Mayweather-Mosley to begin drug testing on Monday
By Benjamin Dover: Floyd “Money” Mayweather and “Sugar Shane Mosley” will begin the USADA gold standard anti-doping program on Monday, March 22nd as they continue to prepare for their clash titled “Who R U Picking?” which it set to take place on Saturday May 1st at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas live on HBO PPV.
Mayweather said: “I am excited that Shane Mosley and I are willing to take these tests to ensure a fair fight on May 1st, I just want to show the world that boxing is a clean sport and my hope is that all fighters will take a similar stance and responsibility which reflects sportsmanship at the highest level and sets a new standard for safety in boxing.”
Mayweather’s opponent Shane Mosley said: “I think that the testing is a great idea and I didn’t hesitate for one minute about agreeing to it, lets hope the rest of the boxing world follows mine and Floyd’s example.”
Both fighters seem very keen to participate in the testing process and one thing is clear about the fight, whoever wins May 1st, they will know that they have won the fight fairly and cleanly. The same as the boxing fans around the world will see. I think this is going to be a great fight and one not to be missed.
Mayweather-Mosley live May 1st.

@JAYSMOOTH
Floyd’s PEDs accusation is baseless while Pacquiao’s $10 million penalty over the weight limit is justified. Floyd is a
coward, a liar and a cheat.
This needs to be congratulated. This will be a standard practice for all world titles and other big fights. Progressive commissions will implement these very soon as is the case in Sauerland already.
It will still be a challenge in small and poor countries but fighters from such areas will have to be clean so that if they make it big and they fight for world titles they are read for this stringent method of ensuring fairness.
Lastly, this is done for the safety of fighters primarily as we have had boxers die in the ring or just after being hammered by their opponents. We can not leave anything to chance because people don’t all share the same values of honesty and integrity. We have seen in sports today as people get paid millions they do anything and everything to win.
As boxing fans, we need to support this and be happy that it started during our era. From now on, we will be able to separate real greats from cheats.

Why is NSAC allowing Mayweather to dictate his own drug testing terms? The governing body should have a standard set of rules without conditions, stipulations, provisions, requisitions or even contingencies to ensure a fight will take place. Aren’t they suppose to be the commission? They look like more of a counselor rather than the authority.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
They are not allow Floyd to dictate anything. Just like they didn’t step in and tell Manny that he couldn’t ask for 10 million dollars per lb over why should they step in and stop Floyd from negotiating. The opponents can easily say “NO” just as Manny did.

I think its funny this notion that Manny needs Floyd.Primarily I find it amusing because when asked weather he needs Floyd Manny appears perplexed as if to say all I really need is my family and God.Of coarse I dont actually know what he thinks but hes not watching TMZ or other mind rot fodder we North Americans are subjected to thus I dont believe his mind resides in the gutter like Floyd.Heres somthing to ponder what if the tables were turned and it was Manny pulling off the same b.s. as Floyd what would the Floyd fans be saying about Manny.?Come on Floyd lovers what would you be thinking mabey Mannys scared?
This USDA testing demanded by Floyd has NOTHING to do with cleaning up the sport of boxing…..it has all to do with one word….wait for it…..EGO!! the Mayweathers egos are so big, they can’t fathom how Pacquaio could possibly do what Lil Floyd has not, would not, and never will do.
The best thing to cone out of Floyds transparent smear campaign of Manny is the publicity. You can argue it might be a more effective tool than petitioning a commission behind closed doors to improve the testing regimen.
I don’t buy the motives behind Floyds Johnny Appleseed Crusade, but I can’t complain about two fighters mutually agreeing to improved anti-doping testing. Mosley had every right to turn down the request also.
I have a feeling GBP may get all their fighters on this plan, and if they don’t then those fighters might have a cloud of suspicion over THEM instead. As if to say “if GBP Fighter X is doing the USADA testing, why isn’t GBP Fighter Y or Z doing it too?
If they are consistent between now and the fight, however, Manny will not have much of a choice but to agree to the same if he wants to clear the suspicion. Unfortunate for Manny, but a fact nonetheless.
Of course, it’s not unfortunate for him if it turns out he WAS a dirty fighter, but it doesn’t add up for me, at least not until someone brings better evidence to the table (or he tests positive).

If requesting more testing for a fight is considered dodging , that is disturbing.
