Khan declines help from Ricky Hatton
By William Mackay: Earlier today, Ricky Hatton, in an interview at Sky Sports, offered to promote WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan, saying “I am certain with my help he can become the big star that his talent deserves.” The 23-year-old Khan was quick to respond to Hatton, saying in an article at the Dailystar.co.uk, “Ricky is a good friend, but I already have Golden Boy Promotions behind me and my own company Khan Promotions. If I needed some help, I would phone him for advice, but things are going well for me right now.” Indeed, Khan is working with Golden Boy Promotions now in an effort to try and become a huge mega star in the United States like his hero Manny Pacquiao.
Beyond that, Khan will need to face a huge star like Floyd Mayweather Jr. to become a big mega star. Pacquiao won’t likely ever fight Khan because he sees him as a friend and not someone that he would like to fight. Khan, if he does get a fight against Mayweather, would have very little chance of beating him unless the fight takes place many years in the future when Mayweather is in his 40s. Right now, Mayweather would likely embarrass Khan and instead of Khan becoming a huge mega star like Mayweather, he would just another one of Floyd’s victims. You don’t become a huge mega star by getting trounced by Mayweather, unfortunately. It just doesn’t work like that.
A good start for Khan in becoming somewhat popular in the U.S. would be for him to step up and fight Maidana instead of a small lightweight. There is talk of Khan possibly fighting WBO lightweight interim champion Michael Katsidis next instead of Maidana or some other top fighter from the light welterweight division. Khan says “I would love to fight Maidana next. He can punch but is slow and can be hit. I would love to shut him up.” I wasn’t aware that Maidana was doing a lot of talking in the media.
At any rate, this is good news that Khan is interested in fighting Maidana. Of course, Khan said he was interested in fighting Maidana before his bout with Malignaggi, but instead of fighting Maidana, Khan said he wasn’t popular enough in the U.S. for him to fight him right now. Khan then opted to fight Malignaggi. Khan needs to show boxing fans that he’s not afraid to fight Maidana, because more than a few think that Khan is running from Maidana and afraid to fight him. Khan could quiet his critics if he stepped up and chose to fight him rather than the lightweight Katsidis.
Khan wants to fight on July 31st, so he’s going to have to make a decision pretty soon about who he will be fighting next. Maidana would be the best opponent if Khan wants to win respect among the hardcore fans, but his promoters want him to fight the better known Katsidis, even though he’s a lot smaller than Khan and fights at a lower weight class.

Hatton isnt crazy.. He would have to go through hell to make the weight just so he could be knocked out in a few rounds by King Khan.
There only one way that Hatton can help Khan and thats by getting into the gym, getting down to 140 and knocking Khan out.
How will that help Khan you ask? well, it will stop can being so delusional. Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind lol
…and an article purporting to be about Khan and Ricky Hatton turns into a senseless attack on the potential of a young boxer. Again. William McKay and Scott Gilfoid are idiots, and plainly shouldn’t be allowed to “contribute” to a boxing website. I’m getting sick of my own voice on this subject, but it seems there is no risk of such introspection on the part of Scott or William. The articles just keep piling up, every one of them with the same message – “We don’t like Amir Kahn”. For the love of God get over yourselves.
The only glimmer of satisfaction comes from the fact that these two halfwits obsess over Amir Khan, spending such time constructing arguments against his abilities… and guess what William? Not only does he never give you a second thought, but he hasn’t even heard of you. Either of you. As far as he’s concerned you don’t even exist. Think about that for a second, take it in.
Best wishes,

@THE ROCK :
YOU HAVE SOME WILD FANTASIES.
WHY ARE ALL THE BOXING SITE KHAN CRAZY ? HE MUST BE PAYING THEM SOMETHING OR SOME INCENTIVE.
PRESCOTT WOULD BE A NO MONEY FIGHT, SO THEY WOULDN’T SET THAT UP, MAIDANA IS A BEAST AND WOULD BACK PEDDLE KHAN’S CAREER SO THATS OUT OF THE QUESTION ATLEAST FOR THE NEXT 18 MONTHS.
