings but to he beast. Come out of the mist and brighten your obscure minds!

Can I respectfully ask g why it seems he/she hate filipinos… boxing is a sport… in fact filipinos loves sports hero… we love Ali, we love lebron james, we love kobe bryant, we love morales, marquez, barrera, we love sugar ray leonard, all sports person who excel in their fields, we admire… they serve as our inspiration to aspire for, not only in sports…

its not only donaire or pacquiao we have here as among the best world fighters..dont compare our brave gladiators but beware of soon to be king of knockouts filipinos who will be born to pound every champion of other race. today it marks our history to dominate in this sport and we will train more feared-no-one fighters every decade…

  • makusog says:

filipinos are strong fighters. nobody can beat them since paquiao has started motivating hugry beasts of bloody fighting here in the.pinoys love knockdown.breaking jaws of other race.

  • Phoocquiao says:

Ok, lets stop being biased and start being boxing fans.

Nonito is good. anyone can see that. is he a perfect fighter right now? No. Obviously he’s good, no one wants to fight the guy.

There were times when he looked like a fighting rooster when he switched back to orthodox. he’s smart, quick and accurate. everything you need in a young fighter.

I think he’ll be even more explosive at the higher weights.

  • Doc Holiday says:

NONITO needs to fight a big name on HBO or SHOWTIME…I haven’t seen him fight since upsetting VIC! I’ve been waiting to see him again, I was impressed with the KO over PRINCE NASEEM JR(VIC).

    @ akemi and BUSHIDO

Filipinos can become successful in boxing but only with help from the PEDs. The Filipinos that do not use PEDs are the ones who lose. Like Ciso Morales, Rey Baustita, Ferderico Cathubay, and Bobby Pacquaio. Melligen forgot to use the PEDs against Rosales. Gorres forgot to use the PEDs against Montiel. Penalosa forgot to use the PEDs against De Leon. Viloria forgot to use the PEDs against Tamara and Sosa. Mayol forgot to use the PEDs against Solis and Hernandez. Banal forgot to use the PEDs against Concepcion. Suico forgot to use the PEDs against Diaz. Rubillar, Caceros, Gamboa, Presbitero, and Lumacad forgot to use the PEDs against Arce. Mepranum forgot to use the PEDs against Miranda. Pacquiao forgot to use the PEDs against in first fight against Morales. etc

  • Matt says:

Nonito reminds me of JMM. A slick seasoned counter puncher willing and able to take advantage of his opponent when they commit themself, or when he makes them miss. He schooled Marquez last night like JMM schooled Pacquiao in both of their fights. Just like he schooled Darchinyan. Congrats to you Nonito, I hope you can continue to polish your skills and craft! You are a excellent smart boxer.

  • Ricky Fatton says:

    @loller -

You call those fast combinations “a lucky punch”?
Were you watching the fight with your arse?

This Donaire is a name to watch out for.
Like Cotto, he’s a natural lefty fighting orthodox. If he can really master switching styles seamlessly, he’s going to be very tough to beat. His physique is misleading. Looks skinny, but boy, he generates power in those hooks.

  • GARRY says:

    @ g;
that’s what he’s looking for to fight the best..bring them on!

  • BUSHIDO says:

The Philippines has the best boxers in the world and they prove it every week.
When your opponet is from those Islands better beware. Pretty Boy Floyd will come to know this when the Pack Man puts him on the canvas..
Floyd would be better off if he didn’t fight him because he can’t win. A Filipino curse has already been placed on him to get knocked out !!!

  • Donnie says:

Donaire kid is all hype, he will soon be exposed once he moves up to bantamweight or super bantamwieght and faces the big names in those divisions. mark my words….
Darchinyan made him and will brake him if they ever meet again.

  • ouch says:

Its time for donaire to move up he’s too big for his current division

  • g says:

    @ Garry

You base that on what exactly? His ability to beat Hernan Marquez? Hernan Marquez is not one of the best fighters. In fact, he was coming off a loss Richie Mepranum. Nonito Donaire is all hype. He does not belong in the pound for pound rankings.

    @ deadscared

The reason why big name opponents do not want to fight him is because he has not fought anyone who is actually any good since his win over Vic Darchinyan.

  • GARRY says:

donaire is the man..i don’t think if there’s anyone in his division who could match his ability..

  • deadscared says:

one of the reasons donaire doesn’t get to face big name opponents is because they don’t want to face him. that’s why his moving up to bantamweight next time hoping to face real worthy opponents.

hey! you elite fighters in the bantamweight division be ready for “the filipino flash”! be there darchi!! hey!! you can carry his spit bucket.

  • LOLLER says:

Donaire has a big mouth, he hit a lucky punch to win the title, he’ll be exposed soon enough.

That is if he mans up and challenges a fighter of his own weight class at least.

  • g says:

This is the second time Nonito Donaire fought someone who is not in the same weight class he is in. This is the second time he fought someone who is too small for him.
