Maidana confident he will knockout Khan
By Scott Gilfoid: Knockout artist Marcos Maidana (27-1, 26 KO’s) is very confident about his chances at beating World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan in the future. In press release sent out yesterday, the 26-year-old WBA light welterweight interim champion Maidana said this about Khan: “He will not be able to resist my power, and if he is, then I am prepared to win on points. Khan wouldn’t like to face me at this moment. That shows his intelligence.” Gosh, I have to agree with Maidana.
The only way I see Khan surviving for long in this fight is if he literally sprints around the ring for 12 rounds. Even that probably wouldn’t work for him, because I think Maidana catch up to him at some point in the fight and blast him down with some massive shots to the head.
Maidana faces the unbeaten Victor Cayo (24-0, 16 KO’s) next Saturday night at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Cayo, 25, may turn out to be a lot tougher opponent for Maidana than Khan. Cayo is 5’11”, very hard to hit because of his crafty defensive style of fighting, throws a lot of punches and has decent power. He’s kind of like a slow and smaller version of Roy Jones Jr. He’s very hard to beat, and I’m not sure that Maidana will beat him. I think Cayo will win on points in this fight.
But I the weird thing is, I think Khan beats Cayo because of his better hand speed. As they say, styles make fights. Cayo will be very tough for Maidana because he won’t just stand and trade with him all night long. He’ll move, make Maidana chase after him and pick him off with counter punches. It’s an ugly style to watch, there’s no question, but its’ effective.
If Cayo had more power and speed he’d be something special. But he’s blinding fast and lacks big power. I can see him taking of punishment in the Maidana fight but coming out on top with a decision. Maidana does well against fighters that come at him at and try to trade.
Cayo won’t be doing that. He’ll stay on the outside with his hands low, bending backwards to avoid Maidana’s shots whenever he tries to land anything. Where I can see Maidana having his moments is when they get in close. Maidana has short arms, and is able to generate enormous amounts of powers even when only a short distance away. If he can get close to Cayo, I can see him hurting him with something and either putting him down or making the fight close.

Like Oli said mate!
ann you not got washing or polishing gardening nappys to change no husband to see to plz a mere con isnt that good he will make a few more mill then run into the sunset just like a certain fatton
I agree with maidana, I believe maidana with shatter little ole khan’s jaw into pieces. He a knockout artist!!
very funy oli, i’ll remember that comment. remember hell hath no fury like a women scorned
Ann, is “Prescott” one of those bums who Kevin Michell beat and the same Prescott that knocked Khan out in minutes, and the same sort of bums fought by khan like Gomez Limond who both manage to deck Khan.
both these fighters are overrated. who the hell has maidana KO’d considered in the top level? the closest in that level was someone he couldnt KO. He stopped ortiz but so did khan when they were amateurs. khan has an underrated chin and overrated hand speed. first, he spars with manny..so what? so do 20 other guys. abotu his chin, if anyone got hit with that shot by prescott they would have been badly hurt too. that was just a lucky shot with khan being careless.
maidana very overrated, how many times did he get KD by ortiz? if someone with power hit him with clean shots 3 times, he wouldnt be standing. he has no defense, he comes in straight.
Khan by KO!
Don- i agree. How can you have a serious boxing talk with a woman? We wouldnt talk to you about cookery, or hair extensions, so dont talk to us about boxing please thanx
@ ann
What are you going on about? “John Murray and Kevin Mitchell only fight bums” What sort of statement is that? Kevin Mitchell recently beat the guy that wiped Khan out in a matter of seconds who by the way Khan has made no attempt to get a rematch with! Mitchell is also in training for a fight with Michael Katsidis who i think most people feel would deal with Khan handily too. Cracks me up how women think they’re qualified to make statements like that when they really have no clue!
Plastic over-hyped glass chin khan is beyond doubt THE most crappiest so-called ‘boxer’ EVER (carefully produced) to come out of Great Britain! Straight out of the same mould as the other ‘foreign’ mouthy yid.. and anti social cry baby, Princess Naseem. That’s not an opinion, it’s a fact! I am an irish bare fisted warrior with an experts eye and awesome breathtaking speed. My fists are like half-house bricks and i’d love to put just one flush into that glass jaw face of khan. Timberrrr!!!
maidana piles the pressure on from the start and spends the whole fight chasing and stalking his opponents. think about gomez v khan and how hard that was for khan with the onslaught. remember the glancing blow that knocked him down. he will have to exchange with maidana at some point, and i dont think he can drive maidana backwards either. even with a great game plan and alot of movement from khan he really is doomed. this explains why maidana was payed to take a hike and get lost forever. i excpect they are hoping he will lose to cayo and khan wont have to face him.
r u guys blind ??? maidana lost to adamek cuz he fought in germany and went 12 rounds …its like fighting juan diaz in TEXAS…….!!!!! IDIOTS!!
Maidana agreed to delay his fight with Khan because he knows he’ll be back to boxing in bingo halls in Germany when he gets beat.
Golden Boy, Roach, and Amir Khan himself are also confident that Maidana would knock Khan out. Thats obvious by the way they’ve done everything within their power to stop maidana getting his title shot
Maidana, Maidana, Maidana… boy this kid is getting some publicity off the back of Amir Khan. He had his title shot and got beat. He got beat by the guy that Khan destroyed with ease.
Maidana is over-rated and will get his head punched off by Khan… thats if he can stay unbeaten, which is unlikely given the fact he leaves his chin out to dry in every fight.
people…all fighters that you mentioned here can knock out by pacquiao!stop arguing!
i strongly agree Maidana by knockout easily
west…
‘stopping maidana with a flurry of punches’ hahahahaha.
do you really think flurries are going to cut it with a ‘real’ fighter, maidanas not shot or tiny. hahaha khan couldnt stop a real man in the ring with a flurry, maidana will walk through whatever he has and knock him into next year, he’ll probably go flying out the ring
“DEluded” Scott Guilford strikes again!

