Mosley would be just as dangerous for Pacquiao as Mayweather

By Dennis Broadhurst: When Shane Mosley and Floyd Mayweather square up on May 1st, I am pretty sure that Floyd will be the one who comes out on top. I think that Floyd’s defence and movement will stop Mosley from landing too much and his slick counter punching will get him the decision. However, I do think that against Manny Pacquiao, Shane would be just as dangerous.

We saw from the Clottey fight that Pacquiao can be hit by relatively slow fighters, Mosley is very quick and also powerful. Pacquiao can obviously dish out major punishment of his own and has shown that he takes a good punch too but if Mosly landed consistently on Pacquiao then he could bust him up and maybe stop him. Of course, if somebody attacks Pacquiao then they are at risk of getting themselves knocked out but Mosley has been facing bigger fighters than Pacquiao for years and could surely take some leather.

I think that Mosley would have to go out hard early in a do-or-die situation because as a big, powerful welterweight, he would have a good chance of stopping Pacquiao. Pacquiao would of course have a chance of hurting Mosley badly during the exchanges because of his speed and power. We will have to see what Mosley’s inactivity has taken out of him when he fights Mayweather.

Mosley would be 39 if he fought Pacquiao which is very old for a fast fighter but I do still think that he would have a chance. If Mosley just laid back and tried to box then Pacquiao would likely use his great stamina and youth to outwork Mosley over the course of the fight. I think Mosley’s best shot would be to hurt Pacquiao early by going after him and busting him up but he would probably not do that because of the risk attached.

The threat that Mayweather poses to Pacquiao is that he has brilliant defence and is a good counter puncher, something which Manny struggles with, however, we have seen that Mayweather can struggle with pressure and would likely be scared to exchange with Pacquiao because of Pacquiao’s speed and power. I think that Floyd could maybe fight too nervous a fight and end up losing a decision, or he may fight the fight of his career and outbox Pacquiao.

One thing I am certain on is that Mayweather is not going to stop Pacquiao, to do that he would have to eat too many punches and would maybe get stopped himself. This fight could go either way, constant pressure from Pacquiao resulting in a decision for him or Mayweather’s skill and defence resulting in a decision for him.

Both of these fights are winnable and losable for Manny but if he lost to Mosley it would be more likely by knockout or stoppage and it could destroy his legacy but if he was beaten by Floyd then it would be by a decision and he would admit being beaten by the better boxer on the night.

Pacquiao could win both of these fights, however, his speed, angles and power make him a hard fight for anybody and it would be likely that both fighters would get caught with a good few shots from Manny who could use his great fitness and offence to wear them down. One thing is for sure and that is that all three of these fighters are greats and no matter who wins in their fights, they will always be greats.

  • Ricky says:

But you failed to include that Cotto also was practically running away from Pacquiao for a good 5 rounds. Clottey was just standing there & taking shots with his arms.

  • Ricky says:

Tye, ofcourse I’m biased to a certain degree. All of us are. We’re not posting here as journalists. C’mon, man. Pacquiao defended his title from a true welterweight.

He missed 80% of those shots because Clottey hardly opened his arms. Have you seen Clottey close himself THAT MUCH in any of his fights? And of those extremely few times that he did throw punches (and, yes, he landed punches on Manny), he paid for it & made him bring his hands up again and again. 12 rounds in a defensive shell?! What you are missing is the fact that Pacquiao has the stamina to keep going. He did it with Dela Hoya (who is by the way one of the best counter punchers in boxing – oh let’s not get back to the point that he’s out of his prime. He’s been out of his prime before Floyd even fought him), Cotto & did it with Clottey.

As for fighting a counter puncher, he was amazing against Dela Hoya. As for getting hit, he was able to take hits from Cotto & Clottey. Mayweather doesn’t have the same power. To be honest, I never thought Pacquiao would make it this far, but every fight he just kept improving. Every fight he proved his critics wrong.

  • Tye says:

As for people saying Pacquiao didn’t have the skills to beat Dela Hoya; I never heard anybody say that, what I heard them say was that Pacquiao was going to be too small, because every one thought Oscar would hydrate back up to atleast 154 or higher. But like I said before Pacquiao threw that amount of punches, because of the opponent he was facing. How come he didn’t throw close to that amount in the Cotto fight? Becasue Cotto was actually throwing punches back and moving around alittle bit unlike Clottey who was basically a punching bag. I’ve watched alot of fights and the only fights I’ve gotten wrong in the welter weight division in the last 5 years have been Dela Hoya vs Pacquiao, and Cotto vs Mosley. I may be wrong but after watching Pacquiao vs Clottey; I think if Mayweather hasn’t lost anything since retiring when Pacquiao and Mayweather meet in the ring Pacquiao’s 15 minutes will be done.

  • Tye says:

Come on Ricky get serious and stop being bias.
First of all Clottey is not in the top P4P for a reason, and that because he’s not good enough to be their; his greatest victory came against Zab Judah, I rest my case. As for Manny throwing all of those punches, come on man he missed 80% of them. The only reason he was able to get off that many shots is because his particular opponent stood in front of him with his guard up; the only way he can get off the combinations he wants against Floyd is if he can cut-off the ring, and that’s going to be tough against a fighter with Floyd’s movement, and you know that.

  • Ricky says:

Oh, & if the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight does push through & Floyd wins, I’ll be here to give him props.

  • Ricky says:

T3xA$ M@D3, first off, give Clottey the respect he is due. If you remember there’s an article here that specifically stated Clottey will beat Pacquiao. And now that Pacquiao beat him, we have guys like you now saying Clottey is a nobody. He is very good fighter but Pacquiao was better that night.

Second, I never said Mayweather can’t block while he’s punching. But from Dela Hoya to Clottey, a lot of people are saying he doesn’t have the speed nor the power to take on all those fighters. Well guess what? He did so.

Manny has speed, power, stamina and the chin to take hits. Again, Mayweather cannot block all 1,000 punches Pacquiao will be throwing. With the exception of Clottey, everyone from Morales were either knocked down or knocked out. It’s pretty simple, he is a totally different fighter now from the last time he fought Morales.