I hear people use the arguement that Ray Leonard, Hagler, and other greats weren’t subject to extra testing so why should today’s fighters be? Come on guys, you know the answer to that question.
As much as people don’t like Floyd Mayweather, the truth is more extensive testing is something the commision should have established a long time ago. If you can put the whole Pacquiao, and Mayweather situation behind you for a second,
no matter who you’re a fan of you have to admit that more testing can only help the sport not harm it.
This type of testing will never be the standard in boxing because it is too expensive. Floyd fights will be the only one to feature this kind of testing. No other fighters will ask for it. It will never catch on.
with the german commission doing it and i hear the new york commission is currently investigating implementing the testing protocol. You know once new york does it,its going to be hard for the other U.S commissions to resist. The door is closing in on pacroid, i suggest he retire quickly because soon it will be impossible to dodge random tests and no amount of b.s excuses will save him
It is so funy how people just read what they want even if it is not there. URINE TESTING is a part of the program. They can test urine or blood or any other approved test at any time. They may take urine or they may take blood, simple as that.
I disagree that we should all just wait around for the commission to do something. I am glad that one of the best and most recognized fighters in the world is in the forfront. Now we have two of the Top 5 in the world taking these test. The commission is behind the times and I never trust any type of governing body to be on the cutting edge.
Fact is, people better get used to it because more and more fighters are going to do it and everyone will know who ushered it in. Within 5 years these test will be MANDATORY, mark it down.
Good info. This is a respectable move by both PBF and SSM. It is also respectable that other figures in the sport are following suit. While these are small steps, in the grand scheme of things, they are very meaningful. All this “Floyd is not bigger than the Commission talk” is meaningless. The simple fact is, the Commission will, eventually, follow suit, as more promoters and fighters embrace the testing…or the Commission will be chagrined. It may not happen this year or even the next, but, it, most likely, WILL happen.
For those who say PBF HAD to do this or risk losing credibility, for asking for asking Pac to do OSDT. He lost credibilty with many fans regardless. So why should he really care, at this point? Surely, he knew by the end of the negotiations, he’d polarized plenty of fans. If he didn’t know, he damn sure knows now. But, regardless of that, he continued to pursue what he wanted (a big fight, in which both opponents are UNQUESTIONABLY clean), and has achieved that. The Commission could not provide what he needed, so he financed it himself. That is not disrespecting the Commission. He’s giving them a major event and not requiring anything extra of them, to do so. I’ve not seen an article where the Commission was complaining. Did they have objections about this during the negotiations, between Floyd and Manny? NO. In fact they said this was a matter between the fighters….period. Whether folks want to admit it or not, he is setting a good example, by remaining consistent with the testing request, and others are, evidently, taking notice.
Still respect his skills in the ring though.
Mr. Rich,
What can I say, I just don’t like the guy haha. At least I’m being honest.
Well good for you Floyd! Changing lives one test at a time. Keep doing what you do, I’ll crack a 40 for you later tonight!
Lets see how this testing works out. And then maybe that will convince the commission to IMPLEMENT this procedure for all sanctioned fights.
Mosley did lose some credibality failing the drug test after the 2nd DLH fight. But this move (along with his overall career) shows how much of a stand up guy he is.
Floyd, man up and have some balls to fight the PACMAN!
@preston
Thanks for posting that! All new news is good news.
Mario- Abraham and Kessler are not being told to take the test by some “commission”……this is being done by the promoter.
“German promoter Sauerland has extended their TV deal with German network ARD through 2015. As a condition to the extension, Saulerland will need to conduct Olympic style drug testing on its fighters under the supervision of the German National Anti-Doping Authority. In addition, this testing will be performed on opponents of Sauerland fighters. This, in turn, means that the fighters in the Super Six will be subjected to random drug testing, for instance, as both Arthur Abraham and Mikkel Kessler are with Sauerland. Already, the new policy has swept out one Sauerland opponent. Sebastian Sylvester was supposed to face Pablo Navascues a few weeks ago, but Navascues was knocked out of the fight when he flunked a random pre-fight drug test. It’s a small step, but it’s a positive first step in the right direction.”
@ wowzabean
Come on dude, i know you are a big Pacquiao fan…. i know this from your posts.
but cant you find anything good to say about this situation? Ragardless of Mayweathers reasons for wanting the tests he has got the ball rolling on something that could truely change boxing for the better. And now it appears that other boxers are jumping on board.
