Is Froch on the verge of being eliminated from the Super Six tournament?
By William Mackay: Former WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KO’s) has been dragging his heels for the past two months ever since he was beaten by Mikkel Kessler by a 12 round unanimous decision on April 24th in his stage 2 Super Six bout. Now, Froch is rejecting venues like their going out of style for his stage 3 Super Six bout against Arthur Abraham and I’m worrying whether the loss did something to Froch’s mind. He doesn’t seem to have the old fearless warrior attitude that he had before his loss to Kessler.
Froch doesn’t seem to want the fight to take place in Europe at all unless it takes place in good old Nottingham, England, where Froch lives. But Froch can’t go on rejecting venues forever. He’s going to have to get off the pot and meet Abraham’s people halfway. Instead of rejecting the European locations, Froch needs to find at least one that he is comfortable with and thinks he can get a fair decision. But as far as the fight taking place in Canada, Nottingham or the United States, I think that’s a pipe dream on Froch’s part. He needs to let that go and come to the table with something a little more realistic.
Froch says he doesn’t care about money for this fight, which is why he’s okay with it taking place in Canada or the U.S., where it would likely do poor ticket sales because neither he nor Abraham likely have a big enough fan base to sell out anything but a really small hall. But Sauerland Events, the promoter for Abraham, do want to make money for this fight and they would like to have the fight take place in a location where they can make the most money.
What I would hate is for Froch to end up leaving the tournament because he can’t come with anything more than Nottingham, Canada or the U.S. to fight. And I’d also hate to see Froch get asked to leave. I don’t know if Showtime would ever do this, but you have to wonder what they would do if Froch steadfastly refuses to fight anywhere but those three locals.
I think Froch doesn’t have anything to worry about in terms of losing by a decision to Abraham. I see Froch getting knocked out by one of Abraham’s vicious shots. The loss, of course, would be Froch’s second in his three first round fights in the Super Six tournament. As such, this would mean that Froch would be basically drummed out of the tournament because he wouldn’t make the semi finals. He would move on while Abraham would move up to the next level.
I don’t know how Froch would react being eliminated from the Super Six tournament. Given how seemingly upset he was with his close 12 round decision loss to Kessler, a knockout defeat, especially a bad one, might really mess up Froch’s mind and cause him to start thinking about retirement. Hopefully, he would have it together a little bit and see the loss as nothing to worry about, but I have my doubts that Froch would be able to just put the defeat behind him and move on.
As it is, you can make a strong argument that Froch should have lost both of his Super Six tournament fights, not just his second fight. Froch looked horrible in his stage 1 bout against Andre Dirrell while fighting at home in Nottingham. Froch won the fight by a 12 round split decision, but a tremendous amount of people believe that Dirrell should have won.

I genuinley beleive that Froch has the chin to stand up to Abraham and has the power to stop him. I aggree! Carl is only thinking of his future this is what he does for a living he was robbed in is last fight and knows he needs to win the next thats why he wants everything right! Im with you Chris Kelly.
Froch has narcissistic personality disorder. To hear him speak, you’d think he won every round of his fight with Andre Dirrell, when it was a closely fought contest. Froch was awarded a gift decision that night, due in no small part to his having the home field advantage. But when the same thing happens to Froch – losing a fight on an opponent’s home turf – he goes into a narcissistic tizzy. Froch is delusional – he genuinely believes that he won every round against Dirrell, just like he genuinely believes that victory was stolen from him in Copenhagen. So what does he do? He petitions the tournament organizers to schedule the fight in Nottingham, believing that it’s the only place he can receive a fair decision.
Froch is in a bad situation, he thought this next fight would be in Nottingham and was duped…if somebody told Ward that his next fight was going to be somewhere other than Oakland how would he react? This problem is all down to the promoters screwing things up, as usual. Either way we don’t want him to drop or get kicked out of the Super Six, whatever the idiots on here are saying, the AA/Froch fight has the ingredients to be the best fight in the entire tournament…both are slow, heavy hittning sluggers and both are coming into this fight on the back of a loss, whats not to like?
It would be a black-eye on the Super Six if another guy dropped out, so I’m sure they’ll work things out and fight. Either Froch wins by decision or gets KO’d…can’t see AA doing enough to win more rounds so he’ll have to land a bomb. If Froch were to drop out I bet he’ll fight Pavlik in the UK.
William Mackay you are dead wrong… the Froch/AA fight would draw a lot of fans in Canada. I have not seen a televised Canadian boxing card lately that has not drawn an arena full of boxing fans. And if it’s publicized that Bute will be there etc., it would definitely be a sellout. As for Froch, yeah he is whining alot, but if I were him I’d be leary of fighting in Germany, at least. Self doubt will creep in after the first loss, but if he just does his job and keeps trying to improve, he has as good of a chance as any to beat AA. And, most importantly, he does not have to worry about losing a decision. Either way, that fight WILL NOT go to the cards.
I genuinley beleive that Froch has the chin to stand up to Abraham and has the power to stop him
You are ill informed about boxing in Montreal right now. Lucian Bute brings in crowds of 20,000. Which fight in the super six made that? If you sell Froch and/or Abraham as potential opponents for Bute, people will buy it. You better believe that if HBO is satisfied by the crowds for Bute’s last two fights, Showtime has taken notice.
Froch vs Abraham will probably not take place in Montreal, but not because of potential ticket sales.
Calzaghe will take his place.LoL.
Get this cry baby out of the tournament already. The Cobra has turned into a Worm.
Froch should stop moaning about this. He losst the Kessler fight clearly. But against Abraham he will get knocked out, and he knows it. He just wont admit it. He should swollow his pride and fight Abraham or bail out (like the coward he is, (he most have gotten it from Dirrell)
calzaghe mayweather w ko
im british but im ashamed hes terrified of fighting abraham
bri, what you on about?? froch has one loss on his record, potentially two if he stays in the competion.. not too sure where you plucked three or four from!!
Not sure what your on about when you say “atleast Khan wants to fight the best,” he’s done nothing of the sort ever since he turned pro.. un-like froch, who done it the hard way. Never ducked no one, cleaned up domestically and in europe, before going on to world honours… Then still willing to travel, with every defense coming against world class oposition..
froch is well within his rights not to want to take a fight in Germany.. it’s impossible to win there unless you get a knockout..
froch is trying everything in his power to get himself kicked off the tournament instead of just saying i quite. he does not want 3 or 4 losses on his record by the end of the tournament. the same as all british fighters. they get nice records and soon as they step in the ring with real compatiton its over. khan will be the next one but at least he wants to fight the best.
Apparently it has effected Frochs mind. He does not seem to have the same confidence he once had.he pulled one out against Jermain Taylor, and a close fight against Derrell. So he lost one close one.,Get on with it,Carl .Boxing is competitive at this level,You are amoungst the best.lets get it on!
I get what your saying in your article and i am agreeing to quite a bit of it.
But your headline makes it sound like hes had a warning or something. Im guessing that Froch ISNT on the verge of being eliminated, not yet anyway.
Its looking at a bit of a stalemate at the moment. The sensible option would be Germany for the money side of things but i suppose Froch is entitled to his say even if i dont agree to it.
yes Pls, Froch GTFO
who cares!…
