Brook stops Bienias, Maccarinelli, Bellew and Smith all win

By Sean McDaniel: Welterweight contender Kell Brook (21-0, 14 KO’s) kept his unbeaten record intact on Friday night, stopping Krzysztof Bienias (39-4, 16 KO’s) in the 6th round to capture the obscure World Boxing Organization Intercontinental welterweight title at the Echo Arena, Liverpool, Merseyside. Bienias, 30, was badly over-matched in this fight and fighting cautiously from the 1st round on.

Brook took the fight to Bienias immediately, picking him off with hard right hands and showing very good accuracy with pin point shots. In the 6th round, Brook hurt Bienias with a hard right uppercut to the head.

Brook kept nailing Bienias with big shots until referee Howard Foster stepped in and stopped the fight. With the win over Bienias, who was ranked #3 by the WBO, Brook will move up higher in the rankings. However, the chances of Brook getting an eventual shot against WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao in the future are extremely remote.

Other boxing results on the card are as follows:

Paul Smith UD 12 Tony Dodson
Tony Bellew TKO 1 Atoli Moore
Stephen Smith KO 1 Jason Thomas
Enzo Maccarinelli TKO 1 Zoltan Czekus
Thomas Costello D 6 Lee Noble
Liam Smith dec 4 Billy Smith
Ronnie Heffron RTD 4 Karl Taylor

kells still young so will improve but already looks very good. he hasnt been chalenged yet though so not sure what his punch resistance or defence is like yet. maybe up the level of apponant like maybe a zab judah or collazo then he should fight for a world title.

ash you full of it 25 % clev is putting in at the minuite with uni and all wait till he takes this sport up full time youll see whos talkin sh1t then and for all the money training and sh1t khans had he should be fighting thye alexanders of this world now and how is it its okay for khan to fight all the british lighter fighters only some hand picked granted but why not your witters and brooks of this country thats right keep hiding him behind your pinny you muppet and find a new name for my names sake ffs

Brook vs Khan…what would be the point of that?
If Khan was knocked by Prescott(addmitedly, at a time when he was green and I’ll-prepared for such a test), then what would a fast, powerful, accurate and patient welterweight, like Brook, do to him?
The answer is, that Brook would destroy Khan!
As for Cleverly being, “the only one who’s doing it”, that’s utter bullsh#t!
Cleverly’s recent fight against Brancalion, only highlighted the fact that he’s got a long way to go, before he’s ready for world-class level boxers.

Ben i agree with you mate, Gari, nice comment. Enzo has lost a few fights and has bounced back. He deserves a lot more credit than the press are giving him, but I guess bad press sells more than good press, or so it seems in this case. I love Enzo and being a Swansea boy myself, I feel he is an inspiration to all up and coming Swansea fighters. I’ll say it again, Guess who’s back, Enzo’s back…..

I think the press are pretty harsh to macrinelli. The guy was relatively well known at one point and now you have to scour the internet for any results for him. I’m surprised, perhaps they would have given him some print if he had lost again so they could mock…

  • Gari says:

hey macrinelli’s knocking them out again, thats good to see

Brook does look impressive, he has good hand speed and power but I do think he needs move his head more to avoid been hit. Still he is very impressive and I think he should get a shot at the Europeon title and move onto better things. I was glad to see that Enzo Maccarinelli had won, he needs few more fights like that then maybe he should challenge for the British title.
