If Mosley proves victorious how will the Mayhaters pass their time?

By Gary E G: “Mayweather is gone be beat up on his a$$ by Mosley and this KFC fool would be destroyed by Pacman!!!” These are the kind of nonsense responses im sure you have all heard on boxing articles. But if Floyd Mayweather takes a beating on May 1st by WBA welterweight champion Shane Mosley, once they have cheered aloud will the haters secretly shed a tear for the enemy?

Back in the nineties a prince called Naseem Hamed ruled the British boxing scene. He was as flash and brash a boxer as there has ever been and he backed up his haughty words with knockout after spectacular knockout. He was the man the people loved to hate (he had his fans but they soon turned against him when the bubble burst) and more importantly for his bank balance the man the people loved to watch throughout the middle years of the decade. Then he crossed the pond to conquer America and after a mad 12 minutes with Kevin Kelley he faced Marco Antonio Barrera.

I remember watching that fight that night hoping beyond hope that he would get what was coming too him. But when it came, after the initial amazement that he had finally gotten his Comeuppance I felt flat. It’s hard to hate a guy when his face is messed up and he humbly admits he was beaten by the better man. It was 6 or 7 years before Ricky Hatton became the next big thing but for me he never captured the imagination like the cocksure Prince in his prime.

Now some might argue that Hamed was a fearless, come forward, exciting boxer where as Mayweather is a win first, fight later borefest and that’s why they hate him. But for many people the thought process is if you hate one guy regardless, your part of a team and if he does lose where will Team Hater turn next because I don’t see another bad guy on the horizon.

    @ Lex..

You can hardly say that FLoyd is the biggest draw in boxing since his two biggest selling fights were against the two most popular fighters at the time.

And even if he is a big draw, it has nothing to do with his skills. People just want to see him get beat. I’m not sure how that has anything to do with his boring style.

People tuning in to watch you get your ass beat is not the same as people watching to see an exciting fight.

C’mon, can you honestly say that the DLH fight was an exciting fight? Wasn’t that fight suppose to save boxing? Didn’t that fight fail all the viewers?

  • Phoocquiao says:

They’ll say that Mosley is on that A-side meth and that Floyd wouldn’t have won even if he had a gun.

Then Mayweather will request something equally dumb and find an equally idiotic way to justify it for their re-match. If he decides to take it.

  • nino says:

boxing is better without him.I bet my life on it, if he lose he will say steriods was the key to his success.

  • sfm says:

    long live the king

  • Thomas - Yorkboxer says:

i allso salute fighter. his comment was brilliant.. take up writing articles mate

  • Manong Tagacebu says:

maybe a loss would be good for mayweather. makes him more humble.

    or maybe not. Hehehehe!!!

Whatever. I’m still watching his fights!!!

  • MbfromPhilly says:

Fighter; could not have been written and delivered any better. Your post speaks for ALL true boxing fans! Thank you Bro.

  • Bob says:

Annoymance what are you a dunce? You can’t see Pacquiao put on Muscle and Marquez did not. In the Delahoya fight Mayweather wasn’t throwing no punches the first part of the fight he waited till the 7th round to open up after Delahoya was tired. Defense and not throwing punches dosn’t win you a round. Some dumbass like you who has never boxed comes on here liking Floyds nuts and thinks he knews ever thing about boxing

  • lex_fugitive says:

All the Pacfans insist Mayweather is boring to watch. If thats the case, then why is he the biggest draw in boxing??? Over three common opponents Mayweather crushed Pacquiao’s in PPV buys. Literally crushed them. Not even close. I realize all the Pacfans hate Floyd because he exposed Pacduck for the chicken he is, but the numbers don’t lie my friends. In his 21 month retirement all the PPVs combined were less than “Money May’s” previous two fights. This included three Pacquiao fights. Those that would rather watch a toughman contest can do that, but real boxing fans will always enjoy watching an expert technician like Mayweather and his fights will always sell well; thats because he goes after the biggest fights out there. Floyd is facing Mosley the top welterweight in the world, you know the one that was “too good” for Manny? Fans want to see the top boxers face each other and that is exactly why Mayweather constantly produces huge numbers.

  • rat-a-too says:

floyd good but he also a very dirty fight too ,in that hatten fight he use his elbow way too much.close to 10 times he should have points taken away.that cortez loves floyd.but he was lucky as ricky later got careless and knock out.
but floyd ate ricky left hook all night.

