Pacquiao-Clottey: How can 45,000 be a sellout when the stadium holds 80,000?
By Dave Lahr: What I don’t understand is how the Manny Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey fight be called almost a sellout at 45,000 when the Dallas Cowboy stadium holds 80,000? What is it that? I know the stadium was retrofitted to fit 45,000 fans, but they keep saying that they can easily adjust it to fit even more fans at a moment’s notice, so how does that make it a sell out if it reaches 45,000? Is it me or does that just seem like some gimmick that they’re using to brag about and make it seem like the stadium is sold out when in fact it’s not.
That just makes me not trust any of the numbers. Whatever the amount of tickets that do eventually get sold for the Pacquiao vs. Clottey fight, I don’t expect it to be anywhere close to 80,000 fans, and I’m now thinking that it won’t even get to 45,000 either. My guess is that it will be lucky to bring in 30,000 fans, which will seem kind of ridiculous in a huge stadium like the Dallas Cowboy Stadium.
This is just hype for a fight that doesn’t have two stars. I think they wasted the stadium on this fight. They could have easily fit the same amount of people that will be attending the fight in the MGM Grand by putting in outside seats. This is like way overboard for a fight that isn’t that big of a deal.
You got to have to an opposing big star if you want to fight in a huge stadium like that. In this case, it’s just Pacquiao versus some guy that nobody has heard of except for hardcore boxing fans. And what makes this even worse is that Clottey lost his last fight. How does that look? Pacquiao just finished fighting Miguel Cotto, who was had recently been torn apart by Antonio Margarito.
Pacquiao also fought Ricky Hatton, who also was beaten up and taken out not long before he faced Pacquiao. Oscar De La Hoya, another Pacquiao victim, had lost three out of his last six fights going into his bout with Pacquiao. What is up with that? Is boxing so bad off that those guys have to be selected as Pacquiao’s opponents? Why not Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Shane Mosley? Don’t tell me. I already know.
But as far the Pacquiao-Clottey fight being called a sell out if 45,000 tickets being sold, I think that’s the silliest thing I’ve heard before, because the stadium holds twice that total. If you have a stadium that you can retrofit at a moment’s notice to fit any number up to 80,000, it’s ludicrous to call it a sell out when they’ll keep selling tickets up until 80,000 tickets are sold. I mean they’re not going stop selling tickets when 45,000 tickets have been sold, are they? Of course not, which is why it’s crazy to say the fight is nearly a sellout.

Just don’t understand what your griping about! It doesn’t matter if the stadium is sold out or not. Just pay attention to the money the fight is bringing in to Dallas. It could have been bigger if big mouth Mayweather did not withdrew from the fight. Remember, his ringside alias is “pretty boy”. One thing for sure. He won’t be pretty after the fight! Remember the golden boy?
Dave,
You are sooo smart. As smart as Floyd. Do you have fake money
too?
first day 20,000 tickets sold. wow big numbers. turns out jerey jones owner of cowboys bought 30,000 dollers worth of tickets on that day. if aburm does not sell those tickets he has to pay jones back with revenue from the fight. to make it worse tickets only range from 50 dollers to 700 dollers. flyd mosley fight is in a 17,000 doller seating area yet they will actually make more money from ticket sales then clottey manny since there tickets range from 332 to 16,000 dollers. big differance. all hype this week is about floyd mosley. it will be the same next week. clottey manny is a dead fight. i guess thats the reason mosley is making double what manny and clottey are combined. floyd to make 40 mill off this fight. he sais he will make what he would have off manny fight in two fights. guess manny isnt as big a star as we thought.
@Preston
well you might be right, we shall see.. because I will admit that I honestly know nothing about Clottey, and as for Pac’s singing career I definitely agree! lol!
@K
touché!
@Slimm
And I quote.. “The Mayweather camp wanted random blood testing by the United States Anti-Doping Agency, whereas Pacquiao refused to have any blood testing within 30 days from the fight, because he thought it would weaken him, but he was willing to have blood taken from him before the 30-day window as well as immediately after the fight. Freddie Roach, on the other hand, commented that he would allow blood to be taken from Pacquiao one week before the fight.” GMANews.TV and Los Angeles Times. 22 December 2009.
What does the first sentence say? Wow you’re a genius! I admit I guess I’m just ignorant when it comes to drugs, and you seem to be the expert!
Oh and yeah the white rice thing was a sarcastic rhetorical comment, and for you to even say something about it makes you dumber than how dumb you think I am..
Owned? Seriously kid.. how old are you?
Fair enough Preston
Haku313.. Is a real bum. No job asking money on the streets.
According to the Cowboys, only 30,000 tickets have been purchased to date; Arum says they’re on target to sell 45,000. They expect to sell 15,000 in less than two weeks. And, correct me if I’m wrong, wasn’t there hype about 20,000 tickets being sold on the first day of availability???
There is no buzz for this fight, ZERO. I’ve seen nothing on ESPN/SportsCenter, ZERO. Not good Pactards!!!
Mayweather doesn’t deserve a fight with Pacquiao. I guess Pacquiao doesn’t give a $hit about the potential earnings. There is so much animosity inflicted by Mayweathers in the Pac family because of all the trash talks and defamation. Pacquiao to my opinion would rather ignore the money with Mayweather fight. He would rather push for the law suit. And that’s the fight Mayweather deserves with Pacquiao.
speed beats power, and timing beats speed.
Red- it is not just the floyd fans who are questioning Clottey, which I sated CLEARLY in my post that I am looking forward to this fight,a nd I give Clottey much more credit than a lot of people…..die-hard Floyd fans as well as die-hard Pac fans, but Freddie Roach has done the most damage in discounting Clottey himself by saying that Clottey is “not that good”, and Manny will knock him out…..which is a feat that none of Clotteys previous opponents have managed to do. And I was making a point about Cotto boxing Manny and making him look bad until Cotto elected to slug it out with Manny……..I dont understand how you can read what I wrote in entirety ,and just pull that statement out of it and respond to it like you did……..I think I made myself crystal clear on what I was saying. And again, in terms of mocking Manny, I CLEARLY give Manny his due credit for some of the things that he is able to do in the ring……I also just gave my personal opinion on what I perceive to be his flaws…….what was soo wrong or hard to understand about ANYTHING that I said
@Slimmm
These internet drug experts make me laugh, are you a forensic scientist or chemical engineer? OR you just say what read from the media?
AT exactly 23 days 23 hrs the drugs will disappear in your system, Hmmmm I’m in awe :0
@Preston
The Pacfans are saying from the start that this is gonna be toughest fight for Manny, it’s the Floyd fans are the ones questioning why Manny has choosen the B class fighter which is Clottey calling Manny a cherry picker!
Manny looking bad at the first rounds doesn’t count, it’s the end of the fight does. Why bring up this? Looking to mock Manny?
blaster- and yeah Pac gave a concert after the Cotto fight, but did you see his face and his head after the fight???? Or even worse than that, have you ever heard Pacquiao sing???…lololol. Was he actually giving a concert, or auditioning to play the part of Freddie Krueger????………..lololo….no disrepect to Pac, but concerning his singing career…..he difinately will NOT be the next American Idol.
Blaster- I can see your point…….Pac, without question has very good hand speed, but Clottey’s defense coupled with his own hand speed, which you cannot discount, is something that Pac will have to reckon with himself. Overall, Clottey will possess the best defense that Pac has ever faced, and probaly the toughest opponent that Pac has faced outside of JMM……I guess there is not much more to say until the day after fight night, and regardless of the outcome, I dont want to hear any excuses from Clottey, or Pac…….whoever wins this fight will deserve their due credit from both sides of the fence. And let me say that this will be the first time that I have ever rooted for Pac’s opponent……..whom I feel has been completely overlooked and taken waaay too lighly by the Pac fans.
