Would Audley Harrison have stopped Haye if they fought last night?
By Sean McDaniel: In looking at Audley Harrison’s sensational 12th round knockout victory over Michael Sprott on Friday night, you can’t help wonder whether Harrison would be able to accomplish the same feat against World Boxing Association heavyweight champion David Haye if he had been in the ring with Harrison instead of the lighter hitting Sprott. Granted, Harrison would have had major problems if he had lost the use of his right hand early in a fight with the big punching Haye. That alone might have been enough to doom Harrison’s chances of winning the fight.
Harrison would most probably be able to keep Haye at arm’s length for vast stretches of the fight without having to worry about his power shots. But sooner or a later, Haye would get his confidence up and would go after Harrison with his trade mark haymaker shots. Harrison would be severely tested by Haye if he was able to land with any regularity. This is why Harrison would have to fight all out from the 1st round on throwing massive left hands if he was to have a chance at beating Haye.
I think Harrison would have a decent chance if he fought with a sense that his career could be on the line. Harrison has massive talent and huge power when he stops showing fear and starts fighting with self believe. It’s almost as if he Harrison can’t fight really well unless he’s forgetting himself and just fighting on instinct.
Haye would give Harrison no choice but to fight for his life because Haye would probably be looking to take Harrison out with one big punch from the very start of the fight. It might not be as easy for Haye as it was in beating the 38-year-old, 6’2” John Ruiz last week because Harrison has a much bigger size, longer reach and better power than Ruiz. If Harrison were to catch Haye with the left hand that he took Sprott out with on Friday night, I have no doubts that Haye would end up flat on his back counting stars.
I think Haye’s chin is no better than Sprott’s. Haye has the better power but his chin is rather ordinary to say the least. Harrison would have a puncher’s chance of beating Haye and could end things at any time in a fight with him. I don’t think that Harrison could beat Haye by a decision, because Haye would likely land enough big shots to win most of the rounds. However, Harrison would have that one big equalizer left hand that could finish matters at any time with Haye.
For that reason, I think Haye would be in dangerous waters in a fight against Harrison and would have to tread lightly the entire time instead going after him like Sprott foolishly did. This win over Sprott is going to do a lot of good for Harrison’s confidence and that seems to be the missing ingredient for him. Harrison seems to be still learning as a fighter and finding out how good he can be when he fights aggressively. An aggressive Harrison would be a dangerous fighter for Haye to have to deal with.

i dont rate harrison but o reckon that punch wud o kayod any heavywieght wot a shot
Haye would spark Harrison clean out 10 out of 10 times….
Can you imagine what would happen to Audley if Haye hit him as hard as he hit Ruiz in that 1st round a few weeks ago!!?
Haye would either knock Audley out within 3 or the fight would go the distance with A-Force throwing 2 punches a round.
,honestly have you ever seen someone look so scared whilst throwing punches,,,he has a look of pure terror,,,,,,,he was getting hit with the same big right alllllllll night long,,,,,the same one that dropped him the first time round,,,so the answer is NO,,,,,not last night not ever,,,guys just not got the technical ability,,,speed ,,the power,, heart to trouble haye,,,he loses everytime,,
If you asked the question COULD Harrison of stopped Haye last night the answer has to be yes. Anybody with power can stop anybody.
But you ask WOULD Harrison of ……………
NO.
Some great comments below, Especially gari, marcus and rick. It’s a pity some of the commentors could write the actual articles
Poor old Harrison the Cowardly Lion out of the Wizard of Oz “pud em up, pud em up”. What sticks out for me about him is his poor work rate coupled with his Lack of real Desire. Its as if hes not suited to Boxing at all as if hes a big Jessie pretending to be a Boxer. If he had an one molecule of Testosterone in his body he would be lethal.
Haye vs Harrison will never happen, nobody wants to see that fight and Haye would easily win but there`s really nothing for Haye to win in that match, strategically it makes at this point.
Everyone in the game knows Haye gave Harrison a pummeling in sparring. As with last night, Audleys best chance is a punchers chance through Haye’s lack of concentration. Despite his size advantages his lack of bottle rules his head, Sprott however (who lets face it is a journeyman) dominated the fight & would have been deserved in the win. But….it was a great KO – but a real stroke of fortune to say the least. I think Audley should clarify the ‘false prophet’ statement, Freudian slip maybe?
WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE WRITERS ON THIS SITE? Did you watch the fight??? Harrison is UBER S-H-I-T, he was being dominated for 12 rounds until he finally managed to throw one huge lucky bomb that completly flattered his appalling performance. I would give him 2 minuets tops against Haye and thats being generous.
Its mad to think isn’t it a gold medal winning southpaw, standing 6’4 1/2″ tall, 250lbs with an 86″ reach and all the natural tools to go with it has never even had a title match.
I’ve never had an article to comment on my opinion of Audley so I’ll write it here.
I’ll say this for Audley he certainly has a look of determination in his eyes now and to think he actually fought most of the fight with one hand.
If Audley had got the proper management he needed all those years ago he would have been a champion by now. Instead he F****D up his career by going it alone thinking he was a superstar, choosing bad opponents that never improved him, wasting time on promoting himself instead of working out the kinks in the gym he was making TV appearances thinking he was a celebrity.
That took all his time away from what he should have been doing, improving as a boxer, increasing his ranking and beating better opponents to get recognised as a contender.
