Pacquiao thinks Mayweather is afraid to fight him

By Dave Lahr: For some reason, Manny Pacquiao has got it in his head that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is afraid to fight him. How Pacquiao got the opinion is anyone’s guess, because all Mayweather is asking for from Pacquiao is a better financial deal than 50-50, which is what Pacquiao wants. I fail to see how Mayweather asking for more money translates into him being afraid of Pacquiao. That just seems like some twisted logic to me.
Pacquiao says in an at The Freeman, “Right now, it’s not yet clear. He’s afraid to fight me.” I don’t believe that for a second. Mayweather just wants a better deal based on his better PPV numbers. Anyone would likely do the same exact thing that Mayweather is doing now if they were routinely outselling Pacquiao on PPV. Mayweather is just being a good businessman. He knows how well his fights have been doing and knows how many more PPV buys he’s generating compared to Pacquiao. Why then should Mayweather give Pacquiao and even financial split just because Pacquiao wants him to.

Ok, let us say that Floyd is the Defense Master and had a good counter punching style a.k.a HIT and Run style. But how can he deal with the speed and accuracy of pac punches.. floyd may counter punch 1-2 blow but pac always blow 5-6 punches after he hit his opponents badly. Floyd has the speed, but he only throw 1-2 punches at a time, unlike pacquiao, even you hit him 2-3 he will throw 4-6 more… Better to see it On November 13…, if floyd have the guts to fight the ” fighter of the Year in 3 consecutive years, Fighter of the Decade (recently announce, and floyd sr very jelous) how about “7 DIVISION WORLD CHAMPION IN DIFFERENT WEIGHT CLASS” haha!!… ALTHOUGH pac have lost, but still he work hard,,, no … work harder to reached his ultimate position in boxing world that nobody ever does… 7 is lucky number dont you see!!! I think Pac is really afraid of Floyd by pricing himself out of the fight by demanding unrealistic demands. How can he demand 50% when facts on the ground speak contrary. Here are the facts. Floyd vs Oscar 2 400 000 Floyd vs Hatton 900 000 Floyd vs JMM 1 00 000 PPV and total is 4 320 000 . Pac vs Oscar 1 250 000 Pac vs Hatton 850 000 Pac vs JMM 400 000 and a total of 2 500 000. Between them its a total of 6 820 000 and if u work their percentages Pac deserves 36.6 % and Floyd 64.4 %. This are facts and i think 60/40 is generous and Pac has to be grateful but for the sake of fans and not forgetting Pac,s contribution to boxing and to settle the debate as to who is a better boxer i think 55/45 is reasonable or even 50/50 for the sake of us THE FANS.

The catch is ” NO CUT-OFF ” to bait “50/50″..how about 60/40 winner takes bigger pie and 14 day cut off since these accusations were based on A-SIDE METH and only Mayweather know’s where he get this idea.
The logic behind pacman’s claim that Mayweather is afraid to fight him is so simple! Mayweather knows that Pacquiao will never agree to a lesser than 50-50 split of the purse, therefore, all Mayeather has to do to avoid fighting Pacman is to insist that he gets a higher share. C’mon guys, stop defending Mayweather by trying to twist logic. If he is afraid of Pacquiao, he has all the right to be. After all this is the US of A, where everyone has his rights, such as the right to be afraid, aka freedom from fear.
Pacquiao said Mayweather was afraid of him simply because Floyd have so many excuses instead of signing the contract. Last negotiation failed because of the drug testing issue, now, Manny agreed to 14-day cut off. Floyd made another excuse, this time about the split which he agreed before to be 50-50 and now he wants it 60-40. Then there was an issue saying Floyd will take 1 or 2 years off from boxing. Dave, what do you think is this? If Manny will agree to 60-40 split (which i doubt), I’m sure Floyd will have another excuse, I’ll bet my two balls on that.