P.S. and concerning Miguel Cotto….I do acknowlegde and remember that Pac said that he wanted to “taste” Cotto’s power to feel him out……..and that is basically when Pac covered up and just let Cotto bang at his head and body………i get that….but that is not what I was talking about when I made the comment about Cotto boxing Pac and making him look bad. I am talking about when Pac was throwing punches and Cotto electing to use his superior boxing skills to dictate the fight. Miguel Cotto clearly did that in the first few rounds of the fight….and Pac didnt look like he had an answer, but Cotto quickly deviated from that by trying to engage in a slugfest with Pac……..and that is when Pac took things over…….I do not see Joshua Clottey making taht same mistake, who has gone on record to say that if Pac beats him like he has done with his recent opponents, then he might start thinking suspicious things of him too.
@Blaster 261
It’s clearly not white rice, are you not aware of the nutritinal content???
You are unaware of the difference of a random blood test and one after the fight, isn’t it obvious, even to a deluded pactard like yourself… (ITS NOT RANDOM!!!!)
steroid cycles can last for 24 days followed by a 5-7 day flushing period, thats why. Dont’ run your big mouth telling people to read up and get there fats straight, your about as ignorant at a goat.
Consider your ass officially OWNED
@Haku313
If Pacman is overrated why did people say Yuri Foreman is no match to him? Clottey will be dominated by him? Why people insist Valero to him? Why people are saying no other welterweight boxer matches him except Mayweather? If he fights other than Floyd means he’s cherry picking? Because people know what’s the Pacman capable of. Not overrated just simply giving credit where it’s due.
money is afraid of pacman..mayweather is always talk and talk..face the truth that the pacman is greatest boxer ever..
@haku313, if Floyd “dominated” DLH, why did he only win a split decision. One judge gave the fight to DLH. And why did FLoyd turn down megabucks and retire rather than face DLH in a rematch?
MP is box office he is the most reliable Pay day in Boxing for promoters and other fighters He enterains when he FIGHTS unlike FMjr MP is a beautiful little guy who the fans LOVE
Oh and one more thing.. After the Cotto fight, Pacquiao went to a concert party where in it he sang 8 songs to further entertain his fans, where as Cotto went to the trauma center of the nearest hospital. Do not under estimate Pac’s power ^_*
what can i say? the writer is playing stupid…twisted! top rank w/ jerry jones NEVER said they gona fill in the whole stadium, but ONLY said they’ll gona have 40K SITS for the fight! now, if they meet the number or surpass it! then, that’s a sell out…
in math, 45000/40000 = 1.13 or equals to 113% of attendance would be in THE dallas cowboy stadium! simply it’s a sold out…
but anywys, the writer is playing dumb! so it’s all useless…
@Haku “Pacquiao has 46 wins over absolute BUMS! FACT!
Pacquaio was knocked out by two BUMS! FACT! ”
so going by your logic.. Pacquiao himself is a washed up BUM.. therefore it’s all good.. washed up bums beating other washed up bums right?
@preston
“Miguel Cotto, when he actually used his boxing skills in the first 2 rounds made Pac look bad and ordinary…..and I thought that Cotto was going to take Pac apart…”
Well said my friend, but i fair to disagree.. Did you watch the Post fight interview with Pacquiao? He said.. “I was testing his power the first 2 rounds” Even Roach said the same thing later on. So basically he was letting Cotto hit him and even admitted that he hits hard.. That there just tells you something.. How many fighters out there do you know would do that?
Yeah true his balance is off, but that’s the whole beauty of his style.. the unpredictability of where his next punches will come from.. After his fights the most clichE thing that his opponents always say is “He’s just too fast” or “I couldn’t see his punches coming.”
Pacquiao no defense? His chin does all the defensive work.. hahaha j/k.. He does have defense if you watch the fights again.. It’s just not the defense you’re accustomed to. He’s impatient and he counters right away, but it’s there. Ultimately, my counter argument for you is something what my mentor used to always say to me.. “speed always win vs power”.. you can’t stop what you can’t catch my friend. In 10 days we will find out.. PEACE!
Dallas comboy gate tickets won’t matter as PPV is the determining factor for a GOOD sell.
Mayweather aka Moneyweather picked Mosley to outsell Pac-Clot fight. Plain and simple.
Can we see Pac-Money in the future? I don’t think so. Moneyweather won’t accept a 50/50 deal anymore and he will demand at least 60/40 for claiming as PPV king. Pac, a proud man won’t accept 40% only. So, no Pac-Money duel is DEAD.
Haku313 just so you know…how do you know those boxers that pacquiao were all bums? is it because they do not fight here in america? thats a bit condescending bro! do you even know who these fighters were? and how do you know that barrera and morales were washed up when pacquiao fought them? you say that hatton was washed up when he fought pacquiao, remember pacquiao fought him at 140 lbs. which was hatton’s ideal weight. when hatton fought mayweather, hatton has to come up to 147, which by the way mayweather also ask marquez to come up in weight. when hatton lost to mayweather you assumed that he was not washed up at that staged…now tell me how you came up with that conclusion mr boxing expert?
hey haku313 !!! are you saying you are a beter informed person than the staf of the ring magazine? how come they don’t think pacquiao is over rated? get real haku…don’t try to be another wannabee know it all boxing expert!!!
@ haku: if pacquiao is not all that then why mayweather need to accuse the kid about using ped’s. Why not floyd just fight this kid and show to the world what he truly is. Mayweather doesn’t need to mess with catch weight, he’s not drained or washed up and a true welter weight. If “fact” floyd is not flawed in any kinna way. It should be easy fight for him. So wuz up with all that?
@Haku: Set your facts straight, Pac fought Barrera twice and Morales 3x. He also lost one to Morales, he didn’t win all 3 fights with Morales. You keep saying facts but its obvious you dont know much of Pac’s history, keep on hating biyatch.
@BenTheMan says:
March 2, 2010 at 12:17 am
WHAT DO YOU EXPECT. PHILIPPINES IS SUCH A SMALL ISLAND.
@BenTheMan says:
March 2, 2010 at 12:15 am
THERE’S ONLY 45,000 FILIPINO’S IN THIS WORLD…THATS WHY THEY SAY ITS A SELLOUT.
These statements tells the whole world that YOU are and IDIOT, BenTheMan.
The Philippines is composed of 7,101 islands. And there are 92M Filipinos.
Haku.. How could Pacquiao be overrated? He’s 7 weight division champion the only one. Name anybody who won 7 weight division. NONE. He was declared a Fighter of the decade and Fighter of the year. You’re just trap with your fantasy and claiming it a facts. bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. You talked like 10 year boy.
One more thing though. Theres another article on here entitled “Legends of Yesteryear”. Two fighters are mentioned in the article (Morales and Barrera) that the overrated one called “pacman” made a name off of by fighting them both a combined six times. LOL….. more FACTS just keep popping up! anyway, God Bless You All….
@ haku: if pacman is not all that, then why oh why mayweather needed to accuse the kid of using ped’s? Why not just take the bout as is and be done with it?
Haku.. What facts your talking about? You’re contradicting yourself. Read Ryan Dunn comments and that’s make more sense than your argument. You got fantasy not facts. You need to wake up.
@haku: if PAC is not all that then what’s up with all that ped’s accusation? Why not fight this kid and be done with it?
@haku: I see your point and does sound valid, how ever, if manny pacquaio is not all “that” then why mayweather doesn’t want fight this kid? I mean you’re smart and mayweather claims he’s smart then it should be obvious that it’s A easy fight to take. Whats up with all this ped’s accusation for?
