Video: Mayweather vs Mosley NYC Press Conference

“Who R U Picking?” “Who are you picking?” The buzz surrounding the biggest night of boxing this year has already started as superstar and six-time World Champion Floyd “Money” Mayweather and welterweight mega-star, five-time World Champion and current WBA Welterweight World Champion Sugar Shane Mosley, are set to meet in Mayweather vs. Mosley: Who R U Picking?, on Saturday, May 1 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas in a spectacular bout which will be produced and distributed live on HBO Pay-Per-View® beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

The bout, promoted by Mayweather Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions, and sponsored by Cerveza Tecate, AT&T, Dewalt Tools and StubHub, promises to be a spectacular display of talent and skill with Mayweather and Mosley will meet in a 12-round welterweight battle that is already being compared to other great and historic welterweight match-ups like Sugar Ray Leonard against Tommy Hearns and Oscar de la Hoya against Felix Trinidad.

“Ever since I came back to the sport I said I only wanted to fight the best and Shane Mosley is one of the best,” said Mayweather (40-0, 25 KO’s). “Not only does he have the skills, but he is also fast, strong and a very tough competitor. His speed and power won’t mean much that night against my will and determination to dominate him inside the square circle. When I compete against the best, I am always at my best; so on May 1 the fans will see one great performance.”

“I have always wanted to fight Floyd Mayweather and now that dream is finally coming true,” said Mosley, (46-5, 39 KO’s). “Floyd is excellent at what he does, but my past record of beating the best competition and other great champions shows that he is just another one of my opponents I intend to beat. He has never faced anyone like me before and I think that will be a big factor on May 1 when I plan to show him just what it means to meet a true champion in the ring.”

“This fight has been in the making for a long time and now Floyd has the opportunity to showcase his skills against a great champion like Shane,” said Leonard Ellerbe, CEO, Mayweather Promotions. “It is these kinds of opportunities that elevate and excite Floyd. The people and the polls might be wondering who is going to win this fight, but on May 1, I have no doubt that Floyd is going to give them a dominant performance and continue to prove why he is the best fighter in the world today. “

“The theme of this fight is “who are you picking?” because when two champions of this caliber meet in the ring, you can expect nothing but an extremely competitive fight and an unknown outcome that will only reveal itself on May 1,” said Richard Schaefer, CEO, Golden Boy Promotions. “Shane Mosley is one of the greatest fighters of this era and so is Floyd Mayweather, so it is a true gift that the fans will have the opportunity to see a fiercely competitive and fantastic night of boxing.”

“MGM Grand is thrilled to host two of the sport’s superstars,” said Richard Sturm, President of Sports and Entertainment for MGM MIRAGE. “Mayweather and Mosley bring tremendous speed and skill to the ring and will no doubt electrify the fans on May 1.”

“Mayweather vs. Mosley is a showdown of superstars that fans have been talking about for years,” said Mark Taffet of HBO Pay-Per-View. “It has all the elements of a pay-per-view mega-fight.”

A 1996 Olympic Bronze medalist for the United States, the undefeated Floyd Mayweather has since gone on to strike gold in the professional ranks, winning six world titles in five weight classes to firmly establish himself as one of the most elite fighters of his era. With dominating wins over the likes of World Champions Diego Corrales, Jose Luis Castillo, Arturo Gatti, Zab Judah, Oscar de la Hoya and Ricky Hatton, Mayweather was on a meteoric rise to hall of fame greatness when he announced his retirement from the ring in 2008. But he left the door open for a return if the right challenge presented itself and after 18 months of a much needed physical and emotional break from the ring, he returned to boxing on September 19, 2009 with a dominating and spectacular victory over future Hall of Famer Juan Manuel Marquez. He now faces Mosley on May 1 in what will be one of his most challenging contests to date.

In addition to his boxing accomplishments, Mayweather has managed to become a crossover star, appearing in HBO®’s Emmy® award winning reality series “24/7” three separate times as he provided cameras with an all access look at his training and personal life. Additionally, as a competitor on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars, Mayweather was introduced to a completely new audience with over 35 million viewers tuning in each week.

