Dawson vs. Pascal: Look for an easy win for Chad
By Dan Ambrose: Next month, former two-time light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (29-0, 17 KO’s) will be facing World Boxing Council (WBC) light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (25-1, 16 KO’s) on August 14th at the Bell Centre, in Montreal, Canada. The fight will be shown on HBO. Dawson, 28, isn’t so much into winning another title, but rather is looking to get a good payday.
Pascal won the fight, but hardly looked impressive because of his injury. Less than a week later, Pascal had shoulder surgery to remove a bone chip from his right shoulder. Pascal, 27, has now had eight months to recover from the shoulder surgery and hopefully he’ll b ready to go next month against Dawson. Pascal will be fighting in front of a home crowd in Montreal.
However, there’s little chance that Pascal will win this fight, unless it ends up being a controversial decision along the lines of the one Lucian Bute won against Librado Andrade in Canada. Pascal has got good hand speed, but he hasn’t beaten or faced anyone like Dawson before.
Up until now, the best opponent that Pascal has faced thus far was Carl Froch, who beat Pascal by a 12 round unanimous decision in December 2008. Froch didn’t do anything special to get the win. All he did was pressure Pascal until he wore down after six rounds, and then punished him in the 2nd half of the fight.
Since the Froch loss, Pascal has got his career back in order, beating Diaconu twice, Pablo Daniel Zamora and Silvio Branco. However, none of those fighters are anywhere near the same class as Dawson. Pascal went life and death with Diaconu and is lucky to have both fights, but against Dawson, you can count on Pascal getting easily beaten.
This should be a one-sided fight all the way through it. Pascal is good, but he’s a couple notches below the talent level of Dawson. The only question for this fight is whether the judges in Montreal get the scoring correct. I expect this fight to be one-sided enough where they can’t possibly get the scoring wrong. Look for Dawson to drop Pascal a couple of times en route to winning by a 12 round shutout.

So much for an “easy win”, don’t you think…
Dan Ambrose you do not know alot in boxing. There are no easy victory against Jean Pascal. And I just find funny that every you wrote came out exactly the opposite ! lol
So Wussup Chad, il a arrêté de Japper…..F..K.RS
@STU—- TARD IS AN EXPRESSION USED BY MORONS WHO CANT DO ANY BETTER.BUTE WILL BE DISAPOINTED IN YOU.
tom britt: lol you tard.
@bobby i want him to knock ward out but only after ward cut him up real bad with his best punch.his headbutt.
@ stu look dim wit -the time keeper saw bute ko er so he did ring the bell to give him more time to get up.thats get up as in something a pus like you cant do.get it up.
tom britt: if the time keeper had been “for” bute he would have rung the bell…tard.
haha…you americans are afraid of bute….because he will knock ward out
@stu like all anals you talk out your butt. The ref didnt stop the fight because the ref ,the time keeper ,the crowd were all for thier hero bute.
tombritt/your other names you crazy ****
so…you’re only problem is: the ref didn’t stop the fight when bute was in trouble but instead gave him a chance to answer the count? i doubt many would share your opinion. it seems a bit wacky.
& again…i’m not french…not canadian…not french canadian…but i’m sure you come from the nice little town of retardville. i’m sure it’s nice there…but a little slow huh?
@stu Hey ANAL BOY the refs #1 job is to protect the well-being of the fighters and not to consider how much time is left in the fight. Also a ko is a ko if the boxer is standing or on his back.A man ko ed on his feet is in more danger then one on his back. YOU MUST BE FRENCH CANADIAN.
@stu get you rules and put them in your mothers mouth.the rules are what put oj free.how about that you jack asssss.
stu quit playing with yourself. only winner in canada is puff bute.anywhere else hes loser .
tom britt: you think a title fight should be stopped with the champion on his feet? you also think a title fight (with 5 seconds left) should be stopped before the champion has had a chance to respond to the count?
yeah…i don’t think there are many fans who would agree with you on that…but you can kid yourself if you want.
btw…i’m not french, or canadian or romanian…or even a fan of bute. just a guy who knows the rules of boxing. & you are a whiner cos you say stuff like “and mr. rules man that rule is there a fix in the air if Andrade isnt declared the winner by a ko.” which is whining like a little b*tch about a result you didn’t agree with…that happened years ago & was settled in a rematch. but yeah…whiner doesn’t cover it…you’re a moron.
