Pacquiao-Clottey tickets almost sold out – only 300 remaining!

By Eric Thomas: ESPN is reporting that there are only 300 tickets remaining for this Saturday night’s clash between Manny Pacquiao and Joshua Clottey at the Dallas Cowboy Stadium. There are 45,000 tickets seats that have been made available for the fight, and there are only 300 remaining. The stadium fits 80,000 for football events and 100,000 for a boxing match, such as Floyd Mayweather vs. Pacquiao.

Obviously, the numbers would be much better if Pacquiao had a popular opponent to face in this fight, but his team had to grab Clottey as a hasty replacement after negotiations with Mayweather failed to work out. The welterweight division being what it is there really aren’t any fighters that Pacquiao’s promotional team Top Rank could have selected besides Mayweather or Shane Mosley that would have been able to possibly sell out the stadium.

Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboy football team, put seven million of his own money into this fight for a site fee. With 45,000 fans purchasing tickets, he will be able to make a profit for this venture. It’s a good thing too because if he loses money on this it could cause him to be cautious about wanting to take further risks in the future when setting up boxing events.

45,000 is a good number for a fight that has only one recognizable fighter. Pacquiao is essentially the only draw on this entire card, because the undercard is stacked with mostly prospects, old fighters or guys that are more 2nd tier. It’s a rather disappointing undercard, but fans who purchase tickets for this event are coming to see Pacquiao and don’t care whether the undercard stinks or not.

This number shows how popular Pacquiao has become in such a short time. If this fight had taken place a couple of years ago before Pacquiao had fought Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto, he would be lucky to get more 10,000.

Pacquiao wasn’t well known in the United States other than by hardcore fans. Now, however, he’s become huge and what’s sad about it is that he’s right at the end of his career. He plans on running for congress in the Philippines and if he wins, it could be it for him. Besides that, his trainer Freddie Roach is eager for Pacquiao to hang up the gloves after one more fight, hopefully against Mayweather.

It’s too bad it took Pacquiao so long to become this popular. If he had become a huge star years ago, there’s no telling the kinds of numbers he could bring in with each PPV event. He would be selling huge stadiums all the time no matter how poor his opponent.

Pacman is the real deal especially when he is connected (www.nacionalista.org). Yahooo… PAcky boy GO!

    @ Lex_fugitive aka leaks_furtivetalk,

Why is it that the people who belittle Pacquiao`s achievements the most just happen to be (like you) Mayweather`s most ardent fans.

    Is that just coincidence?

Or is there something deeper lurking there?

Personally I think that Mayweather is the most talented boxer of his generation. Nature seemed to give him everything, from a comfortable, boxing rich backround, to all the necessary physical and mental abilities that a boxer could dream of. The fact that some of his family wealth came from drug dealing does not really come into who Floyd Jr is. It`s just a fact.

    Or is it?

Easy come easy go (like most of Floyd`s previous earnings) is a mentality born of doing little for big gains.

Some people never had it that easy. Pacquiao, for example, had to fight his own way through life just to be able to earn enough for him to be able to feed his family. I don`t suppose that could possibly make the man somewhat tougher than upper middle class Floyd, could it?

Did you go to school, Lex?

Who used to be the bullies in those days? Was it the kids from comfortable backrounds or the poorer tough-nuts? in my scool the less well off often had something which the richer kids did not have. A different drive. A more basic set of rules. A more live and let die outlook. It`s just he way things are. Neither you nor Floyd can change that.

Is it so hard to understand that a man who has had to fight for every almost crumb he has ever had might be a hard guy to put down (trash talking aside)?

And, come to think of it, your idol Floyd does have two serious defects as a boxer; his left and right hands. Sadly for Floyd nature gave him almost everything except good hands. His brittle little hands just shatter at first contact. So delicAte are they that he has to use DRUGS to be even able to fight. That`s all fine so long as he does not have to venture outside the State of Nevada where Zylocaine is, unlike every other State, legal. This explains why Schafer didn`t even turn up for his rendez vous with Arum to examine the Dallas venue. (only 25 MILLION dollars on the table) (another 25 million dollar question for Floyd fans)

But back to my original question: why do Floyd`s fans constantly try to belittle Manny?

You know as well as I do. Deep inside you you know that if Floyd ever stepped into the ring with Manny, even with stringent drug tests, including drugs like Zylocaine of course, the poor little rich kid just wouldn`t stand a chance against a MAN who has earned his place in boxing and in the hearts of millions of decent people.

Incidently, as this fight will never take place, Floyd haters need not worry: Manny may never get the chance to destroy Floyd, Floyd will destroy himself anyway.