  • bURN oNE says:

Mayweather is the smartest fighter of our era, hands down, and he does set people up – just take a look at the hatton fight, in round 8 with about 1:00 left he catches hatton with a check left hook, that hurt hatton, and tried to end the fight but hatton made the bell, then in round nine, when every other fighter would have tried to go after hatton, he boxed the entire round, hitting him with almost every jab, at the beggining of round 10 probably at about the 2:10 mark, they get tied up the ref seperates them and then Mayweather leads Hatton right back to the same corner where he caught him in round 8 and lands the same check left hook which leaves hatton on his back — that’s smart boxing

  • Free one says:

    Thank u junior…. U said tha rite ish….

  • Free one says:

Like Floyd as a boxer.. N I alway tot tha he’s better boxer than PAC…: smart fighter n great dpence specialist… But on his 13-16 yr boxing carreerrrrrr.. But He only fought 1-2-3 good fighter.. I just notice that .. Like I said! I’m a pacfan.. But I’m still gonna Floyd fight mosley.. I wanna c great. Fights… I’m not a hater,,, I’m a boxing fan

  • junior jay says:

I dont care if floyd loses. I aint one of these lil hoz that screams about his undefeated record. Its all about the skill. I think the people that say hes gonna be a bum or irrelevant are the ones that dont like him and wish him gone. Good point annonymous, I’ve been saying the same thing sports teams are commended for having shut down defense even if they have no offense. this is boxing and idiots wnna believe that a strong idiot win. they hate to see some one win by intelligience. I like both these guys but i want floyd to win so he can fight pac. and go back to the pac vs cotto fight and see that if pac fought a counter puncher hed get tore up all night.

  • Tbone says:

Golden boxer just said it best. Mayweather is not boring. You have to just sit and appreciate what you see. Look how he sets people up. And the versatility of his technique. When I watch his fights, i just love to watch his footwork…its amazing. you have to look at it like this as well, Mayweather has been professional since, what..2000 or so. And he has not only never lost, but never gotten beat up. He has only one official knockdown against him, the other by judah wasnt seen by the ref. thats amazing! he is named pretty boy for a reason.

  • golden boxer says:

people who find mayweathers boxing as boring don’t know nothing about boxing the way floyd boxes is a thing of beauty an art a sweet science

  • Anonymous says:

free one y would he b a bum? isnt a 40 and 1 record respectable?. ive never seen a bum wit a record like that. and if hes a bum what manny then?. hes got 3 losses does that make many a bum cubed?.

  • Free one says:

Iether he’s a bum or he’s 4 real.. That’s what we gonna found out on may1… If Floyd win.. Floyd fanzzzzzz will b like?? Told ya’ll he’s the best.. But if he looss.. It turn out tha he’s a bum..

  • BattleCat says:

@ TBONE Enjoy what?? Mayweather is as boring as they come.

  • Tbone says:

I couldnt agree more with Anonymous. I love the way Mayweather fights. He is a SMART boxer. He takes his time, and sets people up. He may not have the hardest punches, but that doesnt matter. I would rather pay 50 dollars to see a guy be so calculated and precise, that someone just throwing punches like hes blind.

Every move Mayweather makes, is calculated. The thing about someone like Mayweather is, boxers like that only come around every 20-30 yrs or so. So, ENJOY IT!

bob let me ask u something.

how is marquez a blown up fighter wit dumbels in his poket. and pacman is goin to ko floyd?. didnt pacman go to war wit marquez for 24 rounds?. wernt they the same size?. nowhow is marquez blown up and pacman not blown up?.y did marquez loose so much speed and power goin up in wieght and pacman did not loose nuthin. and if floyd beats pacman is that because pacman was a blown up fighter ?

  • Anonymous says:

nebody who thought the de lahoya mayweather fight was close is a idiot. u dun get points jus fo throwin punches. u need to LAND . de la hoya was jus throwin punches money was blokin and money was waitin fo him to gas out. and u guys just dont give him credit. but u give pacman credit fo beatin floyds leftovers?

