TKO Boxing prospect watch: Joseph Elegele

LAS VEGAS, NV (June 3, 2010) From time to time TKO Boxing Promotions will spotlight one of its prospects who is worth watching. This month that prospect is junior welterweight Joseph Elegele. After turning professional in November 2009 with a win over Keith Redding of Cincinnati, Ohio, Elegele has reeled off six more wins, five by knockout.

With a record of 7-0-0, the 25 year old Elegele will be fighting in Tampa, Florida on Friday, June 4th against Hensley Strachan at the A La Carte Event Pavilion.

Elegele is coming off a sensational performance at the Mohegan Sun Casino on Saturday, May 22nd, stopping John DeJean with a vicious right hook in the first round.

A native of Melbourne, Florida, Elegele was a terror in the amateurs amassing a record of 69-8. Guided by his longtime trainer Tony Morgan, the southpaw has impressed fight fans all over the country with his devastating power and sensational boxing skills.

“I’m a counter puncher so when I see an opening, I take advantage of it. Knockouts are great but I prepare myself to go the distance and win on points if necessary” said Elegele.

With seven fights in seven months since turning professional, Elegele has stayed busy as a young prospect. “I’ve been moved real well as professional, facing guys with different styles, learning as I go along. It’s also been nice to fight in different places for people who haven’t seen me before.”

“I want to fight once a month. I’m always in the gym training so I stay in great shape.”

TKO Boxing Promotions President Chet Koerner has been very impressed with Elegele’s progress. “We knew that Joe was a terrific amateur but we’re just thrilled at his performance as a professional. He’s got the skills, power and intangibles to become a world champion.”

“Everywhere Joe’s fought the fans have just been in awe of his skills and power. He’s been a longtime training partner of Andre Berto and it truly shows in his approach and in the way he prepares for each bout.”

“In just a short amount of time Joe’s become one of the most talked about prospects in the sport. The accolades from boxing writers who have seen him have been extremely positive.”

The Elegele/Strachan scheduled six rounder is one of the feature bouts at “FIGHT NIGHT” presented by TKO Boxing Promotions and Fight Night Productions at the A La Carte Event Pavilion in Tampa on Friday, June 4th.

Starting at $25, advance tickets for “FIGHT NIGHT” may be obtained through Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com, 813-287-8844). The A La Carte Event Pavilion is located at 4050 Dana Shores Dr. in Tampa. Doors on the night of the event will open at 7pm with the first bell at 8pm.