THE ONLY MONEY FIGHTS FOR KHAN IS MARQUEZ AND MORALES AS SUGGESTED BELOW.
Super King Khan should Grain Morales or Marquez as a tune up for the hopeless Maidana. Outlets in Gammon would suggest otherwise. All in all who would use petrol money for beer? Well Maidana fits that bill, overapted and turps
Amir will fight Maidina, then the winner between Bradley vs Alexander. It would be better if he fought Maidina, Alexander and then Bradley…in that order. Bradley would be the most impressive fight and victory if Amir beats him. It will propel Amir way up the ladder and be the lineal champ for the light welterweight division. The man who beat the man. Amir is not doing the negotiations, Schaefer is the one who blowing all the smoke and getting everyone talking about Amir. Don’t blame Amir what his promoter is saying, The Rock is sure this is just a way for Amir to get some publicity and grooming him into a superstar.
Khan should quit talking about Maidana. That fight isn’t happening. Maidana will have to fight Bradley when he comes back. Khan should fight Alexander but he’s afraid of him. That’s why he’s calling out Maidana. Alexander doesn’t have an opponent right now either.
hatton would still knock any of you idiots out so show some respect
HBO will use Khan the way they do every fighter. Build him up then tear him down. Oh well.
Why is everyone dead set on Khan fighting Maidana? Like that’s the only fight he should take next. I’m sure HBO will set Khan up with Prescott…..
@ nothavingnoneofit (AKA William Mackay). The job of a journalist (even failed ones) is indeed to stimulate some kind of debate, but when the only way of doing this, is by provoking a reaction through biased outlandish claims, then expect to be criticised.
Fladz was just telling it like it is, many people who post their opinions on this web-site, don’t need to be informed of your bias, they just want to hear what’s new in the World of boxing!
Why are you so obsessed with Khan? Do you get a boner when you write about him or something?
Maidana’s injured it’s pointless talking about him fighting Khan, that fight will probably happen in the Autumn.
A fight against Breidis Prescott would make more sense, there’s more chance of negotiations running smoothly and there’s the revenge aspect to the bout. This would also give Khan a chance to silence some of his detractors and make for a good promotion!
Watch the early rounds of Khan-Mallignaggi again, you will see a look of concerned concentration on Khans face after Pauli’s early successes. Khan is allways just one punch away from total panic in the ring, if you watch his early fights again, you will see that this same lack of belief in his own ability to withstand getting tagged, has been with him his whole career right upto the Kotelnik fight, where Khan seemed to be too scared to open up, instead opting to bore his opponent(& the audience) into submission. I hope he prove’s me wrong, but I do not believe that he believes in himself enough to take on a puncher and win, therefore, I’d back either Katsidis or Maidana to beat him.
Amir Khan is a good(not great) boxer, but he is no warrior and will be exposed again sooner rather than later.
@fladz,
The job of a writer is to encourage debate, if doing down a boxer encourages the fans to comment on an article, then job done. I like the articles on this site for the bias shown and the comments in response are all the more entertaining for it.
I very much doubt they care if Khan reads their articles, he’s not their target audience, you are.
Get over YOURself.
Khan will be taken seriously when he avenges the Prescott Bredis defeat. Until then people will always question his chin and duraibilyt.
Last weekend he was running out of steam, with Malinaggi coming on top, makes the stoppage all the more odd?? (For odd, read intentional – whatever happened in the fight Khan was going to be the “winner”).
As far as knocking Khan is concerned, people need to stop it – let him develope and find his way.
kon could fight kendall holt nxt he would gain a little respect should he win, its a decent fight in uk it would be good for july?
I realy like to see Pizza face of the Big mouth.
Muzza that was the best comment I’ve ever read on this site..made me really think
His 23 years old!! give him a break!! if amir had a fight record of 35 fights and had still hadnt fought anyone at top level I would think you have a point with this article.
give him a break and time will tell what he is about. maidana, bradley have proven nothing either so not wusre why everyone bigs them up so much. Yes they have a high percentage of knockouts, but then so does khan.