@MadRINO – ARE YOU A WHINER? IM NOT A WHINER, SO** ANAL stu** MUST MEAN YOU.or more likley hes unconsciously projecting one of his personality traits on to you or me or both of us.Id like to take a vote to see what % of fans think that fight should have been stopped when bute was out on his feet stagering backwards across the ring until he hit the ropes with about 20 seconds left. And what% of fans thought it should have been stopped when bute whent hopeless down in the other cornor with about 5 or 6 seconds left?what do you think? I already know what stu thinks.HES FRENCH.
tom britt/mad rhino:
bute/andrade: bute goes down with 5 seconds left to go (ref has heard the ten second warning). bute gets up at 8 (the count is a legitimate as they get…count it yourself). by the rules of boxing; he can’t be saved by the bell but 3 minutes plus have elapsed so as soon as he is up the round is over…the timekeeper should ring the bell. bute does not have to be in a position to continue or defend himself…cos the fight is over. all bute has to do is get to his feet. but the timekeeper didn’t ring the bell & bute was standing. the ref spotted that the timekeeper made a mistake & when he turns to andrade (whilst bute is on his feet thus meaning the fight is already over) he is not buying time for bute, he is covering for the timekeeper who should have already rung the bell to signal the end of the fight.
so before you whine: learn the rules of boxing. it was bad officiating in a lot of ways…but there was no robbery.
I see your point, and I agree that at least half of the ppl think the same.
Most of the ref out there would have counted Bute when he was first down in the cables, long before he could stand and run backward in the corner where he got hit again. We’ll never know if he would have been knocked down again after that, or if it would have been justified to declare him KO for not being ready to fight after the count.
As for the end of that fight, ‘can not be saved by the bell’ means the ref should continue to count a knock down even if the bell rings. Then again, Bute was standing at 8 (not the count of the ref, but the count from the moment he was touching the canvas); but still: would the ref have considered him standing and ready….
You see, a bad decision or wrong procedure from a ref, could have lead to so many different events if it would have been otherwise. That is why in such case, the only good way to settle is in a rematch.
The fact is, that event was unique in Montreal and still is a subject of discussion. We wish it never happens again, and that the negligences that lead to this unfortunate situation could not be reproduced.
Andrade was trained in Montreal with Grant and has a fan base holding still after his loss by KO in his rematch. He was cheered by the crowd for his last fight victory over local star Eric Lucas, and will fight again in Montreal, for sure. Peace
@at MadRhino– the fight was over 5 seconds before bute got up.but the bell never rang.i dont know what the time keeper was doing except that he wasnt keeping time.if the bell rings the ref can rule bute out or he can walk away let butes handlers pick him up. or the ref can say “we go to the score cards .no one will win the argument.i say 9 out of 10 refs would have stopped it with a few seconds left.but that ref was staling for more time to help out home town bute in that he didnt know the fight was over.bute wins .in my mind he loses and im not alone.i see your point .i am sure you see mine.peace
In this 1st Bute vs Andrade, the ref. was very controversed. Still, Bute was standing at 8 if you count it yourself.
Maybe Bute should have been out, but a rematch was done and he won it clear by spectacular KO. He will never make the same mistake again, as going out of juice to put on a show.
Usually, the judging and ref work is fair in Montreal; Dawson should not be afraid to be robbed fighting Pascal at home. Anyway, nobody really expects Pascal to outbox Dawson; if he wins it’s gonna be a KO.
@STU DUMBA*** You must be french. Anal french. the rules man.The rule for Bute vs Andrade 1 was you cant be saved by the bell.Bute was ko ed before time ran out. At that point theres no need for any more rules except one: and mr. rules man that rule is there a fix in the air if Andrade isnt declared the winner by a ko.
Dawson is fast, like andre Derrell, with a bit more firepower than Adamek who he beat at light heavy, for the Polls only loss.We should not be surprised if Chad dominates this fight with relative ease.
Hmmmmmmmm……I think this is gonna closer than u think
I am wondering if pasquell will even get 6 or 7 good clean shots in.
I believe Pascal is fair opposition to Dawson. Dawson does not have the power of Froch, and Pascal will not have the same respect that kept him from a win in that fight.
Dawson moves well and throws a lot of punches, making him the favorite; but Pascal is not a slow boxer, got heart and power, he may very well disrespect Dawson’s power and walk him through.
SHAMELESS ARTICLE, CHAD ‘GLASS JAW’ DAWSON
IN CAREER WENT DOWN ON THE FLOOR; DAWSON: 3, PASCAL:0
DAWSON GOING DOWN IN WEIGHT WHANT A NO SENSE, 6’3 at 168lbs, HE’S GOING TO HIT FLY’S.
