Fury stops Blasko, Sykes defeats Morris

By Nate Anderson: Undefeated heavyweight Tyson Fury (10-0, 8 KO’s) continued with his unbeaten streak with a 1st round knockout win over 36-year-old Hans-Joerg Blasko (9-4, 6 KO’s) at the Leisure Centre, Huddersfield, Yorkshire. Fury, 21, knocked Blasko down twice with big combinations. Each time, Blasko would stagger to his feet. After the 2nd knockdown, referee Steve Gray stopped the bout at 2:14 of the 1st. I wish I could say that Fury looked impressive but I can’t.

Fury looked sloppy, fat around the middle and wide open on defense. He was hit by a number of hard jabs and looping right hands from Blasko during he two minutes of action. It wouldn’t be such a big deal if not for the fact that Blasko had been stopped early in three of his eight fights and looked badly over-matched in this fight. It’s unknown why Fury is still being matched against guys like Blasko, because he appears to have already been fighting much better guys than this in the past. But he doesn’t look like he’s improving much, at least on defense.

Fury was hit cleanly each time that Blasko would attempt to throw a jab or right hand. This were looking pretty even in the round until Fury staggered Blasko with a right to the side of the head around the halfway point in the round. The punch may have landed slightly to the back of Blasko’s head. After that, Fury rushed Blasko like an MMA fighter and threw an ugly looking flurry of shots that ended with Blasko going down by the ropes.

Blasko staggered to his feet and incredibly the referee allowed it to continue. Fury then landed a left hand that knocked Blasko and then a chopping right hand to finish matters. Blasko got up immediately, spitting out his mouthpiece almost as if by instinct, and staggering around the ring. This time the referee halted the slaughter.

Fury will be facing John McDermott in a rematch on May 22nd. The two fought previously with Fury winning a controversial 10 round decision last year in September. Many people felt that McDermott should have won that fight. Based on how Fury looked tonight, I’d give McDermott an excellent chance of beating Fury next time.

In other action,

Gary Sykes UD 12 Andy Morris
Tyrone Nurse dec 6 Adam Kelly
Jon Hussey dec 6 Danny Parkinson
Ryan Brawley dec 6 Sebastien Cornu
Carl Frampton TKO 1 Istvan Szabo
Alastair Warren TKO 2 Matt Scriven
Josh Warrington dec 4 Danny McDermid
Daniel Randall dec 4 Carl Allen

I think it’s all Fury mate, the guy’s a deluded knobhead! His promoter ( Mick Hennessy) is also Carl Froch’s promoter and he really isn’t like that. Believe me Fury is going to be brought down to earth with one hell of a bang very soon!

very fair comments, completely agree. perhaps he should keep his trap shut, but then do we really listen to the trash talkers? mayweather wearing a man utd shirt to wind up hatton. haye saying he was going to knock out valuev and collapse the ring.

its part and parcel of the sport. it gives them a psychological edge on occasion and it can often be the difference between 2 men. ali beat most of his opponents long before they stepped into the ring. look at the way he made liston pad his shoulders out with towels under his robe to appear bigger.

@Daniel Ciminera – I agree that at the moment Fury is a long way from the finished article and only time and many more fights will show whether he can progress through the ranks. The problem is that Fury himself is already talking the talk, saying “Ability-wise, I’m five times better than anyone in the world at the moment” before his second bout, and claiming already to be the best in Britain and calling out Chisora. How much is him, and how much is his promoter telling him to put out the trash talking to sell tickets is another matter – but he’s building up the expectations already, when he ought to be only just starting to register on the boxing radar as one to watch – that may not be entirely his fault, but he’s certainly complicit in it. Contrast this with say Cleverly, who has kept his profile somewhat lower and seems to recognise that he needs to work his way up….

the guy had like 30 amateur fights and has had just 10, yes thats T-E-N….ten pro fights

and in case some of you hadnt noticed, he did step up his opposition against john mcdermott. he clearly lost the fight and has dropped the level down accordingly to where he realistically is at.

he is a 21 year old NOVICE fighter. of course he isnt challenging for world titles, or european or even british or commonwealth. he just isnt at the level yet. khan has had 23 fights and is still progressing. and also in the opinion of many, has won a world title too early which may force him to jump up a step too far at this stage. as i said fury has had 10, so why should he be anywhere near the level as kahn who is older and has more pro and amateur fights.

i’ll tell you why, because youre bandwagon boxing fans.

big slow bum, audley harrison would tear this bum to pieces.

  • UK brawler says:

Fury will not step up the opposition will he!!!???!!! i think we can all figure out why.

  • stu says:

why all the hate for a guy who is still only 21?

  • Mike says:

    bob

    Furry has the hand speed?
He’s so slow you can count to 3 before you have to duck! lol

  • bob says:

he hasnt proved himself yet. hes only knocked out journeymen so far so untill he fights someone descent we wont know. looking at him he needs to lose all that puppy fat and get some more good sparring. if he dose this hes got as good a chance as any to win a world title. furys got the hand speed and height to fight like lewis. work off the jab and stay out of range.

  • slumpy says:

Fury talks st.He shows little respect for fellow fighters and thinks hes the new lennox lewis.Big john won there first meeting and he will win the next one.

  • lynch says:

fury doesnt seem to be improving, his size will get him through this level of fighters ..as soon as hes in with a live opponent with a good dig he will lose

  • adam churms says:

this lad does more talkinin than fighting he should be a binman with all the rubbish he talks if there ever was a heavyweight that didnt exite me this is him tyson fury welcome to sucksville population you big john will beat you “again” then chisora will ko you then you can get back to travelling son you suck

  • dan ciminera says:

Fury has a long way to go, give him a chance, this was only his 10th fight. People are still goin on about khan needing more time. Do not forget this guy is younger than khan, he is only 21, and far less experienced as an amateur. The conditioning, control and composure will come. And when it does…well, we all know travellers can fight!

  • john says:

    chisora would ko fury

  • GariJ07 says:

Fury is so over rated any decent Heavyweight would cleanly knock him out, even I could knock him out