It would be easy for Sugar Shane Mosley to be a satisfied man, but Mosley will not be content until he feels that he has climbed every mountain the sport has to offer, including beating Floyd Mayweather on May 1. His goal is to continue to win as this future Hall of Famer always has, compiling six world titles and having ruled the lightweight, welterweight and junior middleweight divisions over his storied 16-year career. Mosley has defeated them all, including the likes of Oscar de la Hoya, Fernando Vargas (twice), Luis Collazo and Ricardo Mayorga, but his most recent victory could be his most spectacular – a ninth round stoppage of Antonio Margarito in January 2009 to win the welterweight world title for the third time.

Mosley has a worldwide fan base and feels that he can continue to win, including one more world championship, his sixth, which is an amazing feat for any fighter, but seems easy when you’re a given the hallowed “Sugar” nickname, shared by Mosley with the legendary “Sugars,” Robinson and Leonard. He also hopes to ascend back to the number one spot on the mythical pound for pound list, which will only happen by taking on the best in the world, fight in and fight out.

Tickets priced are $1,250, $1,000, $600, $300 and $150, not including applicable service charges, are on sale now and limited to 10 per person and ticket sales at $150 are limited to two (2) per person with a total ticket limit of 10 per person. The MGM Grand Garden Arena is home to concerts, championship boxing and premier sporting and special events. The Arena offers comfortable seating for as many as 16,800 with excellent sightlines and state-of-the-art acoustics, lighting and sound. Prominent events to date have included world championship fights between Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson as well as Oscar De La Hoya vs. Floyd Mayweather and George Foreman vs. Michael Moorer; and concerts by The Rolling Stones, Madonna, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Bette Midler, George Strait, Janet Jackson, Phil Collins, Billy Joel, U2, ‘N Sync, Sting, Coldplay, Alicia Keys, Jimmy Buffett and the Barbra Streisand Millennium Concert. The MGM Grand Garden Arena also is home to the annual Academy of Country Music Awards (ACMA), Frozen Fury NHL pre-season game and the U.S. Open of Motocross.

The Mayweather vs. Mosley pay-per-view telecast, beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT, has a suggested retail price of $54.95, will be produced and distributed by HBO Pay-Per-View® and will be available to more than 71 million pay-per-view homes. The telecast will be available in HD-TV for those viewers who can receive HD. A mark of a” True Champion is Humility”.But this guy(pbf)whos face is like a character in a comic book.Talks about himself(his insecurity to the Pacman, his PPV buys vs De la Hoya, his insinificant zero is zero indeed, and nothing special) all the time. .He thinks his the greatest. Remember the statement even the world is againts him. But God is with me. His talking bout himself. Thats how lofty he regards himself(sadly he dont know what his doing except the good of his own) like— God. This the very reasons boys and girls dont like villains(devil). Vox Populi Vox Dei = Voice of the People is the Voice of God.

i like the way he says toe to toe battle. when the fu*k has mayweather ever gone toe to toe.

  • 15 Rounds says:

Yes sir vinny is true alot ppl know about this somehow no one makes a big deal of it i guess he has money to shut ppl up & roger got fined what a slap in the rist —> boxing is a dirty business at times :(

You Floyd fans need to argue with the boxing writers of America. They have Pacman as the best boxer of the decade. You also need to argue with the Ring magazine as they have Pacman as the best p4p fighter on the planet. You also need to argue with Forbes who have Manny in their top earners of the year for 2009. Next question?]

You have some great facts. But lets be real here. If you are going to say he is the best fighter of the year, I will give him that because Floyd only fought one fight in 2009. So, he he shouldnt have recevied that award.

If you want to argue boxer of the decade, I would have to say you must also understand that Floyd was out of boxing for almost 2 years and he was the P4P champion before he left..

  • vinny says:

@15rounds: Is that true about May being caught with illegal hand wraps?

  • Bloopers 101 says:

I believe that this fight is set up from the day of the Mayweather vs Marques fight, the’ve been planning to do this for a along time because of the Mayweather’s money problem. From the video they put out in this site, Mosley somewhat nervous, this is not Mosley like we’ve seen in the past! Something fishy!

And by the way, Mayweather senior is a great friend of Mosley!, Junior and Mosley played basketball together, and they hang out together…

  • 15 Rounds says:

Mayweather says hes clean lol well my felllow boxing fans mayweather is not clean he got caught with illegal hand wraps versus zab judah and guess who was fined roger mayweather aint that some b.s.??? – i know alot of dirty secrets from alot of boxers sad but their true.