  • t3xA$ M@D3 says:

RICKY don’t nobody even know who clottey is.HE ain’t in the top 10 p4p.Mayweather knows how to block and counter punch.Mayweather can concetrate on his punch and the punch coming at after. He does it constanly. Just cause manny can’t block when he throws punches doesn’t mean that goes for everybody.Manny ain’t fought any fast fighters at all.Boy you better still be here when mayweather beats his ass.I ain’t no hater if manny were to win i’ll be right back on here to give him props.

  • Ricky says:

No, we want two boxers willing to BOX and FIGHT. There is a high probability that a Pacquiao-Mayweather would be similar to the Clottey fight. Mayweather would counter & open himself up & he will get hit. Heck, even a nick from Manny’s punches will hurt him – Mayweather doesn’t have a strong chin as Clottey’s. At that point, it will all be defense for Mayweather.

It is stupid for anyone to think that out of a thousand punches that Manny would throw, none would land.

Then again, Mayweather still needs to get pass Mosley. I’m for Mosley on May 1.

  • t3xA$ M@D3 says:

MANNY and mosely would throw alot of punches. But we need to see the brawler vs the all around smart boxer. So the wrong can shut there mouth already.

  • Ricky says:

T3xA$ M@D3, aposterphees, speednometor – hahahahaha! Tell me you’re just joking here. Hahaahaha!

Anyway, Mosley would be a better match up. I believe Mosley is a better fighter than Mayweather. After May 1, Mosley will beat Mayweather & the next match up will be a great one. A fighter versus a fighter. I’d pay to see that.

  • Ricky says:

T3xA$ M@D3, LOL!!! I’m guessing you didn’t finish 4th grade. Mannys’ instead of Manny’s – HAHAHAHAAHAHA! Which school did you go to, man? D@mn!

Anyway, you yourself said “sometimes” you can see how fast things are. It’s “sometimes” & not all the time. Do you “sometimes” see “slow” planes flying in the sky? Meanwhile, ALL of Pacquiao’s most recent wins were attributed to his speed (well, among other things).

HAHAHAHA! I can’t get over the Mannys’ vs. Manny’s! HAHAHAHAHA!

  • t3xA$ M@D3 says:

@Wowza wow i can’t measure their speed with my eyes but you can say they equal in speed with your eyes.OPINION

  • wilson says:

-SaNtos- If Mosley beat Mayweather, how could Mosley be a lesser opponent than Mayweather for Pacquiao? If Mosley beat Mayweather that means he’s better than Mayweather. That’s pretty dumb comment. You got no commonsense at all. Go to school bro.

  • wilson says:

If you pretty sure that Mayweather will win the fight then bet all you have, your house, car including your wife if have a wife. That’s very stupid assumption. They think they’re prophet they know the future. What an idiot.

  • -SaNtos- says:

To Tru…. Im not sure pac man fans want mosley to win so that he may challenge the lesser fighter ( if you consider mosley a lesser fighter) But its actually the contrary, alot of pac man fans want to see pac man wreck Mayweather so bad, they secretly hope that Mayweather beats Mosley, even though hes a piece of shyt and would love nothing more than for Mosley to break his jaw so he cant talk S#$% anymore……

  • Tru says:

Notice how the idiot Pacman fans all want Mosley to beat Mayweather because they know if Mayweather wins and Mayweather fights Pacquiao, he’ll be exposed. They atleast think they have a better chance against Mosley, somebody that will brawl.

  • dayyammmm says:

Of course Shane would be dangerous for Pac.

Why do you think Pac ducked Shane?

Facts are facts, you had the #1 consensus welterweight and #3 P4P contender DRIVE TO YOUR GYM in person to request a fight with you.

And what response does he get?

“Don’t eat until you starve to 142 pounds – then we’ll fight you.”

  • Left Handed Boxing Fan says:

make no mistake about it, shane would knock pacquiao out!.

  • t3xA$ M@D3 says:

wowza seriously get on you tube and look how fast mayweather shoots his right hand. then look at the speed of manny’s hands when he throws them.not how many he throws but how fast he throws a punch.PLUS LOOK AT THE SPEED WHEN MAYWEATHER DODGES A PUNCH. manny cant do that

  • wowzabean says:

    texas,

They’re equally as fast. I mean did you use a radar gun to check their speed? You say it so absolutely. Personally I can’t tell who’s faster, they both look equivalent to me. All Pacquiao’s opponents have blamed his speed for their lost. With Mayweather it’s more so his footwork and defensive ability. That’s what I see anyway.

  • gladnotmad says:

    Take who’s test?

  • Ken says:

I don’t think Mosley would fight Pacquiao the way some of you guys might envision. I could see Shane doing alot clinching; One thing I know for sure is no matter who you are, you don’t want to get hit clean by Shane Mosley cause you could be going to sleep.

  • reyes says:

    @wowzabean

good point..pacquiao changes his style according to the opponent. he has different plans for each opponent and trains according to their style

  • JonnybGood says:

Honestly, I’m done with boxing; it’s become more of a popularity contest than people really recognizing who the best fighters are. Cotto was pretty much hyped up, becaus HBO needed someone that they could build up to replace Floyd in the welter weight division, but he was never that good. At the time people were calling Margaritto the most avoided fighter the only person he had beat worth talking about was Kermit Cintron. Mean while nobody even talks about Paul Williams, I guess he isn’t as marketable as some of the other fighters; that’s the only reason I can think of as why know one talks about him are what he has done, and who he has beaten. If boxing made it mandatory for fighters in a division to face certain fighters the whole welter weight situation would be different. Paul Williams probably would have all the welter weight belts, but I guess his time will come.

  • wowzabean says:

Out of those 3 fighters each one could win a fight against the other. It’s a hard call. I think PBF will take SSM on May 1st, but we’ll really see if the Margacheato fight for Shane was a fluke. Hard to say.

Nice points in the article, but again, Clottey is a different fighter than Shane. He has a low work rate and a low KO%. Knowing this I doubt Pacquiao gave a f*ck about getting hit. Boxing isn’t a “if A fighter beat B fighter, and C fighter beat A fighter, then C fighter can beat B fighter.” By that logic since Cotto beat Mosley, Pacquiao would destroy him.

So lets not compare Clottey’s hits to what Mosley would do. It’s a completely different fight. If you wish to do it, then the counter argument is simple, Pacquiao would knock Mosley the f*ck out. Doesn’t make much sense does it?

