Pacquiao vs. Clottey: Who Wins?
By Andrew Hall: Its only a week away. Fight fans everywhere are in a state of high anticipation. The training schedules of both fighters is slowly being tapered off in order to conserve energy. Both fighters are apprehensive. They feel tight. Nervous. Their minds are racing with all the various scenarios this fight could bring. Nobody knows for sure what will happen but what is the most likely outcome?
Size is always an advantage. The best size advantage to have is reach. Joshua Clottey has all the physical advantages over the Pacman. He has 3 inches in height, and he has 3 inches in reach. He is naturally the bigger stronger man. Also, he has never been knocked out (whereas Manny has been knocked out twice). Furthermore, these knockouts that Pacquaio experienced were at much slower weights. Thus, you’d have to conceded that Clottey has the advantage when it comes to their respective chins.
All that being said, why is Manny Pacquaio the favorite? The guy has steam rolled through De La Hoya, Hatton, and Miguel Cotto. When Joshua Clottey fought one of those men he was defeated in a very close decision. Thus, most people assume that Pac is surely to destroy the much larger man.
I predict the Joshua Clottey gives Pacquaio his first loss at welterweight. I am almost 100% certain that Pacquiao won’t be able to hurt him. On top of that, Clottey has the advantage in defense. Pacquaio is quite easy to hit and Joshua Clottey has proven quite adept at keeping punches at bay with his arm defense.
The greatest advantage that Pacquiao has is his intensity. He is the busier guy. Clottey is too passive at times. That is the reason why he has lost a few very close decisions. He seems to do enough to not win. That is what many are banking on when they say Pacquaio is going to win. He will steal the rounds with his aggression and thus win the decision.
There comes a time in a fighters life when he has to make a stand. He has to do something different than what he always does. This is that time for Joshua Clottey. If he loses t his fight via decision he will lose the respect of fight fans. We all know his problem. The guy just doesn’t show enough gumption. If he can go out there next Saturday and show he has the goods, I predict he will upset Manny Pacquiao.

It’s plain and simple, if Mayweather will not fight Manny Pacquiao that’s proving that he is afraid to face the best pound for pound fighter in the world. He makes a lot of excuses, coz Pacquiao is his worst nightmare…
here we go again — doomsayers for the pacman that become excuse-makers after the fight
If Mayweather defeats Mosley and then challanges and defeats
Paul Williams he will be hands down the best of this era period.
@ T-Bone and Common Sense; Zab will have been the slickest Floyd has ever seen. Also, Mosley. Mosley is just as fast as Manny. he might not seem it, because Manny’s style is to sworm in with a windmill of punches. Mosley is more calculated with his combinations.
And this talk about ODLH is elementary. Floyd fought oscar years before Manny did. Oscar had to come down to that fight. We’ll see what happens when Manny comes up a bit. As to your comment about Marquez, if Manny was so great, why did marquez get off the canvas, and give him such a hard time. When Marquez got up from Floyd, Floyd controlled the rest of the fight. Can’t say the same for Manny.
Bottom line, is that Manny is a technically flawed fighter. He does not belong in the same ranks as Mosley, Mayweather, Berto, Colazzo, Martinez, Williams. He has too many flaws. He’s entertaining, but he has obviously been propped up by the powers that b, because he’s a crowd pleaser. But having never faced the same type of opposition as a Shane Mosley, or Paul Williams, he’s not of that calliper. He and Freddy pick flatfooted, come forward, shot, over the hill, damaged fighters that are taylor made for his style. I would say the same for Mayweather, but at least he fought other speed guys, like Zab Judah, who is less tough, but faster than Manny.
Common sense, I disagree with you 100 percent. Zab Judah was and still would be the fastest fighter he has ever fought. If you look at when Manny fought even Hatton, there were times within those first two rounds (hahaha) that he missed Hatton completely. Pacquiao wouldnt get clean shots on Mayweather…which would frustrate him. Plus, PAcquiao is use to opponents walking right in to him. Mayweather is not stupid, he wont do that. Plus, if you look at hatton, and Cotto…they try to trade with Pacquiao, this is something Mayweather will not do. PLUS, Mayweather is the much bigger fighter. Mayweather would just keep Pac away from him. It would take Mayweather a couple of rounds, then he would pick him apart. Pac is dangerous, no doubt about it…but Mayweather is too smart.
