Sergio Mora very interested in Mosley bout

By Jim Dower: Former welterweight champion Shane Mosley (46-6, 39 KO’s) is rumored to be possibly fighting former WBC light middleweight champion Sergio Mora (22-1-1, 6 KO’s) next on September 18th. Mora, 29, is very interested as the prospects of fighting the 38-year-old Mosley, saying in an interview by Greg Leon of Boxingtalk.com, It’s [Mosley-Mora bout] definitely a serious talk. I met with Richard Schaefer [the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions] last week and they proposed that fight to me, and I told them I would love to fight Shane Mosley in our hometown. ..The rumors are true; we are working on that fight.”
You can say that the loss to Mayweather was more of a product of Mosley running into a better fighter. However, Mosley looked physically spent after the 2nd round of that fight and could barely muster up a handful of punches in the remaining 10 rounds of the fight. In a word, Mosley looked old. And that could be a problem if he fights a hit and run fighter like Mora. I don’t honestly see what the attraction is for Mosley in this fight. Mora is a fighter that’s hard to hit and who makes his opponents look bad.
This isn’t the type of fighter that Mosley has traditionally looked good against. Mosley does well against fighters that don’t move a lot who stand right there in front of him for 12 rounds, letting him move in and out instead of the other way around. Mayweather exposed how stationary Mosley is in his easy win. I don’t imagine Mosley will have gotten any more mobile by the time he fights Mora, if he does end up fighting him.
Mosley would seem to be much better off taking a fight against WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto, a fighter with fast hands and who has a number of fans that follow all his fights. He moves a little but is more of the traditional type of fighter that Mosley does well against. However, Berto has very fast hands, is young at only 26, and typically throws a lot of punches when he’s not using the punch and grab technique.
Mosley could have as many problems against Berto than he would against Mora. However, at least with Berto, Mosley would be pretty much assured of getting a good payday because Berto is probably a lot more popular than Mora and he also holds a title, whereas Mora is currently trying to work his way back into title contention. Mosley might live to regret fighting Mora, because I see this fight as another loss for Mosley. He’s got the wrong style for Mosley and it just doesn’t seem like the kind of opponent that he’ll do well against. Mosley would have to use his legs a lot to beat a fighter like Mora and at 39, I don’t know that Mosley’s wheels will be up to the task of chasing a fighter like Mora for 12 rounds.

What planet are you from? Mora only fought one good fighter and that was an old Vernon who came back and whipped that ass the second time around.
And you say Mora deserves title fights and the best? On what grounds? Just because he won some terrible reality show 5 years ago!
This fight should not happen.
I agree with “Mexican boxing fan”, Mosley should fight Berto, Cotto, even the Pacman not a fighter made on a television reality show.

This will be one of the lowest buys ever. Mora is a terrible fighter and does not deserve to be anywhere near Mosley. Please give Mosley Berto. Golden Boy you have been warned…WE WILL NOT BUY A MOSLEY MORA BOUT!!! The latin Fake should retire or go fight more bums like himself!
Mosley gets both of them because they are not Mayweather. He will have his confidence back. I would chase after Martinez to at least add to his legacy. Straight up. Mosley is and always will be my all time fav fighter. He has flaws but he brings it. I want him to retire after his next fight and ride off into the subset on top.

L.a fans .
Why not match Mosly to Clotty? I’ll watch it even on PPV. It’s more interesting than Mora.

WATCHED THE BOUT OF MAWEATHER AND SHANE MOSLEY. IT WAS HIGHLY SUSPICIOUS AND NOT A REAL FIGHT. ACCORDING TO SOME PEOPLE IT WAS NOT REAL. IT WAS A PRETENDED FIGHT IN ALL PERSPECTIVE. MAKE A COMPARISON OF THAT FIGHT WITH OTHER PREVIOUS FIGHTS OF MOSLEY. YOU CAN CONCLUDE THE DISPARITY AND THE BIG DIFFERENCE.
Both guys need this fight, to stay busy. I see Mosely mowing down Mora though, probably mid round stoppage.
TOO MANY PEOPLE THINK THAT THE FIGHT BETWEEN FLOYD MAYWEATHER AND SHANE MOSLEY WAS A PRE-ARRANGED MATCH. TOO MANY PEOPLE LOST MONEY IN BETTING INCLUDING MY HALF BROTHER WHO LOST $800 DOLLARS. NEVER TRUST SHANE MOSLEY ANYMORE. IT WAS VERY OBVIOUS HE LET HIMSELF BE DEFEATED. HE IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FIGHTER WHEN HE CLASHED WITH FLOYD MAYWEATHER COMPARE TO HIS PREVIOUS ENCOUNTER WITH DIFFERENT BOXERS. So after he lost to FMJ he is all of a sudden old? He has been around for awhile and has been in some wars but to say he is done after a loss to Mayweather is rediculious>

mosely should retire soon so he can enjoy his money.He already proved he is ,or was a top notch fighter.It is not going to get any better for him as he ages.He can,t get away from punches much anymore.mosely has been around awhile.
FMJ is fast and a great boxer but doesn NOT have great power by any means.Wait untill he fights someone who isn’t scared of taking a punch or who is willing to put themselves on the brink of loosing to win! (Think Paul Williams,Martinez,Manny,ect!)

Even though FMJ won handily he showed he can be hurt and couldn’t even hurt Mosley with his best punches he has in his arsinal,even we he landed them repeadetly! FMJ showed weaknesses that other fighters have now seen!(Much like RJJ a few years ago!) If FMJ decides to take the tough road and fight ALL the best fighters around his weight he will get beat in the near future!
listen people I can’t wait until this fight or the Martinez fight happens cause we’ll all see how good PBF really is… People are selling SSM short because PBF beat his ass but who hasn’t had their ass beat when they got in the ring with PBF… SSM will beat either one of these guys Martinez or Mora they don’t have the speed and reflexes that PBF has and I honestly don’t see Marinez or Mora being able to handle SSMs power…
Berto is not a world class fighter and even at 38-39 years i believe Mosley makes easy work of Berto. I think Mora would present a better fight for Mosley but it will be dangerous in that Mosley can still bang with authority. I also think it is a mistake for Mora to see Mosley as being weak based on the way he was beaten by Mayweather. Mayweather is a better fighter that even his biggest fans want to give him credit for. Mosley is still good enough to beat most fighters at 147 including Pacman.

I think that promoters is matching up fights, saving certain fighters. It’s all bizness, paycheck i guess. I think shane should fight berto also becuz they still have un-finish bizness and it will be a better fight. I think that they are using mora for a future fight or they just have his name lingering around as a match-up opponents as a top fighter but he wouldn’t be a good match-up for mayweather.