Hey I like both guys. I’m just stating facts. Have we even really heard Floyd say he wants more than 50%? I’m pretty sure there’s a “gag order”. We only keep hearing “things” from team Pac most of the time.
Anyway Floyd agreed to 50% in the first round of negotiations. He also agreed to Glove size, ring size, location and $10 million weight penalty all by which Pac demanded.
In return to all these demands Floyd asked for OST.
Lets also not forget how big of an issue money was for Pac when he was in negotiations with Hoya and Hatton (remember?). Pac says he doesn’t fight for the money but his actions have clearly contradicted his statements. I’m not saying that’s wrong, I’m just saying that’s what Mayweather gets bashed for. Mayweather’s always in the wrong, right?
Back to my orgianl point, I’m not favoring either. I’m just stating that Floyd back in Feb 2010 said that “IF” he beats Mosley and sells more PPV (as always) than Pac he won’t accept 50% or any cut offs. So when ALL that became a reality this 14 day cut off and 50% split went out the window months ago.
I’m just stating facts and the reasons WHY I believe Floyd believes he has the “leverage”. Something Pac had equally UNTILL he choose (cherry picked by Arum) to fight Clottey. Pac walked away from the table and deal he once had but is in fact not at the table anymore and hasn’t been for quit some time.
Floyd moved on and beat the #1 WW. Made more money and sold more PPV’s. The entire point is, if either move on again, Mayweather will in fact sell more PPV’s and make more money than Pac. Contrarily to this popular belief of Mayweather needing Pac is just false advertisement and bluntly wrong with facts I have posted in my previous post. The fact of the matter is, Pac needs Mayweather to make BIG money. Not the other way around.
Do I personally want to see the fight? Sure. It’s just I’m the guy that when it’s over will still say Pac’s a GREAT GREAT fighter, but doesn’t have the technical skills to beat Mayweather. If you want to see Mayweather beaten, Pac is not the one to do it. Look towards PWILL or Sergio Martinez. The names that everyone will be screaming about post Pac fight. People will scream loud and clear that Pac was too small and Mayweather only fights these smaller fighters and that he’s ducking PWILL and Sergio Martinez. But that’s just me and my opinion.
I say make it 50-50 with no cut offs….. That makes the fight IMO. Will Pac agree? That is the question…….

This fight is about which boxer can beat the other. Money is not the main issue here. Both fighters dont need the money anymore, theyre multi-millionares.
the 50/50 split means equal recognition and respect for both fighters status as boxers. Giving less to one is demeaning and insulting. Personally, Manny has earned the respect of most boxing fans. That is why he is the P4P champ and fighter of the decade.
Dont let Floyd mislead you to think its all about the money.

why not compare clottey manny vs floyd mosley. and in november you can also compare manny cotto vs floyd (williams or martinez). floyd made more money by himself in the mosley floyd event then the entire clottey manny event did. hait him all you want, the numbers dont lie.

I think Mayweather deserves the bigger cut, however if Manny is willing to take the test up until the day of the fight then Floyd should accept 50/50.

Mayweather vs Dela Hoya bout. The fight broke all PPV records, they made the most money from it too. Dela Hoya wanted a rematch cause he felt he can beat Floyd. After all it was only a “SPLIT DECISION” victory. That tells you how close that fight really was.

You just said PBF wouldn’t fight Pacman for 50 million dollars. That’s pretty much the deal that Pac has in front of him to sign (it might add to less then 50). So I’m confused. All Pac has to do is sign and they fight. So I think you need to rethink your statement.

I’m not sure what delusions of grandeur Manny Pacquiao is suffering from, but there are issues. First of all he is a foreign fighter that does not have the draw of Mayweather as seen clearly in his PPV performances. Hi latest fight had a DISMAL PPV performance and he looked as though he lost the fight.
Floyd Mayweather offered Pacquiao 40% of the gate which is probably 15% above what he should be getting. The offer was more than generous. Pacquiao hasn’t made money even close to those numbers., Perhaps they should compare W2′s and that person gets the bigger cut. Guess who that is? FLOYD MAYWEATHER!
If Arum and Pacquiao asks Floyd in a nice way, and take the test up to the 7 day cutoff, Floyd may find it in his heart to give Pacquiao a 45% cut. But I would bet that that is the best he is going to do.

It seem not to be all about the money the first time when Pac skipped the fight because he didn’t want to take the blood test. Now Pac wants to take the same blood test that he could have took the first time, yet at that time he would have gotten a 50/50 split. This time is different, he fought a fighter looking for a payday who didn’t really do nothing but sit there, and Mayweather fought someone who wanted to destroy him and he doubled the number of PPV sells and Pac wants more money now, no way Wayweather should give in.

He’s been in the business a long time. He knew the rules, he made 40M. He just didn’t want to hold a belt of which he had to defend against a mandatory challenger. First, because he will not earn top money and second, for the risk of losing that zero on his record. It’s the only thing he’s holding on to. And he’ll try holding on to it, at whatever cost.

@Mikey – The 14 day cut off was of 6 months ago and a lot has changed since then, Pac owes his fans an explanation on why he refused the 14 day cut off then. Nobody forced Pac to fight Clottey he chose to and he got what he deserves and dont forget that Mosley vs Oscar failed to reach 1.4 million that shows it has to do with Floyd. Pac and Oscar was doubled by Floyd that shows Floyd knows how to hype and market his fights and he has to be rewarded for that.
Floyd is being really and figures dont lie , against the same opponents he has done better than Pac man and why would they split 50/50. Beside that Pac says he fights for legacy and his fans then why does he want 50? I think it has to be 55/45
