Arum says Mayweather-Pacquiao have agreed to terms – News

By Eric Thomas: The management for both Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao has reportedly agreed to terms for a fight that will likely be taking place on November 13th. According to Sportsillustrated.com, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said that the deal has been agreed by Mayweather’s management side. However, Arum is still waiting for Mayweather to accept the terms and decide whether he wants to take the fight with Pacquiao. If Arum is saying that Mayweather’s management has agreed to the terms, it must mean that Mayweather’s wishes have been granted in terms of the contract negotiations.

That still doesn’t mean that there will be a fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao in November. Mayweather may decide he wants something different or it could be that Arum spoke too soon. Whatever the case, Arum has given until July 15th for Mayweather to agree to take the fight. If not, then Arum will look to use his Plan B backup opponent, which will be either Miguel Cotto or Antonio Margarito, both of which fight for Arum.

This is what Arum had to say on the matter: “This really depends, as I see it, on whether Mayweather wants to fight. By mid July, he’s either in or out. We’re not going to wait forever. We’re going to have a fight on November 13 and we would love it to be Mayweather. Nobody is under any obligation to fight this year. He [Mayweather] may need more time. When he is ready, we are prepared to do the fight.”

Previously, there was talk of this being Pacquiao’s last fight of his career. However, Arum isn’t giving up on the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight from being made if it doesn’t take place this time, leaving the window open for a fight next year in May between Pacquiao and Mayweather. This is interesting, and hopefully boxing fans will still want to see it.

If Mayweather and Pacquiao’s two management teams start negotiating early next year, it would be an entire year that they’ve gone back and forth trying to unsuccessfully put together a fight. By this point, there would be a real danger that a lot of the boxing fans might lose interest in the fight. Clearly, a lot of fans will still want to see it take place, but perhaps not nearly as many as when the two first attempted to negotiate a fight earlier this year.

Arum will go ahead and match Pacquiao up with Cotto or Margarito at the Cowboy Stadium, in Arlington. That fight won’t likely do any better than Cotto’s fight with Pacquiao last year. Seeing the same opponent matched up with Pacquiao probably won’t be a point of interest for the casual boxing fans. However, the diehard Cotto and Pacquiao fans will scoop it up regardless of how little of a chance Cotto has in the fight. There’s a chance, probably not a good one, that Pacquiao will fight Margarito next.

However, for that to happen, Margarito will have to get his boxing license back in the United States and right now that’s still an unknown whether he will get it back at this time. Either way, the Cotto-Pacquiao fight would likely bring in better numbers than a Pacquiao-Margarito fight, even though there would be little suspense about who would win the fight. Cotto was badly overmatched last time he fought Pacquiao, and nothing will probably change much in a rematch.

It seems that again mr.arum has thrown us to grope in the dark by making an announcement as clear as mud. All the fans needed is a confirmation forget the july 15th ultimatum date given to the scared mayw, he can make the announcement now to be or not to be done!.A food for thought ‘why is it necessary for a famous fighter to take a 30% cut on his paycheck to make a match, Next year Mr. pacquiao can promote himself of lower the promoters fee in order to make a fight happen.I completely disagree to some fans saying that conventional boxing is a dying sport or has lost its luster, why because a good boxing match commands a good 40 mil for the fighter gross take, where as the ufc, mma or wec only pays their fighters a miniscule prize money, i think they should strike? Now lets discuss the future of this fight as i stated repeatedly the Pacman should abandon talking for this mayw dude who is so full of uncertaities because he is really a scared fighter and this was stated by pacquiao many times in the Philippine newspapers and TV and radio media. abandon this senseless negotiations and face the reality, read bet. the lines of the footnote saying in order not to fight the pacman i’ll make all this excuses so as not to lose face to my diehard fans.

TWO THINGS TO REMEMBER: NO.1. IF THE FIGHT BETWEEN MANNY PACQUIAO VS FLOYD MAYWEATHER GOES THROUGH, THE 50/50 SHARING RATIO HAS BEEN RATIFIED BY BOTH FIGHTERS. NO.2. IF IT FAILS, BY ALL MEANS, IT IS UNDERSTOOD THAT FLOYD MAYWEATHER IS
INTRANSIGENT OF HIS DESIRE TO DOMINATE THE 60/40 SPLIT. SO IT IS THIS POINT OF CONTENTION WHERE WE KEEP OUR GUESS. THERE IS NO OTHER LEEWAY SINCE THE 14 DAYS CUT OFF RANDOM TEST WAS AGREED ACCORDING TO NEWS REPORTS.