  • boxer 101 says:

    very well written… nice read.

  • waltz says:

    @ Haku313
Pacquiao agreed to fight Mayweather. so yeah, they’re suppose to meet in the ring. unfortunately, their terms just prevented the fight to happen.

Pacquiao wanted to fight Mayweather. he said he wanted to fight Mosley too.

  • Phoocquiao says:

Connecting 37% is hardly at will……

  • You Know I'm Right says:

Shane Mosely will KO Pacquiao inside of 4 rounds. Both fight the same, Mosely is twice as strong.

Mayweather will simply punch, counterpunch and pepper Pacquiao all night to a Unanimous Decision.

Slow Poke Clottey hit Pacquiao at will. The poor sap just refused to fight!

  • Phoocquiao says:

    @ props..

Barrera was still ranked in the top ten P4P when he fought Manny. If Pac gets no credit for beating the likes of Barrera and Morales, then Floyd gets absolutely no credit for beating an old Mosley who will be older than Morales and Barrera when they fought Pacquiao.

Marquez fought great against Pacquiao, but he also got dropped 4 times in two fights. Had he not gotten knocked down, he may have walked away with the victory.

Hatton never should have fought Mayweather at 147. It didn’t matter anyway.

Saying that the only reason Hatton lost was because he lost to Floyd is idiotic. Floyd didn’t turn Hatton into a face first fighter and he didn’t soften him up for Pac either. That punch that Pac scored the knockout with was the perfect punch. Hatton could have been wearing headgear and that punch still would have floored him.

  • Phoocquiao says:

    @ Props

141 is still within the welterweight class because the limit is 147. A catch-weight is basically a modified limit.

So in the Cotto-Pac fight, the catch-weight was 145. That basically meant that although the welterweight limit is 147, neither fighter can weigh more than 145 during weigh-in for that particular fight.

If they didn’t have the catch weight, Cotto would have weighed 147 and Pac weighed 144. Both would still be considered welters though.

Why don’t you try to watch boxing before you comment.

  • Thomas - Yorkboxer says:

personally looking at how easy pacman swells i could see floyd wining on cuts

  • Ricky says:

Props78, learn to COMPREHEND. Pacquiao-Mayweather would be boring – just like the fight with Clottey. Did you even read the article here? Christ! It’s my opinion and I’m entitled to it.

STFU, did I push a button? Again, Mayweather is not the P4P anymore. Get over it.

  • props78 says:

if 141 is still welter then y is it called catch weight?an i thought u were talkin bout mannys oppen not floyds

  • props78 says:

maquaz beat him twice the world agrees as u pointed out of course u may be part of the few (like u told me)that feels he may have won (lol)an barra was already finished which the world would agree with me also, hatton never recovered after his first lost but what the hell i’ll give u him anyway that still leaves 2

  • Jesus... says:

you’re an idiot, 141-147 is welterweight, 147 is just the LIMIT. You don’t even know the basics of boxing. There has been catchweights since the 1920s, and Pacquiao had never fought at welter before, but after learning he had the power and could take a welter’s punch, no catchweight was needed against the tough Clottey.

And Mayweather did fight Baldomir and Gatti and idiots like you act like that’s better than beating legends like Barrera and Morales to a pulp. There’s a reason why knowledgeable sports writers named Manny Pacquiao fighter of the decade.

    Learn before typing.

  • props78 says:

y u naming baldamir an gatti he never fought them an i said name only the fighters without crazy conditions,he didnt beat cotto at welter not at 145,i give u barra even though he caught him on his way out but thats all u get

  • Phoocquiao says:

i guess props forgot that Hatton and Marquez and DLH and Barerra were all Golden Boy fighters….It’s not Manny’s fault that the highest ranking available welterweight was a Top Rank fighter (Clottey)

  • Jesus... says:

And if Pacquiao fights just Top Rank fighters, he’d be guaranteed 50,000+ fans in Dallas, Giants Stadium, Yankee Stadium and 1 million+ buys to fight guys like Margarito or Edwin Valero to close out his legendary career. He doesn’t need Mayweather, and proved that EMPHATICALLY this weekend fighting a guy most people didn’t even know existed.

Imagine if Mayweather had tried to fight Clottey in Dallas. How many people would’ve showed up haha?

No one pays to see Mayweather fights other than to see him lose, watch all of his recent fights. Was anyone in the stadium cheering when he won?

  • Jesus... says:

    @Props

Marco Antonio Barrera- top 5 GOAT Mexican fighter, top 50 pound for pound all time (Beat him twice, 1 KO)

Erik Morales- same as Barrera (Beat him twice, 2 KO)

Ricky Hatton- at 140 where he was 40-0 (KO 2nd round)

    Marquez AT 130

Miguel Cotto (KO 12, Mayweather avoided Cotto for years)

Joshua Clottey (UD 12, Mayweather avoided, Welterweight champion, one of the best chins in boxing)

Jorge Solis, David Diaz, Oscar Larios>>>>Arturo Gatti, Carlos Baldomir, Henry Bruseles

  • props78 says:

they both brawlers with no defense,an shane has foot movement although he likes to fight flatfooted at times but he lacks head movement an pac does to,they both have in an out styles, both love to trade, both struggle with counter punchers, who do u feel fought the harder people manny or shane? shane has a better chin equal speed,an equal power,an he is not top rank

  • props78 says:

pbf dont need manny, manny only got top rank since nobody will fight him with out those same test u keep trinna ignore so let that cheat keep fighting top rank fighters who throwing the fights anyway jus like clotty jus did an mayweather will keep fighting the ones manny avoiding

  • z says:

i could see mosley go down the hatton route and have his last two losses be to floyd and pac. even if he loses to floyd ide rather see pac fight him then jmm or margacheato.

  • Phoocquiao says:

    @ Props

Mosley doesn’t have Pac’s movement. Matter of fact, the only thing they have in common is the fact that they go for the knockout.

If you take away Pac’s foot speed, high work rate, and awkward angles, then you have Shane Mosley.

  • props78 says:

jeses,u say they are much better y u aint name them? oh an please only name the ones without the crazy conditions, and leave the 2 he really lost out cause that want get u any credit

  • Jesus... says:

Take what test? the one that no boxer in the history of the sport has ever been subjected to? Get the f*** outta here with that ducking and dodging bull.