@ haku
the FACT is,floyd did not dominate over oscar at all. another FACT is pacquiao resume is far better than mayweather. thats the FACT. LMAO
haku.. you’re just contradicting yourself. You need to wake up from your nightmare.
dave lahr’s tomorrow article will back up mayweathers accusation about military experiment drugs that pacquiao is using thats makes him bulletproof,strong and faster. actually dave will say pacman is not human, he is a member of “X-MEN” the same of “WOLVERINE”. LOL.
Dave Lahr, Haku313 and KFC are all obsessed with Pacquiao. Everytime they write and talk, they are all about Pacquiao.
Blaster- You are right about people saying that guys like ODH and Cotto were too big for Pac……and likewise with Clottey. But Clottey has several favorable factors going for him that the other fighters that Pac fought didnt have have for them. Number 1 is wear and tear…….Clottey unlike ODH, Hatton or Cotto has never been Ko’ed or much less dominated by anyone, and I dont see him getting dominated or KO’ed by Pac……..Pac, being the more active fighter can outscore Clottey and win by decision though. Number 2 is that Clottey (and these are his words, not mine) will not be weak from draining his body to fight at a catchweight like the others, and he is confident that he well enter the ring at his strongest. Number 3…..Pac-man is not a fluke….his punching power is very real and cannot be underestimated. ODH, Hatton, and Cotto being the bigger fighters, all underestimated Pac’s power and elected to fight Pac’s fight and not theirs. Miguel Cotto, when he actually used his boxing skills in the first 2 rounds made Pac look bad and ordinary…..and I thought that Cotto was going to take Pac apart…..but when Cotto deveated from that style and decided to slug it out with the smaller guy, and impose his will on Pac…..he paid for it severly. Clottey is not that type of fighter, and he prides himself on defense, just as much as Floyd Mayweather, and I highly doubt that he is going to make the same mistake in trying to slug it out with Pac. Clottey’s biggest demise…..at least in his Margarito and Cotto fights, was to step on the brake pedal and become too defensive, and if he does that then I think that Pac will definately win. But if Clottey stays offensively minded where he very accurate, and puts his punches together beautifully, then there is NO WAY that I see Pac winning. Clottey can definately control this fight with his jab alone, and not alllow Pac to get into one of his offensive rythms. But Pac has terrible balance when he throws his punches, and he leaves himself wide open for big counters and uppercuts……..as good,and as great as Pac is as an offensive fighter, he has terrible defense, and really has adapted from being a one dimensional offensive fighter, to a more complete offensive fighter and nothing more……but he is still a very, very exciting fighter to watch.
@ZOOMX
Come on bruh!? I will admit oscar was washed up when fought Floyd. But Floyd dominated Oscar in that fight. You know that bruh! And i never said Manny called out Oscar! Dont get mad at FACTS….BRUH….LMAO
@ RYAN DUNN comment for haku313
SLAM DUNK DUDE. IN YOUR FACE HAKU!
@ haku
roach said the reason ODLH lost to mayweather because he couldnt pull the trigger anymore because of his age. in fact eventhough ODLH already a washed up against mayweather still ODLH won the first half of the fight thats why it was a SPLIT DECISION! ODLH should retire that time but because he almost won against mayweather he did not. it means mayweather is also a washed up because he almost beat by another washed up fighter,thats why he dont want a rematch against ODLH, mayweather retired to “SAVE HIS FACE”. Roach wants to prove that . FYI it was ODLH called pacquiao to fight him and not the other way. GUESS WHAT ODLH didnt win a single round against pacquiao and made him quit after 8 rounds. so roach actually proved it. and again FYI nobody thought pacquiao would win before that fight. ARE YOU NOW ENLIGHTEN? BRUH.
I have to correct myself. Pacquiao has 55 fights 50 wins. and 41 coming against BUMS!
@wowzabean
Maybe Mayweather didnt rematch Dela Hoya for the same reason Pacquiao didnt rematch Marquez bruh. But he wasnt knocked out. And the FACT is that Mayweather dominated Oscar or do i need to post the compubox stats for that fight? Marquez was kicking Pacquiao’s ass late in the fight. Both fights.
But i can admit that in FACT the fight was scored a split decision for Mayweather and a split decision for Pacquiao. But heres some more FACTS.
Pacquaio has 55 wins: Fact
Pacquaio has 3 wins against a worn down, washed up Barrera. comparing these wins would be like Lennox fight tyson three times: FACT
Pacquiao has 3 wins against a worn down, washed up Erik Morales: FACT
Pacquaio has 1 split decision(questionable) over Marquez which he never rematched: FACT
By the way, explain the logic in that. He rematches Barrera and Morales twice after badly beating both of them but decides not rematch a split decision with Marquez? Can you say Ducked!?
Pacquiao has a win over a badly washed up Oscar Dela hoya who after the fight had this to say “You’re right Freddie. I don’t have it anymore.”
Roach, who trained De La Hoya for his fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr., had said that De La Hoya was old and couldn’t pull the trigger anymore. Roach said Pacquaio’s speed would be too much for De La Hoya to handle, and he was right. It took De La Hoya’s corner eight rounds to figure that out. Oscar hasnt fought since. FACT!
Pacquiao has 1 win over Ricky Hatton who was clearly washed up and once again before the fight Roach had this to say “Hatton is not the same fighter after his loss to Floyd, he took something out of him which is why he was on Shaky legs against Lazcano” – Freddie Roach FACT!
Pacquiao has 1 win over Miguel Cotto. Which i cant say Cotto’s washed up just yet, but his next fight will tell all. However, we can all admit that he really hasnt looked good after Margarito. In FACT, roach had this to say before the fight “It doesn’t matter if Margarito did it in that fight or not, a fighter is still not the same following a knockout like that,” Roach said. This is a FACT!
Pacquiao has 46 wins over absolute BUMS! FACT!
Pacquaio was knocked out by two BUMS! FACT!
Dont get upset BRUH just face the FACTS! You see the guys that arguing with me about not being washed up. Pacquiao trainer/master is on record saying the exact same thing.FACT!
So please BRUH, dont get upset with me. FACTS dont LIE! And the FACT is Pacquiao only fights two types of fighters. 1.BUMS! or 2.WASHED UP fighters. FACT!
haku,
Pacquiao’s not my hero. I respect the guy as one of the greatest in the sport. Why didn’t Pacquiao rematch his 2 other losses? Are you kidding me? Pacquiao was a nobody during that time, and so were those two other fighters. Where are they now? One of them is selling food in the street in the Philippines.
Why didn’t Floyd fight ODLH again after his SD win? He would have made a boat load of money. No answer there, bruh.
@Haku
Ok lets say I give you the DelaHoya fight was just a business fight.. So are you saying Hatton and Cotto who are both about the same age as Pac are washed up fighters? Then that must mean Pacquiao is a washed up fighter as well right?
So a washed up fighter demolishing other washed up fighters right? And your argument for being beaten down does not hold up.. 6 months is plenty of time to recover from a fight especially if you’re an athlete! Just look at UFC or K1 or any mixed martial arts where the gloves are A LOT thinner than the ones used in boxing. Beaten down? c’mon!
@Ryan Dunn
Your arguments, sir, are always good read. I even quote you sometimes. Thanks.
Let us forgive this writer. He thinks Bobby Pacquiao, brother of Manny, is fighting…let’s pray for the repose of his soul…
MGM Grand has a seating capacity of around 17,000. Pacquiao vs Clottey will do well if they sold anything close to 45,000 considering fans were clamoring for a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight.
Highest indoor seating was Muhammad Ali vs Leon Spinks at around 60,000.
If Pacquiao vs clottey opened up more seats to accommodate 60,000 or more, they might even break a record.
Dave Lahr is DUMB, DUMB, DUMB.