@Fighter,
This is true. Also, not only did Floyd beat them first, he fought each at their “natural” weight (OK, Hatton’s natural weight isn’t 140 because he walks around at 170 or so, but that’s the weight he fought at his whole career – and Floyd stopped him first).
I think the bottom line is styles make fights, and nobody has found the style that beats Floyd. Even though it’s still speculation (and I don’t even want to talk about Manny vs Floyd anymore because Manny has a more dangerous fight this weekend), I say Floyd stinks out a win against Manny (he can jab/ pot shot him and tie him up all night long).
And what blueprint are you talking about? Did Pac immitate any of Floyd’s moves? And Hatton and ODLH changed coaches, being one that’s named Mayweather! such a lame excuse.
Yeah right! And Floyd needed to be 2 pounds overweight and Marquez needed to go 2 divisions up and 2 pounds under. You orgot about that… being a boxing fan.
Lapu Lapu. I’m not a Floyd fan, but a boxing one. I’m also no nonsense, so I need to make an observation that you leave out in your last post. Manny may have done a better job against Hatton and ODLH, but it was after their embarrassing losses to Floyd YEARS prior. Floyd gave Manny the blueprint. That’s right, The supposed superstar, Manny was eating Floyd’s leftovers. In fact, Manny and Floyd both fought Marquez. Marquez gave Manny a hard time in both fights, and Floyd destroyed him 12 of 12 rounds.
$50M dollar question. Why Pac settled for $6M vs Clottey than $25M than Mayfeather. Hmmm.. roids, PEDS, A-meth whatever fears Pac to expose? LOL.
Floyd wins the physcho war by carrying out his bloody tests with Mosley. And so the business sides of PPV’s fore cast at 3M buys vs 750K with Pac-Clottey.
Next time, floyd will demand for 65%-35% share in his favor because he considers himself as PPV king.
Pac-May won’t happen as Pac will still refuse the bloody tests and less percentage. Pac will end up a local politician championing the Pacman cockfighting world derby.
Jaysmooth, I don’t know where you got your info of Mayweather being the underdog on his fight with ODLH and Hatton. The odds on the fight were:
Mayweather 4/9 De la Hoya 7/4
Mayweather 4/7 Hatton 13/8
C’mon men, PACMAN did a better job on these two guys.

Lex why dont Mayweather fight Williams??
Dont accuse pacman for picking fights when your favourite does the same thing.
Who has Floyd Fought that wasnt’ considered on the best at the time they fought. Who has Floyd fought that had just lost a fight. If you look at Floyds history he fought the best there was at that particular time. You can sit her and speculate and say what about Cotto and williams but they were making names for themselves when Floyd decided to hang it up..They weren’t proven fighters. Go back and tell me who he dodged. He asked to fight the best there was and he beat those that took the challenge. The only fighter that wasn’t the best was Oscar and he only fought Oscar because of the Pay out.

What happened to Cotto, is not an indication of how the fight with Clottey will go. Just because Cotto got a close decision on Clottey and then gets KO’d by Pac, does not mean Clottey get’s KO’d or Pac dominates Clottey. I think a better indication, of how they handle high pressure fighters, is both of their respective bouts against Margarito.
Cotto could not handle that pressure as well as Clottey did. In fact, Clottey was up on the cards, and could have won, had he not broken his hand, and started favoring that injury. Cotto, on the other hand, said “no mas”, after taking all that punishment–basically did the same against Pac. Clottey took Margarito’s best shots too. But, his defense, as well as sharp offense (when he let his hands go), kept him in the fight. Cotto has subpar defense. Based on what I’ve seen from Clottey, he has the remedy to Pac’s speed. And it’s not when he covers up, either. When he starts landing some of his combos, then the tables will turn. Unfortunately, he will have damn near everything (outside the ring) working against him.

Big Lo, If you are indeed following PACMAN’s fight, you must remember that in his fights with ODLH, Hatton, Cotto, he was the underdog as most analysts are writing him off. Again, only when PACMAN won convincingly then these analyst were taking notice. But they were looking the other way, instead of giving credit to PACMAN, they are highlighting that his victims were damaged goods.