I know you are a Pacquiao fan, but unlike most you usually back up your arguments with some type of logic. This time however you just come across as a bitter person.
Havnt seen one Pac fan say anything good about this……. i find that strange indeed
AHHH! Their “random” blood testing begins on Monday, March 22nd. Hmmm, if they know when it’s gonna start, how could it be “Random” then??? Here’s a qustion for floydocaine, when’s the next “test”?
As for abraham n kessler the comission order blood test for now on that’s why they are takin the test as for here floyd just demanded it
you are all moron mayweather fans here… For the record, the ACCUSATIONS ARE/WERE BASELESS… If Chicken floyd says pacman is just a one-dimensionla and ordinary fighter, then why make such demand. Just fight…But nadah, he’s afraid to lose his 0 with the pacman…hehehe. That’s the simple truth…
wowza- So, now Floyd has his “rep” to salvage………lololol…….most certainly not with you Pac fans….lolol. I dont hear ANY pac fans applauding Floyd for “kepping his word”……..quite the contrary….I definately dont hear you saying anything good about Floyd for doing this with Mosely…..sounds more like a dam if he do or dam if he dont deal to me. I cant believe the different angles you guys try to throw into this equatiion. Now, Floyd’s “rep” is on the line……..lololo, ……….he “had” to ask Mosely to take the test because his “rep” was on the line…………lolol….ok, now I have really heard it all.
mayweather has to do his job before before he opens his mouth again. that is beating Mosley. If he loses this fight…it will be shane mosley vs pacquiao. floyd might regret not taking up pacquiao before if he loses. all this drug testing stuff is all but nonsense. noone is bigger that the commission. i mean no one. let the commission do their job and lets all get on with it. all other items on the negotiating table can be amended…glove sizes, money split, over the weight limit penalty…but when it comes to drug testing…the commission handles it. that’s why it is there. floyd disrespects all the fighters that ever fought in the state of nevada. it would be deemed that all the past fighters were dirty…and that includes oscar dela hoya.
lex- good info on Arthur Abraham and Kessler, as they have subjected themselves to the random blood testing……….If you Pac Fans have such a problem with the testing, where is the outcry now????????…….”Arthur Abraham will now have Olympic Style Drug Testing in all of his fights.”………so, as more and more boxers subject themselves to this, what will Pac do??????? And how long will his fans continue to play this game????? What is wrong with boxers taking random blood test to prove that they are clean?????? Has Abraham or Kessler ever tested positive for steroids?????? What are they trying to prove then?????…….Not anything more or less than Pac……but, they are freely taking this test to show that they have nothing to hide.
preston,
Yes, yes he did. He’s running his mouth about cleaning up the sport. You don’t think he’d look bad if he didn’t request the same thing from his next fighter? A mega fight didn’t push through because of this issue, all faults aside. If you don’t think it’d ruin his rep for not being consistent on this issue, you’re sadly misguided. YES, he had to, and will have to CONTINUE to, ask for tests.
and how childish are you guys…the article didnt say that they were going to start testing on monday………….it says that the PROGRAM will begin…….how hard is that to comprehend???????? They might get tested on monday….they might not, but the random testing program will commence on monday………..only a pac fan would be sooo stubborn here.
wowza- What is up with you guys……He “had” to follow up??????? He didnt “have” to do anything….geesh………Mayweather didnt “have” to do this in his fight with Mosely, no more than Pacquiao “had” to take the test with Mayweather………..which he refused……….man, this crap is getting old……..forget about Pac, and lets admit that there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with random blood testing…
Goodluck to Floyd and Shane! They’re old enough to decide for themselves. But if Floyd wants $40m he knows whom to go to.
I thought is was randomly
they should check floyd snr, he is good at selling them then accusing people of taking them
I also was wondering when this was going to start. I also was curious on what were the terms of the negotiating. ie weight, glove sizes, money split etc etc…..it seemed like when pac and may was negotiating everything was announced b4 it was even official. so far i have heard nothing from the may and mosley fight……
ben dover thats not ur real name surely hahahah
preston,
He had to follow up. If he didn’t he’d really look like he was singling out a boxer. That’s just common sense. Mosley will give his left nut to take a big fight, we all know that.
I’m a Pacquaio fan. ohofhe ehfrifhqelrfh heirlfh……I a loser. Mayweather this and Mayweather that blah, blah, blah. I know nothing about boxing but I have pride in Pacquaio because he makes my tiny country relevant.