Lahr, it’s called Marketing 101. They’re just trying to hype up the upcoming fight to bring into a buying-frenzy public until
tickets are sold out to its maximum capacity seat contract.
@Haku313
Your facts are factup, bruh… I respect your opinion but to quote a fact from others’ opinion is just not a fact and that’s the fact, bruh…
@Haku
You put a LOT of energy into declaring why a fighter the world considers great is a chump. I’m not sure if you sincerely believe Manny is worthless, but it sure seems like it. Here are some retorts to your selective assessment…
1. 40,000 tickets sold for a boxing events where neither of the participants can really speak English is an AMAZING feat, give it credit, don’t hold it up against NBA All-Star week. Manny will do well over 1M PPV buys against a fighter not many people know.
2. How did Hatton struggle with Lazcano? He got caught with a shot and wobbled, but here were the judge’s scores: Marcus McDonnell: 120-110 – Pat Russell: 118-110 – Phil Austin: 120-108. Can you explain to me where the struggle was? After Mayweather, Hatton went to his proper weight and won two decicive matches against Malignaggi and Lazcano. Then he got DESTROYED by Pacquiao. Give Manny credit.
3. You say De La Hoya struggled with Forbes? He beat him handedly, not even a question. Here are the judges’ scores in case you forgot: Max DeLuca: 119-109 – Marcos Rosales: 120-108 – Marty Sammon: 119-109. Explain how this is struggling. And keep in mind, Mosley had already beaten ODLH twice, and Hopkins TKO’d him… BEFORE he fought Mayweather.
4. Cotto did get beaten up by Margarito, it’s true. But he did come back to TKO jennings in 5, and fought a great, tough fight against Clottey (the same clottey who beat Judah, Cruz, Alvarez, Corrales and Flores). If you think one fight exposes and destroys a boxer’s entire career, you must not have watched boxing before the year 2004.
5. “Clottey lost his last fight to Miguel Cotto. Who just got blasted by Pacman.” Well by your own logic, Haku, then Manny should beat Mosley easily if he fought him. Do you agree with that? I am guessing you don’t. But if Cotto beat Mosley, Judah, Malignaggi, Branco and Quintana in fairly convincing fashion, then went on to get TKO’d by Manny easily, what makes you think Mosley has what it takes?
I know you like to use facts to make your arguments, which I appreciate, but is your argument that Manny has no talent and doesn’t deserve to be called a great fighter, or enter the ranks of some of the GOAT’s? And does that mean by virtue, that you think Mayweather is far superior and in a different class from Pacquiao?
I just want to know why it is you put the effort into taking away a man’s accolade, as though none of Manny’s achievements are worth anything because the fighters he fought weren’t undefeated when he fought them.
…ryan
@SUBZERO/LIU KANG
Again bruh lets talk FACTS. Mosley KOd Margarito! Why are you people getting mad as if anything i stated about Pacmans opponents are not true? I understand the TRUTH hurts sometimes but these are the FACTS. Sorry
@ King D
You sir are a moron. “Punching is nothing, defense is everything.” LMAO are you serious? since when do you get points for having great defense? When has anyone stopped another fighter by defense??? When has anyone in the history of boxing won a round due to defense? Quit putting people down and speaking as if you know anything about the sweet science. Because if you did, you wouldn’t have said something as stupid as that.
Even if they do sell out, din Jerry Jones as part of the negotiations bu 30,000 tickets? So in essence they really only have to sell 15,000.
dude.. lahr you really need to get some other hobbies. you have some sick obsession with manny pacquiao. i think you need to seek some professional help. the event is being called a near sell out because the stadium is being “reconfigured” to only seat 45,000 for the fight. it’s not that difficult a concept to grasp, unless you are a complete idiot.
I’m not the biggest Manny fan but you can’t hate on selling 45K anything for an event that will barely last 2 hours. 2 foreign fighters? This is great for Boxing. The funny thing is Clottey has a great chance. The only reason I won’t say that he will win is because he works for Arum. This is an inside job that will really be entertaining.
PAC is beating these guys soooo bad and putting on good shows. He is a true champion that will fight anybody. He has class unlike Cherrypicking floyd. Floyd was forced to fight Mosley because he didnt want 2 negotiations to fall thru within the same month. Why do you think it took him so long to sign the fight after Mosley did? Pac has 15 more fights than floyd and is also a year younger. Pac is the man to beat these days. It is what it is. You can’t argue with that. Mayweather will prob wanna fight manny 2 years down the road when he hasnt been in the ring. That’s just the way floyd works. The difference is PAC destroys all his opponents. You can’t compare what PAC did to Oscar and Hatton from what floyd did to them. Pac would win that’s why Floyd won’t fight him. His legacy will be shadowed by PAC-Man unless Floyd starts fighting the best. Floyd and PAC should win their next bouts but they will never fight each other anytime soon.
Never in the history of boxing have we witnessed this kind of intensity on how people feel about a boxer named Manny Pacquiao. Set in an environment having won a historic 7 world belts and an Asian at that with a small stature by Western standards, with a nemesis- a loud mouthed vulgar boxer, Manny has really taken the imagination of the world’s global boxing fans. Now everything related to him is being examined, dissected, verified and analyzed. During the time that Floyd was dominating boxing, we never witnessed this intensity this type of polarization. In his ten years of being in the global boxing scene, Manny has displayed ferocity, tenacity,discipline and class which made him go beyond the ordinary boxing fans’ fascination and touched even non boxing fans. In a few weeks he will be announcing his retirement as he prepares for his political life. Manny, thanks for the memories. This is the reason why the stadium easily reached capacity at 45000 we all just want to have a part of history in this last fight of Manny. It will take another 30 or 40 years to personally experience a fighter like Manny.
Categorically, if 45,000 tickets were sold and only 45,000 tickets were printed then IT IS considered a SELL OUT. Now when you start mentioning 80,000 seats, now that is CAPACITY, which is entirely different.
If they allocate 45000 tickets and sell 45000 tickets thats a sellout dunt matter how big the stadium is simples;-)
Mosely lost to Margarito??????
I wouldn’t pay one cent to see some guy who refuses to take random blood tests.
These are BETTER than pac: Williams, Mosley, Floyd, Valero, Gamboa, John, Bradley
Dave,
This stadium was designed to hold football games. It was designed for spectators to view an entire football field. Viewing a tiny boxing ring from the highest nose bleed section of the stadium is ridiculous. This is why the stadium capacity was reduced. It’s like trying to watch a 12” television from 25 feet away. Its either you get a bigger television or you move up closer to the television.
This article is hilarious. Let’s see if this article of yours can draw 45,000 readers. You might get lucky cuz I sure got suckered into clicking into this article of yours.
WHY ARE U A HATER JUST CAUSE U GOT A CRAPPY JOB THAT DONT PAY CRAP DOESNT MEAN U GOT TO HATE ON EVERYONE!
pac hs fought nobody but has beens. Floyd, Mosley, Williams,Gamboa,Vlaero – all beter than pac and all would knock his ass out.
didnt jones the stadium owner buy 30.000 tickets for himself are they all sold.clotty with those ear muffs up wont counter punch pacman he,ll try and unlease when the barrage stops, but then the second rein of punches will be coming in and it will continue like that until clottey retires on his stool.clotteys too slow thats why floyd mosley or bradley was not even considered to fight pacman. arum and roach know a defeat now for pacman would be dissastrous for his popularity and in monetry terms also.if floyd beats mosley paul williams is next for floyd if williams beats kermit cintron in weeks ahead.
what you didnt understand why it is a sell out poor lhar,the ticket is sellout not the sits!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This writer seems to be angry that 45,000 seats were sold. Stop being Jealous
the nba allstar game had 108 thousand ppl. its not a big deal ppl r goin there to watch the 72 foot hd tv
yo guys miley cyrus can sell tickets too it dun mean shyt
Ukansodoff – I actually think that alot of people will want to see this fight in person just to be a part of history, regardless of where they are sitting……much like going to any sports game, and sitting in the “nose bleed” sections.