Pacquiao doesn’t need Mayweather, but Floyd needs Manny, at least if he wants to finally get the IRS off his back. Manny is a billionaire in his country and he can put 51,000 fans in a stadium for a fight against a little known fighter from Ghana. He’s the face of his sport and the biggest draw in the WORLD. Floyd couldn’t even sell out 16,000 seats in his own backyard in Vegas his last fight.

Manny could be a congressman and launch a presidential campaign, but Money’s biggest accomplishment would be staying out of jail and paying back taxes. And the staying out of jail part isn’t looking good since he’s due to testify in a grand jury about lying to the police and his involvement in an attempted murder.

Who needs who in this scenario?

  • Phoocquiao says:

Pacquiao’s best offense comes when his opponent throws punches and Pac connects in between his opponents punches.

When Floyd gets his back on the ropes, he likes to roll off the left hook. Manny will look for that and counter with a right uppercut.

Floyd likes to fight in spots. If Pacquiao can win in those spots, keep Mayweather on the back foot, then he can definitely win a decision.

I give Pac the advantage when Floyd starts to throw punches because that’s when Pac is at his deadliest. Floyd’s defense is second to none, but he is at his most vulnerable when he is attacking. Pac wins those spots, then nothing Floyd does defensively can win him the fight.

  • props78 says:

ricky if its so boring y u spending all this time talking bout it? y its the fight the world wants to c? listen manny an shane are twins when it comes to styles,an we will c how far that gets him..atleast floyd fighting somebody who will throw back, unlike the guy top rank told to go in there an dont try an win jus get paid

  • STFU says:

Tell me when has Pacquiao faced a slick, fast, smart, top tier African American Boxer? NEVER!!! I can’t wait until they make this made up make believe PRE-fabricated Arum champion look average and ordinary.

TAKE THE DAMN TEST MINNY MOUSE!

  • Jesus... says:

Pacquiao’s opponent record is much better than Mayweather’s, I don’t know why you guys bring up fighters on Pacquiao’s hitlist (some of them being guys Money ‘retired’ to avoid). Mayweather’s Most recent fights:

-Marquez(Blew him up to welter, when Juan Manuel had never fought past 135 AND came in over weight)
-Hatton (Fought him at 147 where Ricky NEVER looked good, Pacquiao knocked him out in a fraction of the time AT RICKY’S Weight where he was like 40-0)
-De La Hoya (Got a split decision, Pacquiao BLASTED him away into retirement)
    -Carlos Baldomir (Come On hahahaha)
-Zab Judah (Mental midget… but still knocked May down)
    -Sharmba Mitchell (hahaha)
    -Arturo Gatti (hahahahahaha)

Yeah, his opponents are so much better than Pacquiao’s… especially Hatton and De La Hoya. Pacquiao fights ‘drained’ ‘plodders’ and May fights super slick fighters at their natural weights.

    Stop It.

  • Ricky says:

STFU, I’m not Pinoy. You just can’t stand the fact that a fighter from a third world country is now THE POUND FOR POUND FIGHTER in the world. And all your man Mayweather ever did was trash talk the Pacquiao. I never saw nor heard Pacquiao spoke ill of any other boxer the way Mayweather spoke ill of him. You need to grow up.

Mayweather is not the P4P fighter anymore, so STFU. :D

  • Ricky says:

Props78, what?! See, this is what I mean. You guys don’t make any sense at all. Geez… No wonder you guys are Mayweather fans!

ANYWAY, back to the topic. Mosley would be a better match for Pacquiao. Mayweather would just be running away from Pacquiao. It will be boring.

  • props78 says:

The only joke i c is manny an his choice of opponits the conditions he asks of them are rediculas,an when he fights non top rank fighters he gets punished, fight a welterweight not on the top rank roster an dont ask them to weight drain theirselves to get my respect!!!Mosley offered to come to 145 an take less money an manny avoided him why?

  • Hip Hop says:

Mayweather NEVER steps in the ring aganist an opponent thinking there is a chance he could lose. He cares about his 0 too much. In his mind if a fighter has a loss then they’re not great. There are so many all-time greats who have a loss. Mayweather is a master at ducking fighters. He retired just so he wouldn’t have to fight the top guys in the welterweight division. There is no way he can say he’s the greatest when he didn’t take the challenges from Forrest(RIP) a younger Cotto Margarito(he turned down MILLIONS not to fight him) Williams Clottley etc. He thought let them wear each other down and he’ll come back and say he’s the best in that division. He’s a smart coward. Manny will beat him. This is why the fight probably won’t happen. Floyd is just scared of a loss. And there’s no question manny will knock him out. Floyd you’re a joke. A true coward. Beating an old shane won’t prove anything. Fight and beat a young prime pacquiao. No excuses and no bull%$! test. The man never tested postive for illegal drugs. Floyd Sr. said this to help his son get out of the fight. He knows manny will ko his son just like hatton. Let the boxing comission do it’s job and fight the man one on one. Do you have the heart to do this? I don’t think so. You might avoid pacquiao and retire undefeated but the true boxing world knows you were a real coward.

  • props78 says:

ricky learn to comprehend my sights not what it use to be but you should get my meanings,

  • props78 says:

Listen manny is ok,he’s good but great?lets be real here his list of guys he beat are only ok but he needed cotto because before that he was just the guy who really lost twice to marqaz not really mentioned during floyds reign 10 years an counting, dont weight drain a fighter an say you beat them at 100 percent, atleast floyd had the balls to fight everybody at their weight he is only a true 140 himself manny got to bring dela hoya a natural 154-168 all the way to 146,lol u no he actually weighted more than oscar that night!! an then made cotto come down to 145!!! to me cotto should have been moved up but to bring him to 145? An yall giving him credit like he beat them at a 100 percent!lol is this what boxing has come to

  • Boxing says:

As a welterweight Floyd hasn’t fought anyone he thought was a threat. That’s why he retired. He retired to avoid Cotto Margaito Williams and anyone else he thought would give him problems or beat him. Study their styles real good. And people will see Manny has the style to beat Floyd. Floyd Sr. and Jr know this. Pacquiao will not only beat Floyd he will Ko him too. Floyd has the heart of a COWARD. He’s fighting Shane because he feels Shane is old and there’s no one else he can make money with. He will try his best to beat Mosley and if he wins he will demand something else crazy just so the fight with him and Pac doesn’t happen. His father said he didn’t want him to take that fight. The only way Floyd will fight Pacquiao is if he feels he has the MENTAL EDGE over him(drug tests up until the day of the fight). Floyd saw Pacquiao’s interview after he lost to Morals and used that as a way out. And he’ll keep using it to either have a Mental edge gong into the fight or to dodge it altogether. He is a COWARD.