I’LL GO FOR PASCAL THIS TIME, HE WILL BE A GREAT HEAVYWEIGHT FIGHTER IN 4 YEARS.
ON FACEBOOK; PASCALS AID THAT HE’S GOING TO REMATCH FROCH IN THE NEXT YEAR AND HE WANT’S TO BECOME AN HEAVYWEIGHT.
PEACE YA
nothing easy about this fight. pascal though as nails.
Easy win?
You must be drunk…
dont no, but i would assume he wouldnt take a fight with a Dawson if shoulder still bad. We will know in couple weeks; after training. If bad they may call off the fight
i tinking pascal will win im a big fan his shoulder alright now ? if so pascal win
With Froch, that was at Super middleweight and Pascal had to trim off like 17lbs in 7 days for that fight. was a tough fight tho. I thought that fight was a draw but they gave it to Froch.(hometown fighter)
Please, this is not an easy fight. Pascal can trade and can also box. Has faster hands than Chad and can also hit hard. The ring generalship will win it for Chad. He will stick and move; but I wonder about Chad’s conditioning. If he fades like he did with Tarver and Glenn Johnson, he looses coz pascall got more heart and fights harder in the championship rounds.
A lot of people might think I am crazy; but I have this fight a 50-50 and leaning towards Pascall if his shoulder holds up
Pascal is a good boxer, but faded badly against Froch in the later rounds of their super-middle weight bout. If his work rate and stamina has improved at light-heavy, then it should be a competitive match to watch. I lean towards Dawson though.
Dawson wins this one. It will be a good competitive fight, but Chad has more tools than Pascal. Let’s hope the judging is fair though, because I don’t see Chad knocking Pascal out.

DAWSON MUST BE REAL SURE OF HIMSELF TO FIGHT IN MONTREAL.IF YOU SEE THE SAME REF IN THE RING THAT WAS THE REF FOR BUTE VS ANDRADE 1.BET THE HOUSE ON PASCAL.”
go away…watch bute/andrade 1…then realise that there wasn’t a robbery that day…the ref was covering for the timekeeper who had messed up by not ringing the bell as soon as bute got up. learn the rules of boxing dumba**.
DAWSON MUST BE REAL SURE OF HIMSELF TO FIGHT IN MONTREAL.IF YOU SEE THE SAME REF IN THE RING THAT WAS THE REF FOR BUTE VS ANDRADE 1.BET THE HOUSE ON PASCAL.
PASCAL MOVES AROUND THE RING LIKE A YOUNG ALI.IF HE CAN KEEP IT UP LIKE HE DID AGAINST DIACONU HE CAN WIN.I THINK DIACONU IS P4P TOUGHER THEN DAWSON AND THATS NOT SAYING DAWSON ISNT A VERY POLISHED BOXER PUNCHER. THIS COULD BE A VERY GOOD MATCH UP.
I mean Johnson in my last wtitup.
on paper this is the first time since adamek that dawson has faced a live opponent. in reality adamek was dead at the weight & pascal is coming off an injury that most boxers never get over. dawson is very good at fighting people at the right time…& avoiding the real challenges.
what i really remember of chad dawson was he was set up to fight joe calzaghe at super-middleweight…even having a tune up against a brit bum on the undercard of calzaghe-lacy. then calzaghe destroys lacy & dawson decided he didn’t want the fight & moved up to light-heavy weight…even tho his next fight at supermiddleweight would have been a title shot against calzaghe. then when calzaghe says he’s going to retire dawson starts calling him out.
he’s avoided calzaghe, diaconu, erdei & cloud…but fought two 40 year olds TWICE.
dawson probably beats pascal…but mostly because of the injury. if pascal wasn’t coming off an injury; dawson wouldn’t be facing him. if dawson was british then everyone on this site would slate his b*tch a** just for the way he openly ducked diaconu & got an absolute gift against 40 y/o glen johnson (who won that first fight…it wasn’t even close…johnson beat him).
The author is as biased as he is ignorant about boxing! Pascal has an excellent chance of beating Dawson,PERIOD!
Pacal hasn’t looked good in this fight, and in this one..blah blah blah!!!Many alete fighters struggle againt supposidly mediocre fighters as they find it hard to get up for anything other than another elite fighter. Dawson may have beat Tarver in their last fight,he did NOT win the first one,he struggled badly and was even hurt one sereral occasions.
Pascal in a good fight!