As for beating David Haye; not very likely, I do believe Audley could give Haye a spot of bother if he used his natural skills, but I don’t think he would go further than 6 rounds. Audley likes to run back and push away opponents with his long reach, however with Haye’s good head-movements and coming forward banging style; it would only mean Haye smacking Audley on the chin and ending the fight quickly.
Although the result would be most likely HAYE winning a Haye V Audley fight would still be exciting to see.
Cast your mind back 16 months ago, Harrison was beaten by a part time Belfast taxi driver, yea im really sure haye would have major problems with a quality fighter like Harrison. Llf
People do not seem to realize that Audley can punch. He threw a fast and powerful left hook against Sprott. Harrison has stopped Danny Williams also. I also believe that if Harrison had landed a big left hook on Haye, Haye would have gone down for the count just like Sprott had done. I would love to see Audley stopping the big mouthed Haye.
is this a joke question , haye by early ko . odds haye 1/50 harrison 25/1. class gap is as wide as the pacific ocean
haye has an ordanairy chin? audly has been knocked out at least 3 times lol
I thought about it, for about half a second. David Haye would knock Harrison out in 1 round, and here’s why. Harrison is missing the most important ingredient required in a truly great fighter, NOT major skills, NOT lightning hands and feet, NOT a granite chin (although these things do help I suppose), but a HEART. A willingnes to just to give everything you’ve got in order to prevail. David Haye, having seen Audley fight and he sparred him as a Cruiserweight and allegedly schooled him then, would probably take him out with the first big bomb he lands and it would almost certainly arrive in the 1st round as we’d be pretty much certain that Audley would just be on the back foot, looking to hold. We’ve seen it so many times with Audley in the past, and a last round KO over Michael Sprott (a cracker admittedly) doesn’t change it for me, neither does a Prizefighter win against 3 novices. To be in the position he is in is incredible and Barry Hearn deserves a medal. Haye aside, Audley hasn’t proven himself the best in Britain, never mind Europe!! Would anybody agree that Michael Sprott Vs Audley Harrison was a meeting of the 2 best fighters in Europe at the current time? Me neither. Sosnowski deserved it I reckon and Audley was lucky to even get the shot. He’ll never fight the likes of a Tyson Fury, Chisora, Sexton or McDermott now cos he’s got bigger fish to fry. Good Luck to him.
Ridiculous article, pure and simple, this man needs a reality check. For all the stick haye gets on here this article is the biggest insult, worst of the lot, suggesting audelys size advantage would cause haye too much trouble, audely lost (badly) to a man the same size as haye, Martin rogan.
defo not as Haye wouldve knocked him out…but in saying that, if Haye wouldve been caught by the punch Harrison threw Haye wouldve been the one counting how many lights are above ringside from his back….the punch was on the button
Ahh come on lol, Haye is a different league to Harrison. Did you see the panic on Harrison’s face when he was close to Sprott?
He was losing badly, and I must say the punch he caught Sprott with was a minter, and it saved his career, but seriously he is the most frustrating fighter I have ever watched. All that boxing ability, size, reach and still in great shape but all that wasted talent.
If he had that 12th round attitude in the start of his fights he would be amazing, people would love him, its heart and balls, he needs more, that’s all. Bit late in the game for that though, he just don’t have it.
Anyway he would try and hug Haye to death, it would be terrible, don’t see it happening though, and I sense your having a dig at Haye comparing him to Harrison
i reckon harrison would have knocked out anyone with the punch he landed on sprott last night!
harrison would lose. hayes too quick and too powerful
Ridiculous article. No chance for Audley.
audley is around the same level as tyson fury both have a big mouth and nothing to back it up but atleast fury is young
the only the he can beat is a doner kebab and a can of bud and he struggles with that
what Harrison has good power? as soon as he moves to top 10 fighter he will gat whupped again, no make that top 20
Are you serious. No obviously your not serious.
Haye by KO round 1. And id put my mortgage on that
Anyone else out there perplexed as to how anyone apart from the man himself is mentioning the words ‘Audley Harrison’ and ‘world title shot’ in the same sentence? On what grounds exactly would he be worth a title fight? Sadly it just goes to show how far the division has fallen. Thankfully, love him or loath him, David Haye is bringing some much needed interest to the heavyweights.
If their infamous sparring session is anything to go by Harrison would get sparked inside the first couple of rounds
are you mad??? Haye would destroy him in the 1st round i reckon.
harrison dont even move his head, not at all, just stands there and get hammered on counter. As soon as harrison throws a punch u got about half an hour to decide how u wanna counter him, then 20 mins to decide how hard and exactly where you wanna throw it!!! For god sake, the guy moves at a snails pace. Really dont know hows hes still in the game, in fact i do, heavyweight ent got much talent, as every1 knows…..
How can he beat heavyweights no.1, its quite simple, he cant, not if his bloody life depended on it!
I think a reality check is needed,Harrison could beat Haye and give him trouble with his physical advantages, really?
Is this the same Audley Harrison that lost to the small Martin Rogan?
Harrison knocks out Sprott and all of a sudden he is world tittle material, credit where it is due he did it with one hand and I applaud him for guttsing it out but come on he was fighting at the level he belongs European not world!!
Harrison hasn’t proved himself enough to fight Haye, interesting to see him against Valuev a Haye victim personally I think Valuev would walk Harrison down and end him late on
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha…….NO
Hayes would knock Harrison out inside of five rounds he’s like rabbit caught in the a cars headlights when under a barrage of punches.
