Does Freddie Roach really believe Mayweather’s legs are gone or is he trying to get in his head?

By Dave Lahr: Recently, trainer Freddie Roach has been repeating over and over again that Floyd Mayweather’s legs are gone, and that he’s become more flat footed compared to the way he used to fight. I looked at the Shane Mosley fight, which is where Roach formed his opinion about Mayweather’s lack of movement, and I think Mayweather looked as good as he always does. I noticed he wasn’t moving quite as much, but that was only because Mosley was moving so slowly. Mayweather had a perfect opponent in front of him and without any real pressure from Mosley, Mayweather didn’t have to move to stay away from him.
What Roach needs to be doing is trying to teach Pacquiao how to block some shots with his gloves, because he did a rotten job of picking off punches in his last fight with Joshua Clottey. I haven’t see Pacquiao take so many clean shots since he fought Juan Manuel Marquez. It was really ugly. When you look at what Clottey was able to do with Pacquiao, and then think of what Mayweather do, it’s downright scary. Roach needs to get on his J-O-B and try to teach Pacquiao how to defend himself better because he’s going to have some serious issues if he gets in the ring with Mayweather. I thought Clottey was going to lift Pacquiao’s head off his body with some of those uppercuts he was nailing Pacquiao with.
I can see Mayweather’s gloves tattooed to Pacquiao’s face all night long and Roach coming unglued in the corner between rounds, jabbering six bits to a dozen with all kinds of advice – way more than Pacquiao can take in at one time. Roach should work on his fighter’s defense and also try to make some headway with the blood testing issue. There won’t be a fight unless they come to some kind of agreement with Mayweather this time. Mayweather is looking really right now and I think he’s in a position to call the shots for whatever he wants.

I agree with hitking60 alot. One thing is to dislike someone, another thing is to discredit what they have acheived. Floyd Mayweather Jr is a fantastic boxer who has beaten some of the top guys in his career. Genero Hernandez, Angel Manfredy, Jesus Chavez, Jose Luis Castillo (twice), DeMarcus Corley, Shamba Mitchell, Arturo Gatti, Zab Judah, Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Juan Manuel Marquez, Shane Mosley. I have even left names out like Diego Corrales. One thing yo can’t do is deny Floyd’s skills whether you hate him or love him. Freddie Roach talks alot and he has had some good points at times but to say Floyd has lost his legs is not warranted because someone fights toe to toe.Floyd done that with Gatti, Corley, Hatton, Burton, and Judah. Somebody being versatile doesn’t mean they have lost their legs. Infact Freddie should be more aware because if Floyd can stand toe to toe with a banger like Shane Mosley and drown him, what about Manny? Freddie is a good trainer but everything people accuse Floyd of is exactly the same thing Manny is doing. He has fought De La Hoya and Hatton, both previously beaten by Floyd. Floyd is critised for fighting De La Hoya even though he moved up to 154 to fight him. Manny fights him after Floyd and is praised to the sky. The he fights Hatton who was also KO’d by Floy 2 years previous. Manny wins and is praised to the sky but Floyd was critised for fighting Hatton although Hatton was undeated and previousley held a belt at 147. For those who don’t know he beat Juan Urango for the belt 1 year earlier but vacated to go back to 140. People just dislike Floyd as a person and use that dislike to try and bury his achievements. Love him or hate him, he is the best fighter in the world and mark my words if him and Manny fight I see Floyd giving Manny such a beting that they may stop the fight in the late rounds. Maybe for the first 3 or 4 rounds it will be competitive but when Floyd starts to figure Manny out, we are going to see so many right hand leads knocking Manny’s head back that eventually he will be dragged into deep waters and drowned causing either his corner to wave the white flag or the referee stopping the contest.
Freddie Roach is and has been accurate on predicting Manny Pacquiao’s fights. He said Pacquiao is going to KO Mayweather because Mayweather has lost some of his foot work and speed. I believe Roach and I’m myself is also good in analizing the outcome of all the fights of Manny Pacquiao. MY prediction is that Pacquiao is going to KO Mayweather on the second or third round. Manny is too fast and too strong for Mayweather. The only problem is Mayweather, he knows that Pacquiao is going to destroy him inside the ring. Mayweather is a wise guy, he would not let Pacquiao destroy him, so Mayweather will never fight Manny Pacquiao, ever, not even for $40 million Dollars. He would like to be remembered as the greatest unbeaten fighter of all time but… that will not happen, instead he will be remembered as the greatest coward boxer of all time.

