Dirrell is ready to hand Abraham his first loss on March 27th

By Scott Gilfoid: Once beaten Andre Dirrell (18-1, 13 KO’s) has been busy preparing for his March 27th bout against Arthur Abraham (31-0, 25 KO’s) and has been sparring with Victor Oganov, a fighter built a lot like Abraham and who has similar hand speed. Dirrell, 26, will have the home field advantage in the bout against Abraham, as the fight will be taking place at the Joe Louis Arena, in Detroit, Michigan, which isn’t far from Dirrell’s home of Flint, Michigan.

Dirrell is looking for great things in the super middleweight division and Abraham is standing in his path. Some of the boxing experts have been picking Abraham to beat Dirrell. For them, they saw Abraham’s 12th round knockout win over Jermain Taylor in his first fight in the Super Six tournament last October as evidence that Abraham will have too much power for Dirrell.

Instead of seeing the whole picture of Abraham, seeing him as a crude slugger with good but not great power, some of the experts are now picking Abraham to beat Dirrell and eventually win the Super Six tournament. I have to say that I don’t see Abraham getting anywhere close to beating Dirrell on the 27th. In fact, I don’t see Abraham being able to lay so much as a glove on Dirrell.

For that to happen, it would require for Abraham to have some hand speed, something that he’s severely lacking in. You don’t hit Dirrell unless you have hand speed, and that’s just the way it is. Carl Froch was only able to land any punches on Dirrell when he had a hold of him in a clinch.

Hopefully, Abraham won’t be looking to hold and hit, because I think it will be bad for him if he does. In the United States, the referees are very strict about holding and hitting, throwing rabbit punches and body slamming opponents on the canvas. I can’t see Dirrell having any problems whatsoever with any of those issues happening against Abraham, but if they do, I expect the referee to penalize the infraction as soon as it takes place.

Abraham is fighting for one of the few times out of Germany, and this is going to be a very new experience for him. Abraham hasn’t had to really fight in front of a hostile crowd before because the handful of times that he has fought out of Germany, it’s been in locations where the crowd was docile for the most part and not booing him a great deal. I expect the huge Joe Louis will make things very unpleasant for Abraham, and I think it’s going to mess with him mentally.

Abraham says it won’t bother him, but he can’t know how he’ll react because he hasn’t ever had to face an angry crowd before. At the same time, Dirrell will be fighting with even more motivation because the fans will be cheering his every move and giving him a ton of support. Abraham is basically going to be entering the lion’s den and I don’t see him being ready for it.

  • Got Skillvoid says:

    Vintage Gilfoid!

  • wasabi says:

but however, Arthur will just ktfo skinny Dirrell and send nim to hospital!

  • wasabi says:

After reading a lot of Scotts articles i have to say that i am his biggest fan now! Go Scotty!!!

  • Francois says:

Very subjective article indeed… Don’t know why you American people exclusively focus on hands speed. Boxing is not a speed bag competition ! It is not with hand speed that you’ll win a fight in this division, it is with power and accuracy (mostly). That’s why I think AA is perfectly fitting into this division. And he proved it against J.Talyor I think. For me Direll is less dangerous than Taylor for AA. Ok, Direll has a better footwork and enough stamina to run 12 rounds so he’ll be a serious challenger. But I cannot see him hurting in a way or another the fortress AA (probably one of the best defence of the division – of course, he’s trained by Ulli Wegner). That’s how I see the fight : Direll is going to jab in AA’s gloves the first rounds before he eventually gets tired and misses to step aside while Abraham runs on him and unleashes a devastating combo… just like he did to a certain Talyor.

Should it state that Abraham is ready to give Dirrell his first ko loss

  • Erie says:

    Stinky Article..
he is not analizing he is just writing about his favorite boxer here..this is not what people want to read..be fair and you will get better comments.
looks like people hate Scott Gilfoid a lot for his stupidity.

The only chance Dirrell has is to try to run and hold and rely on the judges to give him a hometown decision. I can’t see him beating Abraham. Abraham is deceptively quick with his accurate punches. I’m sure King Arthur knows he shouldn’t let this go the distance and he will apply steady pressure looking for the knockout.

  • bobo says:

Just compare what did Abraham to Miranda and what Ward.
    Abraham is far from slow.

  • Menzies22 says:

Since when has the crowd played such an influential part of a fight, when froch was harping on about having the home crowd advantage and how it would be benificial, you were the first to shoot him down and say that the crowd has nothing to do with it, make your mind up you absolute tool! Scotty your a bellend!

