Demers defeats Joppy

By Eric Thomas: Super middleweight contender Sebastien Demers (31-2, 11 KO’s) defeated 39-year-old former World Boxing Association middleweight champion William Joppy (39-6-1, 30 KO’s) by a 10 round majority decision on Saturday night at the Montreal Casino, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The final judges’ scores were 97-93, 97-93, 95-95. The fight was close until the 9th round when Demers pulled away from the 39-year-old, landing the cleaner shots in both the 9th and 10th rounds. After the fight, Joppy announced his retirement.