Fellas the fight will happen, given that u have all these athletes names coming up w/ steriod use what is the big problem with the request for testing. If someone asked you to give blood for $25 what would you do? I want to make a few points before I go:
1. Watch Pacmans fights or highlights against cotto, then watch clottey fight. Those are two different fighters each fight (meaning Pacman). I hate to come off as being bias but Pacman looks different in both fights physically.
2. Can anyone recall 24/7 w/ PacMan when Freddie Roach wanted to leave the philipines because of a typhoon and manny didn’t want to leave.
3. PacMan has the nerve to say he will feel weak if he gets a tea spoon of blood.
4. I will gurantee you that if this fight is ever made PacMan although he trains in the US for every other fight will remain in the Philipines until the week of the fight.
5. Why is PacMan determined to have a cut-off date really? We all know that the element of surprise is a MFR! 9 out of 10 times they will not test these guys the week of the fight however PacMan essentially wants an gurantee that there will be a cut-off date.
Realistically, PacMan will see that floyd can take a punch then deliver a punch. Not to be racial but he hasn’t beat a true African American boxer because his handlers know that he will get his socks boxed off. If you good PacMan former promoter he states that he purposely kept PacMan away from guys who would box because they would expose PacMan. I am not sure if PacMan could really beat any of the guys at 140- Bradley, Alexander, etc. For the simple fact if u can make PacMan miss you will be able to punish him, i know those will argue how can he miss when he is throwing 100 punches per round but trust once you miss your target a few times and get hit it slows your body down.
Lastly, FLOYD MONEY MAYWEATHER by TKO, Freddie Roach stops the fight in 8 rounds due to punishment PMan is taking. I see this fight as hyped up as it will be, being another FLOYD VS GATTI!

I don’t care who’s who and what’s what, I just want to see this fight happen. Maybe if Floyd says take the drug test and I’ll do a 50-50 split or do a 60/40 split and the 14-day test – that way, both fighters get a fair deal don’t you think? Again, WE ARE TRYING TO GET THIS FIGHT TO HAPPEN so why not work something out?
I think its safe to say that Mayweather and Pacquaio will probably be the best fighter each has ever faced.
BTW, why does everyone try and disregard the JMM fight for Money. I’m sorry, the #2 P4P fighter in the world does not become a total bum just because he jumps divisions. Lightweights have fought and beaten welterweights all through the history of boxing without the aid of catchweights. Who to say JMM wouldn’t have beaten any other welterweight in the world the night he fought Money. We just don’t know. Disregarding JMM is just an example of making an excuse for everyone Money beats. Hell, he was scared of Mosley until he dusted his ass. Then, Mosley was old, overtrained, took a dive, and all that other bullsh*t. If you don’t like Mayweather, fine. But anyone who tries to discredit his resume makes themselves look very biased and impossible to take seriously.
For all of those who keep saying that one doesn’t have a chance over the other, answer me these:
Who has floyd fought that is anywhere near Pacquiao’s league? There is no one. Marquez doesn’t qualify. Marquez is great at 130-135, not at 142. Plus, coming in overweight doesn’t really make things fair, even though mayweather would’ve still won if he came in at 144. Marquez couldn’t reach the limit. Judah is nowhere near his league. Judah will never be known as a p4p king. Judah was beaten by Cotto and Clottey. Castillo and Corrales were good against each other, not really against everyone else. Castillo, in my opinion, was the one who came closest to beating floyd but never amounted to much afterwards. Oscar was a done deal. (if pacquiao’s win over de la hoya is discredited because of his age and poor training, then the win over mosley doesn’t say much either) Mosley would have been it, but it was way too late. Mosley is too old and was already defeated by Cotto. (if people say that cotto was a done deal after margarito, then it is safe to say that mosley was a done deal after cotto)
Who has Pacquiao fought that is in the same league as Mayweather? Oscar was done. Hatton was done. Cotto and Clottey would have been it but nope. They were the biggest guys Pacquiao has fought. Marquez fought pacquiao at 130, his best weight, but still not the same level as mayweather. Morales and Barrera were great, but not really comparable to mayweather.
The fact is is that these two men have been able to dispose of their opponents. What sets them apart is the style in which it was done. Mayweather goes for the points, while pacquiao goes for the knockouts. After the 2nd Marquez fight, Clottey was the next decision, I believe. With Floyd, the only one he’s knocked out in his last few fights was Hatton. Another thing that sets them apart is the weight class. Floyd moved up once to fight Oscar and got a decision. Manny has moved up quite a few times and has gotten both knockouts and decisions. Please correct if this is wrong. I’m not sure how many times floyd has fought over 147.
Each guy has a chance because they both have never faced anyone like the other. I don’t care what people say. There is no one like pacquiao and there is no one like mayweather. who cares now about all their previous fights. these fights won’t help because no one fights like they do. The reason why pacquiao and mayweather are at the top is because their styles are so different from all others. they are the complete opposites of each other, the elite on opposite sides of the field. what pacquiao is not, mayweather is. what mayweather is not, pacquiao is. that’s why their matchup will be the most interesting of all time. mayweather’s offense isn’t that of pacquiao’s. i’m sorry to say. mayweather doesn’t dispose of his opponents like pacquiao does, even though he gets the job done. if you disagree, then remember his fight against marquez. he should’ve disposed of him in a different manner. pacquiao’s defense isn’t that of mayweather’s. mayweather dodges punches and moves in weird ways to prevent himself from getting hit. pacquiao dodges punches but also likes to get hit. his strength is his defense, which also gets the job done.
Roach says a lot of things but no matter what he says, he seems to be more right than wrong. who knows which one it is this time. freddie played mind games against cotto and clottey. freddie played the games against cotto’s trainer but was still correct about the outcome of the fight. he played with clottey’s head, making clottey more defensive than usual. maybe he’s playing with mayweather’s head. the only thing that would make it seem true is that mosley landed some serious shots on floyd, even though mosley isn’t as fast as he used to be. if he can get hit by one of the fastest 38 year-olds, maybe he can get hit by one of the fastest 31 year-olds. i’m not sure how old pacman is.
well, if freddie is right, then mayweather’s in trouble. i seriously doubt that pacquiao will stop throwing punches like mosley did. even when he gets tagged, he doesn’t stop. if he doesn’t stop moving, will that force mayweather to continue throwing punches? is mayweather used to throwing bunches of punches? maybe throwing more punches will make tire him out. maybe there was something roach saw in mayweather when he was forced to throw punches against mosley. who knows. but so far, roach is like mayweather. it’s hard to bet against him. roach said that khan would destroy malignaggi, which he kind of did. roach also picked mayweather to beat mosley. he said that hatton wouldn’t last 3 rounds. he said oscar was a done deal. he said that cotto would be knocked out or stopped. but the most important thing is that he said that pacquiao needs to fight the perfect fight against mayweather. pacquiao has never had to in his previous fights. well, if you guys believe roach when he says that pacquiao has to fight the perfect fight against mayweather, then it’s hard not to believe the other things that he says, even though it’s about mayweather not moving the way he used to.