  • Ma Nong says:

Man, Im still laughing at what Floyd Senior just said in an interview recently. He says Pacman is not juicing after all hes taking something else and this something else makes bullets bounce off him thats why he won all his recent fights !! (hopefully he’ll never provide that proof)….So there you go
Floyd fanatics and Fans ! See what we told you ?

  • Ma Nong says:

Why would anyone wants to see this fight ? I mean no disrespect to Mosley or Floyd but it wasnt long ago Mosley fought Cotto…and Cotto won…BUT just recently Cotto was badly beaten by Pacman….so in essence Floyd is fighting someone who could been beaten by Pacman already..

  • kray says:

Floyd knows what it takes to put on a show. I can see him promoting other fighters, once he leaves the sport. On the other hand, Mosely is not used to the bright lights, it seems. He looked, nervous…out of place. The scuffle looked a bit staged. We all know, they were not gonna f*ck up a payday, like this, over some bulls*it.

Mosely seems like he’s affected by Floyd’s psych job, already, though. He’s clearly no sh*t talker. He’ll be ready to KTFO Floyd, which will play right into Floyd’s hands. Brother Naseem, is the only one who may prevent this. That guy is sharp. I appreciated what he had to say, at the press conference. Shane is sounding quite punchy though. He made need to wrap up his career, sooner rather than later.

This fight may break the all time boxing PPV record (set by Floyd and ODLH), or get damn close.

  • Coolio says:

I like Mosley, hes a cool guy ! Same thing with Floyd but floydie is just a little too much….acts like hes the best theres is and no on else…he thinks hes Ali….hes far from Ali if you ask me….

But you know who I like better ? Pacman…thats who..he has
brought excitement back to boxing and this is the was fans
like it so be it….Pacman vs Clottey !! WATCH IT…YOU WONT
    REGRET IT !!!

  • rat-a-too says:

bri #floyd already broke the news,of around how much he makes this fight,as gbp never gaves numbers, floyd said earlier in negotiation when he was doubtful, that he rather take 5 million fight knowing he win vs a 10 million fight and unsure he win, so its 10 million and ppv.and floyd last fight he sold 15 dollars theater seats as ppv that why its had a million buys the take is way less, but your right floyd not broke,

  • Alan says:

Moseley is one fight removed from what was near defeat. Mayweather wins this with ease. I’m looking forward to it but this is by no means competitive.

  • vinny says:

Everyone should just enjoy the fact that PBF vs Mosley is finally happening. I’m putting my money on Shane!

  • Sai says:

Isn’t this Mayweather vs Mosley fight? Why are you talking about Pacquiao?

  • PAC-I-JUICERr says:

This is going to be a great fight. You got the two P4P top welter weights about to do battle. Only if Pac wasn’t scared of Floyd and Shane, he missed out seriously.

  • KingDaddy6 says:

    @ bri
You know what? You’re right. Mayweather probably made all that money you’re drooling over. Mosley may be earning 6x what Manny is getting this time around. But you know what? Manny still has his pride. Manny still has his integrity. Manny still has his honor. And even though none of those will “pay the bills”, he’ll have those long after Mayweather, Mosley or whomever leaves the ring.

  • bri says:

STFU. your actually correct about the sales. abrum edmitted on espn that they have sold 30,000 tickets and hope to sell out by march 13th. jones bout 30,000 dollers worth of tickets. in contract it said if abrum can not sell the tickets jones purchased by march 13th. abrum is to pay jones back with proceads from match. and about floyd been broke. you dont buy a new 20,000 square foot mansion if you are broke. floys had payed taxes late for the last 15 years always does it and actually payed all he owed b4 his match up with marquez. all plubisity for his matchup. he made 70 mill after taxes the year he retired. made 20 mill for marquez match. makin 40 mill for this match up. thats over 30 mill after taxes no state tax in nevada. boy thats 50 mill after taxes this year alone. can make for then 40 mill for this match dependin on ppv numbers. MANNY MAKIN 6 MILL FOR HIS MATCH??????????? MOSLEY MAKIN 3 TIMES WHAT MANNY MAKIN. SUPERSTAR WHO. numbers dont like. and they say manny aint no star. not like floyd anyway.