Pacquiao would put a clinic on Mayweather if ever this fights happens. Pacquiao reduced past great fighters of their greatness! Reduced to being noticed for loosing to Pacquiao. Case in point DLH, Hatton, Marquez, Barrera, Morales, Cotto, etc. That will be their legacy! Reduced, reduced, reduced! Join them Floyd! That is what Floyd is scared of to join the group that has fallen in the hands of Pacquiao! lol

  • primemover says:

Mayweather is afraid of pacquiao. he keeps on saying, pacman is just an ordinary fighter and will whoop his ass in the ring. but why cant he just sign and fight. he’s afraid…..hehehe

  • Manong Oscar says:

If the two representing parties already have agreed with the terms, with Pacman’s signature on it and only waiting for Floyde’s ok, then, fine and well. However, if Flodye is still procrastinating and can’t make his mind to fight this year or next, then, Pac can fight Margarito the cheater before the year ends and Cotto by mid March next year. Hoepefully, by that time, little boy Floyde shall have made his mind for a fight next summer – say July or August 2011. Pac can’t afford to have ring rust, before fighting Flodye. For now, he has to keep making the money. There is a big PPV audience against Marg the cheater and gentleman Cotto.

  • Truth says:

Let’s quit this May and Pac fan war of words…the real issue here is that just like everything else in life…there is a certain saturation peak of point…which in my oppinion for this fight is year 2010…if this fight does not happen now…I don;t see it ever happening and even if it does it will be pass it’s peak point…Arum needs to practise what he preaches and just shut up and keep this negotiations silent and come out with an official statement once the fight is made…For 30 years I have been such a hardcore boxing fan but this is the year that I have now (after critisizing) beagn to appreciate UFC way more…never thought that I’d be saying that but Boxing is truly dying…because of this cry baby antics by mayweather and all these other incative fighters who just care about money not performing…

Nov 13th it happens great…if not let’s just forget these losers :)

Arum is not in any position to speak for the Mayweather camp! Arum is a student in this classroom; Mayweather is the Leader. Arum could really care less about Pacquiao at this point; he just wants his 27% of Pacqauiao’s purse! Team Pacqauiao has showed their immaturity again during these negotiations leaking information and basically using the media as a spin vehicle, meanwhile; Mayweather has sat quietly and strengthened his position. One camp is scrambling around, making statements, issuing deadlines…u name it while the other camp patiently waits for the right deal. It’s obvious who needs who!

  • bri says:

waiting to hear something from golden boy promotions or mayweather promotions about what is really going on. CANT TRUST ANYTHING THAT COMES OUT OF ARUMS MOUTH.******* hes talking like he sent something to mayweather camp that he knows they wont agree to. sound like only person who has come to terms is arum and manny. and last i checked neather one of them are from floyds camp.

  • bri says:

if all points are agreed apon fight would be announced after world cup is over think thats july 11th. but i could be wrong.

  • MMA CHAMPION FIGHTER says:

All in all, Bob Arum, and the Pacquiao team have been the mass manipulators of the media. Seeing that their point of leverage is minimal in relation to Mayweather, they have tried to spin. confuse, and argue their point of view in the media. Floyd has remained steadfast, strong, and focused on what he says, what he wants and whet he will get!!!

The fact that the Pacquiao team has played this out in the media, clearly demonstrates who holds the position of strength. Silence is stronger than the written word!!!