But to PACMAN personally, he doesn’t care as long as he gives the boxing fans the fight that they wanted.
Floyd was predicted to lose against Oscare Dela Hoya because he was fighting a bigger fighter. He was predicted to lose against Hatton because Hatton was more experienced and supposedly more powerful. so, just as Manny was suppose to loose so was Floyd.. So, whats your point..
Lets not write off Clottey as if hes not a challenge –
he is a challenge – hes a true welterweight and hes
bigger and stronger than Pacman – all he needs is
one good punch placed in the right place and
goodbye ! Pacman must be cautious and not be too
anxious ! Pacman will eventually catch him with
volume punches but not without stamina speed and
footwork!
GO PACMAN !

It doesnt matter how big Clottey gets Roach will find a way for Pacquiao to hurt him. With Roach in his corner Pacquiao cant lose. And he will beat Mayweather when that fight eventually comes up.
Don’t get it wrong, Roach is a great trainer but he isn’t in the ring. Everyone thought that about Ricky Hatton when he was undefeated an Roach was his trainer and Floyd beat him. so, to say he can’t loose with Roach in his corner is a little to much. Roach has been a the losing end of several fights. If i am not mistaken I think Floyd beat 2 or 3 of Roaches fghters. Dont quote me on the last sentence.

If Pacquiao KO Clottey. The Pacquiao/Mayweather will never happen because Mayweather will be too scared to fight him. Pacquiao by KO.
LOL..shut up guy..Floyd would beat either of these two fighters hands down and every real boxing fan who is unbiased and don’t hate any particular fighter would know this.
Anders;
Mayweather can only fight one guy at a time. Thats why he’s fighting the top welterweight on May 1, and PWill will be next if Manny lies his way out of fighting Money May again.
Lex why dont Mayweather fight Williams??
Dont accuse pacman for picking fights when your favourite does the same thing.
WHY DON’T YOU GAMBLE ALL YOUR ASSETS TO INCLUDE YOU FAMILY LIVES IF YOU WANT ” MR. WRITER”……..PUT YOUR BET ON CLOTTEY, I’LL BET MY WHOLE AMPUAN CLAN’S LIVES HERE IN MAGUINDANAO’S PEACE HAVEN. NEVER STEP IN PHILIPPINE SOIL:
OR YOUR HEAD & SOUL WILL SEPARATE ON YOUR BODY……
we dont know clottey yet. When Clottey Fought Miguel cotto, i though that Clottey would of won. However he lost. When i saw them fight, Clottey is a dangerous man, an elite fighter that can take a hit. But in my prediction, Pacquiao would win because he has the speed advantage and Pacquiao doesnt get tired easily. Clottey will have a hard time catching up to pacquiao. I think pacquiao will win by K.O in 12 round, if not then its a split(This Is my Prediction which is my opinion).
I would like to think this is a competitive bout, but I don’t know.
I gave Cotto the edge over Pac. Shows what I know.
Regarding the writer’s comment ‘Time for Clottey to take a stand’ I think that time came when Cotto was cut & fighting with one eye. Some agression on Clottey’s part & he may have been fighting Pac last year. But Clottey seems to lack something in the ‘finishing the job’ department, a fatal flaw in a top tier competitor.
If Manny is taking this fight as seriously as his last few, and I don’t see any evidence he’s not, I think he hands Clottey another loss, maybe in a devastating fashion.
Of course, one punch can change any fight.
@lapu
I’m just using Freddie’s own words. He admits to DLH not being able to pull the trigger against Forbes and to Hatton being a club fighter. He felt his man had the advantage.
About Pac’s fan-friendly style, that’s one thing I’ve always liked about him: his willingness to fight (just like Mosley).
But, unlike the analysts that you talk about, I picked Pac againts Hatton and Cotto, but I think Clottey has a better chance than all of them.
I respect your opinion and I hope your wrong. With Freddie Roach guide, I still believe Manny Pacquiao will win. It would be a tough fight for Manny, but I believe he will prevail. Pacquiao-Mayweather fight? Forget about it at this time, its just a dream and the way I see it, it will just stay a dream. If Pacquiao wins his fight with Clottey next week, there is a big possibility that something might happen that will cancel the Mayweather-Mosley encounter in May. Just guessing!!!!
