Arum ready to set Pavlik-Chavez Jr on December 4th at 160lbs

By Peter Wells: After all the excitement of the World Cup, I can finally get back to boxing after a couple of dull weekends not including the weekend that’s just passed. But one fighter that has suddenly hit the big time after 43 fights has suddenly hit the news again and maybe heading for a clash against one of the best known 160lbs fighters still fighting. Kelly Pavlik is coming off the second defeat of his career, both to older fighters than himself, one a much bigger fighter, the other much smaller.
He hasn’t fought since and will be back on December 4th, and may well be against 24 year old Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Chavez Jr is coming off a decisive points victory over John Duddy and looks to set his future at Middleweight. Whether Pavlik really should stick at Middle is unknown, but you can’t complain about weight struggles when you’re not moving anywhere.
Chavez would be looking at another big step up in this clash and is surely going to take it at 160, but for Pavlik its suicide. If it comes through at Middleweight then this will with no doubt be a grand victory for Julio, but another terrible defeat for ‘The Ghost’.

Many fighters in the past have appeared finished after some bad defeats only to come back and restablish themselves again! Maby Pavlic is tired of the critizism and does what he should have done after the Bhop fight,dump his coach and get a new,BETTER one!(After the comments from the Pavlic camp on how the loss to Bhop was because it WASN”T Pavlic in there!? LOL) IT WAS YOU KELLY AND YOU LEANRED NOTHING FROM THAT LOSS!

I hope this fight happens but I’m not convinced about it but I’ll assume it is for arguements sake and say I don’t know who to go for becouse Pavlik’s confidence is as low as it can get really and maybe Arum thinks it’s one more defeat and then rebuild him or try to anyway but can Chavez use enough movement to stay away from the bombs becouse I think he gets hit too often to cope with Pavlik on evidence so far or is Chavez going to stick his jab out and box his way through becouse I’d be amazed if he could do it another way!!
A tough one to call which I find hard to accept becouse if you asked me who would win pre BHOP I wouldn’t have hesitated and said Pavlik but now I’m not so sure and if Chavez is put in this fight Arum has given up on Kelly and as usual is in a no lose situation.

This fight will NOT get made. Too big of a risk for JCC Jr. because he isn’t going anywhere as far as Top Rank goes. He’s too big of a Mexico draw. The Duddy fight was a calculated risk. Nothing more. Pavlik is too big of a puncher and is just flat out too big @ 160.

sorry but i dont think he has a chance against pavlik … maybe he should have continued fighting bums until his 60th fight an then step up

This is Arum selling out Pavlik’s career. Disgraceful. Only weeks after Pavlik announced his intention to leave 160 & move up, we have this match-up. Arum is cashing Pavlik’s chips in, & looks to be resigning him to the role of gatekeeper. I hope Pavlik TKOs JCC jr.
Is this Guy on crack? Jr didn’t even put duddy away. And was getting caught by him also. Iwhen pavlik lands he’s gonna hurt Jr bad.