  • Killa says:

Ok he has bad hands. Alot of fighters do, but overall he’s pretty durable.

  • Killa says:

    @Flip4Life

Go back and check the punch stats for Mayweather vs Judah, Dela Hoya, and Castillo 2. The punch stats are one sided all for one person. Gues who.

  • Jesus... says:

But he IS fragile. His hands always being injured almost destroyed his career (until he discovered lidocaine) and I bet it’s one of the biggest reasons he ‘retired’ for a year and 1/2. Check his history, he has FRAGILE hands.

  • Killa says:

Mayweather’s fights since moving to welter have been against fighters who are not so great, but him fighting Mosley is the first step towards making things right.

  • Killa says:

    @Jesus

Floyd is fragile? Fighting with a torn rotator cuff is fragile? Now this is starting to sound crazy. People who box for a living aren’t fragile. I could respect your opinions up until that last one, but now it’s getting dumb; You’re just saying anything now.

  • Jesus... says:

Ok i’ll tell u…the same thing khan did to him in training,he exsposed him look it up if u dont believe me ,then he bragged about it an then roach tries to get him to stay hush about it,any body who can move caounter good an have speed will kill, yes kill manny only way they dont is if they are signed to top rank..and of course what i and many others like to call a pounchers chance, which is always possible in any match,in fact its all shane is got when he enters against floyd so we will wait an c how far that gets him,me im predicting a shut out like so many others,i feel a brawler does not stand a chance against a boxer, which is y the kliskos are ruling the heavy weights and y floyd ruled for 10 years, not got it by it being vacated like pac got it

  • Brett says:

I am big Mayweather fan. If he beat Mosley, he should retire. He should not fight Pacquiao. I don’t want to see Mayweather’s record with a loss.

  • Phoocquiao says:

Naw Pac would knock them both out with the thunderclap….

  • Jesus... says:

    @Zioner,

What? Manny hasn’t earned the right to fight Floyd? Manny’s welterweight record in just 2 fights (Cotto, Clottey) is >>>>> Mayweather’s in 5 years (Baldomir haha). Get your head out of your ass.

  • props78 says:

U speak of floyd as if he is fragial or sommin,he will destroy pac jus like he did marquaz, many only looks good against top rank fighters, that stand there in front of him all night pbf, wont be there when he throws an everybody in the whole world k ows what pbf does to people who throw an miss, and im sick an tired of people saying castillo layed a blueprint, everybody has atleast 1 off fight in their careers an if he had the blueprint y didnt he use it the 2nd fight after pbf gave him the rematch to erase all dout? Instead he got destroyed like all the rest,i would bet anything manny runs from pbf again an goes after a magarito or forman somebody under top rank who only gets bout a mill in a half for the fight an will not hurt bobs golden egg to bad

  • Jesus... says:

    @killa,

That was one of my earlier points- if Manny hits Floyd with 1000+ shots, even if most don’t land clean… Floyd will be hurt. He’s too fragile and always has some sort of injury- rotator cuff, ribs, he’s always had brittle hands. Manny would cause serious damage to him.

There’s a reason Mayweather and his camp are so hesitant to fight the man, Sr. has made it crystal clear he doesn’t want his son in the same ring as Manny.

  • Kuplit says:

Nice article Dennis, although it was hard for me to figure out whom you are rooting for among the three. Is it Pacquiao, Mayweather or Mosley? Maybe you played it safe that you covered them all. As the result of Pacquiao’s performance last night, I will choose Mosley to fight Manny. I am getting a “phobia” that Mayweather may end up like Clottey who will play safe and wait for Manny to be tired. I don’t want to watch a similar fight anymore. I am Pacquiao’s fan from day 1 but I love to see a good fight to value the money I am spending. Yep, the world asked for Floyd, but to me that was only hype. I ask for a good fight and only Shane Mosley can give that wish. Mosley will beat Mayweather in 8th.

  • Zioner says:

Bad news for Pacquiao. Manny Pacquiao’s fight won’t be shown on German TV anymore. German TV now require all fighters to undergo Olympic random style drug testing.

Anyway, I don’t think Pacquiao has earned the right yet to face Mayweather. Pacquiao needs to beat the likes of Berto, Mosley, Alexander and Bradley before facing Mayweather.

Organise Pacquiao-Mosley first, and then Paquiao-Berto, and a couple more before Pacquiao will earn the right to face Mayweather.

  • Killa says:

    @Jesus

I hear what you’re saying, but as of now their is no blue print to beat Floyd Mayweather jr. All you can do is hope what you’re saying works.

  • t3xA$ M@D3 says:

@ANONYMOUS slap yourself for compaing clottey to mayweather.MAYWEATHER will slow manny down with his cobra like counter punching. GO TO youtube and check if he just stands there and blocks.MAYWEATHERS opponents can throw 700 punches and land like 100.WHILE mayweather can throw less like 600 and land like 240.ITS called accuracy. YOU better ask somebody!!

  • Killa says:

    @Jesus

He was complaining about it to his corner during the fight, so I think it was legit.

  • You Clown says:

Every body has a dream Ricky. Sorry yours won’t come true.

  • Eric says:

    Pacquiao is on steroids.

  • Jesus... says:

    @Killa,

Yeah, I know Mayweather’s story about his rotator cuff, but it smelled like his ‘rib injury’. He looked like the same old Floyd- he was quick, his shoulder rolls were unaffected, etc. Castillo was the better fighter that night with a better gameplan, but he was robbed blind.

The gameplan would work perfectly for Pacquiao, especially since he’s MUCH faster, hits harder, better foot speed than Castillo and his soutpaw stance would keep Floyd off balance all night.

I just don’t see how Floyd beats him. Shoulder rolls and counters for 12 rounds? He’ll be too shell-shocked by the speed, power, and activity and will hide in his shell like Clottey did.