  • Bob says:

Mayweather is unknown at this time how he’s going to handle someone like Mosley. He hasn’t fought a real threat since Castillo slapped him around. Lets be real. He has fought king of the 4 rounders Judah, Hype job Hatton who was beaten up by Collazo prior to Mayweather, 8 rounder promoter Delahoya who was winning the fight after 8 but loss the last 3 of 4 rounds. Baldamor a c Class fighter with 12 losses and than he fights a 135 pound champ who is 36 and unable to carry the wieght of 147. When I looked at that fight it looked like a middle wieght fighting a lightwieght, Marquez probably had a dumb bell in his pocket at wiegh in

  • Anonymous says:

u guys say floyd has a boring style hes not exciting. wel the baltimore ravens had absoluty no offense when they won the super bowl. and does ne body know theyr qb?.(trent dilfer). but that didnt stop them from bien in the history books. and bieng a great team. same goes wit the tampa bay bucaneers. they had no offense and theyr games were boring and all about defence and field position. but they are in the history books as well. and they were a great team also. floyds a great fighter regardles of how he fights. the football teams took advantage of he style they play. and thats what floyd does. u guys can keep on hating on this guy but hes gon b in the history books wethere u like it or not

  • Anonymous says:

    boxing fan r u seriouse?

first u guys keep sayin. all floyd talks about is pacman he cant get pacman out of his mouth, this n that. u guys kept sayin he jealouse of pacman thats y he always talks about him. and now that he dont tal bout pacman( u kno because he has a fight wit mosely he need to worry bout mosely) u start sayin hes scared?. r u seriouse?. so wat is this guy suposed to do now?. talk or not talk bout pacman?

  • boxing fan says:

i like floyd to win so that pacman can punish this kfc to submission and regret everything he said about pacman.floyd’s afraid of pacquiao was evident in his recent interview…he can’t even say pacquiao on live tv.

  • vendetta says:

After Mosley wins, I think the general response would be:

    Floyd who?
Let’s be real, the only reason people Mayweather has a following is because of his undefeated record.
The general consensus is that Floyd’s fights have garbage appeal in terms of excitement.

So, the question is…why would I pay money to watch Floyd fight after his loss?

There’s nothing to hate because after Floyd loses, he becomes irrelevant.
I’d pay more moeny to see a Victor Ortiz fight at that point.

  • Anonymous says:

lol these haters call a fighter kfc. u kno hes a fighter. i dont think ne fighter is scared. u cant jus say that. when u say that u duno shyt

  • Anonymous says:

u kno floyds always talks trash and belittles his opponents before the fight but after the fight floyds very respectfull of every fighter hesfought.he gives compliments.he jus knows how to hype a fight up. now if he losses it might change because hes never lost before. but he ain loosin. floyds not margarito. u can seem fast and strong when u fight a guy who has no defence. but mosleys gon seem slow and out of his league wit floyd. and this aint cuz hes old or had a long layoff. floyds jus that good

  • EIN says:

    @mario

“I would sit here and enjoy what Dave L,Chris W and estabon G
    will have to say”.

You’ll never hear from these writers that their guy took a beating. They will try to find excuses to appear that their guy was the one who won the fight.

    Mark my word.

  • Fighter says:

I think casual fans watch boxing for the angle this writer speaks of. Real fans don’t watch this to hate anyone. We watch to see power versus speed, talent versus courage grit, and determination; counterpuncher versus stalker, footwork versus head movement, and the many other variables in this sport.

To comment on this hating Floyd thing (which is easy to do) I dislike Floyd for many reasons. However, I respect his skill, and unquestionable legacy in this sport. As much as I can’t stand him, and his flamboyant antics, and disrespectful words and acts, I love to watch him fight, because he displays all thing great in boxing. Short of the willingness to bite down and trade a bit, but other than that, he’s been pretty flawless. Obviously, as he’s undefeated. I DO beleive the argument can be made that he has carefully cherrypicked through the years, buy you can’t say that now, because Shane is a beast. I root for Floyd sometimes. I would have if he fought Manny. This is because even though I can’t stand Floyd, I also beleive Manny is very overrated, and a technically flawed fighter who gets a golden pass from commentaters and the media. On the other hand, Versus Shane, I’m going with Shane. This is because I admire Shane as a person. He shows not only talent, but an admirable quality. He fears nothing. He fought three guys who were all but avoided in this sport. Tall awkward styles with near impenatrable defenses. And when he lost to two of them, he got up, dusted off, and got right back in there. He has no use for bashing other fighters, unless it’s in the ring. Mayweather is content peekabooing, staying at the end of the stick, and staying outside for 12 rounds. Technically boxing, but almost fearing to engage.