  • Jack Butler says:

It infuriates me that scott ‘knows nothing’ gilfoid os still allowed to post articles. The stuff he writes is criminal, he knows nothing about boxing and is only interested in hyping up scared little fighters from the us. Cannot wait to see dirrell get ko’s just like taylor.

  • Guvnor says:

The two hardest hitters in the super 6 are Froch and Abraham, Dirrell is scared of getting hit (and rightly so) by either of these.
Dirrell will have the same tactics as the Froch fight, lots of holding, lots of running, lots of dodging Abrahams punches… id he actually stood and traded he may be in with a better chance which his hand speed being so much greater than Abrahams!

  • Sam Gemmell says:

SCOTT GILFRAUD YOU ARE A SAD SAD LITTLE MAN, EVERY SINGLE DAY YOU WRITE AN ARTICLE ABOUT HOW DIRRELL IS GOING TO WHOOP ABRAHAM, I HAVE JUST REALISED YOU ARE DIRRELLS WIFE..YOU ARE ALSO DELUDED AND THINK DIRRELL IS A CROSS BETWEEN ALI AND ROBINSON, YOU ARE RETARDED..YOU SPEND HALF YOUR LIFE WRITING ON HERE ABOUT BRITISH FIGHTERS..ALWAYS TIPPING THEM TO LOSE YET THEY ALWAYS WIN…GET A LIFE

  • NAZ says:

The only similarities Victor Oganov and Arthur Abraham have is that they’re both Armenian, that’s bout it.

  • NAZ says:

    Well said Richard.

  • iceman says:

i disagree totally with this writer. very bias.

dont get me wrong, dirrell has every chance of winning a decision, but this abraham dude can throw bombs! at any moment of any round!

just need to look at some of his stoppages. he doesnt just stop guys, he puts them to sleep!

but such a good tournament, great for boxing.

  • Pete says:

Dirrell will be to scared to fight properly against Abraham. I see Dirrell winning some rounds and if he can run all night then he might just get a decision. But the favourite is Abraham and the bookies say he will win by KO.

Have you ever thought of starting up the Andre Dirrell fan club? It will be all he has left after he gets beaten by Abraham then Ward.

All said and done – I think Dirrell can win by points but boy is he going to have to run.

  • Richard says:

Scott, here a few facts which you dont know or dont want to know:
    - on a recent test from the university of Berlin, Abraham cam out ahead of even Wladimir Klitschko in punching power !!!!
    - Abrahams biggest strength however is his mental strength
(a few screaming overweight Americans wont scare him, least even bother him)
    - Dirrels speed dont matter if Abraham stays cool behind his
    concret-strong double defence
    - the fight will be like a Heavyweight fight , where 1 (one)
punch will deceide it all – even if its in the very last
    second…..

  • Jono says:

He will still get knocked out even though he needed 3 more weeks prep. Injury. He’s just delaying the beating Abraham will give him

  • Dodswm says:

As you say Dirrell is going to win Scott, i’m just off to the bookies to put some money on Abraham…Thanks for the tip (I don’t remember you ever predicting a fight correctly, so Abraham has got to be a sure thing)

Also, where’s your amazing article after the Pacquiao – Clottey fight!? Or are you just keeping quiet, because you were wrong as usual?!

  • NiccoloA says:

Abraham has the best power in the super middleweight division. If you don’t accept that, then there’s really no reason to pay attention to what you have to say anyways.

Abraham also has very good hand speed and Victor Oganov is not like Arthur Abraham in the least bit.

Abraham is not a brutal slugger, never has been – and anyways, wouldn’t him being a slugger contradict the guy’s first point about Abraham not having great power?

Abraham is kind of hard to classify, in all honesty. He utilizes defense, strength, power, and counter punching; he doesn’t have the fastest hands alive, but no one is saying he does, he has relatively good speed and will beat many people to the punch.

  • lex t says:

Dirrell will take Abraham to school

    Speed Kills

  • Vandal says:

Victor Oganov is nothing like Abraham. Anybody with a rudimentary knowledge of boxing recognizes that.

Dirrell is not a draw in Michigan or anywhere else. I wish the arena would get sold out but I have serious doubts. Abraham’s fans aren’t on government assistance so I expect them to turn out in force (in the more expensive seats). I’ll be there.

    Arthur knocks that fool out.