Thus is the nature of the beast!

ryan dunne@ are you a dopey dude or what…. when pac /clotty got done bob arum in an interview said jerry jones had already agreed to purchase 30.000 tickets. arum has had trouble selling the remainder 15.000 ha ha ha. enjoy clotty breaking out of his shell and knocking fat head tfo.

  • Ryan Dunn says:

    @lex

Can you provide some proof to the rumor of Jerry Jones buying $30,000 in tickets? So far I haven’t seen any evidence to support this, just wild Floydian Conspiracy Theories™.

Also, re: Manny Hate™…. let it go man. Blow that sh\t out.

    Simon;
I just corrected this article. This article is about how there are only 300 tickets left when there were well over a thousand at the time. I had never said that before. But if it makes u feel better to lie, than go ahead. Its alright with me. Or you can go and actually see how many tickets are left where they sell tickets. I’ve also never mentioned that Pacquiao has had over 10,000 in attendance for numerous of his fights before. You can say I’ve said this before, but please show me where I’ve said either of those two before, and you can actually check the facts for yourself. But I realize its hard to comprehend the difference between words to some, they all have so many letters!!! But show me where I’ve said those two things before, please. I realize you don’t like the FACTS, and that I state them, so you simply resort to an ad hominem attack based on pure lies. Nice try though.

  • Simon says:

If Floyd and his followers keep on insisting for urine, blood and other type of tests, I will advice money just to give them his BRIEF. It has “everything” on it. I’m sure also all the Pac haters will be happy because now, Manny subscribes to their stupid demands.

lex_F – As I said before, you’re a BROKEN RECORD, repeating what you’ve always said. Time to say something new and worthwhile.

  • JesusJones says:

    @ Gary

No. Floyd would be so scared that Manny agreed so he decided to turn himself in to Vegas PD just to avoid the fight.

  • boxing fan says:

stfu pachaters!you cannot put a good man down!

  • Realbox says:

In other news, real boxing fans fail to care a single bit about this boring ass match.

How can it be exciting if he is fighting his last opponent’s victim?…

  • left hook says:

Ha ha Clottey looks like he has a man-gina in this picture

  • Gary says:

if the pacman agrees to all of floyd’s demands ( purse split, random tests ad nauseum), do you think floyd will sign?

  • JesusJones says:

Lets just pretend that Pacquiao defeats Clottey and not only defeats him but TKO or makes him quit or plain old stoppage.

If this happens and Floyd wins against Mosley, then we are surely never going to see a Manny VS Floyd.

That’s plain fact. You can bet your house and kids on it.

  • totoybato says:

Pacquiao haters! give Pacman a break, until now you guys can’t accept the truth . Pacman earned what he has now from hard work and dedication to boxing so plsssssssss stop hating the guy.

  • Big Moe says:

Yeah…uhh..okay…try 1,141 tickets remaining. while the mayweather-mosley fight has 761 left. Its amazing..Bob Arum said there where 4 to 5000 tickets left and a days time its down to 1000 something tickets? I know what happened….cough cough…jerry jones…cough cough…bought more tickets…arum will ahve to pay him back….cough cough..

  • Reidj says:

If this writer thinks Manny and Mayweather can sell out a 100,000 seat stadium he is crazy. That’s Wrestlemania type numbers their. The promotors would have to make at least 3 marque fights to do those numbers. Manny could sell 100,000 tickets in his country. It would be great to see him fight his last bout in the Philippines. When he does retires he will be missed.

  • SmoovOne says:

Also PIC, there was no one really worth fighting, so Pac had to fight them. But had he fought them when they were still good, he would get props from TRUE boxing fans.

Mayweather fought DLH at 154 and no catchweight and fought Ricky Hatton, when Hatton was on top and un-defeated. So that is why Pac is getting the *asterick* for those fights. DLH was drained to make 147, so Pac gets no props for those fights.

Many true fans believe that this is Pac’s first real welterweight fight against Clottey. Well see how he does. If he wins, then he will be given credit for this one, but very little, since Clottey lost to Cotto and Pac just beat a drained Cotto.

  • SmoovOne says:

@PIC. Pac got those awards, but there should be an *asterick* by them, because of the fact that Pac has fought weight-drained has-beens.

  • SmoovOne says:

LOL…yeah I checked StubHUB too. There are 1000′s of seats still available, including those ridiculously price $8336.00 suite tickets. There are also mezzanine seating available for like $62.00.

  • loomis says:

is klitchtko more popular than pacman because he,s fighting chambers in front of an 50.000 crowd lol with pacman clotty, jerry jones bought 30.000 tickets to promote his stadium did he sell them or give them away for free to the pactards and other pinoys who know damn all about boxing lol.