@tbone, yes DLH has a longer reach and yes a lot of his punches were not clean, BUT a lot of his punches WERE AND don’t forget that Pac will be the fastest puncher Floyd has ever faced. When was the last time you saw Pac unable to hit his opponent? Even with Marquzz, he kncked him down 4 times in two fighte. Make no mistake about it. Pac WIL hit Floyd, and his punches will feel a lot different than DLH. Let’s see how floyd handles that if he ever fights him. And that is why it is such a tantalizing fight if us fans ever get to see it.
@Lex,
Even though I don’t care for Pac as much as most of his recent supporters (because I’ve been watching Pac since he fought Leholoho Ledwaba – not just since he moved up in weight), I will give him FULL credit if he can get past Clottey convincingly (assuming he’s not on the PED’s). If it’s another “robbery” that Clottey should have won, then I won’t be as gracious (much like I think Marquez was robbed in his 2 fights with Pac). But, if Pac can dominate Clottey (or even puts up a good fight), then he will deserve full credit for taking this fight and for doing well.
Yes, Roach did pick DLH, Hatton, Cotto, and Clottey because he thought they had each lost a step or because they were exposed in recent fights, but with that said, the fight with Cotto was a big step up for Pac, and the fight with Clottey is an even bigger step (IMO).
Get over yourself lex. Tell your buddy Floyd to man up and fight him, if he can get past Mosley.
common sense. First, almost all, if not A LOT of ODLH’s punches didnt land cleanly at all. His jab was effective, but ODLH had a great jab, and he had a much longer reach. Pac wont be able to get in to Mayweather
Why fight Mosley, Mayweather, or Williams when you can fight Clottey? Pacquiao will win easily, that’s why he’s fighting him. Clottey is a second-tier fighter; he has a granite chin but has no stamina and no real power or speed. One knockout in the last 5 years. Mayweather catches flak for beating Baldomir who was the ring and lineal champ, hadn’t lost in 8 years, was much bigger (over a 10 pound advantage for Baldy, who walked around @170-180 pounds) and had beat Judah, Gatti, and Clottey. Now Manny is supposed to be a warrior for fighting Clottey who lost to Baldomir and lost his last fight, instead of facing any of the top three fighters at 147. Thats not being a warrior willing to fight anyone, that is cherry-picking and ducking.
@ Frankly,
It’s looking more and more like it won’t be possible. First, Floyd is going to demand a higher slice of the pie (based on his PPV numbers vs Pac’s). Second, he is now insisting on random testing up to fight night (no more 14 day window).
With these demands, and with the ego of both camps, I don’t see a compromise (although, I was impressed that Floyd allowed Pac to get 50% of the pie for the potential March 13 date, because for the last year or so he maintained that he should get the bigger slice because he was undefeated).
But, with that said, Pac has a serious challenge next weekend and may not be in a position to negotiate a fight with Floyd afterwards.
Dont be shocked if Clottey wins this
Both Pacquiao and Clottey will give their best INSIDE the ring. Lets just wait and see. They are there to win! I can’t wait!!!
Both fighters and their trainers would have made gameplans already. It comes down to how the fighters follow the gameplan and adjusts. Too many variables. Plus there’s LUCK involved to!
Which leads us to have a very exciting and unpredictable fight!!!
GO MANNY!!!
GO JOSHUA!!!
Good luck to both of you!
Cotto and Clottey basically fought to a draw. Look for Pacquiao/Clottey to go pretty much like Pacquiao/Cotto. Anything else would be a miracle for Clottey.
@ Frankly,
FLoyd vs JMM
Floyd landed 290 of 493 (59%) – Jabs were 185 of 316 (59%)
JMM landed 69 of 583 (12%) – Jabs were 21 of 288 (7%)
This may not be a good barometer by which to gauge Floyd because he was off for 20 months, but here it is…
Also, absolutely correct that Pac is no DLH. But, I was just responding to Common Sense’s post that Floyd got hit a lot by DLH (it just isn’t true).
Also, don’t you forget that Floyd did fight DLH at his natural weight whereas Pac fought a watered-down DLH.
it is hard to beat speed. Manny will spin clottey around like he did with Oscar. With Oscar, manny was practically untouched. With cotto, he wanted to prove that he can take his power punch. But it proved fatal to his right ear. I believe he learned his lesson. Manny will circle him around. He will target his body. Once clottey lower his arms then a KO is possible. This fight will be 12 rounds of battle and the pacman will be victorious.