  • Doc Holiday says:

Shane is diffintely not witty with his word play. If he tries to out to out talk or joke Mayweather he’s going to look foolish because its not possible! Shane just grins hella hard because he’s uncomfortable with the verbal stuff.

Oh yeah…why did the dude in the background have to tell Mosely to say he was going to KO Floyd…SCRIPTED MUCH!!!

  • stfu says:

yup yup, and you dont even have to be a genius to know Arum was lying out his ass about 40,000 sold. Its probably closer to 30,000, with 20,000 of that bought by Jerry Jones. LOL, only 10,000 sold in reality. And almost all of them $50 nosebleeds. And most of those nosebleeds were picked up by scalpers. LOL, dumbasses thought they had the hot ones, until Mayweather-Mosley got signed, now they have some worthless paper that they gotta try and unload on the cheap. Bwahahahah.

  • bri says:

and please stop all the stupid he is afraid talk. first he is afraid of delhoya then afraid of hatton then afraid of mosley now afraid of manny. none of these boxers are afraid of anythin. you dont match up with mosley if you afraid you dont match up with floyd if you afraid. you dont do that sport for 20 years if you afraid. manny floyd mosley none afraid of anythin. manny not afraid of anythin. except blood test. keep the roids alive

  • bri says:

manny camp has been talkin about floyd for months. even when floyd was quiet sayin nothin about anyone. the only way anyone will listen to them is if they talk about floyd. manny supposedly such super star but only way he can promote his match is to talk about floyd. floyds apponent is makin twice what manny is makin for match. manny clottey is a dead match. they could not sell out even with jones buyin 30,000 dollers worth of tickets. ppv number comparison will be real funny.keep the hait alive.

  • Fighter says:

On the one hand, Floyd’s saying that Mosley is a cheat, and an old fighter, who took this fight out of despiration. On the other, when asked why he took the Mosley fight, he answers that Mosley is one of the best welterweights in the worl. Which is it? This guy’s a clown.

  • bronzman says:

money faker keeps calling pacman a user of drugs its so sicken to hear him call pac a user…. we all know manny was going to test for there fight.. we dont need floyed to head up a drug testing policy we need him to fight.. the best and the best right now is the pacman …. hes not a real man he so full of$$$$$$$$$ floyd stop your crying and be a man…. and fight pacman…. if you keep insisting a random blood test in boxing it will never happen in boxing and if your traing i dont think any fighter would want to keep geting poked … yes there should be testing but not like floyd wants it will never happen right now boxing is a joke leting floyd run his mouth calling pacman a user thats wroung..

  • stfu says:

hah, thats yesterdays news son, get with the present times. No doubt Mayweather and Mosley make more than Pac this year, no doubt their fight has more significance than the Clottey fight, and no doubt which is the hottest ticket in town.

Let them sit in a half-empty football stadium in Dallas (HAHAHA), we’re going to Vegas baby! MGM Grand baby! The Strip, the strippers, stacks of chips, and THE hottest fight this year.

  • sjallil says:

man i love both of them this fight is gonna be så good

  • Fight Fan says:

You Floyd fans need to argue with the boxing writers of America. They have Pacman as the best boxer of the decade. You also need to argue with the Ring magazine as they have Pacman as the best p4p fighter on the planet. You also need to argue with Forbes who have Manny in their top earners of the year for 2009. Next question?

  • rudolph says:

you just gotta admit it now, facts are facts, pac didn’t want it, with either mosley or mayweather. He just didnt. Whether he was scared or not, whether he was advised it was a bad matchup with either guy, it doesnt matter. Bottomline, he ducked both P4P contenders and two of the best fighters in the game today. No debating, no arguing, no crying, no whining – it was an out and out duck, duck, goose. Pac just didnt want it. He didnt. He didnt want any part of either of these guys.

  • Fight Fan says:

It is a known fact that Floyd is broke. He has asked for a loan off Oscar De La Hoya. The IRS own his ass in this moment in time. The money he made from the Marquez fight went straight to them. “Money Mayweather” Ha ha ha ha ha ha

  • rudolph says:

heh, 14,000 tickets gone in 15 minutes.

this fight is going to do sick PPV buys.