Call it what you will, you have to respect a fighter, weather you like him out of the ring or not. We focus on the craft, not the drama outside the ring. Fake fans fall away. All they’re good for is boosting ppv sales.

  • Sean P says:

Well done for pointing out the fact there is too many idiots posting nonsense on boards like that!!

Interesting to compare him to Naseem in the fact that he could be hated like this… i think its inevitable that mayweather will be slated by whoever he gets beat… thats why he might retire with that 0 to help him sleep at night!

  • lump from D.C says:

dont count mayweather out,its going to be a tough fight for both fighters, shane leave his self wide open and his legs not what they use to be and he gets fustrated when things dont go his way

  • wanderer says:

I believe Mayweather asked for the rematch clause. Why would he asked for that if he knows he can easily beat the “C-lister” Mosley? Probably, he sincerely knows Mosley can beat him and he’s securing a payback.

If Mayweather loses, it will be a good thing. He won’t have to worry about protecting any unblemished record and surely will fight anyone else they might throw at him. He will surely be the old Mayweather who knows how to excite fans.

Now he can brag all things then and even the Mayhaters can forgive him.

  • Lapu Lapu says:

I would watch with interest where ODLH GBP’s loyalty would be in case of a Mosley win. Mosley is contracted with GBP but somehow GBP has got a hold on Floyd even though he is not contracted with GBP. Is this because Floyd owes GBP millions of dollars.

ODLH is hoping for Floyd to win which is quite odd. Then again, he was rooting for Floyd against PACMAN even though he is getting a percentage of what PACMAN gets.

ODLH and Floyd are odd couples.

  • wowzabean says:

    All is forgiven Gary, lol.

  • Gary E G says:

Just looked at what i wrote again and I agree with WOWZABEAN and several other posters what I wrote don’t make much sense. Let that be a lesson kids never write anything.

  • wowzabean says:

Well if he does lose, he’ll fight Mosley again, there’s a clause for a rematch. I think the more appropriate question would be, “Where will all the Mayweather “fans” be come May 2nd if he loses?”

Nazim posed the same question in the LA press conference when he was being heckled by some random chic in the front row. Regardless of a win or a loss Mayweather will always be one of the greats, but as far as his fanbase and all that followed, he put too much emphasis into his goose egg. He has a lot to lose.

  • patpump says:

    A tag team ugly contest

  • neukid says:

If mosley wins by KO please dont ask for a rematch and let pacquiao fight mosley. Its no use asking for a rematch wont sell anyway.

  • Mosweather says:

Just a hunch….Floyd may offer Mosley some money (under the table) to loose the fight, he’s always bragging about getting more of the share, perhaps it’s the most logical incentive for Mosley to let him win….it’s all business anyway.

Maybe 5M, 10M, or 25M….that’s easy for Floyd.

    Pay vs 40-1 record…?

    I guess….hmmmmmmm…..

  • cody says:

    mario
    well said,

memories, if the prince was british then he would have stayed a bit longer, was there not all that race crap going on in near bradford at part of his career, come on gary the prince in the same vein as hatton, yer old man hatton

  • Frankly says:

For a start, Floyd’s unblemished records is thrown out the window, his dream of being the GOAT remains a dream and he would drop to no 3 or 4 P4P.

And……………Floyd will again be kicking himself for getting himself into the situation with his ridiculous demand for blood testing with PACMAN. So near and yet so far.

  • daveydmx says:

The Prince was pure entertainment, a great showman.
However the same cannot be said for Mayweather, technically like Bernard Hopkins a gifted boxer and defensibly superb, but likw watching paint dry . . . . . Give me Edwin Valero, PacMan, David Haye or Shane Mosley anytime

  • Pound4Pound says:

    @ Manong

I would have to agree with you on the rematch! I don’t really see Pac fighting the winner right away. The rematch clause Shane and Floyd have will have to be upheld first…regardless I love a great fight and will watch both fights, Pac and Clottey, Shane and Floyd…Im just glad boxing is back!!! at least for now…

  • Simon says:

I will not for a single minute miss the man. Life goes on as the next fight: Shane vs. Pac will be truly remembered by this generation as the “Fight of the Decade”. Can’t wait.

  • rat-a-too says:

I would feel sorry for floyd, then floyd would make all kind of accuses and name calling again, then it be right back to sorry floyd you just not my type.

  • Manong Tagacebu says:

They would be eagerly waiting for the rematch as stipulated in the contract.