I am looking forward to this fight…..I give Clottey a better chance of winning this fight than not, because he is a pretty solid fighter. He may have a knack at comming up short in some of his biggest fights, but he has never been KO’ed or dominated like Pac has been in the past. But beyond that…..Manny Pacquiao has been my favorite fighter for the past few years. I have loved what he has accomplished in the ring, and his heart and determination in battling his opponents have made for some very exciting fights……..that is something that no one can take away from him. But why is it soo hard for Pac’s most ardent supporters to accept ANYTHING critical of him???? Why is it that these guys can revile and experience the higest level of pyschotic glee when mocking the Mayweathers, but go on an all out verbal assault when you give the slightest, and modest hint of not seeing things “mannys way”???? When you have a non-partisan, arbitrary commitee, that has to release an OFFICIAL statement to distance themselves from Team Pac on their biased portrayal of the closed door meetings……….then that in itself SPEAKS VOLUMES!!!! But the Pac guys want to conveniently ignore that fact, or remain silent like it never happened. Pac is a great fighter, but the unabated adoration, and pass on every negative thing surrounding him is sickening. again, I am really looking forward to this fight, but it will be VERY interesting to see the reaction and coments from these guys IF Pac himself gets KO’ed or losses by decision. But some of the current comments that these Pac-man “defenders of the faith” posts are nothing short of ignorance and severe immaturity, and they show just how depraved and inhumane “adults” can be. You guys need to grow up….get a life, and agree or disagree….learn how to respect someone opinions other than yours.
i cant believe this completly nonsense and pointless article is getting such interest.
I do think that in a stadium as big as the Cowboys stadium nobody is guna wana sit right at the back of the stadium to try watch a fight that would look like a dot, and having to rely completely on the big TV screens you may aswell stay at home. They never use the full capacity ofthat type of staduim when hosting boxing.
But who cares what it holds and how many tickets can be sold. Why such a palava over such a pointless debate.
I’m starting to like this website. They seem to speak the truth here. The stadium, at full capacity is actually 108,000. That is what is was when the NBA All-Star game was played last month.
Numbers don’t lie. It’s not 80,000, it’s 108,000. Pac-Clottey is not even half-way there. You’re right, I think they sold 30,001 tickets.
i would not trust anything that comes out of bob arums pie hole !!!
Chris- is it really that serious?
@James
Pac had some spectacular fights, and whooped some legends in the lower weights and had two great close matches with Marquez. But against ODH he was not the smaller man. ODH weighed in at a feeble 145 and could not rehydrate the next day, while PAC was a healthy 148 on fight night. Really, Pacs, not as tiny as people think. After his name was fortified, Arum has done a brilliant job of setting up matches with conditions favoring Pac. But don’t get me wrong, he always comes out on top so…
45 000 is a massive crowd in any country. Is 45K not enough for dave lahr?? If they did it in las vegas it would be about 15k max. So about 30,00 will go to this fight than they will mayweather mosley or any other fight in america this year. So what are you complaining about u nob.
Dave just dont watch the fight then and dont write about it ur articles are cap anyway
you know its funny. i remember when dela hoya and pacquiao fight was first mention every one was like oscar is to big for him. why is oscar messing with the little guy? i remember watching friday night fights when teddy atlas picked pacquiao to win just to hear the other espn host say what! you think he has a chance against oscar. and now since oscar lost people are making up all kinds of excuses. hey look plain and simple pacquiao beat some good fighters. because those fighters lost some of their fights what does that mean. sugar ray beat hearns but lost to duran and hearns knocked duran out. forget all of that political rhetoric style make fights. thats it who lost to who and all of that dont mean nothing. floyd mayweather is a great fighter and so is manny pacquiao.
I hope Dave Lahr will shot himself in the head ’cause that’s what I call a sellout.
Or, his family die in a car accident.
He wrote like a kid lost in the forest whie sucking his mum’s breast.
Well Pac better do more stick training before challenging Clottey to hit.
Pacquiao and Clottey, first boxers in the great Cowboys Stadium. THAT ITSELF IS HISTORY. 4 6 8 combo punch for that granite chin, hits from that big welter Clottey finding elusive Pac! wondering if Pac freezes again and challenge Clottey to hit just like he challenged Cotto.
I think you are MORON.
@King D
Defense my as*! If both fighters are as defensive as Floyd, what would the boxing world become?? Nobody ain’t gonna watch it anymore. So do you still want your favorite boxer to be defensive or somebody who can give you non-stop action?? Think, man, Think!
And Pacquiao is a complete package. he is a good defensive boxer as well. Did you watch him fight delaHoya?.
Common sense fool!
do the math,
It’s either Pacquiao deserves credit for beating these guys and is pound for pound number 1 but you feel he’s on roids…. or these guys he fought were garbage and hes over-rated, claiming both makes absolutely no sense haku!!!
@ everyone arguing with haku…. forget it. He’s brain washed by money mayweather. Haku constantly discredits Pacquiao yet money mwayweather said he don’t understand how Pacquiao got so good after 25. Haku is saying pacquiao is over-rated but then everyone is saying he’s so good he must be on drugs… go figure!!!!
yeah this guy is a freaking moron… think stupid! think!
Why did floyd retire instead of a rematch with ODLH, to think that their rematch would be at welterweight which is Floyd’s weight class. The same weight that Pac fought and dominated ODLH
Really? Is this even a real article? They even said they retrofitted it to hold 45K instead of 80K. Therefore if 45K seats are sold then it means it sold out to whatever capacity was set to in the first place durh! Also, is 45K people not enough? given that the avg. MGM fight holds about 15K.
Ricky hatton sold out a stadium in manchester 80 000 (he actually SOLD OUT as ther were no seats left empty in the stadium, pacman struggles to sell 45 000
Whooever wrote this crap needs to grow up, how old are you 5?
Dave Lahr’s Son says:
March 2, 2010 at 6:04 am
Nice writing pop, i’m really proud of you, it is not always easy to get people so mad at somebody like what you are doing. when i grow up i will do like what you are doing, promise. love you daddy.
hey pop, floyd just called, he say’s collect your money from his uncle.
Blaster 281
He certainly is a deffernt fighter since he met roach, you said it. ROIDS work wonders don’t you think?
@Haku
RE: Why didnt your hero ask for a rematch with the two guys that knocked him out?
At that early stage of his career and fighting where he fought(specially in the Philippines) at that time.. He didn’t have a choice or a say in who he will fight.. much less ask for a rematch.. they fight who they tell you to fight to move up in rank or get paid more.
So he got knocked out by another Filipino and a Thai guy, but that was early in his career where he was a very careless one handed fighter and before Freddie Roach.
He would absolutely demolish either one of those guys if they had a rematch now.
The one thing most people forget when they always bring up Pacquiao’s KO defeats is that he was a totally different fighter before Freddie Roach.
@King D: “stragedgy involved in real skilled boxer.”? tell that to Roach, the master tactician… You must really love the ‘tragedy’, i mean ‘strategy’ of the Mayweather Sr.
@King D
Pacman mentored Khan… do we still need to explain?
@Queen D
A true boxing fan would admire Floyds style and find it very entertaining. Only mindless boxing fans tend to find Pacam more entertaining because they don’t understand the stragedgy involved in real skilled boxer. Punching is nothing, defense is everything. Any fool can throw a punch for mere entertainment but can you defend and still be able to throw lighting strike punches. Floyd just as entertaining as Pacman in a mature boxing mindset.
