Mitchell vs. Katsidis: Who wins?

By Sam Gemmell: Frank Warren has won the purse bid for the fight between Kevin Mitchell (31-0(23) and Michael Katsidis (26-2(21), which is expected to take place in May, 2010. The fight will be held somewhere in England, with the O2 Arena in London looking most likely.

Mitchell, 25, has looked great in his last two fights, firstly boxing the ears off Breidis Prescott in a 12 round unanimous decision win in December, 2009.

On that night Mitchell showed he was more then just a brawler in winning a points decision over Prescott. Two months later, Mitchell then knocked out Colombian tough man Ignacio Mendoza in 2 rounds in February 2010.

Katsidis is a very very tough lightweight, who has a good chin, excellent power and is very aggressive. Katsidis looked good in beating Vicente Escobedo by a 12 round split decision last time out in September 2009.

I expect the Mitchell-Katsidis bout to be a real classic. We have two real tough guys who like to brawl, but the difference will be Mitchell’s superior all round game. Mitchell has everything that Katsidis has and a little bit extra in the way of boxing ability. I see Mitchell getting put down maybe once in this fight, but so will Katsidis. Eventually, the fight will be close until the mid-late rounds when I see Mitchell knocking out Katsidis. i just feel Michael has been in too many wars.

    Good article Sam,
Kat’s tough but Mitchell can mix it or stand off and box this is gonna break Kat’s heart.

That said it’s a tough night for both….

    ….It’s War……C’mon Kev

  • Joe ko! says:

Interesting thing is that Mitchell has the height and range advantage

Mitchell also has a good chin and good power I see Mitchell winning by late TKO or UD

  • oscar says:

katsidis points , really hope kevin can pull it off he has a very good chance but feel katsidis will just draw him out his game into a slug match. come on kevin!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sam Gemmell says:

@ash the amount of times i get asked wether im related to him is unreal! haha cheers

  • Bruno says:

mitchell all the way!!! not many will find it easy against him

  • mark fletcher says:

Mitchell wins it for me, Katsidas is great to watch but can only go forward looking for the big punch, Mitchell shown against Johansonn that he can go into the trenches and shown against Prescott that he can box on the backfoot and still cause damage, and with the same vunrabilitys as Hatton, I wouldnt be suprised if Katsidas got busted open early.

Finally a positive article on an English boxer, what’s going on? ….oh yeah, that scum-bag xenophobe gillfraud’s not writing it (writing hardly the appropriate word). Good article, thanks Sam….Any relation to Archie?

  • Sam Gemmell says:

@king khan that guy gilfoid is a toal wierdo, all he does is write about british fighters and how there are going to lose.

the funniest prediction of gilfoids was khan getting ko’d by salita early on LOL

  • King Khan says:

Thank god for this article after Reading that nob Scott gilfoid.. I agree with the writer a late KO for Mitchell the boy has got serious skills and will be one of the leading lightweights in the world

  • Sam Gemmell says:

@ Kim i agree with you Mitchell looked horrible in that fight, but that was at super-featherweight where he was weight drained, also he has switched trainer and at lightweight he looks a much better fighter. I agree Mitchell should use his skills in this fight, but also he should trade at times, just to show who is bossing the fight. it’s gonna be an excellent fight guys, hope you like my articles

  • Slimmm says:

Good article and the 2nd one in a row that totaly contradics what scotty guifroid has been saying Guifroid you have been offficially owned!!

  • Kim says:

    Mitchell never close to losing?

You didn’t see the Johanesson fight then? Mitchell was out on his feet.

Mitchell needs to avoid a war.

If he boxes smart he wins UD.

If it’s a war he gets KTFO

  • Anthony 20 says:

Good article. I think Katsidis has the edge in power but ye Mitchell can out box him and take him out in the late rounds

  • Pete says:

Mitchell has never looked close to losing a fight, I see this as a tough fight but I’m going to back Mitchell to win. He is quicker, can counter well and can bang. I see Mitchell being one step ahead in this fight and winning by either KO or 12 round decision.

Mitchell is a world champion in waiting, I see him being trouble for anyone he faces.