If legends like Bernard Hopkins can give Khan credit, for travelling away from home, I dont think the writer of this article or anyone else can make random comments.
kash so flash….
it was amir who brought maidana up, he called him out. so why did he call him out when he’s injured? if you ask me his promoter probably decided the only way to get out of khan calling out maidana was to set the next fight date for july. so there you have it.
Wow is Khan turning into Mayweather fighting guys below his weight class and waiting till they grow old to fight them? Well not quite yet. Time will tell how good khan is but it seems we now have a Sport in Boxing which is all about hand picking and reducing risk at all cost to reap financial gain while still appearing to put on a show. The better you cherrypick the more money you get down the line as the Boxing casual buy into the hype just as a 9 year old schoolboy thinks Wrestling and all the hype is actually real. The real Boxing fan sits and looks at all these worthless Belts and titles and dreams of a time where we see one tittle one champion per weight and not a cherrypicker in sight. In the mean time take your Brain out and be force fed the Razzmatazz.
Khan says he also has his own company “Kham promotions” helping him as well!!!! HaHaHaHa how funny is it when a boxer adds the word “Promotions” after his surname, and thus he is now a boxing promoter.
I’ve opened up Chop Stick from Chicago Promotions, so maybe I can promote Khan as well – hahahahaha
willie can you stop trying to put amir khan down all the time pls.give him a chance within 3 years he will be the pound for pound king mark my words busta.
WILL EVERY ONE SHUT UP ABOUT MAIDANA, HE IS BLOODY INJURED AND CAN NOT FIGHT IN JULY WHICH KHAN WANTS TO DO,HE CAN FIGHT HIM AFTER ONCE HES AVAILABLE, NO ONE EVER SPOKE ABOUT MAIDANA UNTILL SUDDENLY HE BEAT VICTOR ORTIZ WHO ISNT EVEN A BIG NAME YET. HALF OF THESE WRITERS KEEP BRINGING UP MAIDANA OVER AND OVER AGAIN, IF U NEW MUCH ABOUT BOXING THEN U WOULD KNOW HES INJURED
……….. AND YES, KHAN WILL VACATE IF HE HAS TO………
KHAN IS NOT AFRAID OF MAIDANA, THEY ARE BOTH PROMOTED BY THE SAME COMPANY AND WOULD NEVER LET THEM FIGHT NEXT. THEY WILL BOTH MAKE A LOT OF MONEY IF THEY FIGHT IN 18-24 MONTHS TIME AND THAT IS WHEN THE FIGHT WILL HAPPEN.
THIS SITE RUNS FOR TOO MANY ARTICLES ON KHAN BE IT POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE COMPARED TO BRADLEY, DEVON, MAIDANA. NO WONDER KHAN IS GETTING ‘KNOWN’ MUCH FASTER THAN THE OTHER FIGHTER.
hatton looks scared of even mentioning fighting kon, and why? kon is with roach who hatton cant stand and trains with manny the guy who reitired ricky rickys brain needs scanning pac really did hit the cun* that hard
common ricky mind your own business, you havent recovered yet from your lose to pacquiao
khan is a coward if he does not fight Maidana. Come on man! Call out Maidana! Fight him!
The Miadana fight will not happen in July too soon – more likely in the fall on HBO.
The July date would suit a rematch with Presscott
Re: NJ. Maidana is sidelined with a back injury so I doubt he’ll be ready in time to fight Khan in July. I do agree though, that Khan should be looking at fighting Light welterweights.
The only thing, is that Katsidis’ stock has risen massively in the UK after he demolished Kevin Mitchell. A Khan v Katsidis fight would not be hard to sell to the public and it would be a good test for Khan.
As Khans fightin in the UK next he should Maidana not Katsidas at the Reebok staidum. He’ll draw loads of fans in. Dont get me wrong Katsidas is a dangerous fighter, but Khan needs to fight light welters not lightweights.. if not Maidana, then there’s Urango, Holt, Peterson etc..
Good for khan..with golden boy by his side he will become a HUGE star!..