Roach knows what he’s doing. He knows that legs aren’t really required to beat Pac. JMM and Morales were never fleet of foot, and gave Pac hell. He also knows that a Mayweather in retreat is much more manageable for Pac than the Mayweather who stood his ground against Mosley, and would look like a middleweight stalking Pac behind his jab and lead right hand. The truth is, Mayweather would be a fool to fight on his backfoot against Pac because Pac’s footspeed is better and he wouldn’t be able to get away consistantly anyway. Mayweather ahs to fight a big man’s fight against Pac. And IMO, he would beat Pac fighting as the bigger man. Roach knows this too. So hell yeah he’s trying to get in Mayweather’s head. By constantly saying Money’s legs are gone, he might be able to bait Money into fighting in what would be a much more magnageable style against Pac. And by doing this, he would be giving Pac a betterchance at being successful.

Mayweather gets hit one time and his legs are gone, shot, worn, and all the others, If his legs were shot, he would’ve of had no balance and no power behind his punches the entire fight. His legs look great even after a couple seconds of being dazed. Pacquiao legs buckle every fight that he is in, even Clottey buckled is legs once. Im a Pac fan. I think Flyd beats Pacman. Pacmans flattening brawlers and basic boxers, hes not picking slick boxers for a reason.
But then i think Floyd is scared and needs Pacman to take those tests so it will affect him mentally like it has done before. Floyd needs his little pre fight advantages before he feels safe enough to fight. Which is a shame cuz he doesnt need to.