  • Tweezy316 says:

yo bri I didn’t know that. So pac-clottey is only runnin fro $50-$700 and May-Mosley is goin from $150-$1200 daaamn. And they said Pac was soooo popular lol. And then Arum oh Pac has a huge, huge fan base lol. What a bunch of liars Jones buyin up all the tickets tryin to make it seem like a mega fight hahaha desperate mofo’s. I’m tellin you the final numbers will be embarassing when they compare the two. And of course they will say that Mosley is a bigger name than Clottey. But Cotto is a bigger name than Marquez and they took that victory now didn’t they? lol oh these pactards are hilarious. Pac is not a superstar he’s media hype and there is no hype around this fight thus he will be exposed after the final numbers come in. Enjoy the ride now Pactards but this ride ENDS SOON!! hahahaha

  • LuvBoxing says:

Forgot to mention this is a dream fight for me. I really like both of these fighters and I truly believe they are both ELITE boxers that are at the top of their games.

These are by far the two best American fighters out there and two of the Top 5 fighters in the world, bar none.

If Floyd is going to lose, I would rather it be to Mosley than anyone else.

Mosley is going to be competitive in this fight. I think Mayweather will win, but Mosley will make a GOOD fight of it.

  • Glass Joe says:

Floyd is hilarious man I hope he doesn’t leave boxing any time soon

  • bri says:

mosley makin 20 mill. floyd 40 mill manny is makin 12 mill for his match b4 he pays arum who takes 27% and delahoya. yes delahoya and bhop make money of every manny match. the #s say manny is not on same level as floyd when it comes to drawin for matches. mosley was to make 1.5 mill to match up with berto. now he makin 20 mill to match up with floyd. floyd opponents do more money # then manny does. and for all you haters. jones owner of cowboys purchased 30,000 dollers worth of tickets for manny clottey so they didnt realy sell 20,000 first hour. that was mostley jones thats why match has not sold out yet even thouh tickets run 50 dollers to 700 dollers. manny aint not floyd. cant wait for the ppv numbers. keep the hait up. ********NUMBERS DONT LIE********

  • LuvBoxing says:

Everyone is bagging on Floyd for talking pac Man, but it is Pac Mans camp that is putting something negative out about Mayweather EVERY SINGLE DAY. They are trying to sell that fight by trashing Mayweather.

Heck, all three of them (Arum, Roach, Pac) all had stuff to say today.

I do not blame Pac or Mayweather for talking about each other because they are being asked about each other every other question. What are they suppose to do.

Pretty interesting that GBP comes out with the 3 million PPV number. They were right about the 1 million in the JMM fight and they seem pretty confident about this. If this fight does 3 million then I will be STUNNED. I do think it has a chance at 2 million though.

  • jose says:

Mosley wins in 8. He trains smart. Mayweather won’t be able to counter every punch coming his way.

  • Honestly says:

You feel me tweezy?!? Haha now that aint winin the debate on ticket sales pac fans are saying that it doesnt matter anymore haha… man the hate runs deep…

  • wowzabean says:

    Tweezy,

You can’t extrapolate those figures, wtf are you talking about. Pacquiao/Clottey sold over 20k in the first hours too, so what. Nobody cares about PPV sales, or ticket sales, I care about the fight I’m paying for. Which one is a better fight? You won’t know till after May 1st.

  • Tweezy316 says:

Man you guys need to lighten up. mayweather is hilarious and i’m gonna miss him when he retires for good. 14,000 tickets sold in 15 minutes!!! That just goes to show that if Mayweather-Mosley was fighting in a football stadium they could sell 100,000 not 40,000 so everyone who’s excited about pac-clottey and the 40,000 tickets sold ummm no. Let’s see 3 million predicted for ppv sales. I wonder how many Arum and Jones are predicting for Pac and Clottey lol. Man Pac really screwed up this time. Next time he’ll try to actually work things out before quickly signing to fight some bum that noone knows or cares about. Now this is how you hype a fight up. If you wanna see two guys have a make out session before they fight watch pac-clottey lol but if you wanna see real heated words exchanged than watch mayweather-mosley. And for you guys saying Mayweather went to far let Mosley decide that I mean afterall it was about Mosley NOT YOU!!! And if Mosley is really offended then let him do somethin about it. Mayweather will be apart of the 2 biggest fights ppv sales wise in boxing history. And people can’t deny him. And if Pac wins and steps up to the plate then you can make it 3. That’s unheard of.