@Haku:”These are FACTS people and FACTS cannot be argued, Nor do FACTS LIE! Pacquiao has been entertaining but not all that impressive considering the opponents he has chose.”
Facts? what you said was all your opinions! And you said it, Pac has been entertaining… is it not why you pay? to be entertained at the end of the day. I am sure most can watch Pac’s dvd fights more that Floyd, eh?
How can a stadium that can accommodate 80,000 people sell out at 45,000?
Easy! Set the capacity for the event at 45,000 tickets, sell them all, and you are officially sold out for the event! Obvious really.
@QUEEN D:
Just because Khan is young and too skilled for his age at 23. Doesn’t mean he needs to mature. Khan is already embarked on a journey to surpass Pacman and Floyd. He already has greatness when he decided to fight for the first time in the USA. If you’re not a part of the future then get out of the way. Khan is HBO Boxing in 3 years.
Pacman only fights you when you’ve just got your head knocked clean from a previous fight. That’s why he’s P4P king.
@King D: STFU! Stop bringing up Khan… he still needs to grow up… like you!
Khan can easily sellout the Cowboy Stadium by fighting bums. Also Khan can easily out box Manny Paciao anyday. Khan is too slick and sly and will destroy the flaws of Pacman. Pacman has more flaws than Khan. Both are equal in speed but Khan has better agilities when it comes to movements. Let Khan take over the USA venues. He’ll shattered records like no other boxer before him. GURANTEE!
@irish boy
Case Closed? Man please…..
Pacman is a sellout to all his fans. Pacman is DUMB! He lets his promoters do all the decisions. He never puts a say into anything. All the fights he’s had was chosen to him. He never demanded fights for himself like Shane Mosley. Pacman’s promoter chose a worthless and meaniless match against Clottey. If Pacman wins it doesn’t have much vaule. But if Pacman was to lose to Clottey then his P4P crown will be tarnished and Pacman will lose all his glory. It’s a no win situation for the Pac Team.
For all Marquez fan:
Cotto vs Marquez who wins?
Case closed
No point for Pacman-Marquez 3
@ haku
quoted from you
“Pacquiao is a good/entertaining fighter but he has not been as impressive as people are making him out to be.”
Manny won the WBC World Super Featherweight Title at 2008. after a year, he won the WBO Welterweight Title. isn’t that impressive?
@ALL
Didnt mean to post that so many times. my apologies people
Anxious wait for Floyd’s fan as the ticket go on sale today. PACMAN/CLottey has over 20,000 tickets sold in just three hours and that is almost half of capacity.
Will the Floyd/Mosley fare better with no 2 and no 3 as star attraction. Will it sell half the tickets in 3 hours, 3 days or 3 weeks????
pointless article haha
@wowzabean
more facts… So you see like i said before even Team Pacquiao knew Oscar was washed up. Now, do you still care to argue FACTS? BRUH!!!!!
After the fight, De La Hoya walked over to Pacquiao’s corner and told trainer Freddie Roach, “You’re right Freddie.

BRUH!!!!
@Wowzabean
Whatever you say bruh. I cannot believe that youre arguing the facts. Youre a true fan of Pacquiao bruh. But its nothing wrong that, we all have heroes. Pacquiao is yours and thats fine. Couple questions though. Why didnt your hero ask for a rematch with the two guys that knocked him out? Why didnt your hero rematch Marquez after the split decision? Those are just two more facts that you cant argue. Keyword in all of this is FACTS. In FACT freddie roach even said before pacman fought oscar that he thought oscasr was washed up. Which is why after the fight Oscar said “you were right freddie, i dont have it anymore”. That is another FACT that you cannot argue BRUH….
Pac-Clottey (without HBO 24/7, only 2 weeks promo) @ 45,000
Flo-Mosley (with HBO 24/7, plus 3 months promo) @ 17,000
even Mayweather did’nt sellout his fight against JMM!
Davey Lahr, common, how come you did’t buy that JMM fight tickets?
By Dave Lahr: What I don’t understand is how the Manny Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey fight be called almost a sellout at 45,000 when the Dallas Cowboy stadium holds 80,000?
It is ok you don’t understand! because you are $tupid!
Haku,
WTF are you talking about. All I stated were facts, period. You just addressed ODLH/Pacquiao, not his other fights. Plus PBF/ODLH was a SD not a draw. ODLH got a UD vs. Forbes, and he had far from trouble dealing w/him, don’t know what fight you saw. These are just facts “bruh.”
@Wowzabean
Not draw i meant to say split decision
@Wowzabeen
First lets start with Oscar. Before he fought Pacman he struugled with Steve Forbes bruh. Steve Forbes was on the contender and got beat there! So, youre gonna tell me he wasnt washed up when he fought Pacman? Stop it bruh.
Second, Mayweather did in FACT dominate Oscar even though the fight was scored a draw. If need be, i can go get the compubox stats for that fight to prove my case. Nonetheless, i have stated on previous post that the fight was scored a draw.
Lastly, I did not say anything that wasnt true. You can get mad and say im spinning this or spinning that but all ive done was state the FACTS. Everything that i have stated about the fighters that pacman has chosen to face recently were FACTS. You cannot argue FACTS bruh. Sorry
@ uh oh
GEE did that hurt your fweelings??
i was not engaging in name calling
nor did i insult your intelligence all i did was to state the FACTS.
it is a known Fact that we can state different opinions in many things and what i did was to state a FACT that what you bring to this boxing website is none other than a bunch of dribble that really does not benifite us in any way positive.
and again it is FACTUAL that the delahoya fight with floyd was OFFICIALLY CALLED A SPLIT DECISION and not a draw.
Haku,
You’re spinning FACTS in your favor. It’s complete distortion. You want FACTS?
So when Mayweather beat ODLH he was 2-2, .5 win ratio, just like when Pacquiao fought him. Mayweather didn’t “dominate” ODLH, he won by a SD. As far as ODLH being “washed up” why was he an overwhelming favorite at -400? Weight is a BS issue, ODLH came down in weight, Manny came up in weight, to a weight in which he never fought. ODLH set the terms of the fight and got his @ss kicked, FACT. That made him look washed up.
Either way Hatton went into the later rounds with all those fighters. Pacquiao knocked him the f*ck out in the Round 2, at his natural undefeated weight of 140lb, FACT. Nobody has ever done that before to Hatton, FACT. That made Hatton look washed up, now didn’t it.
Cotto went the distance w/Clottey, true, but still had a narrow win w/a cut over his eye. He went the distance with Clottey, FACT. Manny had Cotto done by Round 9, Cotto pressed on till the end, eventually getting a TKO. Margacheato beat him sure, but Cotto dominated the beginning rounds. So another stellar win for Manny, making the fighter look washed up.
Clottey lost a close fight to Cotto and didn’t get KO’d, fact. He’s never been KO’d FACT. He’s not washed up, FACT. His other loses to Baldomir, which he was winning till he got the L because of a headbutt, FACT. He also lost to Margacheato, in a very very close fight. Chances are Pacquiao going to make him look washed up on March 13th.
Seems to be the overall pattern is Pacquiao. If a batter keeps getting struck out, don’t you think it has something to do w/the pitcher? You can keep talking, but the fashion of his wins over much bigger guys is both exciting and surprising. Pacquiao has a hand in making these fighters appear “washed up.” Get over it hater.
wowza,
lol. that’s a good article. i bet he would.
@MRNUTTZ
I think youre getting me confused with someone else. I dont believe the Mayweather vs Dela Hoya was close. Mayweather dominated Oscar, but the FACT is the fight was scored a draw. I am a Mayweather fan but the fight was scored a draw
@haku313
I’ll guarantee that nothing dynamic,new,creative,hopeful or beneficial in any way to humanity is ever been done thought of or driven too, in that drab dreary, entirely baige, willfully idiotic and awfully pile of misery that is your way of thinking and that is FACT.