Mayweather has NO FEAR, he wants his money, and he will take care of business in a SERIOUS manner November 13th, 2010!

you my boy aint it hard to figure out how pacfans wont open their eyes to the facts but yet fiction is all they see? i have yet to read a comment on why arum , roach, and pac wanted mayweather to pay 10 million dollars for every pound over the weight limit unheard of in boxing history. then accuse floyd of thinking he is bigger than boxing just cause he wanted blood testing and since we are in the designer steroid era this seems like a fair request after all how many homeruns are do to the balco clear products and how many victories in boxing are due to steroids remember shane beat oscar on roids so manny fans open your eyes cause an azz whoopin is on the horizon

  • MMA CHAMPION FIGHTER says:

During the initial negotiations, as well as the current negotiations, the fans were going back and forth saying that Floyd or Manny were to blame for the debacle here.

GUYS, ITS ARUM!!! DO NOT BE FOOLED BY ANYTHING ELSE!!!

THE PIMPING OF MANNY PACQUIAO CONTINUES…

  • vdog says:

Arum & Roach are now setting deadlines? LMFAO! Told you all that this fight won’t happen. Greedy Bob has a large stadium to fill in Dallas & it isn’t happening without Pacquiao fighting there. Who do you think is gonna fill it? Chavez Jr??? LMFAO!!!

Nah, they’ve been “negotiating” with the media but in reality Greedy Bob knows he has to fill up a stadium in Texas come November.

  • vdog says:

Anyone else not believing a word that comes from Arum’s mouth?

  • dothemathyoubigdummy! says:

You don’t put deals like this together real quick. It takes time to make sure everything is in line. Look at who is trying to rush. Arum. He’s use to dealing with Manny and his in house fighters. When everything is in house you don’t have to talk to this person or that person. You don’t have to worry about where the fight will be. Who will win who will lose. Arum has sold Manny out just I knew he would. Just to fatten his pockets. You can put a rush on Manny but you have to realize that you can’t rush the other party involved. All the people who saying Floyd is in fear? Just make sure you have that cleanex box close because its going to be a sad day in the Phillippines. You all want your idol to pull off a so called upset but remember this isn’t an in house fighter. Floyd and Oscard are going to sink Arum ship and you can believe it won’t be a rematch.

Former three-division champion Shane Mosley, coming off a lopsided decision loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 2, will return to face former junior middleweight titlist Sergio Mora, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told ESPN.com on Wednesday night.

Schaefer said the scheduled 12-round 154-pound fight will headline a pay-per-view card at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sept. 18 and be the culmination of several days of festivities Golden Boy is planning surrounding the bicentennial of Mexican Independence Day. Mosley can come back by September from a suppossed beating from paper fists but hee still cant decide to fight by November ? what a joke don’t ever say he is better than Ali or any true champion fighters fight!!!!!

@TURTLE SHELL I hope u wouldn’t do what other people thought was necessary 4 u 2 do would you? I Bet you wouldnt.

    —————————————-

Would your statement above be applicable to Pacquiao also? Pacquiao can refuse the 60/40 split, if he deems this to be “what other people thought was necessary 4 u 2 do” and not be blamed for the fight not happening?

  • Turtle Shell says:

    @kevy kev

I am no Arum expert or mind reader (for Arum), but Im just wondering why Mayweather and his followers DIDNT SAIIDDD AAAAAA DAMMMMMMN WWWOORRRDD TTTHHIIIISSS WWWHHHOOOOLLLLEE TTTTIIIIMMEEE SSIIIINNNCCCEEEE TTTHHEEEE NNNEEGGOOTTTTIIIIAAATTIIIOONNNSSSS? If the statements of Arum are aimed to attack Mayweather and his followers, this (for me)seems to be a low blow. Which would spark a reaction at least, so they(Mayweather and his followers) can say something in their defense.

  • Ahmed Al-ikbin says:

  • kevy kev says:

@TURTLE SHELL I hope u wouldn’t do what other people thought was necessary 4 u 2 do would you? I Bet you wouldnt. People must understand that all this negotiation talk must decease and we dont need Bob Arum 2 heat it up again in May If they dont fight on Nov.13,2010, DO U UNDERSTAND NOW WHAT I’M SAYING Mr. Turtle Shell!!!!!!