  • Jake says:

Pacquiao and MOsley. That’s the fight I want to see!

  • Anonymous says:

Pacquiao-Mosley would be a better match up than Pacquiao-Mayweather. Fighting Mayweather would be close to how the fight with Clottey went. Mosley is a fighter and he would sure make the fight exciting. It could go either way with a Pacquiao-Mosley match.

As for a Pacquiao-Mayweather… Pacquiao would destroy Mayweather, in my opinion.

  • SSM says:

MOSLEY WILL SHUT UP FOUL MOUTHED MAYWEATHER !

  • Killa says:

    @jesus

You do know that Mayweather was fighting with an injury in his first fight with Castillo right? So that blue print would have to include slamming Floyd’s arm in a door before the fight.

  • Jesus... says:

Castillo laid out the blueprint for beating Mayweather, I have no idea why more trainers didn’t try similar tactics… probably because Carlos Baldomir, Arturo Gatti, Ricky Hatton, etc didn’t have the tools to carry it out.

See how Castillo masterfully cuts off the ring with footwork and physicality and doesn’t let Mayweather off the ropes and into the center of the ring? Then he gets in close, keeps bobbing and weaving and not letting Mayweather get clean looks/counters and goes for the openings, head and body? Now imagine a guy whose 5X faster and stronger, with better stamina executing the same gameplan and you have Mayweather first (second) loss.

  • Ryu says:

    @Buggy

Yeah Clottey’s a true welter weight and so was Cotto what’s your point? Clottey doesn’t have great power, when’s the last time he had a KO? Their was nothing that suprised me about this fight. The only thing I would have been suprised at is if Clottey had been KO’d or Pacquiao had been KO’d. Even Clottey’s punch out put is more than some of his other fights.
Like I said where was the suprise at? We’ve known Pacquiao could take a punch since the Cotto fight.

  • motownhitman says:

STFU, I couldn’t agree more. Pac simply throws a lot of punches, however so does Margarito and let’s be honest there everyone was talking about Margarito being a swarmer and you see how he got handled by Mosley. Both Pac and Margarito throw a lot of punches, but they both lack defense and a high ring IQ. If you fight a smart fight against them you win.

  • Buggy says:

What do you mean by Pacquiao getting hit by a slower fighter… come on, Pacquiao was trying bait Clottey to open up. The only thing I see in that fight is Pacquiao can take a punch from a true big welterweight. If Clottey got offensive then we would have seen Pacquiao’s defence. Roach was saying all day that Pacquiao’s defence was non existence in that fight. But with Mayweather, you’ll see a different style.

  • Jesus... says:

The thing is, Clottey is the toughest, most durable fighter in the welters and he can absorb punishment. Punches that didn’t land clean hit his arms, elbows, shoulders, etc and most fighters would be completely broken down by the 6th or 7th from that type of constant barrage of power punches… but Clottey has one of the best chins in boxing and his body is cut out of granite… and it still looked like he was going to quit on his stool from too much punishment after the 9th, but he toughed it out.

I don’t think Mayweather can withstand that constant barrage, he has always had brittle hands and he’s nowhere near as durable as Joshua (or as big, Clottey was probably 160+ of pure muscle on fight night)so even if Pacquiao’s shots aren’t always landing clean, Floyd will still feel them.

Plus Pacquiao unveiled a new body attack style that we haven’t seen before. Castillo beat Floyd in their first fight in my, and many others’, opinions and he did it with MEASURED aggression, constant head movement, and hitting opening in the head AND body. For some reason, Floyd’s opponents always go for headshots, but that’s a bad strategy. You need to feint to the head, when he raises his shoulder to cover up, he exposes his body on his left side… PERFECT for hooks to the body, especially from a southpaw with power.

If Pac keeps the activity constant, and forces Floyd from the center of the ring, keeps constant head movement, and alternates body and head attacks… He will break him down and win easily. I know that’s shocking for some people to read but Castillo did the same exact thing and landed 40% of his punches and all due respect to Jose, but he’s no where near the fighter Pac is now.

  • ajai says:

unfortunatly floyd would eat 1300 left hands from manny and would be too scared to come out of his shell and will loose a loopsided decision…mosley would be stopped cos mosley aint got a jab and pac moves so good for him..

  • STFU says:

Actually, I want the Pacquiao camp to choose to fight Mosely. Mayweather would beat Pacquiao’s ass for a solid 12 rounds. Pacquiao would try his bavado against Mosely who has been fighting big guys all of his life, not just the last few fights. He would take Manny’s ass and hand it back to him. Manny would experience his 3rd KO of his career.

Pacquiao make adjustments in the ring? Are you kidding me? He is as dumb inside the ring as he is out. Pacquiao is a 1 dimensional fighter. He swings away…PERIOD!

Mayweather would tag him, punish him and frustrate Pacquiao all night. NO WAY could Pacquiao even compete with Mayweather, Mosely, Bradley, Williams, or perhaps Berto!

Mayweather and Mosely would beat his ass for sure!!!

  • mosley says:

The thing with floyd yea y’all mention the 15 – 20 punches a round etc etc but the the thing is floyd is not going to let pacquiao get up to 100 punches per rd its the same game plan shane had for margarito get you punches off and disrupt there timing just enough to where they can’t get theirs the way they want by clinching or pushing off what ever mayweather is a master at clinching using elbows to move fighers around if you ever watch a floyd fight when ever floyd clinches if his right hand is free he waitng for the opponent to push him off and the minute he does that there’s a overhand right followed by a left then hell step back if you come forward either throws a lead jab to the body straight rights to the head or a lead left hook or a check hook if floyd can keep pacs punch rate under 50 its advantage mayweather hes.. imo itspacs first real text against a fighter with movement

  • gar 30 says:

I am not sure how close to his best Shane Mosley is right now. I know people are going to say he is coming off a great win (Antonio Margarito) which it was I thought Shane was magnificent!! The problem I have is I think it was a final great performance which great fighters produce at the end of their careers, just one last big performance.

I really hope I am wrong becouse I am a big Shane Mosley fan I just think the signs that Shane is in decline were there in the Mayorga fight.