Nuff said.
Haku313, ur a hater too, PBF vs Oscar wasnt nearly as close as you say. Yeah it was a spit decision but thats only bcuz the fans yelled at everything he (oscar) threw. Floyd threw less connected much more and didnt look like he got hit at the end of the night, like always. it should of been, at the least 7-5 PBF. so he choose baldomir (the champ at the time) over margacheato, I might give u that 1 but that same so called cherrypicked bum gave CLOTTEY one of those L’s and thats a FACT. What did you score oscar vs floyd. I had it 8-4 PBF
lakandula,
Probably some half assed article about how Mayweather’s d!ck tastes. Haku will probably add to that too.
@CAINE
FACTS bruh…. Lets talk about the FACTS!
another nice article from mr. lahr. i’m wondering what would be his next topic.
MGM Grand Arena’s cap is only 17,157. While Dallas is expected to sell 45,000 seats or more. That is more than doubled compared to Mayweather-Mosley. Pac-Josh is a SELL-OUT for they are only expecting 40,000 but that has been surpassed by now.
The trilogy with Morales is a given, who wouldn’t want a third fight between 2 fighters who split their first 2 fights? With ODLH, Pac didn’t ask for that fight. The idea of having De La Hoya and Pacquiao fight came from HBO boxing analyst Larry Merchant talking with ESPN boxing analyst Dan Rafael. And as we know, it was considered a mismatch by most boxing analysts because ODLH is just too big and too strong for Pacquiao. How many times have we heard the phrase, “a good big man beats a good small man”. It was even called a “circus” by some writers due to the perceived size/skills advantage by Oscar.
17,000 is sellout and 45,000 is not sellout. Is that hard to figure out dave.
@TOXIC
Youre talking with your biased opinion. Not FACTS. No need to get upset bruh, all you have to do is provide FACTS. Everything that Ive said is FACT. Dont try to spin it around bruh. Just show me FACTS! Mayweather vs Dela Hoya was in FACT scored a split decision. And it is a FACT that Marquez vs Pacquiao II was scored a split decision. Lets not name call and get upset over people whom we dont even know bruh. Lets just talk FACTS!
Oh, I forgot, Floyd is afraid of fighting in Dallas because of the X factor.
Dave Lahr,
You have to come out and say you made a mistake on this one. If they went for 30 000 or 45 000 or whatever it was, and they get close enough that’s a sellout. Just give them credit for a job well done.
It’s funny how the pac-haters like to nit-pick about 45,000 not being a sellout. It’s the media that’s hyping this up. Pac didn’t have to say anything but the fraudsacs keep coming foward to expose how bitter they are. Like they’re whole mission now is to ruin manny OUTSIDE of the ring since they know Fraud has no chance of beating the filipino INSIDE the ring. COWARDS!! lol
Let’s say hypothetically, Floyd was fighting Clottey at Dallas (big step for Pretty Boy). Would it have the same numbers as we have now. He even had a hard time filling up a hall with a well supported Marquez.
@wowzabean
Did you read the article. It does have a lot to do with some points that the writer made.
@haku313
so your saying that because a fighter who had a lost is already washed up? dude your a bigger retard than Mr Lahr and the mayweathers all combined. it was a damn split decision between delahoya and floyd and that is a FACT! it could have gone either way, mayweather did not want to fight delahoya again despite the FACT that there was a ton of money on the line ( sound familiar?) Clottey is a hard hitter who has never been ever been knocked down dizzied by any fighter and cotto gave him a good fight and that is a fACT. FLoyd mayweather chose to fight carlos baldomir over antonio margarito the better dealier fighter and that is a FACT.
On another note. Some fans of Pacquiao hate to hear the TRUTH. The writer is absolutely right and it is a Fact that Cowboy Stadium holds 80,000+. Which in FACT, means that the stadium is far, far from sold out.
Secondly, it is FACT that all of Pacquiao’s recent fights have been against fighters who either (a) were coming of a bad loss or (b) were on the down side of their careers.
For example, Pacquiao vs Morales I
Morales had just got beaten by Barrera. Whom Pacquiao had previous beat. Keep in mind that Morales had just fought Barrera for third time.(Pacquiao lost)
Another example, Morales vs Pacquiao II
Morales had just got blasted by Zahir Raheem.
Yet another example, Morales vs Pacquiao III
Pacquaio had just blasted Morales in january of that year. Yet opted for a third fight with the worn down BIG NAME.
Another example, Oscar had lost three of his last six fights and taken beatings in all three losses. He was badly beaten in 12 rds. by Mosley(Mosley vs Dela Hoya II). He then went 12 rds. with Felix Sturm and won a decision. He then was totally destroyed by Bernard Hopkins and KOd in 9. He then beat Ricardo Mayorga in 6. He was then dominated by Mayweather in 12 rds. Then, he struggled with Steve Forbes who was a participant on Oscars tv series “The Contender”. So, its fair to say Oscar was pretty washed up by the time he fought Pacquiao. Add that with all the weight loss and he never had a chance and im sure Team Pacquiao knew that.
Another Example, Hatton vs Pacquiao
Hatton had taken a beaten at the hands of Mayweather and was eventually KOd in 10. Then Hatton struggled to a 12rd decision over Juan Lazcano. Then went 11 rds with Paulie Malignaggi. So, its fair to say Hatton was pretty washed up too.
Another Example, Cotto vs Pacquiao
Cotto had been badly beaten by Mr. Margarito and his loaded gloves. So bad, that his corner threw in the towel. Cotto’s next fight was a 12 rd decision over Clottey which some people say he lost.
And Now, Clottey vs Pacquiao
Clottey lost his last fight to Miguel Cotto. Who just got blasted by Pacman. Add this to Fact that Pacman fought Barrera Three times. Which would be like Lennox Lewis fighting Tyson three times after brutally beating him the first time.
These are FACTS people and FACTS cannot be argued, Nor do FACTS LIE! Pacquiao has been entertaining but not all that impressive considering the opponents he has chose. I would be impressed if he had gave Marquez a rematch after a draw and a split decision. I would be impressed if he attempted to avenge the two Knockout losses he suffered early in his career. Pacquiao is a good/entertaining fighter but he has not been as impressive as people are making him out to be. These are FACTS people! Nothing but good, clean FACTS! If any of you can provides FACTS that anything that i have said is not FACTS. I challenge you to prove me wrong. Sorry if I have offended anyone in PACLAND.
Correction. Marquez has a strong following and might have more than an half of the attendance cheering for him. So take away the Marquez factor, what are you left with???????
How is that so many readers here think Mr Lahr is a RETARD in being a boxing writer but still gets to write article upon article in this website. What i dont understand is that the editor of this website actually allows this writer to continually work here albeit having so many detractors…. confusing really is it me or is this just some gimmick to make this Mr Lahr credible in some little way. ( i think i need to take some peds im having cramps again every time i see articles from this writer)
Let me see…….45,000 is larger than 16,000 which is the capacity at MGM for the Floyd/Marquez fight which was not even a sell out. They even have to discount the tickets for the hall to have a decent crowd.
Marquez has a strong Mexican following so it did help a bit in the attendance.
PACMAN is the crowd drawer in this case at Dallas and he has three times as much as Floyd’s last fight.
The fight in this stadium is good for “Boxing” period! Just the fact that boxing is back due to the excitement that pacquiao brings to the table.
45,000 seats is perfect size for a boxing match.. anything higher then that.. Boxers will just end up looking like ants fighting each other.. at that point you will just be looking at the projector screen..
Go to that stadium and sit at the last row.. and ask yourself if you would pay for that seat for any fight.. your better off at home watching pay per view.
