Arce cut in sparring, fight against Morel likely off

By Eric Thomas: According to Fightnews.com, Jorge Arce (54-6-1, 41 KO’s) was cut on his right eyebrow during a sparring session earlier today. The cut, a long one, will take several weeks to heal. The problem is Arce has a scheduled fight against World Boxing Organization bantamweight champion Eric Morel on June 26th, and the healing time of the cut would get in the way of Arce’s training for the fight.

Apparently, Arce was even wearing a face shield at the time of the accident and yet he was still cut. As of now, there’s still no word as to whether Arce will cancel his fight with Morel or not. Arce sustained a cut in the same area in his last fight against Cecilio Santos last month on April 24th.

Arce has won two consecutive fights after losing to Simphiwe Nongqayi in a 12 round decision loss in September 2009. Arce was also beaten by Vic Darchinyan in an 11th round stoppage in February 2009.