  • fraudulently fraud jr says:

i got a gut feeling that when kfc is losing uncle roger and fraud sr will go up inside the ring to attack shane just like the one in judah fight!

  • Free one says:

But I hope is a real fight…. Cuzzz! This is tha first real fight 4 Floyd… Cuz Shane ain’t no joke… He still one of tha best rite now…

  • Tres3 says:

this fight is gonna be good, Oscar said it reminded him of Leonard/Hearns, i think it’s nothing like that, Leonard/Hearns was exciting all the way around, this will be more like Chavez/Whittaker, one chasing the other one back pedaling, but then again Swea Pea was way better than Floyd, and Chavez way better than Mosley, it’s gonna be a chase more than a fight but still intresting enough to watch, especially if you buuy a Tecate six pack and get $30 off, or some DeWalt tools and watch it for free! you can’t beat that!

  • Duke says:

    shane’s gonna lose this one.

  • Free one says:

This fight is a set-up… Floyd us going 2 win…

  • Haku313 says:

14,000 in 15 mins… and some of say Floyd is not a Big draw….Stop it!!!!!

  • Haku313 says:

Floyds my man but he wrong for embarrassing him for talking bout Shane wife… Nonetheless, Floyd will win

  • Anonymous says:

    bozo u dont make sense

they are all gbp related so its fishy to u?. but isnt pacman and clottey top rank fighters?. cotto is a top rank fighter as well. so ur point doesnt make sense. jus because he was injured once doesnt mean he makes up excuses alot o ffighter had to postpone a fight cuz of injury. joe ko

  • Honestly says:

Will it be a good fight? Will it be Mayweather’s hardest challenge yet? These things we do not know until both of them step in the ring and showcase their talent.. We can all speculate, but we will never know until we see them both in the ring.. We saw this with Oscar vs Pacquiao… Oscar was in no way prepared, and we did not know that until fight night… Anyways Mayweather will win in my opinion no matter what Shane can bring.

  • Ric says:

They are giving away coupons for a free fight.

  • Joe ko! says:

Finally a hard fight for Mayweather

He didnt expect Mosley fight to be called off and when it was it was practically forced on him

    Shane by Ko

Wont be suprised if Floyd gets a injury

  • Fighter says:

Can’t stand Floyd Mayweather. I really hope his luck runs out, and Shane catches him just right. To be honest, Floyd seemed a little shook, when Shane came in the ring and called him out after the JMM fight. He was very nervous. Watch the footage again if you have access. Floyd uses his mouth, and his entourage to give him confidence, but none of that will come into the ring with him.

  • Fighter says:

Big mistake for Mayweather to be talking about somebody’s personal life/family members. It gives people a different kind of motivation. This is not Ricky Hatton he’s trying to intimidate, it’s the SSM, the most game opponent he ever faced, and if Shane was’nt motivated, he is now. Floyd ran his mouth a little too much this time.

  • Tres3 says:

Mayweather is something else, disrespectful, and arrogant. I know you have to hype up a fight but you never bring in a guys family, what a f***ing punk!

  • Anonymous says:

round one goes to floyd. wata guy

lmaooo no matter wat u say bout mayweather man hes a funny guy.

way better than pac an clottys ass kissing match

  • Speaz says:

Mosley sounds more and more punchy everytime he gives an interview. This fight may very well be stopped by the ref or Mosley’s corner before round 10.

  • KingDaddy6 says:

The interview is going to turn into a “Why didn’t you fight Pacquiao?” or “When will you fight Pacquiao?” session. Fraud’s gonna try and hype a fight that will turn into a WWE-type circus event. No doubt uncle Roger will be coming off the top rope and choke slamming Mosley’s corner!

  • Caine says:

He’s upset coz Pac denied him of $40M

  • santi perres says:

The outcome of this fight will be determined by the first few rounds. If mosely can connect with a few of his power shots then we have a fight if not then we have a boring night ahead of us, I see fans booing in the late rounds.

  • Tres3 says:

Tuned in late, was he still calling out Pac’s name?