Tbone…., manny knows he’s opponent b4 he enter tha ring… Let’s say Marquez!! Jmm know tha manny new he had a great dfence n a great counter puncher. That’s what’s manny worried about.. What jmm did is after he counter. He re/group n attack manny with a suprise… That’s why he hit manny alot than other oppnent pacs face.. Like t tha begging of cottos fight.. Miguel did tha same thing at tha beggining… But he just got caught.. As 4 Floyd.. He got great dfence, speed , power, n good dcsion making.. He have 2 use all of that againts manny.. He can’t just wait n counter.. Or else mannys going 2 eat him alive.. Manny’s I’s all about rythim.. Head, shoulder,n footwork… All his power cums from his legs.. He had 2 go on tha distance.. N plus he’d an anorthodox..
My mistake, that’s 10 per round that DLH landed on Floyd.
this fight for pacman is a win-win situation. If pacman wins by a KO ,he will be respected even more and feared by some. If he wins by a decision in a 12 rds full of action battle, pacman will be revered by all boxing fans (except floyd and his cronies). If pacman loses, he gets a purple heart for courage to fight a warrior bigger and stronger than him. If manny pacquiao wins, his stature will be elevated even higher.
@ Common Sense,
Are you kidding? DLH landed 122 punches on Floyd at a 21% connect rate (that’s 12 per round or 4 per minute – mostly body punches that didn’t even land cleanly). The jab was only effective early in the fight because Floyd hadn’t adjusted, but perhaps Oscar stopped throwing the jab because Floyd kept that right hand in his face.
The fight with Pac would be fairly one-sided (IMO). Yes, if Pac landed then he could hurt Floyd, but isn’t that the case for all fighters who fight Floyd? It’s a lot easier to craft a strategy against Floyd than it is to implement it.
tbone, Mayweather is better than Pac, but he will lose to Pac anyway because he cannot hurt Pac. Floyd is not invincible. Even with his great defense, DLH hit him plenty in their fight. Some jabs snapped Floyd’s head back. Manny is faster and hits harder than DLH. What do you think will happen when Manny hits him?
Clottey will have to let his hands go and with a lot of precision. Pacman is goodbut he wont be good enough come Mar13.They will see a clottey they cant contain esp when they claim to have carved out a plan for him. They appear not to have made provision for plan B.Ofcourse Freddie can yap all he wants. He wont be the one fighting Josh in the ring and getting hit with thunderous shots so i wont blame him. Dont be shocked if there’s a new champion on fight night…dont be shocked at all!!!
pac will win becouse clottey does not have what it takes to be champ.Pac only fights boken fighters(OVER THE HILL ) De la Hoya ( lost last fight by KO) Hatton and Cotto. He would not fight mayweather or sugar shane. He wont call out berto or alexander. clottey now that is a safe fight. Hay pac urango just got KO is he next.
pac only fights broken down fighters, he will beat clottey. Clottey does not have what it takes to be champ. pac picks fighters he can beat. that is why he wont fight sugar shane or mayweather. he will never fight alexander or berto But clottey that is a safe fight.
Free one…what are oyu talking about? Pacquiaos perfect opponents are ones that come to him. Mayweather wont do that. Mayweather only throws one punch at a time, yes…but he does it off rhythm…so u cannot get a rhythm. manny would be caught looking, trying to figure mayweather out. as for this fight, pac will win
Good article. I fully agree that Clottey certainly can win this fight (and he will beat Pac up, even if he doesn’t win). The only concern is in his activity level because Pac may steal the fight with his flurries (he stole the wins from Marquez in both fights because of his busyness – and the knockdowns).
Also, I agree that Pac won’t hurt Clottey. Friends, many point to Pac hammering Cotto as an indication as to what will happen to Clottey. The problem with this analogy is that Cotto had been hurt in MANY previous fights against fighters who don’t punch hard but had quick hands (Corley, Torres, Judah, and Mosley to a degree).
In my experience, when fighters show a propensity to getting hurt, it’s only a matter of time.
