Marcos Maidana signs long term contract with Golden Boy Promotions

By Jason Kim: WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (28-1, 27 KO’s) has reportedly signed a long term contract with Golden Boy Promotions, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. Maidana, 26, who is one of the most popular fighters in the light welterweight division, recently has had management problems in with his old manager. This caused Maidana to miss a fight against World Boxing Organization light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley.
Maidana is expected to fight in Argentina next against a still to be determined opponent, Rafael says. After that, you can expect to see Maidana back on HBO against a top fighter in the light welterweight division. Again, it probably won’t be Khan anytime soon, if ever.
Maidana recently stopped top contender Victor Cayo in an exciting 6th round knockout in March. It was a great fight for fix rounds until Maidana wore Cayo out with his pressure and short power punches. In the 6th round, Maidana took Cayo out with a hard right hand to the body that left Cayo in pain on the canvas. Maidana similarly wore down Golden Boy Promotions top prospect Victor Ortiz last year, surviving three early knockdowns to put Ortiz down twice and stop him.
That fight right there seems to have been a huge contributing factor in Maidana’s popularity. It was one of the most exciting fights of 2009, even though it only last six rounds. In seeing that fight, it’s hard to imagine too many light welterweights being able to stand up to Maidana’s pressure and power for long without folding. It will take a fighter with an excellent chin and a lot of running to avoid getting mowed down by him. Boxing fans want to see Maidana vs. Khan. However, it doesn’t look like Khan’s handlers are too eager to see him in with Maidana.

Well they got to Maidana, GBH are sucking the blood out of boxing, they don’t give a damn about the fans all they care about is money. They try and protect their fighters and ride them until someone better comes along. This is a sad day for boxing people. Maidana is one of the most talented prospects we have out there and now we are going never going to see him against Khan or Ortis.

did maidana sign the contract or did he discover he was already in it? maidanas fantastic because he keeps coming forward and wont take no for an answer. cayo looked quite strong and look what happened to him. khan wont stand a hope in hell of keeping maidana off, he just doesnt have enough power. its all very well being fast but maidana will be putting intense pressure on khan. look at what maidana did to kotelnik, he battered him but kotelnik has a solid chin.

I see Maidana going all the way to the top. In his past few fights, it was easy to see… he really gets it now. And his one loss against Kotelnik was a very questionable decision. I wish him the best, and hopefully other fighters will stop ducking him. I see too many times, good fighters being avoided til they’re past their prime. Not good for boxing.
Can someone explain the whole interim champ with Madaina? Why isn’t he the champ entirely and when is he going to be healed up. He is a throw back fighter. He will fight anyone anytime. He’s not like the rest of the 140s. Scared. Oscar was smart in getting this guy. He can feed off all these suposed contenders and make a run at unifying the division.
maidana does not need showcase fights. He is a lagitimate contender.he has knockout power.Never count a puncher out,unless your name is alan green.
At least now Marcos will know who he’s fighting….
