Pacquiao-Clottey predictions: Clottey, Soto, Medina and Gomez will win

By Esteban Garduno: Tonight’s fight at the Dallas Cowboy Stadium is mostly filled with mismatches of the worst kind. On paper, the bout between Joshua Clottey and Manny Pacquiao figures to be an easy win for Pacquiao over a limited Clottey, but I see Clottey pulling off a huge upset over Pacquiao tonight to spoil Manny’s party. Clottey will stay in Pacquiao’s face, make him work harder than he has in ages, take his shots and punish the Filipino. Pacquiao has become accustomed to beating up on over-matched opponents and Clottey isn’t going to go down like the other guys that have been fed to Pacquiao in the past two years.

Once Pacquiao finds that he’s not able to take Clottey out, it’s going to dawn on him that he bit off more than he can chew in this fight and will start running. Unfortunately, the running won’t work for Pacquiao, because Clottey will chase Pacquiao down and punish him with hard shots to the head and body, busting him up early.

Once Pacquiao starts to bleed badly from the face, he will come unglued and start showing concern for his cut like he did in his first fight with Erik Morales in 2005. Instead of ignoring the cut and fighting all out, Pacquiao will dab at the cut over and over again, as if checking on it will make things better for him. It won’t. In the meantime, Clottey will continue to drill Pacquiao with hard shots, hitting him harder than any other fighter has during Pacquiao’s long career in the ring.

Pacquiao will probably wish that he hadn’t moved up in weight to take on the bigger fighters, because Clottey is going to make him sorry for having moved up. Pacquiao will finally be shown the light for having stepped it up against the bigger fighters. Clottey, who will outweigh Pacquiao by at least 10 to 15 pounds tonight, will likely batter Pacquiao like a school child, beating the stuffing out of him for 12 rounds. Pacquiao will stick it out to the bloody end, but will end up losing badly to Clottey.

Prediction: Clottey by 12 round decision.

***

In the other fights on the card, look for middleweight John Duddy (28-1, 18 KO’s) to get beaten by Mexican Michael Medina by a 10 round decision and suffer his 2nd defeat of his career. Duddy is a limited brawler with little power and zero defense. Medina isn’t much better, but probably more than good enough to give Duddy his second loss.

Prediction: 10 round decision win for Medina.

***

Alfonzo Gomez should have more than enough to defeat an old 36-year-old Jose Luis Castillo (60-9-1, 52 KO’s) by a 10 round decision. Castillo has no business fighting at welterweight and hasn’t looked good in over five years. Gomez will beat him but prove nothing in doing so. Gomez is a contender, gate keeper fighter, but not a future champion. Castillo needs to retire.

Prediction: Lopsided 10 round decision for Gomez.

***

Lightweight Humberto Soto will destroy David Diaz. This won’t be a fight. This is a bad match up in view, because Diaz is a brawler in the Duddy mold but without the power or the skills to compete with a talented fighter like Soto.

Prediction: 6th round TKO win for Soto.

***

As for the other fights on the card, none of them are worth mentioning.

Turns out you were 50% right. Hahaha!

Oh and all those fights not worth mentioning ended with KO’s and TKO’s.

    Don’t quit your dayjob!

I, too, after having read Garduno’s prediction felt that it was intentionally biased to create controversy. There is even a tone of angst in his writing for the dynamic duo of Pacman & Freddy Roach. There is nothing wrong with having a bad opinion and writing about it, but when you interject bad emotion you really turn off many readers. I am a boxing fan that enjoys good fights. Pacman always puts on a good show as he is very vulnerable and looking for a brawl. I believe Clottey has all of the tools and would have stood a good chance at winning the fight had he been willing to get knocked out – which is what it will take to beat Manny these days. Manny will never back down from a brawl, and all Clottey had to do was let go of his hands and it would have been ‘game-on’! This is what the fans want an it’s surely the only way Clottey stood a chance of winning the fight anyway. Instead, we got 12 rounds of the tortoise and the hare. I can still see Clottey talking to himself – “Slow and steady…..duhhhhhhhh…..wins the race”. Yeah, keep telling yourself that buddy.