I just hope Clottey will not be a Ricky Hatton 2, if you know what I mean. Pac right now is unbeatable, and I’m a boxing fan who does not believe in the game of luck. Boxing is about giftedness, skills, hardwork and resources all combined.
it’s hard fight for pacquiao but he will win by ud!clottey is a tough contender and a bigger fighter too!i don’t know why people are underestimating him!…he has never been ko’d,respectable win-loss record, winning against cotto, slugging it out with margarito!i know pacquiao will not take clottey lightly.
I’ll predict, it will go to a distance, Clottey won’t go down, but he will gas up, Pacquiao will win by points.!
Pac finds his rhythm after 3 rounds. Pac wins via KO around 7, or Clottey will kiss the canvas more than once but survives to lose via UD. Clottey is way past his peak and too slow. There’s just no way anybody who stands in front of Pac could last 12 rounds. Pac’s just way to fast and powerful. This is the reason Roach avoids stingers/boxers, why he picks come-forward sluggers, and the slower ones who are either over-the-hill or worn out.
Clottey in a upset. He has no pressure on him, and I think he really learned something from his “defeat” to Cotto never leave a fight in the judges hand. In a close fight there’s no way he gets a decision. Clottey has good hand speed and throws nasty body punches something no one has effectively hit Pacquaio with since moving up in weight. If Clottey fights big and pushes Pacquaio around and gets in his head i think we’ll see an upset coming. Plus with the elections rapidly approaching it seems Pacquaio has already started to walk out of boxing.
Clottey is a dangerous opponent, simply because of his size and strength, and because he’s never been knocked out. Since he’s the bigger man and the challenger – he should be doing the chasing, and not the other way around. Let’s see how he chases and pressures the Pac-Man. While he may have the courage and strength of an African lion…he should be careful how he chases the competition. He could well be walking into a trap, only to be knocked out in the later rounds. Good luck, Clottey – you’ll need lots of luck in order to win. Boxing is still about strategy and timing, not brute strength.
i like to say clottey will win this to hype up the fight..lol…but tell you wot this is pacman, he is gonna murder clottey….and maywether is next..i think clottey would be more difficult fight for pacman cos he is strong, maywether is gonna hit the canvas, mouth wide open and RIP!!!!.lol…lmfao!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think this is a tough match for Pacman but i hope he wins with a spectacular knockout, then mayweather will fear him even more than he already does.
Not only that, the only way he can stop Pacquiao is to knock him out. Clottey has a lower %KO than Cotto, and Pacquiao ate Cotto’s best shots. Pacquiao won’t kiss the mat, and Clottey doesn’t have a high enough work rate to win by points.
Clottey won’t change his fight style. Like all fighters that have been fighting for a while, they will eventually go back to their old ways. Look at Hatton, Mayweather Sr. tried to change the way he fought. At least he had a fight to practice the new strategy, and still he reverted back to his former ways against Pacquiao. It won’t change w/Clottey. It’s easy on paper, but when you’re in the ring and you’re getting flurried w/punches you can’t see, you start to go off the game plan. If Clottey can eat those punches and pull of a win, he is one scary man.
Yeah! But floyd is perfect 4 manny.. Cuzzz Floyd dont throw alot of punches… N manny luv that kind of opponent.. That makes him get his rythim N that’s mannys strenght.., evrything cums from his rythim…… Bouncing forward/backward n side 2 side..
This article says Clottey will change something. But Clottey himself said he plans on fighting like he always does, saying he will let Manny throw 30 punches to his 4. No one will lose any respect for Clottey when he loses, that is just rubbish. Clottey will still be considered the same as he is now, a solid fighter but not on the same level as the top fighters in the game. Clottey will still be there for other top welterweights to fight if they aren’t willing to get in the ring with the best.
Gavin, Roach was quoted as saying, “in order to beat Mayweather Jr. Manny would need to fight the perfect fight. 100 percent every round.”
Do you know how hard it is to do that?
Mayweather would beat Pac. Maybe even Mosley would too…
It doesnt matter how big Clottey gets Roach will find a way for Pacquiao to hurt him. With Roach in his corner Pacquiao cant lose. And he will beat Mayweather when that fight eventually comes up.
cheers wilson…is that CST?