  • char says:

if pac vs unknown boxer can sell 1.5M PPV’s and floyd vs mosley, two well-known fighters, can sell 3M PPV’s. then no doubt, pac is a PPV draw. i would be laughing if floyd-mosley will only sell 2M or less.

  • Anonymous says:

    At wow

Stop cryin about the undercard so hasn’t been a good undercard for years why start hatin now!! Get use to sucky undercards the main event is wat sells

  • Anonymous says:

When espn reports it means its true!!!

  • Pic says:

Many Pac haters continue to downplay his achievements by insisting that the top boxers that he has defeated were weight-drained, faded, shot, old, etc. If Pacquiao is really that over-rated then why would the Boxing Writers Association of America vote him as the boxer of the decade and boxer of the year 2009 (his 3rd)? Why would Ring Magazine (owned by dela Hoya), Yahoo, and other boxing publications vote his as the No. 1 P4P boxer? Are all of these people part of the conspirators who have built up Pacquiao to the top of the boxing world? Pac haters better answer these questions or lose their credibility!

  • Manong Tagacebu says:

3M PPV buys? Not likely. :( But that fight will show respectable buys.

  • Free one says:

    Evrythang tha Joe n sai say’s is a fact…

  • lex_fugitive says:

Only 300 remaining, huh? That’s kinda weird since ticketnetonline has more than 1,000 tickets available and is a direct seller, not a resell site. Plus there are thousands and thousands more available on resell sites such as Stubhub and Ticket liquidator. The fact is Jerry Jones spent $30k on tickets already and there is still well over a thousand tickets not sold plus at least several thousand people are trying to resell for a profit. I have a feeling many online scalpers are going to be left with tickets and that Bob Arum is going to have to pay Jerry Jones back at least some of that $30k if not all of it. There are several thousand seats, at the least, fans can still buy.

  • lex_fugitive says:

    Simon;
3 million PPV buys? LMAO, wow some Pacfans really are delusional. I don’t know of any African or Asian country that will even show this on PPV and Pacquiao’s numbers in the UK against Hatton were pretty poor. Also, with Jones laying down $30,000 on tickets himself the real sales are unknown. And what is this guy talking about Pacquiao couldn’t get over 10,000 before ODLH. He got more than that NUMEROUS times before! Hell, Cotto had huge attendance in a few of his fights at Madison Square Garden. And Pacquiao could have been a PPV star much earlier if he had taken on the toughest competition. When you stick to fighting opponents who lost previous fight against a top level guy, it doesn’t help. Besides Barrera and both fights with Marquez who else has Manny ever faced who had won the last time they were matched up against an A level fighter??? Thats why he never became a big PPV guy before, but Top Rank has done a great job of very carefully cherry-picking his opponents and hyping him up. And now that fans are demanding he face Mayweather or Mosley he wants to retire. He really should retire without facing either one, because if he does, he will be painfully exposed as the one-dimesional cherry-picker fighter that he is, that would never have stood a chance against either one. Losing a lop-sided decision or getting knocked out many would realize since his loss to Morales, the only top fighter he faced was Marquez and most felt he lost that. Then getting badly beaten again would highlight his two knockout losses, his decision loss to a much faded Morales, and both fights with Marquez where he struggled mightily. But if he retires after Clottey, many will forget how bad all of his opponents had looked in their previous fights before facing Manny, and the fights he struggled in.

  • joe says:

i think it’s too bad for the people in north america who do not witness the rise of young pacquiao. i’ve seen pacquiao knocking out people on the show called “mano-mano pro boxing” when i was living in the philippines. from the start he has the ability to fight his opponent toe-to-toe, which is always exciting to watch. it’s hard for a fighter coming from a third world country to get a big break in north america or international scene. nonetheless, i won’t be disappointed if pacquiao decided to retire after this fight if mayweather chose not to get in the ring wth pacquiao.

  • Sai says:

With this avalanche of fans Manny have had there’s no arguing who’s the best there is.

And others can’t help but wonder, how in the world a Filipino can draw this much in a foreign country.

  • wowzabean says:

Ya this undercard sucks. Nonetheless 45k w/no good undercard and an unknown fighter. Jones won’t lose money, you have to take concessions into consideration, this guy will be in the black, trust me.

  • rat-a-too says:

I want to know more about that super huge foot ball field size high definition screen,. its one of a kind.seen pictures ,and if its a true h.d screen its a better resolution than even a theater more like imax. anyway cant wait ,4 day to go.

  • Simon says:

This fight will go down as the “most in attendance” boxing fight of the decade. And it’s not even Saturday yet, a possible 10000 more tickets can be sold. No doubt, PPV will do even much better, possibly 3M buys. Together, Asia and Africa will be on top of the world.