Believe me Jerry Jones knows what he’s doing.. he is not a Billionaire for nothing…
Sad, sad little man, Dave.
this dude is a Pac hater! oh well keep on your smear campaign. i bet ur the one that came up with “A-Side meth” with roger mayweather
Dave. You are a moron….
damn this boy would do anything just get some internet hits. he’d even stoop down as low as a dog. what a knucklehead bwahahaha
Dave, try writing something else coz when Pac retires you won’t have anything else to write and you won’t get paid anymore.
“I think they wasted the stadium on this fight…This is like way overboard for a fight that isn’t that big of a deal.”
Stop thinking youll just strain yourself davey boy, comeon if this fight aint that big of a deal how come you keep “bloggin” about it, youre such a twerp you make me sick.
you blog about the same IDIOTIC things over and over again that always boils down to you hating on pacquiao’s. well i have a newsflash for you, youll never get rid of me here calling you SISSY over and over again until u vanish from this site just like your pals manuela perez and liam santiago.
It is a sellout because only 45,000 tickets were printed.
45,000 tickets is the target sales when the fight was planned.
The additional seats beyond the 45,000 seats expected will just be watching the fight on the HD giant screen since the seats are too far and the boxing ring would be too small to see. It would be like a PPV watching it at home but the big difference is the electrifying atmosphere of a thrilled LIVE audience.
The writer’s logic is just dumb. lol
First of all the stadium can hold 100k+ if you watched the NBA All Star game, and if you were a real journalist you’d know this. Secondly, they fit the stadium to hold 40k, because lo and behold it’s 2010 and you can retro fit stadiums. 40k<45k. Does that make sense? Now go ahead and delete my comment again because I do such a good job of making you look like an idiot.
The term “sold out” may refer to either tickets or seats. If the article Dave Lahr is alluding to referred to seats being almost sold out, then he is right since how can 100,000 seats be sold out when tickets printed are only 45,000? However, if the article referred to tickets as almost being sold out since tickets sold are approaching 45,000 which is the number of tickets printed, then Dave Lahr is wrong.
45000 is certainly way more than the 17000 at MGM. This writer’s appetite to undermine this fight(Pac vs Clottey) seems endless. The statements expressed by the writer also sound like a broken record and full of bias and outright misinformation. I think the writer needs one right hook and a straight left from Pac to put him to rest from writing this kind of garbage.
So Clottey is nothing as you say he is Dave? And it turns out that all those buying the tickets are Manny fans. So it goes to show the Manny is the crowd drawer having an unknown opponent. If Mayweather fight an unknown opponent will he draws the same crowd Dave Lhar?
THE SOLD OUT IS 40,000 THEIR ABOUT 7,000 SHORT
Dave Lahr GET HIS INFO RIGHT HERE ,SAMES A PEREZ. THE TWO AMIGOS …….
Dave Lahr, you are a goose!
Dave Lahr: what is up with that? You are also making allegations without good evidence to back you up. Now, if they have sold close to 45,000, you better believe they have sold that much. You will be eating your words come fight night. What is up with you?
THE INTENDED TARGET WAS 45,000 OR CONTRACT TARGET FOR THE FIGHT IN BUSH STADIUM ,ANYTHING OVER 45,000, THE REST GOES TO ARUM AND PAC.
When Mayweather pulled out of the first date in July with a rib injury, Shane Mosley said (let it slip?) that only around 3,000 tickets had been sold for the fight. Mayweather, while a star, is more a TV personality than he is a fighter people want to go see live, and I think we might be learning that for sure now. As well as he’s done, he’s still never been much of a live draw.
i think sellout means, no more tickets for the fight.
But i reallt sense bitterness on the writer.
Mr. Dave Lahr, whatever you do or write against Manny Pacquiao, you can never put a good man down. Everybody knows that Manny is a good man compared to your loud-mouthed idol. Ask anyone…
That was the gate attendance for Mayweather-Marquez
It’s pretty stupid to not know why 45,000 is a sell out. Well I will explain slowly. The staduim is earmarked for 45,000. The rest of the seats are blocked off. The earmarked portion is approaching sell out.
How about this?
J. Michael Falgoust of USA Today reports that the total gate for the event was $6.81 million, and ticket sales were a problem. The announced attendance was just 13,116. Of those, 12,009 tickets went for their original price, with 895 in attendance comped by the casino or promoters. 2,645 tickets in total went unsold.
Comparatively, the May bout between Ricky Hatton and Manny Pacquiao at the same venue sold 15,368 tickets and had a gate of $8,832,950.
This idiot doesn’t even realize how ridiculous it is that a FOREIGN athlete is putting 45-50 thousand butts in seats on AMERICAN SOIL, when American fighters like Mayweather can’t even sell out 17,000 seat arenas in their own backyard (see Mayweather’s last fight, they had to give away thousands of tickets for free). Maybe the Klitschkos should take note on how to draw fans?
And this fool ‘writer’ should spend his energy doing more productive things than trying to turn a blockbuster into something negative. But if hate gets you up in the morning, good luck with that lol.
Pacquiao has been carrying boxing on his back since Mayweather fled the welters to go dance on tv and fake wrestle for money. He deserves nothing but the utmost respect because he gives the fans what they want and treats the sport with dignity.
YOU ARE RIGHT AGAIN DAVE LAHR, IT IS BETTER TO HAVE 17,OOO IN BOXING A STADIUM THAN TO HAVE 45,OOO IN A FOOTBALL STADIUM THAT CAN FILL WITH 100,000 AUDIENCE.
Can’t do the math Dave? Go figure.
Ya’ll notice that Dave is stupid dumb fool.., cuzz he got nothing on his mind., but hating on manny.. All his article is manny this , manny that…??? Hey Dave! Don’t fall in luv with manny.. Can anybody gAve Dave a hug.,, that fool need sum luv ya’ll..
WHAT DO YOU EXPECT. PHILIPPINES IS SUCH A SMALL ISLAND.
THERE’S ONLY 45,000 FILIPINO’S IN THIS WORLD…THATS WHY THEY SAY ITS A SELLOUT.
i think the writer is manuel perez hiding under the name of dave lahr
Why do they let Dave Lahr write an article on this site? He’s clearly uninformed….clearly!
I disagree with you Dave Lahr. If they were expecting 45 000 and they get 45 000 then thats a sellout. They didn’t say they were expecting all the 80 000 seats to be taken. Your criticism is unfair.
Dave, the Cowboys stadium was initially configured for Clottey/Pacquiao fight to seat 30,000 people but Arum found out that tickets sales was so brisk that they reconfigure the stadium for 45,000. I hope this info helps you.
Dave your such a d-bag…. Your articals make no sense at all, sometimes u make me think your racist against philipinos!
Floyd is very afraid to face Pacman. He never want to fight Pacman, because he will lost.
I see your still talking about the Pacquiao-Clottey fight even though you wrote an article back on 31 Jan how nobody is talking about this fight. Hhmmm. Dave, you’re a sad, sad little man.
I think the writer of this article got pieces of many others to put his thought for this one. The whole talk about who Manny has fought and not meaning anything…blah blah blah It is a sell out because they initially set a number and they think the fight will surpass that number.
So if you have an outside arena, can you ever call it a sell out? You can always build more seats…right?!? I don’t think this article has any boxing value but rather a guy hating on Manny.
You really wrote this article lol. They announced when they decided to have the fight in the stadium that they will use 60,000 out of the 80,000 seats. That’s what they mean about being able to open up more seats when they fill the stadium at full capacity.
Face it boxing the only fight that can possibly sell out the new cowboys stadium would be mayweather vs pacman other than that Dallas ain’t payin shh for a Lil weak ass fight