I agree with this article, Im a filipino and I am vouching for pacman, clottey is a very dangerous man so pacman have to fight smart, pacman man has the upperhand on speed and skills, its constant in boxing that everybody can knock everyone out you just need a one well place punch, It’s always been 50/50, I wish pacman could pull this off, GO PACMAN.
Fighting Clottey is a dangerous fight for any WW. He’s determined and he has very sound skills. He comes from a dirt poor country, just like Pacman, and he has the hunger to win. I wouldn’t write Clottey off because this is the biggest fight of his career. If Pacquiao isn’t underestimating Clottey than Pac will probably win. If Pac isn’t focusing on Clottey and Clottey is fully focused than I think there may be an upset in the making.
Can’t you wait till it’s over?
this fight is desperate for any attention at all !!
CLOTTLEY K.O.
Gareth.. The premilinary fight starts at 9:00pm March 13 US time. Just compute the time difference on your part.
If Pacquiao KO Clottey. The Pacquiao/Mayweather will never happen because Mayweather will be too scared to fight him. Pacquiao by KO.
Anyone know what tie the fight will be showing (UK time if possible)?
Clottey himself has already conceded speed. His tactic is to wear Pac down, letting Pac throw 30 punches to Clottey’s 4. All Pac has to do is enough each round to outbox Clottey; he does not have to go for the KO. When Clottey is behind in rounds, he will have to force the action to win, which takes him out of his element because he likes to counterpunch. This is when Pac can go for the KO, catching Clottey coming in.
Clottey is the hungrier man who also believes he can beat Pacquiao. This will be a great fight. Alot of people actually believe Clottey beat Cotto and if you watch the fight closely or if it were on the streets you would agree. Pacquiao is good however he should stay away from Mayweather, Clottey, Mosley. These fighters have the heart with better in the ring skills that need little to no corner coaching. You will se how suspect Pacquiao is after these next few losses!
Should be a hell of a fight while it last. Well worth the money. The reason why clottley was able to last with Margarito and Cotto was because he could see their punches coming and was able to pick some of them off. I believe Manny will catch Clottey with something fast and flashy and he will recover and get back up. I can’t see Manny winning in the fashion that he beat Hatton. No way. If he does he will never get a fight with Mayweather. If Manny does not get a KO before round 8 he should back off and win on points. Trying to press for the KO will get him in trouble in the later rounds. I can’t wait.
THAT ‘L BE CLOTTLYS’ NIGHT ,PACQUIAO BEAT AN OVER THE HILL COTTO,AND RICKY HATTON HE IS GONA HAVE VERY DIFICULT TIME TO WIN THIS ONE.
COTTLY BY KO IN THE 10
We fans made a lot of predictions but nobody really knows what will happen that night. Both of them are really, really good boxers, and both of them have chances. We can´t see who is the real fighter/boxer until they fight inside the ring. The winner will be the better and lucky one that night. As long they are giving us a real fight, nobody´s running in different direction, but most of all nobody gets seriously hurt, I will be very happy just by watching in that big arena and that giant screen.
I agree with some of the above comments, but certainly not that Pacman won’t be able to hurt Clottey. He badly hurt Cotto in his last fight and to say Clottey is much stronger or more skilled than Cotto I think would be wrong. Clottey is certainly a dangerous opponent for Manny, however I can’t see Roach and Co. not bringing a winning gameplan to this fight. Either way, should be a great fight and hopefully the winner will face Mayweather when he beats Mosley on May 1st! Cheers.
Arum will KO both of them, he will win by a large margin!!
very good, very good, you are the first boxing writer the has some sense! clottys only flaw is that he slacks on training, and fades in the middle rounds. if clottly takes this serious which i hope and feel that he is,i belive that he will put pacman to sleep as well! pac man was forced into this fight, they both have the same prom. bob arum. and they all feel as tho clottly just wont show up to fight, clottly knows this is his chance, afther 3 bull st loses, he should have that chip on his shoulder, so i feel that he will be ready, even MARGARITO WITH HIS LOADED GLOVES COULDNT HURT CLOTTLY!! neither will pac mans juiced up as
i dont agree with that, paquiao will win a one sided unanimous points decision.clottey wont be to handle the speed+skillfull work+the combos
Pacquiao will end Clottey’s career. This guy is a machine nd cant loss. Pacquaio will win by and early ko, ten go on and do the same to PBF