I think that Mayweather might need a couple of rounds under his belt however due to inactivity in the last two or so years which could give Mosley an early lead in the first half of the fight on his pressure which he will surely try to win this fight with but from the midway point of the fight I just see Floyd taking over and Shane missing more punches and getting countered more and more often as he tires and Floyd Mayweather winning a tough but unanimous decision.

Prove me wrong Shane please!! I hope this shows that the Mayorga fight was just a bad day at the office and you hand Mayweather his first defeat!!

  • t3xA$ M@D3 says:

Yall manny fans are stupid, always saying mayweather wants to make a whole bunch of demands to get out of the fight peep this.MAYWEATHER wanted 60/40 MANNY WANTED 50/50(MANNY DON’t fight for money. lol)Mayweather agreed.Manny wanted a rediculous weight penalty of $10million for every pound over 147 they came in.Mayweather agreed.Manny chose the gloves.Mayweather agreed.Manny chose the size of the ring. Mayweather agreed.Mayweather ask for random blood test for both of them.Manny throws a hissy fit and the fight doesnt happen cause manny don’t wanna take a drug test. Then yall say mayweather don’t wanna fight mosely. Mayweather challenges him. Then yall say mayweather is going to demand alot of stupid things to mosely to get out of the fight.Mayweather ask mosely to take random blood test and Mosely accepts and the fight is going happen. Now yall say mayweather is finna lose and he most likely finna prove yall wrong again. So what yall wanna predict next?

  • rob says:

to be honest if mayweather wins then the fight has to ahppen no excuse….floyd wants blood testing that isnt going away so isntead of ignoring it compromise ..dont say get rid of it ..if u want this fight to happen people have to compromise for the fans which for the first time floyd was doing last time specially since pac team did agree to the testing up until the day before the fight he backed up 14days which was fair…he said hes not doing that this time but hopefully for the fan he will this is a fight that eneds to happena nd both ahve to give way for the fight not just floyd and not just manny both of these fighters need this fight because how can you really say your the best if there are two greats in the same divsion and dont fight thats jsut stupid..

  • Cam says:

If someone hits you right just about any fighter can be hurt. People are saying theirs no way that Floyd can hurt Manny. I don’t believe that, like I said if Manny misses 1,000 punches against Floyd he will get 1,000 counter punches to his head. Death by a thousand right hands.

  • Cam says:

Shane Mosley is the only guy who has a serious chance of beating both Pacquiao and Mayweather Jr in the welter weight division. I never imagined that Clottey’s name would even be considered by Pacquiao as an opponent, becuase he has proven again, and again that the heart to dig down and win is not their, and I think he got his chance to prove that one last time yesterday in front of a crowd of 51,000 people. That’s his last big fight.

  • MosleyMark says:

My ONLY FEAR is that this fight May/Mo isn’t just
ANOTHER Pay Day like we saw in PAC/Clottey fight.
I have allready RSVP my Vegas trip and was all excited, BUT
After this weekends fight, I am worried it is just another payday
    for them all: (
    GoldenBoy and Mayweather Promotions

  • Amain says:

I think Mayweather will beat Mosley by decision. Mayweather will be the favorite against Pacquiao and I think Mayweather will also win that fight by decision. If Pacquiao faces Mosley I think Pacquiao would win either by decision or KO.

  • rob says:

clottey is nowehre near a marquez let alone a floyd clottey just covers up and sits their liek a big rock lol…he is caleld a counter puncher ebcause he fits nowhere else…hes not a great fighter..his biggest win was judah due to a cut.. yea pac throws a lot of punches but i think the connect percentage will be like clottey or maybe less and this time floyd wil throw punches abck unlike clottey he dosnt throw alot of punches mainly because he controlling the tempo of the fight and theres noway i see pac throw almoost 1300punches at floyd just because he has someone fighting back…the reason why pac throw so much because he had noone throwing back because a rock dosnt throw back so he just kept throwing and throwing to hope to crack it…its going to be a great fight because their are so many ways to say how this fight will win and how dis one will lose..instead fo fight fans going at eachother they need to go at the promotors and make this fight happen so we dont have to keep debating on it anymore and actually watch it..

  • Jesus... says:

Floyd can’t hurt Manny, and he can’t outwork him. His camp obviously is worried otherwise they would’ve signed on to fight him like they did they’re previous 40 opponents. But they saw something that made them want to hold up negotiations and change the rules of boxing.

That doesn’t scream confidence or ‘I can beat him easily’ to me.

“If I was lil’ Floyd, I wouldn’t fight him [Pacquiao]“-Floyd Sr.

  • motownhitman says:

Mosley is not old and he isn’t going to show his age when he fights Floyd. Floyd however will fight the smarter fight and his skills will win him the fight.

  • motownhitman says:

Pac would lose to Shane by KO and Floyd will box circles around Pac.

  • Cam says:

Comparing Clottey’s counter punching ability to Floyd’s is foolish. Floyd is much, much faster, and has better timing than Clottey. Trust me if Pacquiao misses Floyd will capatalize on it.

  • Jesus... says:

    Cam,

Brother Naazim has proven he knows how to rejuvenate a fighter’s career and help them reinvent themselves. Bernard Hopkins had a bunch of fights where he was the underdog and had no business winning but he ended up dominating much younger opponents (Pavlik, Tarver, etc) when he should’ve been collecting social security checks.

I’m sure he has a master gameplan for Floyd, so I’m excited to see how Shane carries it out. It’s been so long since Shane fought and we really have no idea how his body has held up through 2 consecutive training camps at age 38.

  • Cam says:

You can’t miss close to 1,000 punches against a counter puncher like Mayweather. I know Mayweather doesn’t have the kind of one punch KO power people would like to see but those punches do damage and if you miss alot with a counter puncher it will start to add up especially if you miss 1,000.

  • Jesus... says:

    Rob,

Clottey is a counter puncher and a guy who has always made his opponents look AWFUL, even when they beat him. He even said it himself- his strategy was to cover up and wait for counter opportunities, but Pacquiao was too fast and he didn’t want to open up because he knew he would be caught and probably go down for the first time in his career.

And Marquez was a really good counter-puncher in the lower weights, but he made Pac struggle by taking the fight to him and pressing the action, not laying back and trying to absorb punches. That’s how you have to beat Manny- you have to stay active for every minute of every round and don’t let him dictate the action, counter-punching is effective but is useless if you’re just laying back hoping he’ll get tired.