Best odds on a candidate that has a fighting chance at beating Pacman…? My pick is Andre Berto. Mosley wouldn’t be a bad choice either. Both are fast, and certainly willing to let the gaurd down and participate in an all-out brawl. That’s where Manny will be hit and hit well and potentially beaten. Don’t believe me..? Ask Morales, Marquez, and Barrera.

You’d probably make more money if you’ll introduce yourself as Nostradamus’s descendant and bring along your “crystal ball” as my crystal ball told me you’ll be banned in making sports predictions.

  • Bert R says:

This website has some of the worst boxing so called experts in the world, you guys need to get some better people on here. Seems all these “experts” no nothing about the sport and they always seem to make predictions about fights and they seem to not know anything about the fighters and their styles. I used to come in here and enjoyed reading all these posts but as of late they keep getting worse and worse.

I bet your next article is going to say that Pacquiao handpicked a loser, and that he never was going to lose. Do you really get paid to do this?

  • Foxy says:

Pacman won by a landslide. Your predictions suck!

  • Fight Fan says:

    Landslide victory for the Pacman.

  • BIG G says:

1 fight in and your one down already duddny wins…….clown

  • Shadow says:

“As for the other fights on the card, none of them are worth mentioning.”

Wow that’s really uplifting for up and coming fighters. This has got to be the worst boxing news site in history for publishing rubbish articles by the likes of you and Lahr. That is if you aren’t the same person. Shame on you for calling yourself a boxing writer!

By the way you’re first prediction of the night is wrong. Let’s see how the other fight go Mr. Expert.

  • rat-a-too says:

pac and roach train differently, nobody train that way.the fight has already been won in training close to 100 rounds w/different sparing partner non stop .now its the strategy of the rounds and mental preparation as seening punches and avoiding and opening, letting go
will come naturally in a split second.
his unreal hard training is what make the pacman and to some its seems like roids
he tough, and the fight was won in training.

  • LuvBoxing says:

I think I posted on the other thread, but I am taking Pac in a decision. I do not see Clottey getting KO’d.

  • x-man says:

speaking about purposely forgetting, remember the afternoon of pac fight with cotto ,mosley announce that the postponement is off and he will fight berta in feb.he copyed
floyd as floyd did the same thing on the afternoon of hatten fight he announced he fight marq. funny we all forget it.
but its was sneaky planed that way.

  • x-man says:

pac still has to prove himself again, and tonight the night, prove who sharper and a good as boxer as a slugger. pac in terrific shape I see a ko,lets see.

  • Nam Cap says:

Sorry to say this but this is going to be Clottey’s first knock out if not TKO

  • coyney says:

what you gonna say when Duddy blows this guy away?

  • wowzabean says:

Alright, I’m going to give my official prediction. I don’t think Manny will get a KO, I’d put him at a 12 round UD, but f*ck it.

    Manny by TKO Round 11.

  • Frank says:

Clottey good for first five rounds and then run out of gas. Pacquiao freaking too fast and accurate, coming from all angles with bombs. Manny wins by TKO provided if he could avoid Clottey’s head butts.

  • owenspud says:

    you have no business writing!

  • PAULITA says:

    Manuel Perez,is that you!!!!

  • peter says:

pacquiao beat a dehydrated De La Hoya,a no defence Hatton,a stot Cotto. Now it’s time to fight. Clottey in Ten.

  • chris says:

Im not buying this one sided fight . I watched some of clotteys old fights and he gets hit alot. Pac is too fast for him.

  • BIG G says:

pac man wins easy thats my prediction

  • frds says:

this BS bias article! what a crap!

  • Simon says:

Esteban Williams-your prediction is tainted with ignorance and bias but most of all going against the natural flow of nature. But hey, I give you the benefit of the doubt for your wild imaginations. Will see what more can you write about Pac after tonights fight.

  • gard says:

Anything can happen! It will be a good fight.

  • Tweezy316 says:

Watching Pacquiao taking a beating is ALMOST worth buying the fight. But not quite