  • kevy kev says:

@Turtle Shell that’s my oppinion, u call it what u wanna call it, if that’s what mayweather has in mind then that’s him. I’m quite sure u dont go out your way for something that is more important that this doesnt mean u gonna do what other people think you would you? I bet not. I believe 4 a fighter 6 months is cutting it close, I just dont wanna hear about the 50/50 bs no more and testing bs or any other kind of contract drama bs. that’s all i’m saying

    ————————————–

Just curious, is this an attitude of a great fighter? For me a fighter, fights when a challenge arise. It looks like an attitude of a prima donna to me.

  • kevy kev says:

All I got 2 say then is that Mayweather should inspire all of us, He’s a true warrior and a very hard worker is something no one can take from the man and should gain respect after this match becuz I feel this will be mayweather best performance of his career and it’ss gonna lie all in the ring, I believe.

  • WAXED SNAPPERS says:

THE FIGHT IS ALL READY AGREED ON FLOYD 55 MANNY 45 IT IS JUST THE UNDERCARDS THAT ARE NOT YET READY NOV 13 AMERICA, NOV 14 AUSTRALIA TIME MANNY GOES DOWN BY BY MANNY.

  • LuvBoxing says:

I will not believe a word of this until I hear something from Mayweathers camp. They have been the only ones actually keeping their mouths shut like Arum asked everyone to do. Arum is in the same boat as Roach when it comes to making stuff up. Sounds to me like he is trying to win the public opinion polls.

Now if what he says is true and all points actually have been agreed upon, then Mayweather should sign the deal. However, why would Mayweather have to decide if he wants to sign it if all of his terms have been agreed upon. It just doesn’t make sense. There is no way the Mayweather camp went through all of the negotiations if they were not sure he would fight.

  • mo says:

yeah baby. manny gonna whip floyds ass. 3 rounds at thje most.

  • kevy kev says:

Look I may talk sh** but I cant put pass no one and if floyd did then he would’ve been undefeated, if manny didnt have a chance 2 win he would’ve been in the ring at all regardless. what i’m saying is that 2 say a fighter really really doesnt have a chance is really pushing it, first you have 2 have a mental state knowing you plan instead of thinking oh i got this in the bag becuz like roger said “the only thing can win fights is SKILLS or LUCK and manny has a luck

  • mo says:

why is floyd in truble. hes having fits?

  • ali says:

    floyd is in trouble.

  • mo says:

    Sign teh damn contract MAYWIMPER!!!!!

  • grecko says:

The sooner this fight happens the better before age catch up to these guys. This mega fight with mega money on the table could be just the start of several rematches and we want to see them all happen while they are still at their prime.

Enough said. Lets get on with the fight.

    good nite.

  • kevy kev says:

I believe 4 a fighter 6 months is cutting it close, I just dont wanna hear about the 50/50 bs no more and testing bs or any other kind of contract drama bs. that’s all i’m saying

  • Yeah Baby.. says:

Do people seriously think manny will win??? Honestly? People like manny cos they hate Floyd. Pick with ur head, not heart. This will he the biggest mismatch in superfight history.. Floyd easy!!!!

  • kevy kev says:

They may have different plans becuz if floyd said he’s going 2 sit back 4 a while then he could’ve changed his mind who knows. I just dont want the fight not happening becuz of something stupid, if it’s enough time for floyd then lets get this on!!!!!!!

  • JAZZ Do It says:

So both camps have come to an agreement so it is up to Floyd to put his mouth on paper.

Won’t believe it until Floyd sign it since he might come up with another excuse.

Ah yes, He is still mastering his PEDS (Pain Endurance Defensive Skills) so he needs a year off to perfect it.

  • grecko says:

Kevy kev. Either side has to propose a date. Nov 13 is what they propose because Pacs time is limited being a congresman.
Its up to Floyd to take that. Agree or not Pac has to fight with Floyd or someone to make some money in his limited time frame. I dont see anything suspicious in the proposed date.

  • kevy kev says:

@Bri that’s what i’m saying, Arum is use 2 controlling everthing, he thinks he can tell each fighter when they shall fight and that shows you that Bob is in the way of his fighters ALL THE WAY. He controls everything. I never heard manny say he has 2 be in the ring on Nov.13 only bob said that.

  • grecko says:

So far Goldenboy has no statement. Silence could mean they concur with Arum.