& you do not have the brain to think Freddie Roach & Amir Khan will think of the exact same strategy to beat Maidana?
I’m sure you saw the Ortiz fight & how easy Maidana was to hit? Think what faster hands & a taller opponent inKhan could ddo t oa slugger in Maidana?
Quote:
fnwo1..the difference here is that Maidana.. has gotten up to keep fightning and even winning…. never the case for Kahn.
Wrong! Khan has gotten off the canvas and won a few times
Its very possible that Cayo will win this fight and its exactly what Khan wants as he’ll feel his speed will be enough to deal with Cayo but Maidana will chase him down and ko him with a jab. Maidana has some serious power and is one of the more exciting fighters in the division and deserves a title shot and Khan needs to prove as champion he can deal with this type of fighter or is every slugger a ko defeat for him.
NewYorker, i’m not a Khan fan but if your saying he never got up off the canvas to win then you didn’t see him fight Gomez or Limmond where he was in serious trouble and barely hung on before getting the ko himself

If Cayo had more power and speed he’d be something special.
- What makes you think that Khan wouldn’t give Maidana more problems than Cayo considering he is much, much faster, has superior movement and has power? Maidana DOES NOT have a Granite Chin himself as Victor Ortiz showed, I see Khan outboxing the slow & creud Maidana, picking him apart with his superior hand speed and then stopping him with a flurry of punches, not a clean Knockout but stoppage by TKO-
Maidana is a one trick pony and Khan has got too much skill and speed for him
maidana has a great chin and heart khan would of been out for a whole day if he would taken the punches maidana took. maidana went down and got right back up like he slipped, thats a true warrior and a hungry fighter that won’t give up. Khan does not have half the power ortiz did so unless khan chin is not as bad as it seems he will most likely get knock out badd by maidana.
This Maidana guy is way too overhyped. Homeboy ate the floor just as many times as Victor Ortiz did in their fight. It just so happens the Ortiz gave up first.
victor cayo has hardly any fights, well no full ones up on the video channel. so much for hyping maidana up and building his name up before a khan fight.
i really think cayo is a better fighter than khan going by his record and clips. he’s also tall and 25 years old with good experience. if maidana can beat him with his speed and skills he can beat khan. khan will be running backwards, paniking, falling over his feet tying to escape maidana all night. maidana will crucify him in a violent and ugly knockout which is how all of his fights apart from tough kotelnik have ended.
khan would be insane to take the fight but it’ll be entertaining anyway. i dont know if the ref will let khan back into the fight again drunk with concusion like terry o connor did so it may not be quite as harsh as the prescott ko. but it will be spectacular
The only way to know who’ll win is to match them up and Maidana-Cayo is first. Maidana beat Ortiz, so my money is on Maidana against Cayo. It’s all a guess until they fight, so set up the fights and let’s let the fighters decide.
people forget that maidana was floored by vic and he can be hurt also khan has gud power himself so dont get to over confidinet with maidana he has flaws and i can see khan exploating them