When was the last time Floyd took any sort of chance in a match? He hasn’t since he was a lightweight in my estimation. And there’s no way in hell he would against Pac… the Mayweather camp has made it abundantly clear that they’re worried about Pacquiao’s speed and power, plus him being a southpaw puts even more doubt into them, especially Sr.

  • Cam says:

I think Mosley has the stamina to go 12 rounds but with his power and how easy it is to hit Pacquiao he might not need all 12. As far as him being outboxed by Cotto that’s when he had his father as his trainer he has Nazim Richardson now, and that makes a big difference. If Shane fought Cotto again the fight wouldn’t go past 10 cause Shane would deck him.

  • Bob says:

Jesus, I agree people don’t get it Floyd throws 20 to 30 punches a round Pacquiao throws 100. Even if Floyd lands at 50% which I doubt that 15 punches landed per round at the most. Pac at worst misses 80% of punches still out lands Mayweather with this ratio. Pacs punches are more damaging. Floyd always gives up the first couple of rounds trying to tire his opponent out. then comes strong in round 7. This game plan won’t work agnist Pacquiao because unlike Delahoya or Hatton who were tired in round 7, Pac will still come strong. Floyd will have to open up when he’s behind in the cards and this is a dangerous spot for Mayweather because Pac can catch him and knock him out or down.

  • rob says:

to jesus a good response but he hasnt fought a good counter puncher which gives pac the most problems since marquez so you dont really know if thos flaws are gone since he hasnt foguht an opponent to bring out those flaws …and mayweather has the ebst defesne in the game and a better counter puncher then marquez and quicker hands and better timing thats why i go with floyd …but if pac shows counter punchers dont effect him anymore then its going to be a fight to close to call…its goign to be one of those fights who style works best will win on that night…i dont think if they found best out of 3 there would be someone who would win all three

  • Jesus... says:

No question about it Cam, Shane does pack a punch. But does he have the speed and stamina to keep up with Pac. He couldn’t outbox Cotto, and Miguel had no idea where Pac’s punches were coming from they were so quick.

Right now, no one in the welters can beat Pacquiao in my opinion… unless of course Paul Williams can still make 147.

  • Cam says:

If Pacquiao was to fight Shane Mosley the last thing he would want to do was test Shane’s power. That man hits harder than Cotto and Clottey combined. Shane stopped Margaritto and I would put Margaritto’s chin up their with Clottey’s.

  • motownhitman says:

    Kaku313 – It’s not Manny, it’s his promoter.

  • motownhitman says:

Donovin, there are a few flaws in Manny’s game…1. he lacks defense. 2. he gets frustrated when people box him so at times he loses his focus. 3. even though he throws from different angles he is prone to being outboxed when his opponent keeps him at bay with the jab. 4. he leaps into his punches and since he is short, a counter puncher with longer arms would have an easy target

  • Jesus... says:

Donovin proving that there are TRUE boxing fans out there, not just weird zealots for certain fighters :applause:

I agree with you, I’m a big fan of Manny as well as Shane, never really cared for Floyd though. But Manny is just seemingly invincible at this point, all of his ‘weaknesses’ from earlier in his career have been ironed out by Roach (went from a one-hand puncher to being dangerous w/ both, footwork and ring movement are impeccable, and he always comes in with solid game-plans to blow away his formidable opponents). He’s just got that Tyson aura of invincibilty right now, but as we know anyone can be taken out (I’m looking at you, Buster).

It will take a fighter’s best performance ever to even have a chance at beating Manny now.

  • Haku313 says:

People still dont get it?! Manny Pacquiao will only fight certain fighters! He WILL NOT fight Mosley,Mayweather, Valero, Bradley jr., Berto, etc… His next fight will be Margarito, a slow, flat footed, easy to hit fighter. Who just got his ass beat and hasnt faught in a year! This is Mannys IMO.

  • Jesus... says:

A Pacquiao vs Mosley fight would be dynamite and that’s the one the fans should be screaming for, not Floyd. A Mayweather-Pacquiao fight would look the same as the Clottey fight: Manny pressuring, throwing 100 punches per round w/ speed, power, movement, and hitting from all angles and Floyd cowering behind his philly shell afraid to open up and take any risks. Don’t know why people want to see that so badly.

Pac-Shane would go the way of Pac-Cotto, only more competitive in the earlier rounds. It would be a slugfest for the ages, both guys love to fight and I think it would be a back-and-forth affair for the first 4 rounds but Pacquiao’s resilience and his advantages in speed, power, and stamina would wear Shane down and his corner would throw in the towel around the 10th or 11th round.

  • Donovin says:

I probably one of the biggest Mayweather fans out there, but in saying that I must admit Manny is a bad bad man. Whether its Mayweather or Mosely (I’m picking Mayweather of course) who faces Pac Man next, either is going to have to fight the fight of their lives. I’m simply having a hard time finding any flaws in Pacquiao game at this point in his career. He’s an all time great, no doubt about it…and this is coming from a Mayweather fan.

  • Free one says:

Don’t matter 2 me.. Just wanna c top ones going at each other.., no cherry picking or baby crying.. Ther r tha top 3 ww or top 3 p4p king.. They have 2 fight

  • motownhitman says:

Boxing is not all about power and some people don’t get that…there are various types of pain that can be inflicted. You have some people who have one punch power then you have others who don’t have one punch power but will punish you. Floyd is not a one punch KO fighter however he will punish you. Getting hit by crisp clean punches is not the same as betting hit by wide looping thudding punches. Manny may not get KO’d by Floyd but he in all likelihood he will be punished…so to think that Manny would just walk thru Floyd’s punches is foolish thinking.

  • bri says:

doesnt matter what floyd or mosley can do to him because he wont fight eather fighter. mannys next apponent if antonio margarito probably in september or november. and for the record floyd would kill that boy, it wouldnt even be a fight. mosley will put those lights out in 4 or 5 rounds. thats why he fought cotto and not mosley even though mosley was willing to dry out to 140 pounds. pacman will keep doing what he has done the last two years. fight loosers of big fights never the winner. and no one will watch his next fight. except the 50 thousand people in the texas stadium that will pay as little as 15 dollers to get in.