  • kevy kev says:

@greko It’s no excuse Arum doesnt say okay floyd you fight on nov.13 2010 that’s not his position. the negotiation is what decides everything. he knows what dates 2 set is the date that they both agree 2

  • BRI says:

CAN NOT BELIEVE ANYTHIN THAT COMES OUT OF ARUMS MOUTH. untill floyds people come out and say this is true, cant believe it. and if supposedly they are ok with terms then it would be a done deal, they only send floyd contract to x thats it wont sent him somethin he wont like. sounds like arum sent a altimatum that he knows floyd wont take. lets wait and see.

  • kevy kev says:

The main thing is having a none cut-off time on the contract is what’ really important and what 2 look out 4, that’s the problem

  • BRI says:

@grecko***** maybe if manny took his time like floyd does he would be makin money like floyd does and maybe would not have made stupid decisions like havin contracts set with top rank and delahoya on the same day now arum takes 27% of his purse and delahoya recieves 13%. better to dot your eyes and cross your tees. instead of makin compulsive quick decisions. if you do stupid mistakes like clottey happens.

  • grecko says:

Kevy kev. I dont think Arum would play games and waste his time back and forth including trips to Pacs home country.
As part of his legacy before he retires from boxing business I think he wants the biggest fight in history to happen under his belt.

  • grecko says:

@kevy kev. What other plans could Floyd have that are bigger than Pac-May fight.

a six month gap I think is optimal for Floyd. The guys is a very fit athlete. On the other hand a nine month idle for Pac may be a disadvantage for Pac. I cant recall him being idle for that long and could lose some touch.

Again. no excuses will be acceptable to fans this time.

  • blame Haymon & Arum!!! says:

As ive posted on other articles……Its very suspicious, that Pacquiao’s camp is the only side talking in the media….why should I believe arum, that mayweather’s management team has agreed to terms, why couldn’t ellerbe or haymon, come out and say something publicly………****something’s not right here****

  • grecko says:

Arum is a seasoned negotiator and one of the best if not the best in the business. The best negotiators always aim for a win-win situation on both sides.

The problem at hand is Arum is dealing with Floyd who always negotiates in a win-lose scenario.

  • kevy kev says:

@greko Pac and Clottey and floyd is 2 different people. like i said, if arum has a contract made 4 Nov.13 only then it’s a problem becuz i think that floyd had other plans and floyd only had been fighting once a years 4 a while now

  • BLACK MOUTH says:

sign the contract and dont be a coward floyd! for the fans all over the world and for boxing..

  • grecko says:

@kevykev. 6 months is plenty of time. remember Pac fought Clottey only three months after Cotto. No excuses.

  • grecko says:

Funny how Manny makes decisions within hours. Mayweather on the other hand makes decisions within days or weeks.
Someone teach Floyd some time management.

  • kevy kev says:

I see arum is a slick old bast***. I’ve just notice that arum booked the fight so close 2 eachother, from the time mayweather had fought(may1) to Nov.13 is 6 months apart, who would wanna go into a fight right away after making about 100 million? that’s real tricky and manny fight with whosever will put them up on ppv. If it’s a open dated contract then the fight wont have a specific date like Nov.13, 2010. Arum is a snake if the contract has a set date becuz we’ll be argueing all over again who get the larger share bs, arum always has tricks up his sleeve and it’s getting ridiculous thinking he’s foolin somebody and we’re seeing exactly what going on.

  • mo says:

@jj. Yep. His name is MayWIMPER!!!!

  • BRI says:

cant trust anythin arum sais. have they come to an understadin or has arum sent floyd an altimatum a take it or leave it deal as last time. why would he add the if floyd want to box then all is set. i say wait and see what is really in that contract b4 sayin anythin. arum is a sly fox. can beleive anythin that comes out of his mouth.

  • jj says:

what? is there such a thing as a WIMPY boxer?

  • cc says:

dont get too excited guys floyd hasnt sign yet anything can happen

  • kevin says:

Itll take mayweather like 10 days to sign the contract just like the mosley fight and every1 will call him scared he’ll sign it and then beat the f*** outta pacman and shut everyone up…

  • JesusJones says:

    Can you smell the roses?

  • Mulder says:

Sigh the damn contract you wimp.