Pac fights figthers that have no discipline and hardly any ring IQ… I’ll go further this won’t be an easy fight for either fighter but what I can say is that PBF will use his advantages to the fullest… I encourage you to look at any Pac fight and tell me when have you ever seen him fight a fighter that slows Pac down when he’s on attack?? Anyone who says Mayweather’s legs are shot or that Pacquiao is faster than him did not watch the Mayweather Mosley fight. He took two flush shots from a knockout puncher in Mosley and kept his composure before he began to dominate the fight even before the second round was over. And Floyd moves so fast with his legs upper body and hands that it just boils down to poor strategizing to expect your fighter to be able to beat him by out quicking him. Freddie Roach is just trying to psyche himself and Pacquiao up. He knows that this is the first time in a few years that Pacquiao would be matched against an opponent that he didn’t choose because of a particular vulnerability that the opponent has. It just so happens that this opponent is the best in the sport, Floyd Mayweather Jr. Freddie Roach knows that he and Pacquiao can’t talk their way into winning this fight and all of this “Mayweather has no legs” talk is just desperation being worn on the sleeve of Freddie Roach.
Fans of Fraud Floyd are 100% sure of beating Pacquiao yet their idol is not so 100% sure. And Fraud Floyd says he is the greatest of all boxers and yet he doesn’t want to fight Pacquiao under the same rules as 99% of all fights. Ha ha ha! Isn’t that the greatest conundrum and paradox ever??

Floyd has no trouble with orthodox fighters and orthodox thinkers. He waits until they run out of breath and/or ideas then he steps into the pocket. Floyd has trouble against Pacquiao because of his unorthodox style and thinking and with Pacquiao’s stamina/engine/heart/ and his ability to hit->hurt->finish then stepping into the pocket would be too much of a risk (or, if it happens and he does, an admittance that to take it on points he’s in danger and needs to step it up.) He’s a much bigger man and post-retirement looks solid at 160lbs+(in-ring) but Freddie’s right – the legs and footwork didn’t impress against Mosley.

Roach is playing head games, although I think he is a fairly honest person when it comes to boxing analogy. If you saw something in a fighter, that you believed you could exploit, why would you make him aware of that? Chances are, you are going to keep that information to yourself and the fighter you are training. The way Floyd fought Shane was planned, he obviously stood in front of him because he could, and Roach saw something that’s just not there.

Roach is the best trainer and knows slot about the game but disagree with him on this one. . Floyd had a lot more agression in him against shane, trying to

Floyd was caught in the second round by a hard heating Sugar, and all what the people can talk about is that moment that probably lasted not more than 30 seconds? Manny has had close bouts…too close to call, he has been knocked down, not once, not twice but several times. To all of this, he has taken some loses too. Manny might end up like Roach if we are to consider the kind of punishment he has had to endure. If there is a fresh boxer, it is Floyd, he dishes punishment without taking any himself, and that is what some will call boring.

Cool it brother! We have, time and again told you why Packman is suspect. If anything, it is not just Floyd asking these questions, fellow boxers and comentators alike. There is a ‘prima facie’ case on Manny and this explains why he should take the test. Why hasn’t Floyd been asking for PED testing before? There is always a start point and like I said, there is a fertile ground to suspect Manny. Too bad, Manny has shown he can not hundle issues well, he should seriously think of good advisors, he sould have taken the test and all this would really not been there.It just shows how Manny’s team can not hundle these issues and like that, they are likely to mess-up any meaningful negotiations. Because now Manny is one of the top paid athletes not only in boxing, but in all of sports. Why would he agree to be dictated to and bullied by someone outside the commission to do testing that is not required of him, especially with a clean record and no grounds for suspicion?
If it wasn’t Floyd making the demand, that opponent would be laughed off of the negotiating table. The fact that Manny is compromising at all is proof that he wants to make this fight happen. He’s botched some of his retorts since the indirect accusations came flying at him like cowpies, but that doesn’t make him guilty, only bad at handling Floyd’s mind-games.
Anyhow… few sources are out which now state the purse split is going to be the big point of contention this time around. Let’s hope that’s being used as a decoy to get the testing Mayweather wants. ie. Floyd agrees to 50/50 split, but ONLY IF Manny agrees to a 2 day cut off for testing.

When Roach said that dela Hoya could no longer pull the trigger, it was true. When Roach said that he has discovered the weaknesses of both Hatton and Cotto and will exploit these weaknesses in their fight with Pacman, again, he was telling the truth. I believe that we are now seeing a different Mayweather who couldn’t move as well as he did before. Besides Pacman punces faster than him and can come up with ten or more punches in succession, whil Mayweather has only 2 to 3 punch combinations. Pacman will surely win over Mayweather and you can bet on that if and when they meet.