Drug testing my @ss…this is just another circus effen show>>>
Anonymous sounds like a kid. Are you seriously sitting there saying hes scared like were on a playground? all this flomo duckweather kfc stuff is lame fo real do you guys really say that stuff in the real world? Props to floyd n shane for being men and not refusing a lil test cuz they were scared and then turning around and trying to sue em like he was on the playground looking for a teacher. look at the interview after the clottey fight look at his eyes he was scared to answer that testing question. floyd is taking this further than just pacquiao and they just dont want to do it because they dont want to give him any leverage????? So who really denied us the fight?
Very Revolutionary. Anyone who has anything bad to say about any of this need to take their 3rd world logic and kill themselves. No and I repeat no athletes have came to the front and said ” let’s show the fans and the betting public that the bets are good. The battle is won before it is fought. I think Sun Tzu said that. Much respect to Floyd and Shane. Floyd on the cards in a tough battle…
Lets all for one minute look at this totally void of Pac. Yes, Floyd may have started this with Pac, but it doesnt appear as if he is stopping it after Pac, and I have to admit, that this is a breath of fresh air for boxing. It doesn’t get any worse for boxing to find out that its participants are illegally doping for fights. As good as I felt for James Toney, and was hoping for better things for him, I was totally disgusted with him for testing positive of steroids when he beat Ruiz. I and everybody know that the Pac fans are only against this b/c Pac had an issue with it, but this is really good for boxing.
Exactly, bring it up with the commission for a real change. Realbox, it doesn’t prove anything.
@ Anonymous
How did Mayweather use this as a way out. He could have said No to the 10 million dollar fine for every pound he was over 147. That is one way out. He could have said No to the 50 / 50 spilt since he is undefeated and the bigger draw. But he said yes to both. Manny was the one who said NO to the drug testing. If Manny wanted to fight all he had to do was say YES. Like Mayweather did. Im not telling you how to think but I ask you to think. Let say PBF is scared of Manny and thinks he is on something so he asked Manny to take a random blood test. Manny said NO. Ok u have the reason why PBF asked for the test. What is the reason Manny said NO. And don’t give me that he feels weaker. People need to start attacking the issues and the not the person who brings up the issue. So attack the ISSUES
Shame on those scared of any test, that only proves there is something to hide.
Whoever says Mayweather used the test as an excuse to avoid that bull testicle eating pedquiao is full of sh1t. Just take the test and´prove there is nothing foreign in you.
Mad props to Shane and Floyd for cleaning up the sport and giving the fans the certainty of a drug free match.
I am looking forward to the 24/7 series as much as the fight on this one (I am praying I get it here in the UK,if not I am hoping someone will put it on youtube) mainly to see how often the possibility of the winner facing Paquiao is mentioned becouse Pacquiao against either fighter is going to be fantastic.
This series should make good veiwing with genuine dislike for each other and for the first time in a while there is a good chance that Mayweather is going to have his hands full and his toughest test at WELTERWEIGHT surely!
Arthur Abraham and Mikkel Kessler will also undergo olympic style drug tests for their future bouts, as will all fighters with the German Promoter Sauerland.
Props 2 both Sugar & May 4 attempting 2 clean up the sport. Just hope Pac will get over his fear of Maywthr… I mean needles, & fight the winner…. Comissions need 2 get on board 2 make sure big fights arent prevented from happenin.
mayweather only started demanding these tests (in my opinion) cos he is afraid of the pacc man & wanted to find a way out of the fight. i hope mosley smashes him to bits.
And oh… it’s pretty paper-thin who Floyd is referring to when he says: “My hope is that all fighters will take a similar stance,” and when Mosley says: “Lets hope the rest of the boxing world follows mine and Floyd’s example.”
But to be honest, when it’s presented in this fashion, I actually can understand the argument a little better. I still think it should be lobbied to the Boxing Commissions and not to the honor of athletes whose job it is to abide by the rules of their sport.
…ryan
They both put their money where their mouths were and agreed to UNLIMITED, 24/7 drug testing up until the fight and afterward. This is the most stringent tests in the world and WE KNOW they will both be clean.
Of course, the Pac Fan Boys are going to come on here and bash them over it, but both of these fighters should be congratulated on pioneering a testing structure THAT ALL OF BOXING should adhere to.
Was wondering about this actually. Thanks for the update!
